damn the baby just flexin on me with the patagonia gear.
Patagucci😂😂
It was done in R1
I had a girl in Hanover joke on my Patagonia gear, calling it "Fratagonia" because all the rich guys in the fraternities at Dartmouth wore it. I don't blame them though, I still have that rain jacket 9 years later. Was money well spent, I'd say.
IamFrancoisDillinger Here in Ventura, CA., it is regular wear. Patagonia started in one of our old warehouses in the 70s. It was called ThE Great Pacific Iron Works. Bought my first backpacking sleeping bag at their “Garage sale.” $35.00 for -20 degree Camp 7 down sleeping bag.
Enough of the stuff can be found used around town. Not a big deal here in Ventura.
Yeah this made me LOL
Who else wants to hike the AT after watching this?
maria_444 same
Not me!
ABSOLUTELY not!
I want to really badly but it would be so expensive

I met you guys during my thru hike as well, congrats on finishing
Everyone saying that this is child abuse should have their head checked. Child abuse is allowing your child to sit in front of a computer/iPad/video game console all day long and fear the outside. These children would’ve learned more in six months then they would six years in school. Teaching your children to succeed, work hard and have fun is never wrong
❤👍❤👍
Amen.
naladg this is true naladg ❤️
I know hundreds of people who spend the majority of their time on their computers or whatever and none of the, fear the wilderness...

same! never really went hiking as a child. grown to love it as an adult, but I never go :/
I have no idea why this was in my recommended and was not expecting to watch this all the way through, but over an hour later here I am, this was amazing. I am so impressed and inspired.
Wait so u watched till the end?????????
Thats wierd because the video was 1 hour
@@ryusworld2701 What? Why is that weird?
I know why it came up, but it was so inspiring anyways.
I am a retired Federal Officer, and that is NOT child abuse. It's a shame the youngest one will not remember it.

I can't believe people were threatening to call CPS
The kids said they wanted to do the hike and marathon
That’s definitely not child abuse! As a kid I would adore to be able to take 6 months of my life and hike with family. This is a dream!
I agree! These kids are going to have this card in their back pocket to pull out in hard times! They will remember how they had to push on, endure, keep going. Hopefully they cherish the memory and time spent as a family!
@Lithus17 how is it stupid?
I agree it's an achievement and who knows what this has opened their minds to for their futures.
Heatherlily Shiver me too I’m a bsa scout and this looks so fun
Yeah I agree
Rainer is the real MVP. He was hanging out, sleeping and having everyone else carry the gear. Well played, sir.... Well played... lol. This is simply inspiring. What an accomplishment!
I guess he could say he “I walked the Appalachian trail when I was two”
* “I was carried the Appalachian trail when I was two”
"entire websites were dedicated to hating on us" Get a grip. I thought my parents were tough taking five kids on holiday to Colorado. These two adults are the epitome of dedicated and have to be the best parents I have ever known. CPS should make a video of them for demonstration what 100% commitment looks like. Even as I watch I almost cannot believe it. Had I known this was happening I would have gone ot the trail and cooked/cleaned/whatever I could do to help. Amazing examples of humanity, all eight.
John Cooper you took the words right out of my mouth!
Exactly what I'm saying. They have twice as many children as my wife and I and we can't manage a civilized trip to Walmart! I'm impressed and inspired!
John Cooper, very well said. ❤️
I completely agree with you, and these kids will be well equipped for amazing lives after this incredible journey. 😊
Yes. Listening to the book right now planning on helping others in 2022.
I was taken up glens and mountains across Scotland as a kid, nothing like you've done. My childhood was wonderful, my best memories are the ones when weather was awful and we got to where we were going and we had soup or saw a waterfall or the car brokedown and we had to sit in it, in a storm for hours waiting for assistance. I hated it at the time but looking back it was the best of times. Keep going with the memory making.💖
This needs to be on Netflix. Absolutely beautiful. Love your family!!
Chris Jenkins i totally agree! I was hooked from the moment i started watching!
Agreed
I'd watch!
When those kids get older, they'll appreciate this even more. My Dad would take us on long hikes when i was young and I used to hate it... but looking back I'm so glad he introduced my to hiking young because its definitely a part of me now!
So going to report this family to CPS!
For being an excellent example of Love & Unity as a family. CPS can use them as a model to compare... : )

