It can be done in less steps,if you have four partision walls,then use dormor tool to cut the roof.

How do you trim the rafters of the original roof to be able to remove them from the dormer space?

I guess you should join the base of the dormer walls to the bigger roof, before creating the dormer.

Just edit the wall boundary in a elevation or section view
