    Checkpoint: Hearing this holy melody once more, remixed and altered, is both comforting and invigorating. I do recognize this place is not meant to replace what me and many others once called our digital home, but I believe at least one entry here is fitting for this fantastic cover of this sacred song.
    Things in my personal life have been crazy. Tons of new experiences, pleasures and pains, you name it. My life has changed immensely from the day I began "saving my game" to this melody. Hearing this upbeat cover reminds of how much I've grown as an individual. Right now, I am nearing the end of my college class. It's been very hard, and I'm not even sure I will pass. Regardless of what happens, I know to keep going toward opportunities in my life.
    Thank you for this cover of one of my favorite songs ever composed.

    I'd like to preface this by clarifying that I'm not a musician, but I have a layman's understanding of how chiptune works that may or may not be correct.
    At the beginning, I was already impressed with how you managed to make this sound at least as orchestral-sounding as the original, complete with a sitar and gamelan (with the original, I actually mistook it for a steel tongue drum; you learn something new every day), but then you somehow re-created the sound of an acoustic guitar with a fucking *FM channel*, and it absolutely blew my mind. I had to double-check that the sound wasn't coming from a really high-quality DCPM sample.
    Part of what makes Chrono Trigger's music so impressive on the SNES alone is how most of the time, you can easily identify what an instrument in supposed to represent, despite the compression; something you managed to capture very well considering the limitations of the YM2608. In the case of the original SNES version, if I had to guess, I'd say this is owed both to Yasunori Mitsuda's talent as a composer, and the fact that Chrono Trigger was released late in the lifetime of the SNES. With earlier titles, like Super Mario World, the instrument samples were so clipped and compressed that I was only ever able to figure out what they represented after hearing one of those restorations that have been making the rounds over the past couple of years.

    Always love the little bit of flavor your throw in with your arrangements. Whether it's the breakdown vibes, jazzy solos or impeccably smooth outros, they're all very distinctly yours; it's a signature sound that a lot of artists doing covers don't ever achieve.

    Loved the key and instrument change. This absolutely feels like what a port of Chrono Trigger would sound like to the NEC PC9821/24 or Fujitsu FM Towns 2 with the RF5C164.

    2:05 to 2:40 is my favorite part and I think it's criminal that it's so short!!! I enjoyed that part so much it leaves me feeling like John respected the original too much? Regardless, this mix sounds super clean and the ending is just beautiful!!!

      i don't think i mentioned it but i was actually incredibly lazy working on this, i was supposed to expand this more but i didn't get to it

    • @bad1boy34
      @bad1boy34 8 місяців тому +2

      @@johntayjinf wow, this is really good for something done lazily but i couldn't help but notice that in the video you said something about taking a break. I think its a good idea if youre losing motivation on your projects. I look forward to your rearrangements and originals but I'd be saddened to see your passion for music fade away because you grinded it too hard. I promise people will love your music just as much even if it comes out later. We can wait, we just don't want to because you're that good!

      I was REALLY impressed with the original section. It didn't feel out of place, but like a natural extension of the direction the arrangement was going. Something that probably wouldn't work in-game, but as a piece of music it really adds a lot to the piece.

    This is so well done. I had no idea I needed this in my life. Sometimes, when I hear something covered or rearranged from this soundtrack, little details pop out that I never noticed before. For instance, I think this was the first time I noticed how similar the melody and rhythm of the bells sound so much like the harp at the beginning of 'To Far Away Times'. Brilliant soundtrack.