Honestly I was more worried about the baby drinking mountain dew than the hiking...
I thought the exact same thing
They blog on their home life too. They are not big on junk food...and I doubt he was ever allowed the entire bottle/can, it was probably a sip of one of his parent's drinks, their obsession with coffee makes my head scream "caffeine dependent!" (many parents are) and MtD is a decent source of it if no coffee is available
Roddy ok same 😭😂
Same
@@haleynovak5224 every hiker, or well the ones that like coffee, do drink coffee the first thing in the morning and sometimes even later in the day, cafeine dependent or not, it sometimes gives you that little bit of extra boost to start up.
And then at some point the kid who is 2 years old drinks mountain dew.... so what if you had to choose to let your kid drink MtD or nothing.... right!! let the kid drink MtD.. and then again maybe he wasnt drinking it but got to hold on to it while they were hiking for entertainment
Best part about this video is watching as youngest member of “The Family” is acquiring language. 45 days in his young life is a time of major language development. Too bad he won’t remember the trip, but the rest of those children will have a spectacular adventure to remember for the rest of their lives.
To the parents- this is not child abuse. It is making memories for your children to tell their grandchildren. You are amazing parents!
This creates more tougher human's. More people need to take kids on outdoor adventures.
I want to take my niece on a bike packing adventure when she's around 10 or 11.
You’d be surprised what a 2 year old remembers. The things that catch his attention will stay with him forever.
@Me Me - "To the parents- this is not child abuse. It is making memories for your children to tell their grandchildren. You are amazing parents!" - This is so true. 👍
He might remember it as it was such a big thing
You'd be surprised. I fondly remember visiting my aunt's farm in Nova Scotia when I was less than 2 years old. Watching fish in the stream, her chickens and the big dog as tall as I was at that age.
Im just thinking to myself "this must be so expensive"
For a family, it would be, but I know people that have done the entire trail for 2k. Not cheap, but not bad for 6 months of hiking.
Not bad for 2 months of hiking? Not bad for 2 months of living in general
How much it cost: ua-cam.com/video/9kwJSFMA3_4/v-deo.html
@Jordan Schlansky I spent around 6k, but I also had no experience. The first night on the trail was my first night backpacking. I spent a bit buying all new gear along the trail since I had cheap stuff, and I spent a lot of time eating in towns and blowing money on nonsense. To do it without blowing your budget you'd just need to avoid staying in fancy hotels regularly and try to have your gear worked out before starting. I'm sure I could do it now for around 4k and still live like a king.
I just did in 2017 took me 7 month to finished average is 1000 $ per month but with 5k you can do it when you come back you're going to be another person
That. Was. Amazing.
My absolute favorite part that made me start crying was when Ben said his favorite part of the entire trip was getting to hear his daughter's heart. That blew my mind thinking about the beautiful scenery they saw, amazing people they met, and even finishing it... yet his favorite part was getting insight into things his daughter cares about.
#fatheroftheyear
And I also love how you had family meetings and decided things as a group and welcomed input. My family never did that. You gave your kids voices.
That was so well edited. I cried. I laughed. There was so much heart in it. And now I want to watch it again. And thank you for showing us the other people finishing too. That was like icing on the cake.
You know.... the PCT is not as hard as the AT... I can hear it calling...
Please make it a 2 hour video if you do that hike. ❤
theshellest I want to do that hike! Hopefully in 2022! -Kami

