    I had my power steering pump leaking into the alternator and smoke started coming out the hood, do you think the alternator is bad?

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t think so fix the leak and about the alternator it dosent usually go bad that quick eventully it will go bad but u can do voltage test use volt meter put it on battery it should give you 13 bolts or above and that’s a good number

    I am doing this exact procedure to restore my old steering pump. I am replacing all the seals.i checked honda and they don't have vanes. Also you don't need a pully puller on this model of pump. the shaft is pressed in to pully and there is a lock spring behind vanes assembly that need to be removed to remove shaft. I hope vanes are fine on mine.

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  2 роки тому +1

      U can replace the vanes also

      Do you have a link where I can buy the vanes, I did check the vanes they are not scored but when I replaced the PS pump my cars steering wheel now is very light and moves like a breeze. I did full flush and also installed a filter to ensure the new pump last longer but I do suspect I may overlook vanes before doing the job. I think I need to atleast measure it with a standard one.

    Hey man, thanks for the video! How'd you know the main seal is what was causing the leak? Did you visually see a defect in the gasket (ie: a crack, hardening, etc)?

      How do I determine when I should try and replace the whole PS pump, vs just replacing the gaskets? sorry if these are silly questions; I'm super new to car repair and wanna start fixing up my 2011 accord myself

    hello thanks for the video, why should the oil seal on the steering pump in honda accord 1991 drop, and disassemble the pump, check the lines and it seems that there are no leaks in them, reassemble the pump but do not change the inner o-rings, just replace the outer seal of the pump, since the o-rings do not seem to be bad, since disassemble and assemble the pump several times, and the oil does not continue to drain for the outer seal that goes on the pinion to the pulley, will be the pump or simply change the seal kit, which you recommend me to do or the problem is elsewhere as the rack, thanks for the contribution in the video.

      Pedro Fragoso well if there’s no leaks and pump is working making pressure u don’t need to do anything. But if ur opening up then change the seal and fins was to do and cheap. Please subscribe also subscribe to my other channel here’s a link ua-cam.com/channels/vqsPzqAZfVv_gjBYUFqNdg.html

    Sir, thanks. The power steering pump is leaking on my 06 Accord. Debating whether to replace it or just the seals.

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  3 роки тому +1

      If this seal is leaking then you can replace the seals but the rest is complicated then I would replace it

      Depends if there’s no other issues the most common is the o ring on the suction line

    Is an aftermarket power steering pump ok to use? Cause the honda oem one cost 400+. While the aftermarket is around 160-$200 much cheaper. People told me those aftermarket pump are no good after a while. Any advice?

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  3 роки тому +2

      I put pump in my
      Car aftermarket 2004 accord it’s been 5 years still good ... it was $178 I don’t see a problem make sure u change the o-rings on both lines ... I would say go for it. The brand I used was dorman

      @@RBTheMechanic thank you.
      i am asking cause $400+ is too much for me at the moment. If its 100% necessary than i have to choose oem. I just heard bad reviews about aftermarket. If after market works fine and at least last at least 5 years then i rather go aftermarket to save money. I was just wondering what is your advice.

    Great video man! So is possible the pump itself can leak? My 09 civic has 150k miles and has a slow power steering leak. The hoses look good, but the pump is covered in fluid. Thanks
