T1 has announced it is suspending its League of Legends team from streaming due to a continuation of the DDoS attacks that have plagued them for the past 6 months.
Riot provided a temporary fix for the team during MSI which seemed to have worked but the attackers have found a new approach: iIf you can’t take down the T1 players directly, take down their random solo queue teammates.
Things are getting dirty and the tension between T1 and Riot is beginning to show.

Y'know, when I found out that leagues client is chrome based, my first thought was, 'This game sounds like it's being held together with duct tape'.
because it is
LoL client, other than the pre-match lobbies, is essentially a "web" browser made to browse Riot's "web" pages.
actually duct tape is VERY strong! maybe they should try it? lololol
There is nothing wrong with using electron, embedded chromium or webview to create desktop apps. Steam is such an app. So is discord. The lol client works poorly because it is just programmed like shit and Riot isn't spending the time and resources required to fix it.
@@lycanthoss sure previously this statement makes sense but how do we know currently that they’re not spending the time and resources? Having heard some stuff on how LoL was programmed I think it’s just a matter of "this is going to take a long time to fix" rather than well keep putting it off.

I don't like Riot because of them being completely owned by the CCP/Tencent (and their intrusive anti cheat likely has CCP spyware in it), but there is no other gaming company that would do anything remotely close to what Riot has been doing to stop it.
Majority, if not all, would put blame entirely on the individual or players (or org) for them to figure it out (sure, RIot puts on the tournament and it's not a good look when games get cancelled because of DDOS but that's their fault for doing it online so players can use their skins).
Riot is the only company that has pretty much stopped cheating entirely in their competitive games, especially FPS. Every other FPS game is plagued with cheating to the point their games are pretty much unplayable (CS2).

Faker is already at the age where his reflex is slowly going down if not trained, that's why he needs to train more than anyone that is younger than him.

Given that this doesn't happen for Dota, a smaller game with bigger money pots, Riot doesn't have an excuse.
Edit: to clarify - what I am trying to say is that the smaller prize pool for League tournaments means that less investment goes into making the competition secure. Riot can afford to care less, and so gives less of a shit. If the tournaments paid TI-level money, you can bet that orgs would be way more ready for lawsuits, which would force Riot to take more drastic measures to make their competitive environment less prone to manipulation.
Bigger money pots, yeah because most of dota tournament are outsourced while all league tournament are handled by riot. And also the battlepass crowdfunding. Valve only contributes 1.6 mill per year for TI.
@@Ruben.tarigan I don't get your point here. Do you think the teams participating care where money is coming from? Prize pots are bigger, that's all that matters. Riot also crowd funds worlds with % of skin sales going to it, and it's RIOT that doesn't allow third party tournaments. Everything you stated is 100% caused by riot
@@Ruben.tarigan How is the exact mechanism of tournament organization relevant here, given that what we are discussing is the desire to invest money into the security of the client? My goal was to indicate that Valve is investing actual resources into making sure the competitive environment is secure, which Riot doesn't seem to be doing - and I think it's because from a monetary perspective, the tournaments don't have as much cash riding on them. If League tournaments paid more, more effort would go into making the game more secure, since orgs would be way more invested in making the tournament fairer and would likely be more litigous.
@@rafaelmarkos4489 you never followed league esport huh? the tounaments are fine, LCK already adopted fully offline tournament since last split (after getting too many ddosed attack early on). Worlds and MSI also like that, the competitive scene is pretty much secured. So why are we talking about tournament prizepool? That's just stupid. The one problem here is the solo queue (pub match).
@@Adr3nalin3CsGO exactly my point. League team got way more money from sponsors and revenue sharing from riot. Unlike dota scenes which almost always rely on prize pool. Faker new contract got leaked earlier this year, which is aroud 6 mil USD per year. That's way more than what you get if you win TI (after sharing with your team and your teammates). So why should we care about prizepool again?
And also the quality of dota tournaments are shit. Remember 2021 TI which is being played from their hotel rooms?
I think the only thing they can do now is like what Caedrel said. Rebuild everything even if it takes months. Or better yet, just fking abandon the game and make League of Legends 2 which is a fking ridiculous thing that could happen. They have to do something, they're breached leaving them exposed. It's not gonna get solve just by patching another band aid on the cracks. Because hackers already configured out the game's code and so forth. Soon this game will die if they can't do sht.
All they have to do is turn off their flawed anti cheat. But Rito has too much pride for that. Also it means that Vanguard should be scrapped as well.
@@ImaskarDonoKorean server is not using vanguard. That mean vanguard is not the cause
Since T1 won Worlds last year, these no life people did not stop trying to put them down. Lol
we'll just sell another $500 skin that well fix it -Riot probably
one simple solution, mask the teammates username with fake ones, that way the viewer/DDos cant see the username so it could be harder to find the IP
So apparently this issue is related to riot's code leak and also their anti cheat software that is exclusively for korea. This anti cheat software also got leaked. The code was sold for millions and it was most likely bought by someone in china. T1 won the championship last year against all odds.
You can't hide them. T1 account names are known. From that you can get their live game and all teammates. Then from the leaky anticheat ddosers get the IP address and shut down the game. Rito can stop it any moment, but they won't, because it means admitting that kernel level anti cheat is the problem. That means scrapping Vanguard.
@@ImaskarDono except vanguard isn't really the issue here. The anticheat that got leaked was korean server specific, and the DDOS started happening way before vanguard was implemented in all servers. I know you hate vanguard but can we please try not to spew bullshit misinformation?

