    Although the collar was shocking, I actually appreciate this change, as it really drives home how invasive the experience was for Alina.

    I kinda prefer the stag "necklace" now because it was always something that... couldn't be removed really. And having it be _literally_ infused makes it more apparent that it can't just be taken off. If it were a necklace it would seem silly. This makes it more permanent. Which is the point.

    Technically in the books Alina is still half shu. They note that she isn’t fully Ravkan and she grew up on the Ravkan and Shuhan boarder. But it’s just never really addressed.

    Jessie and Ben Barnes are incredible I love their chemistry 😍 but in actuality the whole cast is amazing. And thank you for Mentioning how horrible Mal was in the books and how much of an improvement he is in the show.

      What? Mal was even worse in the books? Wow

      @@szepi79 he was unbearable in the books; from what I remember on the spot: he slept around a lot, Alina felt like she's a little sister he needs to take with him places and it was way more of a one-sided thing that it was in the show. His friends bullied her and he was defending them for that. He actually slept with Zoya (and I think it was even after Alina got taken to the small palace). He didn't really do much to get back to her and went to fight on the Fjerdan border. And he hated that Alina was Grisha, he started treating her differently (and in the books it's clearly stated that Alina looked sickly because not using powers makes you sick and using them makes you healthy and live longer), he was annoyed that she became more powerful and liked being a Grisha, that she loved her power and he thought that being a Sun Summoner went to her head. He wished that they went back to normal even though she had a completely physical and mental glow up. He notices Alina only once The Darkling takes interest in her and she becomes her own independant person. And in the 2nd book, there's a new potential love interest for her, very important and unquestionably better than Mal in every aspect possible and he gets so pissy he actually goes along with Zoya's advances again (what she saw in him is still a mistery to me) even though he knew Zoya's hatred for Alina. At that moment Alina and Mal already connected romantically, weren't on the same page on things but still.... In general he was very whiny and very boring at the same time. I think Bardugo realised she made that mistake by book 3 by making him nicer and more accepting, but the damage has already been done. This was supposed to be short, but I really dislike the character to the point I can't exactly force myself to like him much in the show... Even though they did make him a completely different person

      I guess my only issue with the shows mal was how weird it was when he says he “finally sees” her. He was clearly in love with her the whole show rather than gradually growing from best friends to in love. Just my opinion

      @angelazayn4878 3 роки тому +2

      @@danjensen6027 I think the "I see you" moment and speech that mal gave in the show wasn't about how Mal finally saw Alina romantically it was about how he saw her and her powers combined and acknowledges that Alina held that power back to be with him and is sorry that it took him so long to realise it. Full of Lit dives in deeper with this in their Mal episode.

    I'm good with changes like this when one of the people doing it is actually the original author, as was the case here. It makes it feel more like an update of the author's vision rather than a departure. Some authors like to rewrite / retcon their characters on Twitter - which I'm not a fan of. But doing it in a new creative adaptation feels more like a 'second edition revised' version, or like a comic book universe reboot, which I can get behind.

    I loved the series It may even be better than the book. I liked how we are no longer in just Alina's view point and get to explore the world more thoroughly. I can't wait for season 2.

      completely agree. (in all fairness, i have read the original trilogy.) It was fairly true to the series, but adding the Crows made for much better TV. Alina's story alone would have been boring political romance with a dash of magic. The Crows added a very cool dynamic of action: Gun-slinging, suspense, and general badass-ery.

    I didn’t like the Crows in the series, but only in a pacing way, like the pacing of the show isn’t very good.
    They should’ve had more episodes, like the development of Alina was rushed as well as her relationship with the Darkling, and more episodes would’ve helped a lot.
    Still liked the show, but it was way too rushed (and bloated) for me, I can understand if you didn’t mind and disagree with me
    (Also didn’t like the Darkling’s backstory in the show, but that’s me)
    Also also, hate the stag horn necklace in the show, ew... just ew

    • @mannatgupta6161
      @mannatgupta6161 2 роки тому

      Lmao i think it's cause darkling and Alina's relationship was supposed to be rushed , it was the same in the book because he was Always supposed to just use her for power.
      In the book alina didn't have much arc till the second book so it feels nice
      And the necklace was supposed to be that, it was supposed to be ugly, everyone is supposed to hate it .

    Seems like they can just shoot the creatures in the fold right, why don’t they equip the ships with enough mounted machine guns which would be placed on a metallic “shelter/cover” to give the shooter some protection.

    Can we please start saying 'goodbye' to the Entertainment Weekly method of line delivery? The hosts on this channel are great, and they often cover some really interesting topics, but jeez does their delivery grate on the ol ear canals. Honestly, keep the cheesy jokes and painful puns, they're endearing ... but drop the dated delivery for something more conversational and natural, akin to Whatculture, perhaps?

    Great show and fun contrast/comparison. However, you were wrong about the world in the show. In our world, "Race" was invented whole cloth in the mid-1600s. In their world, "Race" doesn't exist. Pre-Race people thought in Tribal terms, and on most of their or our planet, those Tribes became nations. What you actually see is a non-modern way of looking at people, which was devoid of the ugly idea of Race. I hope that helps.

    Most of us, if not all fans, want Alina and the Darkling together. If Netflix can make that happen it would bring us so much joy in the world. Can redemption be the reason for their match making? AND...if Netflix can go beyond a kissing scene between the two super powers...WHOA NELLY!! We’d all be in Grisha heaven. The books just tease you and never move forward. So why not go for it?! Though it doesn’t have to be a sad ending for Mal since Zoya seem to have a strong interest in him. They do make a good couple.
