- This video is going to show how to create a cloudscape for Unreal Engine 4 using a skyrig that we're going to make in Houdini, then convert it to a mesh and use it as a spawn surface in Unreal. We're also going to look at how to create some basic textures for this effect.

Hey instead of using a layer and screen blending to compensate for the dark fringes, just use levels on your cloud layer and adjust the black output (the very bottom slider in levels) until you get the color you want for the fringes.
I just installed Houdini apprentice and am very interested in procedural clouds. Thank you very much for one of the best tutorials on the net.
This is such a great approach (mesh spawning particles) that I never thought of using Maya.
Great technique! And really great tutorial - on the point, smooth!
Damnnnnnnnnnn you broke three of my learning of my learning barriers in one video. Big thanks.
This is actually AMAZING!!! Thank you. Dont stop here, keep those tuts coming in :D
Would love to see a updated version of this!!! so cool.
Super interesting! Andreas is a tremendous teacher ( I just finished his course "vfx for games" at pluralsight)
Pro tip: watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Aaron Maximus Definitely, been using flixzone for months myself =)
@Aaron Maximus yup, have been watching on Flixzone for since november myself :)
Great video. Thanks!~
GREAT
very nice
wow! thanks
great
Is that possible to create clouds like this on real-time but using 3d texture + ray marching for more volumetric look and something like subsurface scattering on material of clouds? I don't know how to do it, I just have an idea. Thanks for tutorial!
谢谢
I don’t have Houdini or any software atm and I’m doing a lot of research to kind of wrap my head around which software(s) would best suit my needs and it seems Houdini and unreal engine are the two main ones. Does anyone know if importing with the plugin data smith if it’ll be easier or even doable?
so when I make my texture the particle system is including the whole sub uv box so Im getting a grey box behind my cloud, Whats the fix?
Unreal Engine 4.22 and above throws a particle system error - "NO ASYNC TICK". Please help!
same problem for me. NO ASYNC TICK error in particle system editor. particles are not appeared in viewport.
same problem in 2022
music intro;
It didn't work. When the FX_CloudScape_01 was opened, the settings were different from the video.
why make a cloudscape non procedurally in a procedural node based tool like Houdini and take it to Unreal when Unreal has a procedural and dynamic weather system?
because... Houdini!!!
Because UE's volumetric are pretty bad for anything but game quality. If you wanted very realistic clouds or even a better art directed version, you would do it this way. As far as I know outside of using something like FluidNinja you can do a true volumetric fog with noise in UE....as far as I know.
out of date tut
why ?
because does not work with raytracing for example
