It is sad to see Tinsley like it is today. When I compare it to the stabbings and muggings I see here in London in 2024, I now realise how good I had it in S9 back then.
I was born on Greasbro R.d in 1963. We moved due to the M1 construction, in 1965. I attended S.t Lawrence church from 1986 right up until I moved out towards Penistone, in Sheffield. The building opposite the Pike & Heron pub, was a Methodist church until not that long ago. The round-a-bout centre, was a library and the Tinsley One Stop used to be a catholic church. Tinsley Junior school and Park House (comprehensive) have all been demolished in the last few years. Thank you Tim, for this video. Although there as been lots of changes since I left in 1989, it still brings back many memories of my childhood and teenage years.
@@leetickhill7587 i grew up on Greasbro Road, it just declined because of a lack of investment. I also was at Park House School....the council closed it due to a lack of students(which was true), its a shame that today we lack cheap houses and school places especially in the miserable crap hole called London where I have been since 18 years, yet we had all of this in Sheffield, we just didnt care enough as a society to keep it going.
I would happily use public transport if it was fit for purpose. But they destroyed our town centres and created an over reliance on cars to get to out of town shopping centres. Now they are building factories and warehouses in the countryside.
I purchased a suit from Meadowhall in 2019 and the alterations were done by M&C Tailoring. Nice to see they are still in business in what may be described as an isolated area.
If you don't have coherant regeneration strategies in place prior to demolishing neighbourhoods you end up with landscapes that are all too often, easily identifiable.
the second row of shops was featured in the film 'Four Lions'. The gang had their base above 'MC Tailoring'. It was shown several times during the film.
@@timawells It could be worth watching the film as you have already shown some of the locations without knowing in your other videos. There is lots of Sheffield in it (Matilda St/Wicker/Moor/etc).
Mosque used to be to be Tinsley Methodist Church and the One Stop Shop was originally St. John Fisher's Catholic Church. Barbers on the corner was originally a general shop and later a ladies's hairdressers.
In the 70s the Yorkshire pork and bacon factory used to be there where those four shops are They had another factory near the church at Todwick as well and supplied all the Home Farm Product shops that were in Sheffield at that time. I don't know if you remember those shops or if it's before your time Tim but there were several including one on Chapel Walk, another on King Street and one somewhere off the bottom of the Moor. Tinsley used to be a nice area when I was young. My aunt and uncle lived there and their house was a bit posh compared with ours in Wincobank. It's not posh there anymore though😅
There was so much variety in Sheffield Myra back then and we all remember different products. They lady I spoke to at Tinsley wasn't happy about certain things, I said we need a conversation about it. It looks so dirty and run down now. All the best Tim
To be fair it’s been like this since the mid to late 90s. It’s the way the world works now. No room for local shops and factories it’s all big corporations now.

I remember walking through early morning in the 80s and it wasn't a dump then. The shops were all well maintained.

The motorist is the most important part of the economy. The agenda against them is staggering. Won't end well.

It certainly wasn't like this in 1980.

@@dwnxdw Absolutely. Graffiti all over Sheffield city centre. It is now appearing in Chesterfield as they do the same.

I learn something new every day. I know the Fox and Duck was in the film "Among the giants".

@@TheJuzi People like Richard D Hall have opened my eyes to 7/7 so it would be difficult watching such a film.
Shocking aint it. Guess what a lady said to me at the other row of shops. I said we need to have this conversation.@@deedahinkent
That awful row of shops Tim but look at the expensive cars parked outside them ,🤔Mmmm.

Over regulation of small businesses and snoopers from the council.
Worse than Sheffield , if that’s at all possible xxx
Sad isn't it Linda. Once a proud row of maintained shops. X
