- Basement Con is a casual gathering of friends where we try to play those big, multiplayer wargames that are hard to get groups together for yet are some of the best, most rewarding games of all time.

What's with the coat Grant? (jk - watching your March debrief) 😁
Only you two could pull off this concept. You should call it gamers in cars getting KFC.
You get incredible sound out of those microphones in a car.
Glad you agree, took a bit of tampering with the settings, but for amateur work it’s pretty good all things considered!
@@ThePlayersAid do you guys have a link to them? Curious to pick one up.

Their secret is the lap blanket to dampen any echoes!
Pericles, A Mark Herman game being complex? That’s surprising…😁
If I could play a six-player Here I Stand game that would be incredible.
Well you've just confirmed my suspicion that whilst EUpop is the perfect game for me, it's for me and me alone. Something to set up in the spare room and spend a month soloing! It'll tell some great stories but they won't leave that room. I don't regret my purchase but it's a shame it's such a niche even amongst my eclectic board game group.
What you need is to lure your friends in you group into playing it... high trickery, no stops pulled, when they understand the situation it's too late to do anything about it, no one is coming to rescue you in that remote cabin in the woods until next week, and so on, and so on...
Grant giving "Joe Cool Grognard" lessons here. Mirror shades and sleeping bag around legs? SMH...
_Joe Cool Grant! From the waist up, bad-to-the-bone aviator shades badass wargamer-from the waist down, leg-warmer blanket grandpa Joe! Watch as he and his partner, Alexander Shirt, solve mysteries all over the country!_
/70s guitar theme full of wah-wah plays
Wow, I’ve seen cognitive dissonance before, but the way you hatchet jobbed EU was criminal. Grain of salt indeed, you need an entire iceberg.
I would never play a game at a con that no one had played before, and doing that with an opaque game like EU is nuts. No wonder you had a bad experience. It’s not just that game, I can’t tell you how many HIS games Ive played at cons with even a couple of people who haven’t played or prepped, and it turns the game into a one turn demo that lasts eight hours. I refuse to play at a con with anyone who hasn’t played before. Imagine playing that game straight out of the box with no expertise at the table.
Also, like a lot of long games, many that you like, EU has lots of scenarios that are quicker. No one plays the campaign scenario of Pacific War, but it’s considered a masterpiece. A good VASSAL module will make EU’s campaign game playable over time, just like most larger wargames.
When you think about it, EU is HIS with symmetrical rules. HIS has large chunks of rules for each faction, EU doesn’t. In EU, once you understand how to expand, gain prestige, etc, you don’t have to worry about special rules for your side. The asymmetry comes from the faction specific missions driving your play, an exceedingly elegant design choice.
We need to stop looking at games that have wooden cubes and assuming they should be simple.
Ooook... Im never getting Eropa Universalis analog expression like ever. It really sound like a "not me" game. Try Exodus: Proxima Centauri as a spaceX game but we have had a lot of fun with it (its low ish rated on bbg) Its a full sandwitch you can eat in a (relatively short) time.
6-players Here I Stand and 4-players Pericles are must-have experiences for groups of wargamers
The amazing thing about this video? Alexander was driving.
Foster Grant :D
no wait... besides the chicken... I learned that Grant drives slower then my wife... when the jogger ran by the car that was the first sign....
Also driving with a lap blanket? WTF?
@@edackley8595 That’s my coat I took off as it was getting warm in the car.
@@ThePlayersAiduh huh. You know, it’s okay to have a plaid blanket on your lap. We all get there sooner or later.
Gosh darn it, I don't care what anyone else thinks! I'll have supreme comfort for my legs so help me God!! ( oДo)
Bitterly disappointed. I was waiting for the song! :D
Very funny that I was watching this thinking how fun it would be to play big games more often - then I realized I live in the city you traveled to. No excuses I need to find my folks 🤣 😂
Double Down or Spicy Double Down? That is the Question.
Funnily enough, Grant had spicy, and I had regular. It's just a spicy mayo, but it was good!
What was the name of that space game you played, the 3 hour one?
you guys are mental, which is one of the reasons I like you so much!
Just because they didn't ax murder anyone in your presence doesn't mean they aren't ax murderers. It's not generally understood that ax murderers lead rich, full lives :).
when they're not busy ax murdering, that is
The KFC thing...OMFG.
Europa Universalis is my new favorite game. Loved hearing your first impressions. I've played it a few times and 1 Age still takes the whole day. 😅
Would heavily recommend starting with the west s01-01 scenario instead of the east one. There's a 5 player variant with Denmark and it becomes a very close knife fight.
Also a great solo experience!
OMG! Back in the car! Love it!
using Chicken as bread.. who would of thought.... yes... that is what I got out of your video....LOL
I would expect nothing less.
Carrier Battles Philippine Sea looks so good!
double downs are a low carb alternative
Low carb, high everything else :).
@@ThymeKeeper psshhh - details, details......
Have you heard of Star Wars: Rebellion? It a great two player, card driven game that captures the theme of Star Wars. I think you both would enjoy it.
We played it a few times when it first came out! t was enjoyable enough, but it left the collection eventually.
Enjoyed the short drive and the chat.
Police Officer: "How did you find your victims?"
Ax Murderer: "I lured them in with wargames."
Worth it if you actually get to play before the end.
Ask to play EU, that way the police at least have 3 extra days to find and hopefully save you
Police Officer: " That game thing again. 🤨🙄"
Police Officer #2: _"They're going into our schools and hooking the kids on with quick scenarios of Squad Leader!"_ *_*punches the desk in angry frustration*_*
@@fsmoura I did not need any help. I hooked myself in 1979 for, I believe $20-$24. A fair amount of money in 1979 for a 15-year-old. And worth every penny.
Road trip! 🍻
Why the blanket on legs ?
Yes, UTTERLY SHOCKING.
@@edackley8595 you joke ?
It was my coat. I took it off.
@@ThePlayersAid ok. Why on legs ? It's too hot , you wear tee shirt... You should put it on the back seats
Joe Cool Grant had a poor dice roll. Jacket stays on the legs.
Here I Stand is a fantastic game, but saying it's beyond doubt the best multiplayer wargame experience possible makes me think there's an issue with the sample size.
Most assuredly, that's true, but it's the best so far, by quite a margin.
@@ThePlayersAid There's something about those longer grand strategic games.
Of course... HIS is one of the shorter ones of those.
