I always like Sabastians tone but he always struggled live to get the same effect. His lifestyle had a lot to do with it. This is during a time when there was not a lot of vocal coaches helping out. They would have been too proud to ask for help or stoned I should say. Also He set the bar really high on these lp's to produce this live night after night especially with drugs and alcohol playing a factor made it damn near impossible. I was a singer during this time and played in many bands and never did the drugs and alcohol and I can still sing all the things I did 30 yrs ago and you can tell the same is with Ken that's why he can do what he does and makes it look effortless. Also way too much Chorus on this live performance. delay and reverb would have been ok by itself but that chorus is over the top. When you perform these types of songs with this much difficulty you must pace yourself through your set Hydrate is so important. water not Jack, vodka, Jim Beem, You can tell that Sebastian trashed his voice by listening to him today. The guy could sing but didn't know how to sing correctly and now his voice has suffered.
Well, he is what, 25 years old, probably never had a vocal teacher, hard life style, rough touring and he still makes it work semi well. Still impressive to me.
He was vocal coached, but he didnt follow the rules..and alot of singer back in the day had their own vocal coaches...Eric from Mr Big, Mark Slaughter etc
Couple of points, if I may. One, in the video Skid Row are classed as an LA band, when in fact they were from New Jersey. Sebastian being Canadian. Minor point. Second, Sebastian has had too much vocal training these days and has lost the edge from his voice. It isn't as heartfelt as it was and the vibrato sounds false, it was the fact that it drew you in that was so great. Since he did the West End stuff it sounds fake. I was at that Wembley gig on 31 August 1991 along with upwards of 80,000 others, and I can promise you not one person there cared one bit that he was a bit pitchy.... I think he was actually 19 or so at the time and opening for Guns n' Roses at their prime and the peak if their career - and they totally stole the night away from Axl. I have seen him both on and off form, with Skid Row and solo,, and he is a showman. Scoff on UA-cam but in the moment when you're watching it live it doesn't matter
He sang his throat out for all of us. That's all that really matters when you think about it. Kind of like Steven Perry. He helped Millions maybe billions of people make love for decades, then he gets throat cancer. These guys sacrificed every ounce of everything they ever had to make us feel it. Sebastian Bach is an incredible frontman and entertainer. And his attitude is still phenomenal I don't care what anybody thinks. He still has spirit, and it's all that matters. Truly a legend of the time.
"He helped Millions maybe billions of people make love for decades" Wow, I dunno what to say, should we blame him for the world overpopulation? LoL :-)
Steve Perry never got throat cancer lol, His Mom had throat cancer. He was photographed there and the rumors started from there. He talks about this on Jonsey's Jukebox Radio interview- its here on youtube. He said his family was calling from south america crying lol. He took care of his mom until she passed, then his life partner passed away from a brain tumor (I think?) & he made her a promise to start singing again & is back at it now... ua-cam.com/video/CnXwFUuoylw/v-deo.html
I agree. I am sad and will forever be that I wasn't atleast a teen in that time ... to experience these greats. It makes me pretty depressed to see this compared to concerts nowadays. No one watching, staring from their phone recording. Steve Perry I absolutely adore as well as Bach, beautiful voices with such desperation and passion. Everytime I watch one of these .. I'm stuck for hours .. then have to watch his amoeba records clip!
Hell, yeah! Personally, I'd put Sebastian Bach in the top 10 vocalists of all time without question. Another guy who belongs in that category is the much lesser known Miljenko Matijevic. Between him and Bach, it doesn't get much better for pure vocal talent.
Wrong....he is the best singer of all time! Dio, Halford and Dickinson are great, but they don't capture the beauty that Sebastian does, with that angelic voice. I saw them on the Slave tour. Amazing! Then again a few years ago. He's not what he used to be, but not too many people can compete. Even to this day. Sebastian does use a lot of echo, but I ask the KJ to turn the echo up for me at karaoke, so I can't blame him there! 😂 lol.
Pretty tough to nail this song in the studio never mind live, especially after playing day after day. The studio version still has some of the best vocals I’ve heard.
He's amazing. What blows my mind is that he can still do the songs in their original keys, which way too many aging rockers can't. And though they're not quite as pretty as they once were, he can still hit those high notes today.
Sebastian can do whatever he wants live IMO; his studio work was phenomenal. I'd put his vocals on In a Darkened Room up there with anything that's ever been recorded.