*To everyone saying this is child abuse*
As an Appalachian native, this trail is somewhat legendary. Every wild-man here sets out to walk it at some point in their lives. At this point, it's basically a ritual. Some people come back from the trail....others do not. I've had friends who have come back in critical condition...and I've had friends who haven't come back at all.
That being said, this family took all of the necessary precautions. They went for comfort and safety, not survival (which, with the responsibility of six kids, was definitely the right choice.) They are obviously an active and outdoors-oriented family. If some random man from the suburbs who had never hiked a day in his life decided "yeah imma take my child on this incredibly strenuous and dangerous journey"...that would be a different situation. But, these parents did the proper prep. They put the hours in. At the end of the day, these kids are fine. What's done is done. Who tf cares.

Big Hug from Germany
@@garretthikes2034 that's true, but they made many decisions along the way to ensure none of them would get hypothermia. If you watch all of the vlogs, or even read the book they just released, you get a much bigger picture of the different choices they made along the way with regards to their kids safety.
It could have been dangerous, but so can a car ride. They all came out stronger in the end.
obviously they are to blind to see how much fun the kids had. ofcourse some days are tough but so is the real world! seemed like a vacation and adventure of a lifetime for them.. mad props
I get why people are concerned. You mentioned that the family took all the necessary precautions, however, that’s nearly impossible when you are talking about nature. Compile that with human error such as losing the youngest child’s rain pants on day one and the potential for real harm is there. You mentioned yourself that the AT is a very strenuous and dangerous journey (for someone who doesn’t have hiking experience) but in reality it is both of those things for anyone, even seasoned hikers. Add 6 kids to the mix which regardless of your hiking abilities is an added risk times 6. In all reality they very likely could not have done it without all the help they received in the last half. As parents we have to weigh out the benefits of an experience with the potential dangers. They took a calculated risk and very fortunately it worked out. Many parents watching this were obviously aware and concerned. Some overly concerned. To go as far as making hate groups or entire web pages is beyond excessive.
I wish my parents abused me like this.

Really people called CPS on you for giving your kids the time of their lives? It's not like you had your kids out forging for food instead of bringing food, and planning to do the whole trail with no shelter besides a tent. This is not abuse at all this is parenting done right.
No they just exposed all their children including a 2 yr old baby to freezing temps freezing rain allowing them to all get soaked for hours at a time. Seriously they should have been arrested and those kids rescued
Sarah Marchuk That’s not abuse. You know children survived these conditions on a daily bases back in the old days. Now if you allow your children to walk home by themselves it’s a crime. It’s ridiculous.
Sarah Marchuk They also learned to work hard, work together, and spend quality time together, instead of just sitting at home. Life is short, freaking go out there and live it. Stop being so scared of what could happen.
You're an idiot Sarah. But the names of thoses kids though... I'd call CPS on that. :P

This is the kind of experiences that you can't buy even if you have tons of money. People may talk, positively/negatively about your decisions as a parents. But believe me, you guys have made a womderful memories throughout those 6 months with your kids. And for your kids, they will be living their lives till they were old with a memories that they can tell to their kids and grandkids. Its a lifetime experiences and to you crawford's (dove, rainier, seven, eden, filia, memory, kami and ben) you've made it! Congratulations for the crawford's lifetime achivements!
Prediction: In 30 years people will notice that Rainer never gets sick and has an incredible immune system that fights off every illness. A few years after that, people will finally start putting 2 and 2 together and realize it's because he spent 6 months in the woods as an infant boosting his immune system, thus starting a new trend of parents taking babies on through hikes so much so that every 4th person you see on the trail will have a baby on their back. 20 years after that happens, the country has the healthiest generation it's ever seen.
Yes!!
Absolutely!!!!!
The boosts to the immune system come from catching bug when you are around groups of people, like in school. When you catch the bug, the immune system builds antibodies. Not sure how being in the woods with the same six people all the time does that.
I don’t get why people would hate I would love for my parents to be so loving and motivating as you guys❤️❤️

Child protection agency??? Why??? What you did was normal 100 years ago. Living outside the whole day and moving around, without central heating. It does not matter if this moving around is on a cattle farm or you going straight like the golddiggers did. You are a beautiful family, children are all well cared for and fed. Is it cruel to not being able to see the Simpson or being on facebook? I don't think so. You were teaching your children values which they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Things like family values, team effort, nature, how to appreciate simple things in life like a comfy bed, hot shower and clean room, overcoming obstacles, added fitness and so on.

