I was stationed in West Germany in the early 80's when I first heard the music of Asia. this performance is an example of outstanding excellence. the music is just as extrodinary today as it was 40+ years ago. Many thanks for sharing this video. Touches deep for me.
Incredible lineup. This is, by far, the best people Geoff could have found. Harry is out of this world good. Mr. Mitchell is very impressive. The drums were spot on. Asia lives!
Superb. Was hoping to find a full show. Does not disappoint at all. Great to hear songs like 'Cutting it fine' in their full majesty. The new line-up is a formidable meeting of equals, with each player at the top of their game and bringing their own personality, while honouring the spirit of the original arrangement. Virgil in particular is as insanely good as ever.
I have been following Asia since their first album came out…I was 11 years old. I loved and love that first album. I have been listening to them since then with all the personal changes. They have been pretty solid and with Wetton or Payne leading bass and vocals they always seemed to keep the core DNA going. I am enjoying seeing them continue to evolve. I like the three + Geoff. THANKS FOR POSTING!!!
Thank you so much for posting this! I really wanted to see them on this tour, but they didn't have any dates close enough to make it to. I've seen several different variations of Asia live, and these guys hold up the history of talented musicians who have been in the band well. Love that Harry has JW's basses. He must be looking down smiling....
Wuuaah , Asia en directo !! . K puntazo y momentazo poder ver a esta graann BANDA en directo , aunque sea con los grandes cambios k han avido con el tiempo siguen sonando muyy BIEN👍
Saw this show when a friend gave me a ticket he couldn't use. Wasn't expecting much. How are you going to replace Wetton, Howe and Palmer? But these guys gave it a great effort. The singer/bassist, Harry Whitley, sounds much like Wetton, he did just a brilliant job. The guitarist does a great job of emulating Howe without going overboard. Solid drums. Downes making the beautiful sounds that he did best with ASIA so long ago. Highly recommend, you will remember every song.
We saw the Fort Lauderdale show on 21 Jul, awesome stuff, we are all ready for the guys to return again, such a gr8t tribute to John, many thanx! Long live ASIA!
@@jeffbauer3425 They were both solid, talented, but I have no history on them. Focus was outstanding, musicianship and musical tightness was through the roof.
Vine con pocas espectativas a ver y escuchar este video; y realmente, me sorprendiò muy gratamente. Ojalà, editen nuevo material, y no se queden solo en la nostalgia. Suenan muy bien
The vocals and backing vocals are really shining through with this lineup. All very good musicians and players, but compared to recent years, and not really fair to compare Billy’s vocal tenure as they had contracts signed, Jon Mitchell is a dual threat with his phenomenal playing and vocals. Yes, I do know there are some vocals programmed in there. This lineup shouldn’t be one and done. They need a bigger and well planned tour, perhaps opening for someone else. People love ASIA music!
I’m sure they will continue depending on how this lineup and tour are received. So far, I think they have finally found a worthy successor to John Wetton and John Payne.
Thanks for the video. Much appreciated. Love to reminisce to Asia (the 1st step on my journey from pop to rock many many moons ago). I wondered why John Mitchell wasn't playing with Arena at the Night of the Prog festival at Loreley (the final such festival). Now I realise it clashed with this Asia tour. Didn't realise John was playing in this band. Arena had a different younger guitarist who was stil very very good, although his play style and solos were a bit different.

The bass actually belonged to John Wetton, was loaned to Harry for this tour by Mrs Wetton to bring along and play onstage. It is the same bass that John used when recording the Astra album!
They're both JW's basses - his white 1982 Legacy and the other white Gemini "II" bass from 2007. I personally thing they sound so weak. The bass balls of Asia was always either John's 61' Fender (bass tone on the first album is absolutely sublime), or the Victory.
Is that a slice of Steve Hackett at the 09:30 mark? I didn't hear that at the Spartanburg show. And nice recording! There at the 11:27 mark Mitchell sounds a bit KINO with that key change. Mitchell is my new favorite!!
Why do I hear bass guitar when he's not playing? Is there a secondary bass guitar in a back room... who's filling up for musicians on the front? What's going on?
That guitarist may not look the part, but he was good, and had the tone down. These guys are great at their craft and professional, and Downs is on keyboards, I'll take it over 80 yr old Steve Howe and Palmer. Plus if he had a bass amp working 100% it would have sounded fuller. He was pissed about it during Sole Survivor, you could tell the way he sung the last verse.
Jon Mitchell on Gtr is a part of one of my favorite bands that still put out new music; FROST*. If you like pop infused Prog like Asia you should check out their stuff; particularily Milliontown or Falling Satelites albums.
It's hard to imagine a better choice to replace Carl. Virgil is a brilliant performer with a filigree technique that makes music much closer to the prog. As for Harry, I am impressed by his talent and respect for classical tracks. Nevertheless, Geoff's decision to refuse to continue working with John Payne looks a little strange. Together they formed a wonderful duo that made some great and much underrated albums.
Evidently only Geoff Downes on keyboards - - decent enough tribute band though. Glad I got to see the original classic Asia at least one time in my life back in the late 2000's.
Virgil on drums, holy hell, the only thing bettere than Carl Palmer. Where is the Drum Cam?!!!!! I was blessed to have seen the origional line up twice. I wish I didnt miss this in my area. just Brilliant.
I've been the biggest Asia fan since 1982 and have seen them 5 times from then until 2012. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't pay a nickel to see this version of them. At what point do you stop calling yourself Asia and just start playing your own music? You know I love ya' Geoffrey, but you gotta let it go....
I have to say, I am far more impressed with this line up than I ever imagined I would be. The new guys deliver in a big way.
Harry is doing an amazing job. Great vocals and great bass playing!
Very talented.
Huge shoes to fill.
He's playing to a prerecorded bass track.
Yes definitely! He even looks a little like John Wetton 😅

extremely joyful when they began to play. Am convinced they still survive and very beautifully🎉

I love that! Amazing singer and John Mitchel is excellent on guitar. Geoff is, of course, the spirit of the band.

Harry's vocals are so close to Johns, Jeff Downes saw this right away, and we have Asia to enjoy again!
Fantastic !
Thanks for keeping the music alive!
Very nice show. Of course lots of songs from the classic albums Asia, Alpha and Astra. Hopefully we will see them in Europe.
Great musicians. Glad Geoff brought this together.
This makes you appreciate just how good the original ASIA really was !!!
Wow, Harry is such an incredible singer! The band sounds fantastic. So glad they are on tour. Wow, maybe a new album down the road?

Virgil Donati?!?! How the hell did he wind up in Asia? Wow!

He was already committed to something else.
The Phoenix bird rises again
Bring back Steve and Palmer this singer is amazing give him a break ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great lead vocals … musically , the band is very tight …
Tribute show. Its ok for what it is . Carl Palmer's drum parys simplified
Guitarist is spot on. Bass player ad libs too much. Good vocals though.