Yep, the whole "Slave to the Grind" album is mind blowing. In my opinion is the best vocal performance on a Metal album that I have ever heard. It is so insane, he does absolutely everything with his voice on the whole album.
I was at that gig as a fresh faced 15 year old kid, and Seb ran himself ragged across the stage for the full set, so much energy. The fact that he'd run out of gas a little by then really wasn't surprising. Rock n roll isn't all about perfect notes. It would be dull if it was. Also, I don't think Scotti used Mesas, think it was ADA MP-1 and Riveras from a brief conversation I had with him a few years back.
I saw Soundgarden open for Skid Row in 1992. I was there for Soundgarden, but was a great show all around. Cornell and Bach on the same stage at one point!Vocal tsunami that night!
Sebastian Bach said recently on how he improved his singing, “When I get ready to go on tour, I warm up to Steve Perry's incredible singing and it's helped me expand my range over the years, as you can hear on my last couple of studio records."
Did he really say he warmed up to Steve Perry? That's awesome Steve Perry is my favorite rock vocalist ever and Bach is in the top 5 right beside Jimie Jamison of Survivor and the guy from Steelheart.
Don't worship these guys? I have to disagree there.. I'll stop worshipping these guys when musicians today can even come close to bands from those times! SB was exhausted.., and still rocks it. Bands today... Nope. Not even close. They all sound amazing.. On record, live, ALWAYS!
Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge is about the same age as Sebastian, and still sounds amazing live. He's one of the best vocalists in rock right now, he still kills...
Bluesman 78 he was in bands 30 years ago, and was singing/playing. He just wasn’t famous early on like Sebastian was. He has taken care of his voice and himself a lot better than Sebastian has over the years.
Ken, I know you are a professional, but in Sebastian's defense...I heard him sing this song live when he was touring with Bon Jovi. It was perfect and the whole stadium was mesmerized. Needless to say, I remembered it! I still watch this concert all the time on You Tube and am still mesmerized by him even though this song wasn't quite up to par, the Band put on a great show and I can overlook a tired voice. I still can't get over his performance of "Monkey Business"! One for the history books! I wish we had Front men and Bands like the old days! Great times and memories! 😉
I saw him on the Bon Jovi tour as well, 1989! My sister took me for my birthday. I couldn't believe Sebastian was even real - those looks, that range...jeez! I haven't fallen out of love with him since.
Classical music singers have a perfect technic but they are kind of boring... This "Bach" is about technical abilities, charisma, good looks and so on... He rocks in every sense of the word.
Jana Corbell I saw him on the Bon Jovi tour also and his voice was top notch. I went and bought the cd the day of the show. I had never heard of them until that day, Bach is awesome
He isn't one of the best, you judge the best by how good they are live, I seen skid row when they released their debut album, they aren't that good live, Freddie mercury could have taught him how to perform live and sound better live than on the album.
I wouldn’t say he’s the best of all times I’d say is damn good and you know to me he’s great I mean I like Sebastian Bach and I like the band skid row but he’s not the greatest thing ever by far he’s not I’d say he’s in the top 10 of the best 80s rock band or metal bin of all times but I don’t think he’s the greatest I think he can hold his own but he’s not the
Depending on what your flavor of singer was. My favorite from the 80s is Geoff Tate or Queensryche. He has no = imho but when it came to sweet voices that could switch to dirty ta gotta love SB. Mark Slaughter was no slouch either!!
I really like Ken and he's a great singer but I don't believe he gave the video a fair assessment honestly. I know tricks can be done in the studio with all the million dollar equipment BUT you've got to give props to Sebastian for the studio recordings he did on the first 2 albums. All the other bands at the time had access to some studio wizardry also but none of the other singers could even come close to Sebastian as far as raw talent and his range and stamina. I know this video was a live performance but you don't know if he played 20 or so shows that month, played 3 or 4 nights in a row, maybe he had a slightly off day or just maybe he couldn't hear his sound in his monitors very well. You never know live what they might be dealing with. That's why I prefer to judge them mostly on their studio work. It doesn't matter that he had "a little help" from studio equipment because ALL the band's had a little help from studio equipment so to me that makes it an even playing field basically. The studio is where you hear them at their absolute best possible. I've heard Baz live 2 times and he was great. I've heard a lot of other singers live also and they had hit and miss spots in their performance too. You've got to realize that anybody that sings like Baz, with 110% everything they've got is going to have a couple dips in their performance from time to time. If you sing like Bob Dylan then you could throw down a perfect performance everytime. When you sing with all you've got like Baz then it's easier to have those dips when you're maxing out your voice constantly but thats exactly what fans like me enjoy. Baz really raised the bar when he hit the scene. Too bad that "scene" was very short lived after Skid Row came out. I think Skid Row and Warrant were about the last couple of "hair metal" bands that were big time.