@@sxysteve87 these children were not at risk and you DID NOT need to worry about them. Hundreds of thousands are sitting in foster care. Care about them.
It's funny, as a kid I was put in a program called Forestry Camp by the state of MA. It was the dead of winter and we slept in tents just about every night and hiked just about every day. Nobody called that child abuse.

This is what family is all about supporting and encouraging eachother with their dreams. Love it- what a great documentary! I liked when the kids took turns carrying Rainier. To the haters who called cps shame on them. Call on someone who's actually in need of help dont burden an already overburden system with false reports or unfounded accusations. I wish my parents did this with me when I was a kid! We went camping in the summers usually 3 or 4 times a year and I loved it! Can't wait to take my kids camping this year! Happy trails god bless!
What an amazing gift you gave to your children and yourselves! They will always remember the trail magic, the kindness of strangers, and the ecstasy of a cheese burger. My dad took us backpacking at a young age and it's some of the best memories I have. It taught me that hard physical work is worth it, an appreciation for nature, and, as a girl, that my body is a tool to accomplish things, not just something to look at. I can't imagine the immense planning it took for 6 kids! Just amazing.
I am so happy to see you succeed and prove all those haters wrong. I mean... What the heck? I may not always agree with some of your views, but it's your life, these are your kids and you know best what's good for them and what they can handle. Everyone watching these videos for just a minute can tell that they are all very bright, well spoken and adjusted. It's a testimony to your parenting, Ben and Kami. Would a child or a teenager rather hang out at the pool of a motel than hiking through the ice cold smokey mountains? Of course. But in retrospect they all seem to be very proud of what you've accomplished together. So: Bravo!
PS: I'll be following in your footsteps starting March, 2!
Thanks for the encouragement.

When I first started watching this video, I didn't expect to finish it. Then, when I was about 20 minutes in, I asked myself "why would I not?" You and your children have accomplished something that is truly amazing. I can only imagine what it felt like to complete the trail.
What amazing parents to offer this opportunity of a lifetime to their kids. "Will it be hard, Dad?" "Hell, yeah. But you'll be a better person for it and the journey will shape your life for decades to come." What I love is that (at least from the footage) was that the kids never complained!! (I'm sure they did), but they always had a positive attitude. The people helping along the way with loding, kind words, food, camaraderie makes me believe in America again.

