Discord light mode was decent at one point, it had a nice area seperation, as the chat was white background, but the server and channel selection and the member list was the same color as dark mode. Then discord was like "only a fraction of a percent use light mode, so lets change it", changing the entire thing into a flashbang. That was the day me, the last light mode user, switched to dark mode for discord

I used to be the technical lead for a niche blog and I added both a light and a dark mode, the dark mode was a dark grey, somewhere in the #333 range and the text was a light gray somewhere in the #aaa range, accent color orange. it was so much more readable than either a pure black&white dark or light mode, just because the contrast was *lower*
Without dark mode, I don't think I could survive my migraines. I think that I once in a while will use some websites in light mode just bc the dark mode doesn't work very well with the site but those sites are typically darker in background anyway

Hi, Graphic Designer here, the manga/book reading vs screen reading that Garnt mentioned was a horrible comparison, when you hold a piece of paper, doesn't matter how white the paper is, it's not even close to the amount of light you phone, TV and tablet shoot to your eyes. Dark mode it's better for your eyes cause the color black works as a way to balance white light rays (you can even see this in car windows with the black stuff in the borders), but must importantly *lower your DAMN screen brightness,* search any tutorial on YT for any screen, the general brightness levels are most of the reason of *"Why any screen can fuck your eyes over?"*
Hey, I'm a full on light mode users (For Discord I use the grey sidebar and the rest is white). But I always have the lights on in my room and I don't use my phone in bed at all. So I also never get dazzled by the light mode. I tried dark mode and I can't tell you why, but staring on it for too long, generally makes me depressed. One good argument for light mode is that it helps with astigmatism - when your eyes are more out of focus e.g. horizontally than vertically. I still use dark mode, but it really makes it harder to read text.
Dark Reader extension is my best friend when it comes to looking at websites on my computer. F.lux also helps with eye strain if you're forced to look at something in lightmode.

I find that my eyes hurt more when im focusing at small,white text on a sea of a dark/black background. people did not complain about it back then, but now dark mode is being introduced now all of a sudden, gremlins who cant keep their hands off their phones while on the bed and keeping the lights on while using their PC's are dominating the entire discussion and hails Dark mode like its the second coming of christ, when in fact its not about the UI, but their shitty lifestyle is what makes them prefer Dark mode.

There has been a proven connection with screen light reducing melatonin levels at night which is what helps you go to sleep because it mimics in a way the sun light. That is why some reccomend to not go near any screen for an hour before bed, so you sleep more smoothly. However if we take this the opposite way in the morning when you want to actually wake up and want the melatonin levels reduced the light from your phone's screen would help. Maybe there is a basis here to what garnt is saying!

The issue with light mode is that nearly every default light mode is blast white. Most good light themes use a slightly off white.

It’s because garnt is near sighted. Light mode dilates you’re eyes and sharpens you’re vision for the same reason as the pinhole trick.

Specially with OLED displays, dark mode reduces power consumption by a lot so battery life gets better
The battery life increases, but not by much.
+ + It requires "pure" black. Even on UA-cam, the dark theme is not made up of "pure" black.

I prefer auto, Light mode looks nicer during daytime, especially if you are outside, Dark mode is more comfortable during the night and in the evening

Why would light mode be a good idea in the dark? 🤨 Do you want to burn your eyes in the light? Some people's eyes can't handle bright light.
Literally none of them were defending light mode in the dark. Just light mode in general.
You just turn the brightness down. When it’s all the way down it’s super dim

The worst mode is the one in between the gray mode especially in UA-cam.
If i have light mode, im able to know when im in incognito mode or not
Just use the Tor browser at that point and you are always on incognito mode whether you want it or not
this made me convert completely to dark mode
Discord Light Mode on mobile is weird because half of the app is still dark mode