We would never have this song in our magic chest of memories if Sebastian wasn't what he is, or had the balls to do it thousands of times for millions. No need to analyze, he's the legend no matter what letter of the alphabet he slips rips and slides between. If rock was perfect, we wouldn't have such a thing. Raw power gets raw. Long live the original.
As a singer myself, I understand fatigue during tours, obviously nothing like these titans used to endure! But, he has always used a short delay, chorus and reverb and that’s super cool as the engineer is replicating the vox spec from the records. Bach’s compression & range is otherworldly... kudos brother ✊
Sebastian Bach was a monster. All I hear here is vocal greatness. Stereo chorus or not the man had raw power and endless range. Very few vocalists could hold a candle to Sebastian Bach live. I saw them three times back in the day and Sebastian never let his audience down. Heavy Metal is not about vocal perfection. If people want that then go to the opera.
I agree and I am struggling with that having grown up with this and still having it in my veins I don’t know how to deal. It feels like true rock has died and I can’t live in a world like that man
He was so damn good-looking back then, it physically hurts just to look at him! (Sorry, just had to get that off my chest). Anyway, at the end he sings the ending of "Love Song" by Tesla, which just happens to be my all-time favorite band! So, while we're on that subject, could you please do a "Vocal Coach Reacts" to Tesla's lead singer, Jeff Keith, preferably this performance: ua-cam.com/video/7m7FpzOxbkQ/v-deo.html
I have never heard the ending with Love Song!! I was so into Tesla too, one of my very favorites (and I think, underrated). Amazing Bas payed them homage cause Bas was wild & Tesla not so much. They where very calm if I don't misunderstand. My favorite Tesla song "Comin' at ya live". But all that album was fantastic!!
Sebastian was my idol back in the 80's. He inspired me to grow my hair long and get into a band. Hearing these songs some 30 years later still reminds me why I do what I do today. Rock on Sebastian!
They were my first concert by design and to this day 30+ years later I have never seen anyone with vocals, adrenaline and pure love for that stage and fans like Sebastian Bach. I was lucky enough to be watching headbangers ball the night a baby faced Skid Row was introduced to the world to debut Youth Gone Wild. That video, that music, that man and that band changed my life forever literally till this day and I am sure til the day I die. So this fan will gladly continue to worship them with the same gusto as 1989.
Honestly I have met very very few people, myself included, that think Vince is one of the worst live singers out there. But the shows were still entertaining because he was a good front man.
"For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction". I truly understand what you mean, your faith and spirit of conviction are strong. Great review Ken.
I caught Skid Row opening for Bon Jovi in St. Louis back in the day. What a show! They outperformed Bon Jovi by a country mile. I could have left after Skid Row's set and been thoroughly happy.
Being a bit flat is totally understandable considering it's live and they are singing these high notes every night on tour. It's a wonder he can sing at all! One night out at a party having to talk loudly, leaves me with a sore throat in the morning.
Pretty tall task to pull off the vocals that were on those amazing 1980's records night after night, and hit ALL of those notes. I ain't mad at Bas, that was a pretty solid performance given the degree of difficulty.
Sebastian was THE best vocal of ANY hair band. Doesn't show in this vid, but from the studio where every singer had the same availability, there's none better than him.
I like Ken's channel, but have to say, Sebastian brought some of the best rock to our ears and minds. The concert he reviewed was actually pretty good (pretty sure it was Wembley ). I disagree with his criticism of Sebastian, but still like his channel overall. But Bach was one of the better vocalists to come out of the 80's rock scene...and that era is full of what we now know as LEGENDS! Ken, you should review his 18 and Life performance for this same concert. He blew the crowds ears off with his performance.
Hard rockin' lifestyle notwithstanding, Sebastian Bach has been one of my favorite rock vocalists since the premier of "Youth Gone Wild" years ago. Phenomenal voice, phenomenal talent.
