Couldn't agree more with you, Koolgool. I've beaten this game several times now. Once when I was much younger and the rest when I was older. It just never gets old and the story is incredible.
Drawoh dot Hell yes. One of the best games ever made. Pretty much perfect in every way. To this day, I don't think I've come across a game that had more love put into it than Chrono Trigger. If you are even remotely a fan of JRPG's, you owe it to yourself to play this. The defining title in the genre.
I remember my first time playing CT. Seems just like yesterday, when it was actually just under ten years ago. Now I see more people are still getting to experience it for the first time. That's when you know a game is timeless (pun only slightly intended).
I didn't really care for zeal for some reason... at least not at the time. Not high enough energy. I think I'm starting to like it more now that I'm about 20 years older though.
xelink 12,000 B.C. is so awesome in that game, especially when you first enter and it appears to be nothing more than a snow-covered world... Until you travel up to Zeal.
Chrono Trigger is the most beautiful game I have ever played, the atmosphere and story is amazing, I almost teared up when I heard this.. ah, those were the days... :,D
The crazy bit is. I remember when this video came out and being so excited that you did a cover of Chrono Trigger. And here I am. Almost 10 years older and my how everything has changed. I still love you rendition no matter how different of a person I am now
I’m 39 and grew up in what I consider to be the golden age of video games. So many of the songs give me a strong emotional response, and a realization that life is moving faster and faster as we age. Hang on to your twenties as best as you can my friend. Invest in strong relationships so you don’t have regrets. 😊
Holy shit I wanna cry. I was lucky enough to play this game when it came out... the music always had an impact. I’m nearing 40 and nothing has changed! I love CT.
My uncle's and I used to play this everyday after school when it came out. Now everyone has their own family's including me but this is just a beautiful walk down memory lane for me
Today's release of Schala's theme brought me here for nostalgia....Corridors of Time, Schala and Magus' theme are my favorites in the entire game. I've got a thing for Zeal, evidently
I love how he always looks happy in his videos. People tend to make fun of video game music or at least not take it seriously but for me it brings back very happy memories and nostalgia. Songs done like this just make me smile and be in a better place instantly. Thanks and well done Smooth McGroove.
Not to mention the fact that video game soundtrack is indeed something really serious. I mean... someone came up with something that would make you fell however you feel. And to do that the composer used apropriate techniques and experience he got through years studying and practicing music. I am a musician and I don't have any idea on how to achieve this or that atmosphere for a given scenario... =)
I imagine it's a lot like a movie. Sure, the actors might suck and the plot could be terrible, but the one thing that is SUREFIRE to set the mood is the music. In this case, the music is icing on the cake.
It was actually THIS particular video, some years ago that really made me realize Smooth here wasn't just making vids to nod the head to but really engraving a piece of his soul onto em. Hell..one cant HELP but smile...even if the melancholy memories of years gone by come flodding back in.
This is the one track from this game that completely floored me. Not just the music itself, but the context in which it's presented. You're sent to a icy wasteland and then suddenly surprised by a sunny Shangri-la/Atlantis like paradise with this track to bring home that point.
This game is actually close to my heart. It's the game that my dad told me to play. I remember playing it day and night. I'll run to him whenever i need help or I'd I'm stuck. He taught me triple combo and other triple techniques. He reminisce how he plays it with his friends and how hard it is to beat back then cause there's no net. Now I rarely see my dad. He left home.. He left us and this reminss me of how close we are before.. Sorry got sentimental..
I'd have given anything to live in Enhasa. Gotta be one of the coolest environments in any rpg. Just beautiful... before it falls out of the sky n shit.
My childhood....Every time I hear this song... I'm back on my reserve. Trying to understand English and trying my damndest to read this stuff and figure out the game... ;-; Thank you for giving me this moment in time back, Smooth McGroove.
Smooth this is still one of my favorite acapellas you have made this and the wandering flame from ffx. The depth and range of your voice is outstanding.
Man its really cool how you can hear the harmonies so well here :D still to this day one of the most unique sounding harmonies ive ever heard. Unreal how the composer was so young ^__^
Checkpoint: 20-10-2024 Today, I'm surprised I'm barely finding out McGroove covered this song. No matter how many years go by the skill and quality never decline and I appreciate every bit of content you put out! Currently dealing with my GERD issues, but also feeling extra nostalgic thanks to this video. I hope everyone is doing well and know that you matter regardless of what anyone, including yourself, thinks or says! Peace be with you all~
As someone who generally hates JRPGs, I loved Chrono Trigger. It's a brisk 20-25 hour game that doesn't waste your time with needless grinding and has an amazing story.
This track is so good I wish I had played the game when I was still a child so that the nostalgia would be overwhelming today. Too bad it was ahead of my time.
Your a smart person for realizing this and already steps ahead of the lost generation. Play this game and make it your own. It will always be in your heart afterwards.
Munzu The power of art is that it outlives generations. Just as you can enjoy Dickens or Virgil today, and make them part of your life, you can do too with videogames made before your time.
Munzu Ah. Also Nostalgia is typically a bad thing. Its the primary emotion used in propaganda. Just something to keep in mind. I'm amazed that I played it only a few years ago and then, and now, feel its a work of art. Knowing its NOT nostalgia that fuels my love of the game is a great feeling.
This was the song that actually led me to your channel Smooth. The song that got me to subscribe. Here it is almost 3 years later and Im still listening to it and loving it.