For the first 30 minutes of me watching this, I thought of all the negative things I could say. How irresponsible. It's just too much. LOTS of things could have gone wrong. Kids are too young to run a marathon. etc. The more the movie went on, the more I started thinking "this is actually pretty cool". Well done guys.
There were way too many moments I got emotional watching this. Fighting tears. Ugh you guys are so super awesome. Looked damn hard but grateful for the message this is sending. Just beautiful man. Keep inspiring. Keep believing. Keep loving. ❤❤ #community
P.S. How freakin amazing is Fresh Ground?!??! What a stud!!
This video needs to go viral. This is extraordinary.
I agree! These kids are going to have this card in their back pocket to pull out in hard times! They will remember how they had to push on, endure, keep going. Hopefully they cherish the memory and time spent as a family!
Awesome job Seven, this was such a joy to watch and can tell you put all of your heart and soul into this project. It would be great if you could produce a short documentary on Fresh Ground someday, he wouldn't want the attention but his story is so inspirational and deserves to be told.
I watched this video like a year ago and thought it would be so cool to do. Didn’t do anything to better my health until a few months ago and I have lost 70 pounds and just did my first hike (12 miles in the foothills of Indiana, baby steps I know) and have more motivation than ever to keep going. Thanks for the content and hope all is well on your alls end of things
Congrats on your hard work and dedication vlKenzo! 12 miles on a trail is more than most people will ever do at once! Remember The Family may have inspired us, but YOU put the work in to get where you are. Good job. Good luck on your adventures!
So I found you guys in my recommendation and I'm honestly so happy to have watched the entire thing. It was amazing to watch and to see your eldest daughter Dove do this, we're the same age and so seeing another girl my age do something like this is truly amazing and is just so cool. I from New Zealand and so seeing this really makes me want to take up the challenge and to that when I finish high school. Thank you so much for posting this video as it was way better than doing my homework
The AT is not even the longest hiking trail in the US, much less the world. Both the PCT and the CDT are longer by a significant amount. But still...to thru-hike it with your whole family?! TOTALLY EPIC!!!
He probably meant oldest
the CDT is 650 miles long.
@Carole Warner PCT is about 2650
This is taken from wikipedia: "The Appalachian Trail Conservancy describes the Appalachian Trail as the longest hiking-only trail in the world"
@@FightforTogether You do know, that Wikipedia is not a reliable source, don't you? However, technically, the PCT also allows horseback riding. don't know about the cdt, but the cdt is by far the least established. So the AT might be the longest hiking-only trail, but not the longest hiking trail
Why would anyone hate on such an amazing dream. Well done for not letting the hate get to you and inspiring me to want to do that one day.
This was amazing and I'm from Cincinnati,Ohio my uncle and cousin runs that run too.. congratulations
So cool! Glad you enjoyed the video. We're writing a book about our AT experience and almost done. If you want to get an email when it's released you can sign up here: bit.ly/2000Together