I never got the impression that Sebastian was mixed up at the end, he was singing a little Tesla "Love Song" which I thought was Brilliant. Huge Tesla fan also. Another unique vocalist IMO. I know parts of this may have been pitchy but Sebastian could sing his ass off. Range and power in his vocals was so raw and real. Enjoy your channel BTW glad you popped up in my recommend. 🤘🎼🎶
Baz didn't mess up at the end. It was a head nod to Tesla's Love Song. The fact that you missed that you missed that makes it a bit hard to take your critique of one of the greatest singers of all time seriously. Sure, he was a bit pitchy here and there. It was live, no auto tune and he was probably dead tired (and he'd probably partied way too hard). Very, very few people could have done what he did under the same circumstances. IMO he was definitely worthy of worship. He had an encredible voice, had great stage presence (and he was hot as Hell!!!! )
Sebastian Bach was and is phenomenal and I've noticed that my vocals are getting much better since using your excersises and I can almost sing this now. God bless you brother!
Hi Ken, i lost my beautiful fiance Suzy she was a concert violist in the 80' in her home state of Washington state, we loved watching your videos together. She was going to request for you to perform our song from Savage Garden "Madly Truly Deeply". It took us 56 years to find each other, grew up on opposite sides of the country, me a New Yorker her in Washington. We had 2 beautiful years but s love larger than life. My soulmate. Great seeing a guy with long hair like myself. Suzy and i are true metal heads.
I’ve watched SO MANY of your videos…I can’t believe I just now (4 years later) finally saw this one! Yes, I love Sebastian Bach. But what I love more was your testimony at the end!!! Good for you for standing up for your convictions!!! God has honored that decision and is blessing you in other ways b/c of it! ❤
Ken, thanks for sharing the quick testimony at the end of the video. I came up during the eighties and nineties, thoroughly enjoying rock music. When I turned 18, I auditioned for a band and was chosen to be lead singer. After about a year, I became born again and truly struggled with the messages and lifestyle promotion in many songs. After one band split, I tried with a few others, but I could never escape the conviction on my heart for singing inglorious lyrics. Now, I am fifty plus and still enjoy singing with the stereo or at an occasional karaoke. Friends and strangers alike, compliment my ability and it is fun to ring true on a high note or special song. I am nowhere your level, but I appreciate your videos which teach this old dog new techniques. Thanks and keep sharing your talents with us. From one brother in the Lord Jesus Christ to another, peace and blessings.
there is a demo version recorded live out there. he can definitely sing his own song. his voice sounds strained/tired in this video- probably from being on tour for too long and partying... like a (literal) rock star night after night.
i remember my dad playing this song for me so i could hear Sebastian's insane screams at the end. it started my Skid Row obsession actually! i love this band
Scotti Hill is one of my favorite guitarists, and i'm fairly sure the band didn't have any serious drug related issues so good on them! i also really admire you for turning down a chance to be a huge rockstar in favor of a cleaner lifestyle
Ken. Love the honesty and analysis here. As someone who gigged with them (minus Sebastian), I can vouch about Scotti Hill's abilities as well. He's a beast and a "band" player, indeed. You're a phenomenal vocalist and coach yourself! Dude, 2 things that caught me... The ending wasn't a mistake. He was singing Tesla's "Love Song" ending over the chords, as a homage to their pals in Tesla. ;) Also, if you rewind back, he did hit that big note at the end (although it got quivery some), but when you screamed the same note, it drowned it out on playback, bro. Listen again? Great review and Reaction video. Keep up the great work!
I have always LOVED Sebastian Bach and always will. There is no other voice like his. When he was on Broadway he amazed my entire family, especially in Jekyll and Hyde. We are talking much older ladies who had never even heard of him, meantime I was dressed in leather and chains. Haha. Anyway, not only is he still a phenomenal singer and still gorgeous, but he is also still so amazing to his true fans. I have met him 6 times and every time he gives me a huge hug and takes pics, signs autographs... I love him. He is a wonderful guy with powerhouse pipes and amazing looks. Sebastian has it all. Always has and always will. Some people are just born to be rock stars and he is definitely one of them. Love you Baz❤️. always have and always will. 😘😘😘
Loving your reactions! You just got a new subscriber. I saw Sebastian Bach in concert 2 years ago. Honestly, he sounded better 2 years ago at the show I went to than he did here. Gregg Allman had passed away the night before I saw Sebastian in concert. During the concert, Sebastian says that he’s got someone he wants to bring out. Next thing you know, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers walks on to the stage during the show, sits at the drum set, and Sebastian says he wants to pay tribute to the late Gregg Allman. They played “Whipping Post” and absolutely rocked it. One of the coolest concert moments I’ve experienced.
