  • Worlds of Wonder had a few good hits. They were a toy company ahead of their time. With awesome toys like Laser Tag, and this one, the Teddy Ruxpin. A very cleverly made animatronic toy from 1984.

    Great video. I got a Teddy Ruxpin for Christmas and still have it. The battery compartment is messed up and sometimes he works and sometimes he doesn't. I use to play Van Halen and other cassettes in him. If you turn the volume up enough it will make his eyes and mouth move. Not to the words or music. But still move.

    0:08 check the date again, copyright says "1984, 1985" meaning it came out in 1985. From what I researched, the prototype was first copyrighted in 1984, then pitched around to toy companies (hence why it was copyrighted before that so no company could easily copy it), then in 1985 an agreement was made to be manufactured by Worlds of Wonder. That's why it has two copyright years on it. They didn't release them in 1984, because no company had made them yet, late-1985 was his release not long before Christmas, which is why he was so hot that year, which carried over into 1986 again making him the best selling toy that holiday.

    Great job on the Teddy Rux restoration! I had always wanted to see what one of these looked like inside. As for the tape, I kind of figured that they were using one channel for the audio and the other to control the face movements. BTW, looking up the wiki it says the toy was released in 1985, but it is likely that they had the copyrights earlier, or manufacturer if your Teddy Rux was labeled otherwise. That being said, it would have been one of the earliest production models. So you were 15 when it came out? You and I are VERY close in age. Nice to know you are a Gen-X'er as well! Great stuff! Keep up with the great work. I always enjoy what you do...bringing back these toys of the past back to life.

    There is definitly no corrosion damage. So I am wondering if the belts need replacement. Where would I find these little belts 14:50 ? And also, what’s the devise 18:12 you use to test the mechanics?
    Again! Thank you so much for your post!

    • @RandiRain
      @RandiRain  6 місяців тому

      Thank you... I'm sure the belts need to be replaced. You can find a bag of different sizes on ebay real cheap. The motors might not have turned in a long time and gummed up. You can clean them up, or squirt oil in them, turn manually until it goes. The device was just a power supply to turn it on. You can use batteries or whatever to test it.

    A classic close up trick hand made from locally sourced black walnut. A small wooded box, roughly two inches square, has a solid brass plate inside, and a slit in the top and bottom. The brass plate clearly blocks the slits, yet an American half dollar passes right through the box.
    The Magic Coin Box comes with the brass plate and a real American half dollar.

    There are a few models, one with two motors and another with one that uses a transmission. I do think the Glo Worm sleeve design where you can pull the electronic guts out for cleaning was better, can't throw Ruxpin in the washer heh.

    So, pro tip,... Red Cayenne hot pepper sauce,.. such as Texas Pete,.. for example has the ideal acidity to neutralize the alkaline solution from leaky dry-cells, and aids in effectively inhibiting, removing the corrosive substance, subsequently with 99% alcohol solution later.

    • @RandiRain
      @RandiRain  2 роки тому +1

      Oh come on... I have like 200 videos on here showing my abilities. I've handled corrosion many times in my 50 years of life. CLR has the exact same neutralizing power, and it's better than putting hot sauce on everything. Matter of fact, if you go through my videos, you will see where I did try it once because I do know it works. I also know that it stains as well, so don't get it on anything. So pro tip... Ditch the hot sauce and just use CLR, preferably the foam bathroom cleaner with it. It does the exact same thing.

      Nothing wrong with the motors. The footage I used wasn't started at the beginning of the tape, so it didn't go through the calibration settings that are at the front of the tapes. The audio didn't record right so I didn't get to use any of the footage from where it works correctly... But it does.
