That flywheel will come off on my 144 I had to go buy some m7 bolts about 2 inches long and used a 3 bolt puller, a chip will work on there that’s what’s on mine, but had to remove the points box and condenser, glad to see someone working on these saws just wish I didn’t have to learn on my own a few months ago lol cheers
Couldnt tell from the vid but your supposed to preload those hand held impact drivers. Been using them on old bikes and skidoos for 100 years lol Also great for Japanese philips. Cheers, Jon
Hey Tinman, i built a tool for Dolmars. Took a 10mm Steelplate and drilled 3 Holes in it, which fit to the screws in the Flywheel. Then i took 12.9 strengh M5 screws i think they were and tightened them . So the Plate pushes on the Crank. Hit the Plate with a Steelhammer and the Wheel comes off. Did that on my 120 , 133 super and 143 to replace Crankseals. Worked fine.Flyeheelnut gets 30Nm . Good Luck 👍,
Tinman, have restored a strunk 3-19 and most recently an echo cs302. The info shared by you on the channel has showed me what to look for and saved me money also. To great tools with my new hobby. Can’t wait to see next videos, 🙏 🙏
Same design as a 120S. Bosch flywheel had Bosch ignition under it. SEM flywheel had SEM ignition. I was able to get Sem from Chainsawr used.Heard some used the Nova kit for more reliability. Old Husqvarna and Stihl saws used the same ignition. If you go used just make sure your ignition matches the flywheel. The fan should mount on either. Back up the crank with a nut. They are delicate.
Man I like those ole Sachs Dolmars. The 153 is a “holy grail saw” right behind the SD166. That saw looks pretty amazing. Paint and decals look great, piston looks great, I’ve heard they had an ignition issue which in this case prolly preserved it by not being used. Do the ignition chip thing and I bet it will fun like a champ. I hope you get it running without having to replace crank seals and such. Good luck. Oh yeah, to all the Canadian Truckers, “Keep on Trucking”. Your protest is Nobel and you should be “allowed to chose” God bless!
I have a 153 that I just happened to be working on. Unlike other saws, you need to give it a stronger pull to get a spark. I am not saying you don't have a spark problem, but the way you are pulling wouldn't give a spark on my 153 either. I would try that again first. If you need to pull the magneto, a 3/16 flat bar with the 3 bolts preloaded, and you hammer gently in the middle, not too hard because the hollow end of the shaft will chip.
That is a killer saw! I love that you take the time to show the reality of saw building. Whenever I have a flywheel that won't budge, the one thing that always works is time, haha. I'll leave the saw on its side, flywheel up and squirt it whenever i pass by followed by medium-light taps with a light hammer. It might take a couple of days. Another thing i noticed, i think your puller would have a more positive purchase if you could flip the recoil cup upside-down. I sure you have it sorted by now though, and i'm just practicing my typing skills. Haha. Cheers!!
Thoroughly entertaining video TM, really enjoyed it. I’ve had an old homelite tophandle on my healing shelf so long I’m surprised it’s not brand new by now. I’m a huge fan of Dolmars in general so it’s really cool to see someone giving them some love (and flame grilling them). Have a great day man, Al
Hey Tinman it must have been a saw mechanic that said patience is a virtue. Sometimes its tempting to use an even bigger hammer but not always wise. Thanks for the vid.
these are easy to get off,get a 10mm steel plate ,drill 3 holes in it ,to match the three holes in the flywheel, put on top with 3 bolts and screw down, it will ping off, easy. i have 6 dolmar 153 saws and lots of others.
I am glad you stopped! Heating up the flywheel too much is like an oven and if the ignition wasn't bad it will be if heated too much. Same goes for the crank seal. The starter cup is definitely not made to be pulled against. I believe the Stihl 045/056 puller will work on this saw, part # 1107-890-4500 I paid $30.49 for mine from Stihl. (If you would like the measurements off that tool I can email them to you) Or fab a similar tool. Stihl even sells an end cap that goes onto the crank to help protect it from the puller on some saws. Slow and steady with the proper tools wins the race, like most things in life.
Tinman, I enjoyed the video, and I know that at least one other person mentioned how to increase the effectiveness of the impact tool. What I do, is after I have the impact driver properly positioned, I apply as much preload as I can in the direction I want the screw or nut to turn. Unfortunately, I don't have a Sachs Dolmar, and I would like to get my hands on one someday.
100cc gets into beast of a saw range. That's big powerhead. The only thing I've ever ran in that size range was an 084 when I worked for the US Park Service in the late 90's. In that day it was what we had for big wood.
Be careful with the heat on that, same flywheel om my 045. Ended up destroying it and the crankshaft. got lucky and found it all on Ebay. Hard to find and not cheap.
Hey Tinman, I am a new subscriber and I'm excited to see how this project turns out. I have inherited two Sachs Dolmar saws, a 120 and a 123. Both were great saws, but I believe the ignition coils are out on both, no spark at all. I really want to get them going again and I hope I can learn how.