I saw Sebastian open for Axl's GN'R in like '06 or something and he absolutely killed on the heavy Skids songs but definitely struggled staying true to some of the ballads. Love the shit outta the guy though. Slave to the Grind still holds up phenomenally.
I got to see Bon Jovi & Skid Row in 89 -- Wow what energy!!!! I was pregnant and sick and was on the floor by the stage rockin out! Sebastian Blew everyone away with his energy and that beautiful voice!!! I've seen many interviews with Sebastian and to I follow his FB He is so funny!!! and his laugh is contagious!! He loves to talk!!!! LOL but his jokes are hilarious and how he tells stories and laughs at everything he says just love the guy
Carry underwood did a killer live version of this. My old band opened for him and LA guns not to many years ago in a small club close to my house. His band was cool, got to talk with them. I got to see Sebastian before and after the show. He did a very good job. We used to play with alot of bands and alot of them needed all kinds of gear. Wanna be national acts ect.. He just used the house monitors, house sound guy and just a regular mic. I respected that.
It’s quite remarkable how he was able to accomplish what he did in the studio. Yes, his live performances were hit and miss, but his studio singing is incredible, very few male singers could pull off what he did during that era with what they had to work with as far as vocal training and coaching. There are some of his live performances that are excellent, although I’m not sure if he ever made the same effort during a live performance that did in the studio. His distortion technique is also impressive as he can sing with a lot of grit, while suffering few ill effects, although age is starting to catch up to him. Nice video Ken.
08:40 Dave "Snake" Sabo ( Skid Row's lead guitar and backing vocals) is also the original guitar player and founder member from Bon Jovi; funny thing is that Richie Sambora replaced Sabo in Bon Jovi...
you just want to be him, living vicariously through those guys. You talk about knowing him and him knowing you and how you know all the big singers, then point out his flaws and then sing a little maybe to show him how its done? Then say toward the end of the video how you would have/could have but you just didn't believe in their song lyrics? No matter how you stack it, these guys were good or even if they weren't they still were successful so to that end their mission was accomplished.
Baz is a PHENOMENAL singer man! You're critiquing this like it's an album version. Talking about how they didn't have auto-tune and shit LOL. So what if he hits the occasional flat note in a live version. The Only singer from that genre that comes to mind that is even in the same league as Sebastian Bach is maybe Geoff Tate from Queensryche.
Tickets for Skid Row just went on sale this morning for their UK tour. Bought two so I can take a friend. So I will be seeing them for the first time(In December).
The ending of the song as it’s recorded in the studio has to be a punch in. The breath control it takes to do what he is doing is super advanced, hence you will never find a version from Bach or anybody doing it live Im willing to bet. Now I’m sure some advanced guys can do the actual notes of the ending in one breath straight out of the chorus but with a lighter thinner tone (thinking Mark Boals Geoff Tate Halford type guys), but generally speaking too many rock/metal guys were doing things in studio in the 80s that can’t be done live. If anybody knows of a proper cover of this of someone pulling it off in one breath I’d love to see it.
Ken you didn't find your place then cuz living the life style they did would never had let you achieve the absolute elite status you have as a singer today.you were learning and honing in your skills.your place could have been then if you wanted but you had bigger things in store...Here you are and you've become a leader in the industry and all the Rockstars of then look to you to keep their voices in shape..this is what you were put here to do and fortunately for all of us you recognized it and embraced it..thanks man
@@dagoelius I thought the same thing, he sang boys are gonna rock with VV invasion. also Tate on Queen of the ryche and King Diamond. so many vocalist in that era
I was sitting with Rob Halford at the Mason Jar in Phoenix decades ago watching a friends band "Gadzooks" and they asked me up to sing two Skid Row songs because they knew Bas was my favorite singer. On the way up to the stage it hit me that I was going to be singing my Heros songs to _his_ hero, Rob Halford! If you think Bradly Cooper was nervous at the Oscars, you have _no_ idea, lol. But Rob was very gracious (as always) and said I did really well for such hard vocals. It didn't help that there were only like 100 people there and that Rob was sitting like 30 feet in front of me as I sang. No pressure. 🙄🤣 Oh BTW, Ken, at the end of this version of I Remember You Bas didn't miss his cue, he started humming "Love Song" by Tesla.😉 And I agree with what you said, he ran out of stamina in this video. Too tired to hit the notes. I have seen them about 4 times and he was not always on top of it live, but one time in Tempe when Pantera opened up for Skid Row Bas must have had some sleep the night before or something because he was en fuego! Rob Halford came out on stage that show (ironically, lol) and they sang "Delivering the Goods" that I believe was recorded that night for a "B" side single. But wow, what a show and they both sang the best I have ever heard them! If anyone here was at that show, you know what I mean. What a thing to witness! ~ Kevin Valentino
Ken, I loved this reaction. ❤️ You're always honest & genuine & as you say you "call a spade, a spade" & that's refreshing. BUT, I gotta address your closing statement. I got mad respect that you decided early on that your moral standards & beliefs were more important to you than fame & the kind of lifestyle you knew you would witness & be subjected to. Not saying you would have succumbed to it, but it's hard to be around that kind of stuff & not be affected. My husband counseled with a church leader & was told the 3 career choices that were most devastating to marriages, families & moral temptation are: Military, Law Enforcement & the entertainment industry. My husband was in the marine corp for over 8 years, was a correctional officer for 21. We have been married almost 41 years. He (we) have been the anomalies in these careers. Our religious beliefs have carried us through, but we have seen (figuratively) many marriages & families crumble & it is heartbreaking. So I commend you on your strength, in a rambling kinda way.
