OMG ... hysterical. 😂 As an Fe living with two lead Fi’s, this was SO accurate. In their minds people are all good or all bad, and these judgments feel so arbitrary to me. Fe seems to process people more multi-dimensionally: People are all combinations of good and bad. I don’t think one way of relating is better than the other, but my Fi’s seem to struggle inordinately more with relationships. The Fe isn’t lying about liking people - we just like their good qualities and put the rest in perspective since everyone is annoying or imperfect on some level. This was so fun to watch!

    • @RockySmithsen
      @RockySmithsen 3 роки тому +27

I think it is less about the good vs bad and more about purely whether you can stand being around them or not. There are some people who I know are mostly good people but I still hate them, and there are others who I know are evil that I can't help but love. I know it's dumb, but my Fi just can't seem to let it go.
I used to think lead Fe's were soulless psychopaths for being able to act out whichever emotion was needed each moment, but I am starting to understand them more now.

@@RockySmithsen This is really interesting. What you say resonates with my experience with Fi-doms. I’m not sure whether some people just violate their values or have mannerisms that rub them the wrong way, but as an Fe user, I have a hard time figuring out why they so strongly dislike some people, who from my observation just seem to have the baseline level of flaws that we all have. Don’t get me wrong - even Fe’s can hate people, but I find it takes a LOT to move beyond just seeing someone whose flaws are coming out to someone I can’t stand. Anyway, good convo!! TFS!

As a dom Fi user this is relatable in that I get quick/strong emotional impressions. It's true that I am quick to hate, but when I use the word "hate" I am referring to having a strong INTERNAL emotional reaction to a behavior I have observed about that person - but at the same time I am aware that it is just my feelings - meaning that same person could come up to me, have a good conversation and we could walk out the best of friends. Hate / Love as not being that different ring true for me.
There's a lot of people I hate but there is nobody I've ever run across who I would fight them/cause conflict/do them wrong in any way and I don't relate with what Dave/Shan are saying where anyone who LIKES the person I hate is an enemy now/vise versa. I still listen to people I hate. I still give them opportunities, respect and tolerance. BUT I STILL HAVE A STRONG DISLIKING TOWARDS THEM. Those aren't mutually exclusive.
If FE is looking at the spectrum of I see good/bad qualities of a person.
Fi is: I am looking at moment to moment, day-to-day interaction DEEPLY and so open to change as I get to know you better and because I cannot know deeply what I do not know-- I think I learned from an early age to understand that "hatred feeling" is actually signifying to me: unknown/unfamiliar rather than "enemy"

For me its a little different. My Ti just writes some people off as "Stupid" and calls it a day, but I'm still a polite person naturally, so I politely say good morning to them, and just kind of treat them as if they live in a different dimension until I have to interact with them. You like/dislike a few things about a person, but pleasantries exist so I don't mind that much. Saying good morning to someone you don't like doesn't mean you still like them. Then again, I'm not tied to my personal feelings, so..

I agree, why are they creating an 'us and them' situation. It's feeding into a duality, where there is none? Dave and Shan are probably hated by most of their neighbors too for some other half-witted reason, so by feeding into a duality they make this hatred more real and make their neighbors hate them more. By treating their neighbors that way, they are showing this is how they want to be treated in return. What boggles my mind is when they imply Fe is saying 'love everyone'. No you don't have to ACTUALLY love everyone the same way you love a spouse or parent, just love in a way that recognises you are no different or better than the other. The thing you hate about the other person is probably something you unconsciously hate within yourself. There are no enemies in that regard.

