i personally haven't watched, read or heard any news for years. i do this very intentionally because news makes me depressed and anxious. but somehow the most important things still come to me via friends, my mom, colleagues, etc. People just love talking about things that are important or impactfull for them, so i get catered news, which is kinda fun. I also never miss big world news like pandemic, war etc. i hope you find something that works for you. here is some coloured love ;) ❤ 🧡💛💚💙💜

I get my news from the "old school" radio. Love your channel. It is one of the few I watch 😊

So relatable. It’s extra hard when your work keeps you on a screen for hours every day. I love my work, as I connect to people all over the world, individually and in groups, as a mentor for the creative process and teaching art lessons, but screen time is screen time. Today I have four hours of Zoom scheduled.
However, I’ve come a long way in the past two or so years, bringing my non-working screen time down from about six hours a day to less than two. And it’s still far too much. My notebooks have been my most helpful tool. Commonplacing has helped me regain attention span. I can hold entire sentences in my head now as I transcribe them. Anyway, I relate so much to your content. I appreciate it!

this was such a cool video idea ... I've been trying to "fix" my screen addiction for years (ty cal newport for opening my eyes!) and mostly struggle with what to do in replacement of the screens. this gave me a lot of ideas to pull from!

The biggest thing that keeps me off of screens for hourssss is time consuming crafts that I don’t need references for. Like recently I’ve been making mosaic pictures out of tiny squares of paper that I cut up in different colors. What I’m having trouble with is actually feeling like I’m being productive off of screens. I only feel like I’m being useful if I’m applying for jobs or learning skills and they all happen on my iPad pretty much. Journaling, doodling, going on walks, knitting, stuff like that is great but I don’t feel like I’m making any progress in my life that way

for news, a radio update (pick a morning & evening slot from the 1/2 hour or hourly updates), they usually summarise everything in 5 mins; choose the station that gives the coverage you prefer

      I can't believe I hadn't thought of the radio 😱

I also do this! It’s such a summarized way, I feel I know about the most important things that are going on without being enraged by all the details that articles etc. would give me.

Being off socials for 6 months, switching to a text and call only phone, and moving to paper notebooks have all been so good for me….But still have to watch that I don’t use iPad and computer too much.
Stopping doom scrolling has been hard, basically tried to find only two news sites I’ll let myself watch, and also subscribed to a weekly news magazine.
I’ve told my kids that my laptop is when I’m working, and my iPad is personal. Trying to make it intentional. But it’s hard. Trying to refocus on intentionality everyday is all I can do to keep working at it

Pocket notebooks: just buy 120 mg paper which is a bit thicker. Cut these, add a cardboard book cover. Then sew them together yourself. Or staple the pages together. There's great how-to videos on UA-cam. 🎉

Also, the Moleskin Cahier Kraft Paper journals come in packages of 3, and cost 1/2 of what 1 field notebook would cost. ❤

You need to learn to crochet. It will keep your hands busy. Time will fly by and you will stop watching the clock.