They are certainly not relationships conducive to a healthy marriage and children. You can't take care of your personal responsibilities if you are never home and dealing with fake adulation.
Painstakingly honest reaction! Much respect for sticking to your convictions and finding a way to be a success on your own terms! Thanks for all you do.

Sebastian is one of the best singers that come out in the late 80s.

Best ever

He's amazing. What blows my mind is that he can still do the songs in their original keys, which way too many aging rockers can't. And though they're not quite as pretty as they once were, he can still hit those high notes today.
In my opinion Sebastian Bach is one Of the best voice Of all Time with: Ronnie James Dio and Bruce Dickinson.
Alain Rodrigue 👍
Bruce Dickinson gives me a headache, he's atrocious.
Ian Astbury as well.. imho..
Dude I said the exact same thing on another video you have the same taste as me
100% true
My favorite singer! The man has breath for days, can sing, can scream, and he can still do it!
Sebastian can do whatever he wants live IMO; his studio work was phenomenal. I'd put his vocals on In a Darkened Room up there with anything that's ever been recorded.
Or wasted time towards the end. Absolutely unbelieveable
Quicksand Jesus vocals we're awesome also.
nofam i prefer Wasted Time
Yep, the whole "Slave to the Grind" album is mind blowing. In my opinion is the best vocal performance on a Metal album that I have ever heard. It is so insane, he does absolutely everything with his voice on the whole album.
Agree. the vocal color in that song is fantastic
Correct regarding Scotti's amp setup.
few had the vocals of Sebastian Bach in these days.
@jokrj listen to demos like Love Comes Down, still I cannot believe how he can sing so high throughout all the song
Sebastian Bach is the BEST!!!!!!!!!
Geoff Tate.... that is all.
On record, live, ALWAYS!
my thought exactly!
@@MrNinjastab 30 years later... only a few are able to sing for that long.
Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge is about the same age as Sebastian, and still sounds amazing live. He's one of the best vocalists in rock right now, he still kills...
@@jonnyquest8774 but he is not singing since 30 years
Bluesman 78 he was in bands 30 years ago, and was singing/playing.
I love skidrow.. Him... cory taylor... Layne Staley chris Cornell my all time favorites along with phillip anselmo... Maynard james Keenan
Sebastian is one of the best singers of all time..... that’s just how it is
I'm sorry. But no! Hot as hell. He "could" have been.... but he was just not the best ever. But it is subjective I guess.
He isn't one of the best, you judge the best by how good they are live, I seen skid row when they released their debut album, they aren't that good live, Freddie mercury could have taught him how to perform live and sound better live than on the album.
No arguement from me
I wouldn’t say he’s the best of all times I’d say is damn good and you know to me he’s great I mean I like Sebastian Bach and I like the band skid row but he’s not the greatest thing ever by far he’s not I’d say he’s in the top 10 of the best 80s rock band or metal bin of all times but I don’t think he’s the greatest I think he can hold his own but he’s not the
Depending on what your flavor of singer was.
Right on, Long Live Rock n Roll
As a singer myself, I understand fatigue during tours, obviously nothing like these titans used to endure! But, he has always used a short delay, chorus and reverb and that’s super cool as the engineer is replicating the vox spec from the records. Bach’s compression & range is otherworldly... kudos brother ✊
Thank you!