favorite part in this is: when you talk about dove talking about her dream life. for a kid to be able to dream "big" and in such detail and then being able to share that means so much.i think it is one of the biggest gifts of a human: to be able to dream. because if you dream it means that you can see possibilities. whether they come true or not or in what way is secondary
That was a last minute addition I thought about 3 days ago and then I recorded it and Seven put it in. I almost deleted it yesterday but then Kami talked me into keeping it. Glad you liked it. - ben
@@FightforTogether yes! and that right after the 'montage' of sorts. *tears*
Yeah not gonna lie, I teared up.
Lmao people saying this is child abuse clearly have never been in situations where the child is actually being abused or neglected u guys need to educate ur selfs
sara walters abuse isn’t always physical or verbal abuse or being neglected. It’s also mental abuse it looks like the kids in this video are enjoying it and stuff so I doesn’t really matter BUT the smallest kid on the other hand multiple times looks kind of distressed and very cold, kids that young don’t have an immune system like the older ones and since he’s so young we as viewers don’t actually know what he’s feeling or saying. But whatever lmao
Megan {: he didn’t look distressed he looked fussy as usual 2 yr olds are
sara walters
Whatever you say my dude I’m just stating an opinion I’ve never seen a 2 year old make some of the faces he made unless they were upset or distressed.
Megan {: 2 yr olds get upset it’s not abuse if ur 2 yr old child gets upset
sara walters
Okay I’m not arguing about what is abuse and what isn’t. It’s my opinion that it’s possible the 2 year old is distressed and yes I know 2 year olds get upset I’m not stupid
Take some time to appreciate the editing 😍
Ok so I almost had tears when you guys had eggs benedict for your daughter on her birthday. You are awesome!
Your family is honestly so inspiring to me I'm a 16 year old who has done the London marathon 6 times I don't my first marathon when I was 10 years old I was concidering stopping them because I get hurt to much after but then I saw that your 8 year old has done a marathon and she refused to give up that got me thinking I'm not gonna give up because to me your children and even you and your wife give me so much inspiration keep up the good work I love watching your family video there honestly amazing and inspirational 💖
“We never saw Silver again”
NOOOOOOO 😂😂
People actually wanted to report you to CPS? Those people should be reported for not allowing their children to experience life and adventure! And this video just oozes patience (although I'm certain you had your moments!). Thanks for your efforts to put this all together.
They didn't just want to, some people actually DID report them. They left that part out of this particular vid, but the morning after they spent the night in that bathroom at Newfound Gap (BTW, there was another group of hikers spending the men's bathroom next door), they were met in the parking lot by CPS and had to answer a bunch of questions. The kids got interviewed as well. Of course they weren't doing anything wrong, just something extraordinary, so they were allowed to go on their merry way. But they were obviously shaken by the experience, frustrated and hurt that someone would report them, and briefly considered ending the vlogs. CPS had to respond and investigate since it was reported, so no fault of CPS, BTW. Incredible achievement, and I think a lot of the haters were eventually converted to believers. I wasn't a hater per se, but was a certified doubter for sure in the beginning. Very proud they made it, and showed me and many others that there is more than one way to raise a family.
Thanks for taking the time to write out that clarification. I also appreciate your respect for CPS. Yes, it sucked, but they did their job, the Crawford did theirs (nothing to hide, obviously), and thanks to the family for continuing to document their adventures in spite of the hostility of some. Best regards from the Colorado Front Range (which isn't far from the CDT... not that I'd ever want to put an idea in your heads...).
@@tomjusttom5587 Sorry if that was overkill (It's a blessing and a curse 😁). I wasn't sure if you had seen the entire AT vlog or just this compilation vid, so was just giving you more of the story in case you were interested.
I love the vlog and half-listen to it while doing other things when I can but had missed that detail. I do appreciate the additional info! And I can always read faster than I can watch video, LOL...
This is like, the sixth time I've watched this? I watch this when I need a big push of hope and motivation to move my body in a way that enriches my life and health. These kids are lucky to have you, and you're lucky to have them. You're incredible.
have you watched their video on the marathon ? if not your in for a treat ...
Also my go to video for inspiration. ❤️
Who cares what people’s opinion is. You guys did awesome and stuck together. That’s an amazing family achievement that you all can share. CPS? Give these parents an award for going above and beyond. I commend you for your commitment to each other. You are an example of good parenting.
Amen to that!
the people offering to band together in the shelter was so lovely, made me tear up
To hear that one of them is now hiking somewhere in New Zealand made me so happy because nz is my home country also that end part made me tear up
I like how "The Family" doesn't mind sharing
I normally don't say things on social media.... I was mad at first thinking the kids didn't deserve this.....at the end I thought wow...….what an amazing family.... Feel as if I know you and you're all great souls.. Great job
as someone who lives in tennessee, knowing how unbearably cold and rainy it can get, my hat is off to you. the weather can get awful here especially in the mountains. they are beautiful just really rainy. good job guys!! 👍🏻👍🏻
WOW! I was going to take a quick peek - maybe watch a few minutes. I watched the whole damn thing. Great job putting this doc together.
So this was in my recommended a year after it was uploaded and this is the coolest thing I've ever seen, I hope my family is as cool as this one day :D

This is a strongest family for me! Good job 👍 you have my respect ✊🏼 thanks for sharing🤟
I can't believe people would call CPS on you for talking your family on the most amazing journey of there lives. That's the best kind of schooling any kid would love to do they get to learn so much about survival sure can't learn that in a class room those kids were fine.
I think it was good that they gave comment to it. Like most of trolls comments that don't add anything positive they are over looked quickly
When they are out-parenting 95%+ of the population.
TexasCountryLiving out parenting 100% of the population .Those kids have had more experience and accomplished more than a lot adults
Watching this had me tearing up. What you guys have done as a family is incredible and has created memories that you will all never forget. What an opportunity for your kids. You guys are great parents!
I’m coming back to watch this again since I have so much time during self-isolation... This is probably my favorite long-form AT documentary out there. You guys are totally inspiring.