I played this game almost 15 years ago, and it was just by coincidence, just searching for good rpg games, and then, this masterpiece appeared, the moment when you enter the Zeal kingdom and this song hits... man.... just wonderful.
I played this game when I was at university in the early 2000's. Couldn't believe 24 years have already passed by... Anyway, this was one of my best JRPGS together with FF7, FF8 and FFX and legend of dragoon. Many memories and emotions. You are a MAGUS ;-) Epic work!
Thank you so much, Smooth McGroove! If my 8- or 9-year-old self had never seen this video, I would've never known of the pure gem that is Chrono Trigger. I really appreciate the fact that you covered a song from this wonderful game, and I like to believe that you lead many people to discover and play it.

they really don't, do they ? It's sad... We were supposed to get a 3rd game to finally wrap up the series, but that got cancelled after like 3 or 4 years of nothing.

This song brings tears to my eyes... :,I So many wonderful memories are connected to this game and this song in particular... I used to play it with my mother back in the day. Hearing this song made me choke up a little. :,(

One of my all-time favorite tracks, and he KILLS this rendition. Best cover ever.
Impressive singing, and such nostalgia. I'm actually replaying the game on Android at the moment, having first played it emulated 15 years ago, and it really has aged remarkably well. I'm really amused by the cat at 1:30 :)

i love that part where he says bum bum bum bum :) amazing smooth mc groove keep up the good work !!! Your like a Viking with the sound of an angelic Valhalla :).
Wow,same. I've played this like..i don't know,30 times,maybe more. And everytime i got into Zeal,i make the Crono,Lucca and Marle trio while saying to the others: "sorry,bro. Only pure magic people,yo". I would love to bring Magus,but you can only bring him there is using cheats.. ;-;
RichterBelmontITA damn right brotha man! They were about creating amazing stories with lovable characters and hours of fun gameplay! None of this soulless money-making drivel they spew where EVERY OTHER GAME is a shooter -__-
Alright, I don't usually do this sort of thing, but CHRONO TRIGGER NEEDS YOUR HELP. If you go to gamefaqs, they're having a vote for the best game ever - and chrono trigger is LOSING to super smash bros melee. bitch YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO CHANGE THE FUTURE
+AGR Double H There's really no need to compare the two. I'm sure even Toby Fox himself would agree that Chrono Trigger is a more epic game. The better man would simply appreciate both games for what they are.
LightofLand The entire game of Chrono Trigger is bittersweet to me. It's one of my favorite games of all time...and it always reminds me of an old childhood friend who I haven't seen or heard from in years. He's the one who first introduced me to the game 18 or so years ago. We played through the entire game one summer, and it was one of the best summers of my life. Everytime I play this game and hear the music...it invokes strong memories of a wonderful time in my life that has long since passed.
I love this game, I have gotten every ending and loved every moment of it. I was a child rpg player and am now an adult rpg player. You can never replace the classics of yesteryear. who here agrees? give a thumbs up if you agree
I have never played Chrono Trigger, and I've played alot of games he did do acapella's on. But this must be my favourite one of them all. Amazing. Luckily we don't have to decide which one we can hear or not. :P
omniXenderman Oh wow... I downloaded it on an emulator (since I lost my snes) and it's as amazing as I expected it to be. And I'm not even a fan of rpgs really, but in this game the action keeps going without turns really. I'm not very far yet, can't wait to see what's going to happen next.
"This is the eternal kingdom of Zeal, where dreams can come true. But at what price?"