One of the greatest voices ever i saw Skid Row twice in the early 90's
Sebastian Bach was a monster. All I hear here is vocal greatness. Stereo chorus or not the man had raw power and endless range. Very few vocalists could hold a candle to Sebastian Bach live. I saw them three times back in the day and Sebastian never let his audience down. Heavy Metal is not about vocal perfection. If people want that then go to the opera.
Was in my mid teens when these bands were in their prime. A great time to be alive!
motleydude73 👍
never again will the world rock like this
I agree and I am struggling with that having grown up with this and still having it in my veins I don’t know how to deal.
❤ from 916
I have never heard the ending with Love Song!!
Very cool, EL 444!
I Remember You is a great song from Skid Row and wow did Sebastian Bach have pipes back then .
Chorus effects or not the guy is amazing, even today he sings better than alot of the 80s icons...
Thanks for your comment, Culley!
Fair enough criticizing Seb, but come on, you gave Vince Neil a major pass & he was far worse.
Matt Dowds,
I agree 100%. I think Vince Neil’s performance was far worse than this.
@@jamesdaigle1543 He struggles big time with Dr. Feelgood
Agree Vince really let the side down on that tour. Always out of breath missing half the words and even the backing track didn't help him
Honestly I have met very very few people, myself included, that think Vince is one of the worst live singers out there. But the shows were still entertaining because he was a good front man.
There's a 30 year difference between the ages of the reactions!!!
"For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction". I truly understand what you mean, your faith and spirit of conviction are strong. Great review Ken.
I saw this show live when I was 16 or 17. They blew Guns n Roses away that day.
I saw him opening for GnR in 2007, he blew them off the stage, i was in shock lol
Seen him with Guns and never blew them away Lol , Have a Great Day
80's & 90's Was The Best Years of The Rock Band!.
70s&80s.
Ken at 10:40 when the acoustic starts Sebastian is singing the end to Tesla's "Love song"...Very cool I think
Dats right!
Good catch, I was thinking the same thing
Yes! I noticed that!
Most definitely
Yep
Skid Row was insane. It was pure adrenaline. And drugs.
Sabastian Bach still gives me CHILLS! I LOVE his voice!!
Rock on!
I love Sebastian Bach he is amazing. Majority of music today just doesn’t compare to this.
can U IMAGINE THE TIMES HE SANG THAT SONG....BACK TO BACK...??? YOURE RIGHT DUDE PHENOMINAL...
Yep, most people don't take this into consideration. Singing in the studio and singing live day after day are two completely different things.
Pretty tall task to pull off the vocals that were on those amazing 1980's records night after night, and hit ALL of those notes.
I ain't mad at Bas, that was a pretty solid performance given the degree of difficulty.
Forget Skid Row, Bach and the whole reaction/analysis.
The real star hear is Ken's legendary shirt.
Skid Row without Bach is just Skid Mark...
😄
I miss these days... Good times. People today have no idea..thanks for the throwback. Blessings!
I know what you mean, Sacred Waves!
Doesn't seem he missed a cue at the end. He threw in a nod to Love Song by Tesla, no?
That’s the beauty of the Rock & Metal! Sharing the painful life together! That’s the real humanity!
Sebastian was THE best vocal of ANY hair band. Doesn't show in this vid, but from the studio where every singer had the same availability, there's none better than him.
Thanks for listening. Rock on!
Oh right on Ken I have been waiting for this sebastian is one of reasons why I became a rock singer
Sebastian's best live vocals are when he was on Broadway
8:06: Ken makes an awesome observation about Scotti. Of course the good player part but.. "He plays for the band not for himself "
axl didnt leave because of ego. he didnt like what he was becoming. the music nor his band.. hes been very open and clear about his reasons
Thank you, Romulus.
If you want to hear Sebastian at his best listen to "In A Darkened Room"
🙌
Baz didn't mess up at the end. It was a head nod to Tesla's Love Song. The fact that you missed that you missed that makes it a bit hard to take your critique of one of the greatest singers of all time seriously. Sure, he was a bit pitchy here and there. It was live, no auto tune and he was probably dead tired (and he'd probably partied way too hard). Very, very few people could have done what he did under the same circumstances. IMO he was definitely worthy of worship. He had an encredible voice, had great stage presence (and he was hot as Hell!!!! )
I love American Metalhead this man can sing like few in this world :-)
Sebastian Bach was and is phenomenal and I've noticed that my vocals are getting much better since using your excersises and I can almost sing this now.