I have the Sachs Dolmar 123 I bought in 1986. It has been a good saw. Still use it to this day. I think 1986 was the first year for the 123, 133, and the 143. Not sure about the 153 though. It's hard to find parts for them. Enjoyed the video.
You have to turn the impact driver fully in the direction you want the fastner to go then hit it it don't work unless the tool is preloaded so if your trying to loosen turn fully anticlockwise and hold it then hit it
I have worked on this style saw many times. Remove flywheel nut. Then use a center punch that fits into the end of crankshaft. Then give the punch a good firm hit with a hammer. This may take several blows. The flywheel will always come loose. simple and works all the time.
That Bosch FW uses the same puller as a Stihl 045. Get a 3 screw steering wheel puller & three bolts, they could be either M8 or M10 thread. The Stihl tool is too precious at over $60... It will sound like a shotgun when it pops loose!
Nice patience! Yeah I got her off with a 3 long screw puller… put her back on… no spark… tried again and darn thing sheared the fly wheel crank shaft tip right off… my patience was you might say a little weathered on the second pull
This samething I look forward to. I heard of people putting ignition chips in but never seen it. I have one I would like to try it on. So times the plastic come off the wire that stop them from running. Look forward to the answer.
they are swines like some husky l65 . a puller pulled the bolts right out of the flywheel on a similar dolmar i did ended up drilling and tapping her out to 8mm and that did the job . the sig type chips do fit and do work bud ;o)
Definitely recommend a steering wheel puller for that flywheel dealio, if it won't come off with one of those and some heat then it just won't come off
It’s always tough for me to let go of things. Till Ive given them away and put a smile on a guys face. Then I wonder why I kept it around for so many years😅 Thanks Nate and Tinman! Now we can all enjoy it😃
If you have a stripped out screw you can't get out use a graver and a hammer. I have used this method many times when an easy out doesn't work. Try that before drilling and tapping it's just way easier.
Awesome content, may you do an review of husqvarna ff66 oldschool yugoslavian saw,it runs better than most of the new ones and will probally hold on for longer.
Yo Tinman, I've used one of those Oregon ignition chips on a couple of Homelites now, but it always winds up reversing the on/off switch. I'm not an electrical guy, so I'm a bit baffled. Any suggestions?
Hey tinman would it be possible to get longer screws, and use the screws as the puller to push off of the flywheel? Plus you can give the crankshaft a tap with a punch when you have pressure on the screws?
I never use a sparkplug to test spark ,test spark with a tester that way you don't have to hold it and pull at the same time?. then disconnect switch they can be faulty? then check wire? then on fly wheel use 3 bolt puller fingered pullers always seem to slip off.it will come off with a bang. . Good Luck!!!
Hey Tinman not sure if you're still working on that flywheel but just saw a video on "Steve's small engine saloon " he used a air chisel to very easily remove a tough flywheel. Check out the video. Good luck.
Thats different tinman!..by any chance is there threaded m6 holes in that flywheel, and turn a couple bolts in ..i know you'd be going in blind but you never know... especially on those old saw, well designed ..
Not me, I've never started any fires in my shop🤥 also never had it look like a scene from Cheech and Chong when I came out the door for fresh air😂 I'd say to go check out Steves small engine saloon, for the video he uploaded today with the air hammer but I already know you did👍
Tinman, where's the vid of you finally getting the heavy flywheel off of this thing? I've got a 120 Super with same exact issue, can't get this b**** off, need to see WTH you did to get it off!! Dying over here. Have tried multiple pullers.
In my Sachs dolmar 120 I have to give a strong pull to get Spark but on my Sachs dolmar 114 just a little pull givs spark!!! IT is correct guys?have good weekend to all of you
Tinman I took my 1982 285cd to the shop they said they couldn't get fule lines and a carb kit for it do you know of any place I can find the parts I'm sure there is something out there maybe you can point me in the right direction ill just fix it myself now I know what I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏
In the saw shop we always had the spray bomb type fire extinguisher clear fluid not so messy My riding mower backfired one day while l was repairing it caught fire 🔥 and l used a powder extinguisher what a mess
I just had another war with my jonsered 630 flywheel last night maybe got a touch aggressive but I did win. Last time I tried I rigged up a puller and all that would happen is my puller would bend. Ended up just hitting the end of the crank with a punch until it come loose( Probly not the right way to do it but I tried everything
Just take your time, use same Tool that is Design for Stihl 045, 056. I got one from Ebay at last to do the Job. Please use good tool or you end up not doing the job.