Love your unique style, never change!
T1 about to Riot!
I really hope we do get some sort of post-mortem for this when it is resolved. I don't really care for league anymore, but this intrigues the software developer in me. Are they using the leaked anti-cheat code to gain and keep access to some form of api that can give them player-data based on summoner names? That would explain how Riot can mitigate for specific accounts, by having the api return fake or no data at all for queries on specific summoner names and why the attackers now go for the random team mates. The question is how the attackers maintain access to the api. Authetication is probably baked into the client, that's how they got in initially, but they should've already changed the keys/tokens/whatver they use for that, potentially even the authentication mechanism itself. Meaning the attackers have a way to keep on top of any of these changes. Having the leaked source code probably makes decompiling any new client versions a lot easier, since only specific parts will be updated. Well, that is my half-baked theorey, maybe we'll learn one day what actually happened
Someone inside of riot has a hand in probably, or maybe has access to players accounts and information and sells it?

@@technicalleon Valorant already does this with Amazon AWS cloud tech im guessing the league team is not all there in the head.....

Oh I wouldn't call the Demacia anticheat situation just a theory, I'd say it's almost 100% confirmed but riot doesn't want to disclose any information since it's better to work on this in silence, maybe even track down who is accessing their API if they are lucky.
Lol, what silence? They should have turned it simply off. Done. But they prefer to do nothing instead. Because it means they need to scrap their precious spyware Vanguard as well

I truly hope this gets worked out for T1 soon. I can' only imagine how frustrating it must be when it is unusual to not get a DDoS attack for a few days. It also sucks how many people are making fun of T1 for not performing so well when these players are constantly having their practice time interrupted. One thing I have to say to those people is that T1 managed to win Worlds 2023 despite having so much less practice than other teams, so just you wait till they can practice as much as usual again. Riot does realize almost 50% of their game viewership and support come from T1 fan right? I and many other of my friends and coworkers still watch league but have stopped playing, we also buy T1 mech. If riot want to kill their game, just continue this
I can see why they priced ahri at 500 so they can fund their league client.
"you gonna rewrite the whole client, that's gonna take months". So what ? They just had months and did nothing.
That's not complicated, you just gotta hier some real programmers, not just designers, animators and so on, and you'd be surprised to see that it would actually take a small team to do it and even costing not so much