Great name lmao
Mona Symeonidoy hahahaah thanks!!
Bach can make it sound like studio, wow,I'm really impressed 👏
Glad you like it!
Baz is one of my favorite singers and he's one of the greats
Sebastian was one of the better voices for sure with Steve Perry and mercury being the best
Agree. I love Perry and Mercury.
He is no where near the vocalist that Steve Perry is, what a joke
Thanks so much for subscribing, Chris! And WOW, what a concert you got to see. Wish I had been there! 😊
Thanks Ken, as a fellow Christian living in this fallen world, I really admire your convictions
DTuned It's not easy, is it?
of all those glam bands the most underrated is Firehouse
Although not really glam, Lynch Mob was my favorite of that era. I though they were pretty underrated too.
Firehouse was excellent though!
Steel heart, Dirty Looks, Warrior Soul, way underlooked
I REALLY appreciate your unbiased and Professional opinions and YES We love you Ken Tamplin, I love the lead solo in this song !!!
Awesome, Ken!
Wow So Sabo is the original Sambora.
You know that is Scotti Hill and not Dave Sabo.
Love this song .... summer of 89’
I still get heat for keeping a collection of 80’s metal .
you just want to be him, living vicariously through those guys.
I saw them in concert & they were amazing.
Ken, I saw Sebastian Live at a small venue in September 2019 he is Still Awesome. Did a Great job .
But they don't have Sebastian Back any more. The band they are now, is just a trashy covers band that comes nowhere near what they were with Baz.
They now have ZP theart (ex vocalist of DragonForce) as their lead singer
And I still love the present Skid Row
Hope you have a nice time there
Sounded great this wasn’t about a flawless performance it’s about a live show .
Even with or without the fx his voice is still beautiful
There will never be another bas!Looks, body and voice!
I'm sure you're right!
Sebastian's live performances vary. When he's drinking the water in this 1 He looks exhausted honestly. Still amazing singer
steve guff Yes, so many things factor into a vocalist's performance. It's a very difficult thing to do, night after night.
Thanks for weighing in, Ricardo!
Damn man....! Sebastian bach is my favorite vocalist man i really love his distorted voice for me his unique
Rainear Mk 👍👍👍
Ken you didn't find your place then cuz living the life style they did would never had let you achieve the absolute elite status you have as a singer today.you were learning and honing in your skills.your place could have been then if you wanted but you had bigger things in store...Here you are and you've become a leader in the industry and all the Rockstars of then look to you to keep their voices in shape..this is what you were put here to do and fortunately for all of us you recognized it and embraced it..thanks man
Thanks, Myke! Appreciate that!
When you hit that "I REMEMBER YOU" I subscribed. Impressive!
He was the best vocalist of this era for this style of music!
😊
I admire you sticking to your principles, so many would have chucked it aside for the chance at $ and fame.
I can't help but sing this song every time I hear it....
How about Steelheart's singer who has the highest range (though falsetto) of all metal bands in history with "I'll Never Let You Go".
No sir. That would be Crimson Glory's singer, "Midnight". Listen to THAT guy.
@@dagoelius I thought the same thing, he sang boys are gonna rock with VV invasion. also Tate on Queen of the ryche and King Diamond. so many vocalist in that era
Love him...but don't forget King Diamonds range.
I love that microphone that looks like a Neumann TLM 103 that had a little too much birthday cake :-) Seriously, a beautiful looking Mic!
Haha! 😀
@@kentamplin Apologies, I corrected my comment to reflect the correctly spelled name of the microphone, to which I was referring :-)
Oh BTW, Ken, at the end of this version of I Remember You Bas didn't miss his cue, he started humming "Love Song" by Tesla.😉
And I agree with what you said, he ran out of stamina in this video.
Sebastião Bach great voice,
Painstakingly honest reaction! Much respect for sticking to your convictions and finding a way to be a success on your own terms! Thanks for all you do.
Oh yeah I used to have this tape back in the 80’s.
Matthew Rosenfield 👍👍👍
Ken, it's good to see you're still "Livin For My Lord".
Loved your work in the 80s n 90s.
Thanks, Shred Hed!
I believe i said this on another video, but i need a Youth Gone Wild cover !!!
Oh, yes! Awesome!
Love that song
