    That roof tucking trick is really great.
    I have had this scenario before and I think I ended up modeling a tiny roof to fix that gap, this is so much better.

    Niall, Thanks for the excellent tutorial once more. This is my second time through this particular tutorial. I appreciate the information so much. I always pick up something. This time its the ability to have a variable thickness in the insulation to accommodate the surface slope. In the past, I've just made my assembly and used modify sub-elements to put in my roof slope.

      @@8020BIM you're welcome for the feedback, Niall. It's the least I can do. The Revit user world is benefitting from your generosity. Blessings on you - I hope you are well also. One item I hadn't realized is how you've broken down the video into learning segments. I wouldn't have seen that except to select "show more" under the UA-cam video description. I also used your tutorial to tuck my smaller gable under a larger gable just today; and I now see a smarter way to accommodate the dormer and openings through the sloped roof. I'd been taking the long way 'round. I've been fumbling with creating generic model voids to alter walls that I'd passed through the roof. You're certainly helping with my efficiency. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say how I've been accomplishing these tasks. I'll do my best to pass along the info and help others as you are. Blessings again!

    Great videos, thank you! Do you have anything that shows how to demo PART of an existing roof and adding new roof for an addition?

    • @8020BIM
      @8020BIM  2 роки тому

      Hi there, thanks for the positive feedback (and Twitter follow, and support!).
      If you add a vertical opening through the existing review in the proposed phase I believe it will demo the part of the roof that it crosses. This should allow you to add the new section of roof local to the demolished area. If this doesn't work please head over to the Discord community and add screenshots of what you would like to accomplish and we can try give you some more detailed guidance.

      Hi Laura.
      Change the level of detail in the plan view to Fine and it should present the pope as its actual diameter. Hope this helps!

    I'm struggling with creating a roof from Kingspan panel (metal insulatied panels) which have a cutback. I tried to get the revit models from their website but that only works using it as a sloped glazed system and using Kingspan roofing as family. Also another thing about the roof creation, what do you do when you have a change in slope on a roof that's fixed to a structural metal framing system? I would apreciate if you would respond to my comment.

    What the difference btwn pick wall and pick line when creating roof??

  • @lenikrof
    @lenikrof 4 роки тому +1

    Hi Niall!
    Is it possible to create this kind of roof only within Revit: imgur.com/a/cIJLfW5 .
    Because of the unsymmetrical diamond shape of the building, I had to model the roof sides at different angles to keep the roof slope consistent. Tried to do it with inplace mass, failed, and then I ended importing it from 3ds max.

    • @8020BIM
      @8020BIM  4 роки тому +1

      Hi again, hope you're well 🙂
      Yes, I believe that roof is possible. I would personally try to create it on the flat and then use mofiy sub element on the roof to raise the points on the boundaries and add the central point in the middle. Only difficulty with that is you will need to know each points elevation to make sure the falls are correct.
      Alternatively I would consider creating the shape as an in place mass surface / volume and then apply the roof by face to the in place mass.
      Any further guidance on this let me know and I see what I can do 😊

    Great Niall! Your tutorials are always useful, I have a request for you, I fell in love with your drawing lines, I would like to ask you if it was possible to know which thicknesses you use (object style and Line Weights). Thanks in advance! @8020 BIM

    • @8020BIM
      @8020BIM  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Alessandro, thank you for your kind words.
      Please note that the line styles are the UK standards as derived from the standard project templates provided with Revit. The thick boundary lines are a medium thickness silhouette line from the graphics display options menu.
      Hope this helps