Wow,same. I've played this like..i don't know,30 times, maybe more. And everytime i got into Zeal,i make the Crono,Lucca and Marle trio while saying to the others: "sorry, bro. Only pure magic people,yo".
I would love to bring Magus,but you can only bring him there is using cheats.. ;-;
Dude the clapping followed by the finger snaps.... GENIUS! God bless you Smooth. You have a fan for life.
I was not expecting this today...
Liked and subbed!
Am I the only one having goosebumps?
No xD
Jordan Beckker Once upon a time videogames were soulish masterpieces. :)
RichterBelmontITA damn right brotha man! They were about creating amazing stories with lovable characters and hours of fun gameplay! None of this soulless money-making drivel they spew where EVERY OTHER GAME is a shooter -__-
***** Even after many years I still play those games :)
RichterBelmontITA
when, because it certainly wasn't this game.
Would really like to hear you do the Ocean Palace. Also, some music from Chrono Cross begs to be done.
yes, Yes, YES! So much agreement in this message.
Like this guys comment to DEATH everyone!
Ocean Palace would be so awesome!
still gives me chills
I like all your songs, but this was is fantastic.
SMOOTH MCGROOVE I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Having heard him "sing" this and hearing him do U.N Owen Was Her... I would probably die happy if he ever did Time's Scar from Chrono Cross.
+MuroKhan A game no one played.
Xilo Channel Well, no one born before 2005 like I'm sure you were.
Holy crap. I stumbled on your videos in my recommended section and....wow...This really is amazing.
Please do *Time's Scar* from Chrono Cross. ;)
+Albino Bob Oh yeah
+Albino Bob Yes plz ;~;
Yesss
+Albino Bob Either that, or home world arni village from Chrono Cross. ^_^
+Albino Bob Oh man, I would love to see Smooth perform some Chrono Cross tracks!
Smooth McGoove is incapable of disappointing
omg you just did a capella versions of all games that made me a gamer!!! so melancholic T^T
...You mean nostalgic?
Sir William Reginald Armchair YES! THX!!!! haha
Never played Chrono Trigger, but I'm nostalgic for this video. 😂
BUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Love the mcgroove.
始めの部分は口笛なのか・・・すごすぎる
the best one
I freaking love your cover of this!
Alright, I don't usually do this sort of thing, but CHRONO TRIGGER NEEDS YOUR HELP.
If you go to gamefaqs, they're having a vote for the best game ever - and chrono trigger is LOSING to super smash bros melee.
bitch YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO
CHANGE THE FUTURE
+SkyofMaster Yeah. Pro players (like me) voted for Melee, and it got 2nd to Undertale.
+Jatinder Gill But the future refused to change... :(
+Jatinder Gill but we all know C.T is way ass better
+AGR Double H There's really no need to compare the two. I'm sure even Toby Fox himself would agree that Chrono Trigger is a more epic game. The better man would simply appreciate both games for what they are.
Bangin! Makes me wanna go set up my emulator and get it again! Thanks Smooth McGroove
When I went back after seeing this, I kept imagining this rendition!
lol. This dude is bad man!
I definitely listen to this on repeat!
I need to play this game one day. Its just one of those games that i never had growing up and fell under the radar
Still think this is his best
I agree
He has a lot of good ones but this one definitely brings back some really good memories. Love that game.
Tu as fais de moi un homme heureux avec ce morceau
I like this theme, but is somewhat sad...
Zeal itself is a sad place - an empire on the verge of collapse yet no one's aware of it. We know it doesn't end well and that adds to it.
Agree!
To me its song about Zeal's memory, so it is both melancholy and happy.
It can be bittersweet to remember something good that isn't around anymore.

The entire game of Chrono Trigger is bittersweet to me.
This song reminds me of Janus every time i hear it. :(
This is genuinely a masterpiece
I love this game, I have gotten every ending and loved every moment of it. I was a child rpg player and am now an adult rpg player. You can never replace the classics of yesteryear. who here agrees? give a thumbs up if you agree
I have never played Chrono Trigger, and I've played alot of games he did do acapella's on. But this must be my favourite one of them all. Amazing. Luckily we don't have to decide which one we can hear or not. :P
i would play it if i were you...its a turn(ish) based rpg. you time travel in it so thats cool
omniXenderman Oh wow... I downloaded it on an emulator (since I lost my snes) and it's as amazing as I expected it to be. And I'm not even a fan of rpgs really, but in this game the action keeps going without turns really. I'm not very far yet, can't wait to see what's going to happen next.
Definitely takes me back to a simpler time. Didn't have to worrry about shit back then except looking forward to your next Blockbuster game rental.
Dude, you do all of these so spot on - the nostalgia effect is like x10 because of 100% perfection.