      @AK-jt7kh 3 роки тому +2

@@beehive3275 I mean, they pointed that out in their video when they said that it’s the Te inefficiency that bothers them. So it’s not like they don’t look at where they are at fault.
But see, this is a difference between whether you believe you have the right to have feelings regardless of qualifications. You, here, are essentially disqualifying feelings by saying that if there are reasons that suggest you shouldn’t feel some way - then you shouldn’t.
I’m willing to bet that you don’t actually believe that though because that would basically mean not respecting a person’s right to emotionally respond to stimuli - which just doesn’t make sense.
So if we dig a little deeper, I think what you’re really saying is that these people, if they can’t be flexible with their feelings and change them at will, should refrain from saying disparaging things about their neighbors. They should at least control their behavior to stop the spread of negativity.
To a degree you’re probably right about that and I’m sure Dave & Shan don’t go to the FF household at the end of the street and rail on them to their faces...but keep in mind what the theme of this channel is. We’re hear to explore the cognitive functions and the way that they result in different behavioral responses in humans. So it isn’t like the anecdote about the neighbors is unrelated to the topics they’re trying to teach.
The thing about Fi is that I do understand much better now where Fi people are coming from. I have lead Ti - and I can’t just “change” my beliefs. Growing up, people told me I should say I’m agnostic instead of atheist because it makes people uncomfortable. But the truth is - growing up - I flatly did not believe in god AT ALL. There was not a shred of belief in my mind that god might exist. So what people were really telling me is that I should sacrifice my values and morals, and lie, even though it makes me feel about about myself, just to spare other people an unpleasant fact.
Now, emotionally, I’m flexible. I don’t really think of my emotions as being “real” or being a significant part of me, so it doesn’t mean that much to me to shift them around and see various perspectives in an effort to better the experience of others. But I can’t do the same thing with what I believe is the truth. Truth is truth.
You probably have an inflexible aspect of your personality. So to better understand why these things are the way they are, try to find where you’re inflexible - and realize that the degree to which you will stay in that sinking shop surpasses reasonable decision making.

Like I don’t know how to be friends with someone who does things I* find immoral or “bad”. I lack the nuance needed to appreciate all their other positive attributes while knowing this immoral thing about them 😬 even when it’s none of my business.

Okay I don’t have Fi... not INTJ. Definitely INFJ. I don’t like being friends with neighbors (I’ll even go out of my way to hide or avoid them if I can, like drive around the block until they go inside, or pretend I’m not home... nothing makes me cringe more than catching a neighbor in the hall or elevator or getting out of my car at the same time they do... 🙄 it’s like, ah man, now I got to people) but I don’t hate them or regard them as enemies... I don’t ruthlessly dislike or like people, I just regard them as: that’s how neighbors are 🤷🏻‍♀️ .
My sister, on the other hand (ESFP) does that. We will be eating at a restaurant and she’ll just hate the waitress. I’ll ask, “What did she do to you!? She’s just doing her job!” And my sister will say, “I just don’t like her. She gave me a dirty look.” 😆 And then for the whole visit she’s commenting on all the reasons why she hates the waitress or she’s bad at her job.
My mom is an ESFJ and she picks up people and houses them like stray cats. She’s in everyone’s business around the block and knows all the juicy info. The only neighbor she hates is probably the Fi-user who told her to back off. 😂
Also, if I walked into someone’s house I’d be checking out the things that “don’t make sense” like the shoddy job of your table or if the house is organized or designed in a slapdash way. I might even lose a little respect for the house with the things or people in it that “don’t make sense”.

Then you spoke the key « bc it’s not our identities » Ahh there it is. I’m thinking that that’s why I got so uncomfortable. I mean you do you, but if you expect me to hate someone just because you hate them, I would rather go and befriend the person you hate than just follow along for something as illogical than that.
Have to admit tho, that I can't really judge because I do not know what its like to be like that, I do not think I have ever hated anyone in my life. Of course, there are people that annoy me, specially if they tell me what to do and or believe without giving a good reason. Dang, I thought the differing cognitive functions would be enough for them to constantly butt heads and then trying to control/overthrow each others’ points of view could eventually lead to a lot of anger, but I now feel like the ENTJ is gonna be easier to aggravate than the ENTP 😭😂 aaaagh

One of them can be guilt, and guilt can easily cloud one's judgement. The ENTP could have done something he greatly regrets (if it ended in heavily hurting both physically and emotionally someone the ENTP appreciated) which heavily changed the ENTP driven by guilt and the ENTJ could have several qualities that remind him of his past self...
Another one, could be directly linked to emotional harmony, the ENTP could be convinced in some way that the ENTJ is to some detriment to society and if the ENTJ refuses to give a compelling logical argument to his behavior can create a deep animosity between the two.
Now, not having strong emotions, doesn't mean ENTPs are good, that depends on the person. So another one could be that the ENTP is psychopathic or sociopathic, but personally I am sick of that trope, of the mentally disturbed antagonist, unless it is done with nuance. I've seen Fe & Ti users hating people for acting the 'wrong' way, even if there is nothing wrong with that 'wrong' way of acting, if you know what I mean, so it's not just Fi users that hate irrationally.