Nice to see you doing a real video. Which is always what you do thanks
I am really looking forward to seeing the coil under that cover.

There is a way to replace the capacitor on the SEM module with a chip, also.

Hey Tinman it must have been a saw mechanic that said patience is a virtue. Sometimes its tempting to use an even bigger hammer but not always wise. Thanks for the vid.
You call it a healing shelf, I like to let it think about what its done when they are being naughty.

Finger test most often works better than spark test, a bit painful though, if you pull too hard ;-)
Be careful with the heat on that, same flywheel om my 045. Ended up destroying it and the crankshaft. got lucky and found it all on Ebay. Hard to find and not cheap.
I love my super long screwdrivers for torquing screws out, but that thing is cool
very good saws one of the oldestsaw companies
I wish I had your phone number.... been there with that flywheel. Broke the first three threads in the crank. So much easier to talk

Thermal shock it. Extream cold then heat while maintaining pressure on it. That should get it off. Bsafe awesome content
Cant wait to see this monster run.
Neat stuff! The heat and quench technique may work there👍
Keeping it real my friend love it 😀
Thanks for what you're doing. I just came over from Buckin's and subscribed
Welcome!!

That Bosch FW uses the same puller as a Stihl 045. Get a 3 screw steering wheel puller & three bolts, they could be either M8 or M10 thread. The Stihl tool is too precious at over $60...
It will sound like a shotgun when it pops loose!
If you've never had a little fire, you're doing it wrong.
Straight alcohol blended with trans fluid creeps fantastically. It does take time and multiple applications but it really works.
Never seen that style of setup before on a power saw
Nice patience! Yeah I got her off with a 3 long screw puller… put her back on… no spark… tried again and darn thing sheared the fly wheel crank shaft tip right off… my patience was you might say a little weathered on the second pull

They have done these flywheels for a long time in the big ones like this. The oldest saw I have is from the 60s it even has the same starter paws
they are swines like some husky l65 . a puller pulled the bolts right out of the flywheel on a similar dolmar i did ended up drilling and tapping her out to 8mm and that did the job . the sig type chips do fit and do work bud ;o)

Go check out Steves small engine saloon. He put out a video today on removing a stuck clutch. Seems like it should work for flywheels aswell!

That Dolmar is different for sure, can you drill a small hole down the opposite side of the key to get penetrating oil down the other side?
