You can tell where he hits the wind at the end of the course. The whole boat came out of the water after he let off. You can see the split second where the rooster tail has a gap in it when the boat is in the air and touched back down. You can hear the boat touch come out of the water and come back down too. Badass run.
Right before he turned around it looked like he passed really close to another boat or buoy. It may have been the windshield angle making it look closer than it actually was but it made my corn hole pucker!
I'd recommend that he fasten the chin strap on his helmet. Just so it doesn't suck up on his head and cover his vision. As far as safety at that speed, it probably would not matter if he did or did not have it strapped if there was a crash...... Congratulations, that is hauling the mail right there! Paul
@@scottgillman4577 Actually it does , it protects your head on the way out of the boat then comes off instead of breaking your neck when you hit the water . No one I know buckles them . Seen too many broken necks from it catching the water .
If you buckle the helmet and get thrown out the boat, what if water catches on the helmet? Instead of ripping it off it’s gonna damn near rip your head off! Most people wanna take their chances with it unbuckled!
I’ve been 155+, by the GPS, on Lake Powell, also a Skater. Pretty scary at first, then overwhelmingly fun. The weirdest thing? Once we slowed down to around 100 it seemed like we were just crawling.
200+ in an open boat is asking for trouble.... Garth Tagge and James Melley proved that, with their lives. IMPRESSIVE performance but still... A capsule won't guarantee your safety but it will help...
I don’t think the video does the run justice because it seems like a run down the interstate, no muss no fuss. Congratulations on those runs for both of you.👍👍
I was just watching a video that showed how many people died trying to get boats to go 200 mph and now you have modern stuff designed so well it looks kinda boring lol. That's how a planted boat should look tho.
@@rickbullock4331 There's never zero wind out here and and at the end of the run it looks like the surface of the lake wasn't perfect. I think he did mention a section with some wind. But the boat is made for this.
Everyone just ignoring @2:42 ?...waaaaay to close to an unsuspecting boat traveling away from him...."Gary Smith the water is yours" should mean the whole run is clear....WTF happened?...thank god Gary was heads up huh...
Gary, Wow! But honestly, the helmet not being strapped on, won't help much, might not even being strapped on and secured properly. The life jacket at 204 is merely to help find the body, if something went wrong. But, WOW!! 204 in an open cockpit Skater is fantastic!
Sooooooo this is what I want my wifey and I to do 😂😂 she'd be shitting herself but would definitely be my driver too . Great to see this video I'm all inspired now !!! Off to work I go
I think he's going to be surprised how quick his record is going to get broken there's quite a few boats coming out the next 1 to 3 years that are capable of breaking that record and then some!
Helmets are a great idea…too bad at 204.1 mph they will not save you. You crash - you die. Excellent boat and excellent driver, but fact is stuff happens and when it does….we’ll, you gone brother. I wish this boat and all its driver, safety and success, but no such guarantees exist at those speeds. Remarkable achievement. great job.
Whoopty Doo how long did it take you to go that fast? Blown gas hydros, Top Fuel hydro do that speed plus 30 mph easily 32 seconds quicker take your money and put it somewhere else
Thanks Circus Media, and many thanks to Gary for sticking with the passion. It’s a joy to watch.
I do what I do for these types of comments, thank you so much!!! Made my day 😁💯
My thoughts exactly.
Thought the exact same thing.

This is incredible. And here I am chasing 65MPH !
Same and spent 25 grand!!!!

As windy as it was Saturday, im impressed he ran 200. Kudos and congrats to the Smiths.
I've been 108mph on the water and I thought that was fast. 204.1mph is close to double that. I'm impressed.
He nutted up on that run, squirrely as hell at the end.Looks like he damn near took out the right end of course marker too.👏👍🥸
Great interview at the end and congratulations guys on that time.
I had a 77 mph boat years ago....lots of fun...but 200...daaammmm
That is KICK A$$! Gave me a rush just watching. Well done!

Exactly. Helmet does no good without the strap.

Beautiful boat. Congrats.
Did a spectator boat almost get obliterated at 200+ mph at the end of the run on his starboard side (@2:42 mark)!?
Great run especially under those conditions!
Yeeaaahh watch Donald cambells run 1967 there’s a guy with big balls…RIP DONALD CAMBELL 1921-1967
I think I had an eargasm listening to that motor 😍
there's Skater, and then there's everyone else. #SkaterNation
Until a bit of chop kicks up in the ocean, then you wish you were in a 47 Apache.
@@signoresantinoburnett1169 id step up to a boat like "Kong" or call it a day.

Awesome!
CRAZY COOOOL!! 👊💥
Amazing!
Gary does great in the desert.
Hammer down boy.
Please come to the Chesapeake in mid July for the the tiki lees shoot 3rd annual. People would go nuts to see this. Short course though 😭
So sick! I was hoping there would be a camera on his boat!
what good is the helmet if he does not buckle it on????
Where's the fishing rod holders?
Wow wow wow!👌👌💪💪
What engines and what props did you use.

Watch the boat really the buckle on the body be safe take the win 🏆 Smarter high speed that reality ..
What is/was in the back seat at the 1:13 Mark.... It looks like it went on the floor or did it blow out
That’s his wife’s helmet. Don’t know where it ended up.
Crazy speed and even more crazy to not do up your helmet !!
Buckled helmet breaks your neck when you hit the water , you will never see one buckled.

@@bradbutcher3984 it actually will matter , break your neck if it's strapped on .
Gary have you seen the monster Skater 588XXL they were building?
I have
Is this guys had v hull at lake Cumberland in the late90s same name Predator
Beautifull boat, sounds amazinng,be nice to see a clip from a helicopter.looked like a bit of chine walk as he slowed down.would love a ride in that 😊
If I AN’T Doing 204 On The Road,I Sure As “Hell” AN’T Doing It On “WATER!”😂😂😂
Damn, who else saw him almost clock that boat on the right?!!
Fucking hell that family at 2:40 almost got killed
Whoa lol I bet they freaked out :P
A little close there @2:42. Who *were* those goobers?
Bad ass for sure.
Sheeeeeesh, how did we get to +200mph.....?????? Might be a story!!???
He didn't do up his helmet straps! He should have gone bare headed, that would be cool

Did bro take his hand off the wheel and look in the glove compartment?😳
Wow
yeah buddy, how many keys do you have to bring in from Bahamas to pay for such fine machines?
OMG !!!! Balls to the walls .....hehehe insanity 😆 lol
Tommy Boston you can’t buckle into an open cockpit boat. If the boat capsizes you will drown. Not that it matters at 200 mph.
2:42 no good!
Glad im noton board d

why bother with a helmet if yiu dont buckle it? did i miss that
At 204 mph…..it don’t even matter.
Or have a visor… 😂 it’ll rip his face off at 200 mph.
He had the kill switch on he's good!😂😂
At 204 your massive balls hold you in the boat.
it’s for communication
Really anything over 100 you know you re going fast, but have to look at the GPS to see where you are at.
Very cool and congrats ! but I think those dip shits in the other boats at the end should be having a chat with !
Jesus what in the world does that guy do for a living to afford that boat?
Helmet, no chin strap is pretty much useless bro! Guess you are just going thru the motions.
388cc engine?
Oops, two engines, so aboot 790cc displacement! Awesome work! If the boater fellow lost 10 pounds, he could go a bit faster.