I could dislike a person, but if my friend likes that person, I’ll try to adapt to their stance just because I feel like we have to like the same people to be friends. Which isn’t true at all; I’m just terrible at handling any kind of disagreement like that! So I’ll try to adjust my views in the moment, and then go home and take myself apart mentally because I feel like a fraud sometimes when I appeal to false common ground with other people. And meanwhile, there are Fe people who don’t make this such a big deal, and just naturally see the best in people and try to befriend them all and don’t freak out about how they stand with every. single. human. being. And how to communicate those stances and levels to their close friends, if at all. 😭😂

I don't get the Fi/Te's. I don't want to hate anyone. That's an awful feeling. Even people who I don't particularly like, I don't wanna have any strong negative feelings towards them. Positive indifference is a good minimum. I think I can count the number of people I met in my life, who I genuinely hate, on one hand. And even with those people, that's my personal problem. I wouldn't dislike another person just for being friends with someone I hate.
And Fe doesn't love as much as Fi? I don't believe that. Sure, your love is intense. Absolutely! But the Fe's feelings can be just be as intense. Only difference is that Fi is more attentive towards the emotion. That's the same thing as saying Te wouldn't be able to understand logic. Any Te user can (and often does!) understand shit as well as Ti. But your attention isn't directed at the detailed understanding the way Ti is. Doesn't mean Te is stupid or Fe feelings are less legit.

Then when people comment on the fact that they like the person that makes you feel this way, your Fi says “you also think I am inadequate” and then shuts them out too. And then I wonder if you would react to someone throwing this idea out (totally without judgement btw-we all do this at some point to some extent😂) negatively because it plays back into a fear of other people judging you. I have typed myself as an INFP, and I would say the best way you can help those young Fi users is to just treat them nicely, don’t be too harsh or critical on them even when you think you are right. You probably are right, and at the end of the day despite whatever happens we will probably come to realize that you are right. BUT we won’t accept it if we haven’t managed our feelings yet.
If the Fi user wants to do something, but they don’t know how, and they come to you for help, but you think it’s illogical to do it, just be careful of how you start to convince them that they are wrong. They may feel very strongly about their decision, and if you immediately give them logical reasoning for why that decision is wrong, they may get very upset at you at that moment.
Handle the feelings first, make sure you aren’t coming off as aggressive, ask them why they came to that decision. Then acknowledge how they feel, tell them that their feelings are valid, even if you think it’s not, because otherwise they may feel betrayed. Asking why they feel a certain way can help them process through their feelings better, and the quicker they do that, the quicker they can see your reasoning.
Then once they know you are on their side, you can then tell them why they are wrong, although be gentle about it. You could also try leading them to see your reasoning by using some creative questioning. Instead of giving them a statement or a fact, which they don’t have to process and can ignore, rephrase what you want to say with a question so that way they will have to process it in order to answer it.
TL;DR: Strong Fi feelings are easily triggered, please handle with care. Address the feelings first before you address the logic. Once Fi user sees that you care about how they feel and that you are not the enemy, they will open up to what you are thinking.

@@farrex0 I feel like high Fe users cater themselves to the room with such ease, whereas Fi’s would always be looking out for information that connects to their values and if they can’t find it they’d feel like they’re in the presence of opposing / uninteresting ideals and therefore leave or create resistance. So it looks out for authenticity I reckon, which Fe could potentially have too but doesn’t really put at full exposure / doesn’t feel is as necessary as harmony?

I can't imagine what would happen if I actually had a conversation and gave him her phone nr. I'd never go that far tho, I'm happy with just having inferior Fe.

I think demon Fe will relate to a lot of this, too, but without the vitriol. I have no feelings about my neighbors other than relief that they only contact us when it seems like our house might be on fire. Even when people insist on play-blasting at me I rarely hate them. I just avoid them out of self-preservation.

