So I’m going to date my self...Feel Like Making Love was the first record (45) I ever owned thank you for bringing back such a special memory. FYI-still have it and a record player to play it on.
Bad Company's lead vocalist, Paul Rogers, was in the band "Free" before he was in Bad Company. They had a hit with "Alright Now". After Bad Company, Paul teamed up with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page to form the band "The Firm" and they had a hit with the song "Radioactive". More recently, Paul toured with the remaining members of the band "Queen".
Oh my Chod, so happy to see you react to Bad Company. I have always enjoyed them musically and Paul Rogers' vocals are great. Please, please try Feel Like Making Love, Ready For Love, Can't Get Enough or Bad Company by them, especially Bad Company. Thanks for this Paul Rogers memory.
The point of the song is that Johnny was destined to live fast and die young. 'Don't you know that you are a shooting star...And all the world will love you as long as you are' (and then quickly move on to the next shooting star). And Johnny is a go to name for a song character in a song about a rock and roll musician, ever since Chuck Berry's monster hit 'Johnny B. Goode' back in the mid-fifties. Paul Rogers is one of the best rock vocalists ever and you will probably like his work with his earlier band Free at least as much as his Bad Company material. You may have already heard Free's biggest hit 'All Right Now'.
The thing that's easy to miss in these lyrics is that shooting stars aren't rising, they're falling. The whole time he's been saying that Johnny is a shooting star, he's been letting you know how the story is going to end.
That's kind of the whole point of popular music, grab your moment in the sun while you can because it fades very quickly. That's why most of these reactors even have a channel, because these rock bands they're listening to aren't around making music for today's radio any more. I'm so glad you're here, Chod, so this music isn't forgotten. You're keeping it alive and appreciated.
So many good songs from Bad Company .... some less popular but great songs to listen to are "Seagull", "Simple Man", "Rock Steady" and "Fade Away". Must listen would be "Bad Company" and "Feel Like Makin Love",
Some legendary songs from one of the best leading singers in Paul Rogers! He played with the band Free before this, the band the Firm later on and even toured as the leading vocalist with the Band QUEEN Years after Freddie died!
Bad Company was actually managed by Peter Grant of Zeppelin, and they were the first band signed to the Zeppelin Swan Song label. Paul Rodgers went on to do vocals in Jimmy Plant’s post-Zeppelin band The Firm....they released two albums and toured but didn’t make a long run of it.
Here are some mostly uptempo numbers by them that I don’t see mentioned in the comments so much: Good Lovin’ Gone Bad; Wildfire Woman; Runnin’ With the Pack; Rock Steady; Sweet Little Sister; Burnin’ Sky; Heartbeat: Fade Away; Morning Sun.
Bad Company is a true commercial arena rock band heavy on guitar, but the charm of this song and what really sets it apart for me is the use of acoustic guitar in the verses before the electrics take over on the chorus. And of course, Paul Rogers vocals are outstanding.
This is the first band LED Zeppelin’s label, “Swan Song” signed. Jimmy Page performed with Paul Rogers, Bad Company’s lead singer in a group called the firm. Later, after Freddy died, Paul Rogers sang with Queen for a time.
Bad Company was the first artist signed up under the new record label, Swan Song, by Led Zeppelin. Bad Company was a super group, led by the powerful vocals of Paul Rodgers. As a fan of this group from its self titled debut album in 1974. I would highly recommend listening to it in its entirety before "Moving On" (an excellent tune from it)! Three other excellent songs from their sophomore record are "Feel Like Making Love," "Deal With the Preacher," and the opening cut, "Good Lovin' Gone Bad." Several other good songs from later albums: "Silver Blue and Gold," "Burnin' Sky," Rock 'n Roll Fantasy" and "Gone Gone Gone." 💙💙💙💙
They have a song "Bad Company" that rocks. Also, "Feel like makin' love" and "Rock and Roll fantasy". Check out the concert video when he fronted Queen back in mid 2000's called "Return of the Champions". One of the loudest concerts I've ever been to.
One of the greatest rock voices ever in Paul Rodgers! Btw when Led Zeppelin started their own record label Swan Song this was the first band they signed and years later Paul Rodgers would join Jimmy Page in his great band The Firm
I was born in 1970 and I think that my generation had the best music ever made and Paul Rogers and his band Bad Company was one of the best for classic rock bands If you like the blues Paul Rogers made a tribute album to the father of the blues Muddy Waters
I listened to this song over over over over just to get every bit of lyric and nuance. That ending chorus/run is hard to nail. 🔥❤🔥 My favorite BC song!!
Hello Chod, really appreciate your past comments about live music showing the real talent. Artists actually performing. With that said, please check out "Telegraph Road" in Sevilla 26.07.2015. This is Mark Knopler (Dire Straits founder, lead guitarist and lead singer) playing his 1982 song LIVE ... What is that, 33 years later. It's absolutely incredible.
So much more for you. Feel like makin love, don’t let me down, bad company, seagull, silver blue and gold, rock steady, can’t get enough. That’s a good start
Bad Co. can't go wrong, Paul Rogers, one of the best voices in Rock n, Roll. Chod, please check out Tedeschi, Trucks band. Midnight in Harlem, ORGAN, AMAZING VOCALS, GUITAR, BASS, ETC. I Found another reactor, 1yr ago. Thanks, HIPPIE JOE
I always thought the song was about Paul Kossoff , the Free guitarist, who died on a flight to the US at the age of 26 after years of drug problems. The Free song "Wishing Well" is about him.
Always thought this song was about Hendrix, though I don’t see anything officially mentioned about it. But someone posted these song facts that make you wonder. “ I think the song about Jimi Hendrix. His name was Johnny before his father changed his name to Jimi. Wine and sleeping pills were found by his bed side. “And when the wind blows” came from. The wind cry’s Mary from Jimi’s song.”