Interesting... I’m an INFP and I don’t relate at all to the ‘don’t speak to our enemies’ but I relate 1000% to ‘the people in the blue house are dead to me because of their annoying shit’. I’m curious how other Fi saviors relate to this whole thing?
Personally, I don’t have the energy to form strong opinions about most people but if you rub against my Fi that’ll change fast (and that opinion will be stronnnng). HOWEVER I don’t expect anyone else to share my opinion... and I am very leery of ‘loyalty’. I click with people whose values align pretty well with mine (and moreso if they don’t hold values which cause friction with mine), and I may have no use for f@ckfactory (awesome nickname btw!) but if you like them that’s your thing. I will probably make some inferences about your values based on you liking a person that I’ve decided against, but if I can determine that the values you connect with them on are not a deal-breaker between you and me, then I’m happy for you to like them, on your own time, just don’t expect me to change MY opinion of them.
I’ve always felt like it’s the Fe’s who want us to all share a common judgement - ‘that person is a jerk’. Cancel culture feels Fe to me (much like fad culture, let’s all decide that person/thing is terrible/great because other people say so, without taking the time and energy to determine our own personal feelings on the matter’). I think of Fi more as ‘~I~ think that person is a jerk and won’t partake of them any more’ or ‘I refuse to go to the neighborhood party if they will be there’ (LOL, as if I’d ever go to a neighborhood party)... I hold no expectation that YOU will share my opinion, in fact I EXPECT you to form your own opinion and also to respect my personal decision about that person.
Likewise, if I came to your house and for whatever reason I did like f@factory, I am not going to pretend to dislike them and/or bash or cancel them because of your feelings toward them. I will refrain from defending them even if I like them to be polite (because AFAIC it’s between you and them) and probably just avoid them as a topic of conversation.
I thought this was more of an Fe thing, or maybe Demon Fx... but I see other INFPs in the comments who seem to relate to it. The more I think about it I did do this when I was young, but it caused me a LOT of cognitive dissonance and noticing it has actually helped me to be more true to my Fi over the decades.

This is a very mature thing to say (regardlesse of type) and even tho I'm fe, I also really appreciate it when others also dislike cancel culture (glad I'm not alone lol).
I feel like a lot of it is due to ne tbh, we are all naturally aware of people different points of views and different perspectives and therefore also of our own subjective expirience as human being. So we can naturally see someone with a different expirience to ours and naturally accept that kind of. If that makes sense.

@@cdcs_edits 11 months later (thanks to UA-cam tracking this), I'm trying to process it again.
I guess they don't like the other person's identity, which conflicts with their own values (Fi) or think they're dumb (Te) and so don't like the person. For me to dislike someone, I would not like the person's way of dealing with others - thinking they're anti-social (Fe) or their disregarding of my ideas (Ti) and then dislike them.
I guess I get the vid a bit better now, but the actual content could have been a lot clearer and less of a cross between 'choose your own adventure' and connect-the-dots. That is, more sensory. And I'm an intuitive dom, for the record.

    Idea to think about:
Since you find association between the decider functions and people as opposed to things, I propose making your microphone analogy people-oriented instead. As a potential Savior Ti type individual, I would get a lot more passionate (I think) about a person being or speaking or arguing inefficiently than an object being inefficient.

I can't believe they really think like this, it comes across as immature to me in the way they presented it because there are no established reasons for them to go as far as "hating" these people. Although high Te users can have a pretty shallow Fi, they will usually give little direct importance to Fi unless it is directly attacked, and certainly not "hate" someone for such ridiculous reasons, although they absolutely can lack in appreciation. So they're just being excessive, which seems to mislead a lot of people in the comment section into thinking it is funny to lend themselves to petty passions.
As for your question, hatred, if it really is, presupposes a form of conflict. So it makes sense to me that one would see a friend with an enemy as a form of treason. I don't really think it is an Fi/Fe thing either... I've seen quite a few Fe users demonstrated forms of dislike (never really hatred, people don't hate in real life unless highly immature) to the extent of showing forms of disrespect to a friend's association to such and such. I think a lot of people delude themselves in these comments.

I'm not sure if I have Fi, but for me I can say that maybe it's like a form of "betrayal" for Fi. But it depends on the level of the hatred. There's the dislike and there's the hate. For ex. A hurt an Fi user badly and saw that her best friend is friendly with A. This Fi user might thinks that the best friend doesn't actually likes them. For me myself I tried to understand that everyone can be friends with anybody. If it's people whom I hold dearly, I will tell them about A so that they can be cautious of. If they want to be friends with them, then I'm okay although I would be hurt a little. However, if we're not that close, I wouldn't be hurt if they're friendly to that person and woulnd't tell them about A's deeds. What I cannot understand are the really dramatic people who are like the regeneration of the "mean girls".

@@_laifishardisntit_1379 Ok, this case is understandable. Even a Fe user would feel betrayed if their best friend is too friendly with someone who made awfull things to them. But there are some people that hate someone without any good reason and expect their friends to share the same irrational feeling. That's what I don't understand.