The character is built around what is known now as the "27 club",artists who died by the age of 27 but left a lasting impact in music or film despite their short-lived careers. Examples include Jimi Hendrix,Kurt Cobain,Amy Winehouse,Jim Morrison,Janis Joplin....all 27 when they died.
Another suggestion for the song "Bad Company". Yes, the song "Bad Company". By the band Bad Company. From the album "Bad Company". For me, it's the definitive Bad Company song.
You like story’s. Please check out one of the greatest storytellers ever. Harry Chaypin (Chay-pin) either studio or live. “Taxi” and “Sequel” (10 years later he wrote part 2 of Taxi) “A better place to be” “Mr Tanner” “WOLD” “Cats in the cradle” Harry unfortunately died way too young in a car accident, but he was one of the early artist to really get into charity and World Hunger benefits. And a great listen. Thank You for the great channel.
Has there been any other group/band where their Name , Album, and Song all been the same? Besides Bad Company? Example: Band - Bad Company, Album name - Bad Company, Song - Bad Company
The lead singer Paul Rogers came from a band called 'Free'... they had a huge hit with a song called 'All Right now'... You should try that one.. The bass player I believe came from Mott the Hoople.
I got to see Bad Company in 2002. It was a a Harley Davidson 100 year anniversary, all weekend event. The anniversary was actually in 2003. Anyway, I digress. They were great and Paul Rodgers was back with the band. This unfortunately chronicles the lives of many Rock stars.
Great reaction. Glad you made it to the Bad Company rabbit hole. They have tons of material that you should enjoy. There are several suggestions and there are no wrong choices. I'd say you have to do their song "Bad Company" next, then try "Rock Steady" or "Feel Like Making Love." That should get you hooked well enough that you keep exploring their music. Take care...
Great reaction to this old classic!! Remembered every word as if it was yesterday!! You should check out the song “Bad Company”! Be well and God Bless... from Texas!
If you like BASS, then one of the best bass players of his generation Peter Hook - is in a band called NEW ORDER - an electronic dance band that is iconic. The band was the first, to use the bass as a lead instrument ie replacing the guitar with bass riffs. Incredible stuff and band.
This is your first reaction to Bad Co......... can't believe you didn't start with 'Can't Get Enough', 'Feel Like Makin Love', or 'Bad Company'. After you've emerged from the Bad Company rabbit hole you can immerse yourself in the Free one next to it. Paul Rodgers started with Free, as did Simon Kirke. 'Fire & Water', 'Wishing Well', 'Mr Big', 'Come Together In The Morning', 'The Stealer'. Edit: Free's Andy Fraser was a great bass player, he wrote most of Alright Now (PR added some lyrics)
Hey Chod, I'm suggesting a group I've never seen requested or reacted to. Their name is "Budgie". They are an early 70's Welsh "soft"? metal band, a song that might appeal to you with a drum solo intro is "You're the Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk" from the "Never Turn Your Back on a Friend" Album. This is my favourite album with some really great upbeat tracks and awesome slow ones. Even if you don't react give them a listen, cheers.
Me and a good friend in the 70s used to play I ts alright now and be on our roller skates and grab hands and roll in a circle listening to this song..what a fucking rush it was..
The main element of Bad Company must be the vocals of Paul Rodgers, widely acclaimed as the best Rock/Blues voice. Checkout Free his first Band. The Firm with Jimmy Page . Lots more good stuff from Bad Company not least the track with the same name as the Band. A great colaberation with Joe Bonamassa too. Awesome solo albums too... Too many great tracks to mention.... Just the best Voice 👍👍
I don't know why, but there's something special about their using the plosive 't' in the word shooting instead of a soft 't' the way it's usually pronounced.
Ahh another great old band!!1 Check out Rock and roll fantasy, or Can't get enough..... ok you still gotta check out the drum duet? los endos Genesis cheers
The song is about how too many rock stars destroy themselves with drugs and alcohol just as they are peaking in their career ie Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison.
Would you be ever so kind and react to Graveyard Train by CCR and Ina Gadda da Vida by Iron Butterfly. Please and thank you, you won't be disappointed.
Hey, I just wanted to let you know he's done the drum battle but I'm totally with you on gov't mule the great soulshine, Warren Haynes! !! Right on brother. HIPPIE JOE
Another great song by Bad Company that you haven't listened to yet is SEAGULL. I actually like the live version of Seagull better than the recorded version.
I am still pushing you to check out Tommy Bolin "Post Toastee" studio version - the 40 yr old bootlegs don''t do it justice. Next: "People, People" your life will never be the same!
Bad Company's song called "Bad Company" is one to react to.
From the album of the same name...
Absolutely!
Yes
Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy and Feel Like Makin' Love are good choices.

Should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. They call him "the voice" because his vocals are so good.

The song Bad Company, the title cut off the album Bad Company (their first album) was their biggest hit.
I thought it was Feel Like Making Love...but maybe not.

Paul Rogers is hands done one of the best rock singers ever.
Paul Rodgers has one of the best rock voices of all time . .
The point of the song is that Johnny was destined to live fast and die young. 'Don't you know that you are a shooting star...And all the world will love you as long as you are' (and then quickly move on to the next shooting star). @@joecavazos1786 Yep. Living fast and dying young.
My favorite BadCo song, a fable about living life too hard&too fast, Paul Rogers singing is always a good thing..

So many good songs from Bad Company .... some less popular but great songs to listen to are "Seagull", "Simple Man", "Rock Steady" and "Fade Away". Must listen would be "Bad Company" and "Feel Like Makin Love",

Shooting star means those who make it to the big time so quickly. And those who are the most talented seem to burn so bright and leave us too soon.
