- Changed the strat a little compared to the previous run. Lots more hits traded this time but that was by design (somewhat). I noticed that I rarely lose any big openings when I get hit by an attack so I went for riskier attacks during openings to get more damage in. Also dropped Slugger in favor of Focus since this matchup relies heavily on superpounds and charged aerial attacks and the faster charge would allow me to get back in the offense more easily after I get hit as well.
TA rules: mhw.wiki-db.co... (tl;dr no mantles, no cats, no traps, no flinch shot into wall, no environmental damage/traps etc.)

It's all about positioning. You're probably not bad with the hammer, you just have to read where the monster's parts end up. The next time you play, watch when a monster does an attack, then when it positions itself right after/during an attack. A good monster to practice on is Glavenus, when it does its tail slam attack, position yourself half way between the tip of its tail to the body, right after it repositions, its head will be presented for a perfect head shot. This can be used on every monster, you just need to know to watch.
This is important for everyone, but it changes who are the good Hammer and Greatsword players and who are the bad.
@@Yarsig thank you for the tip. Coming into the game as a Souls player and have been exclusively using LS, I find attacking certain body parts with heavy weapons rather hard since body parts doesnt matter much in Souls, and LS also kinda negates the importance of positioning.

AT Velkhana and the airborne skill are a perfect match.
I absolutely adore the music choice
It’s an excellent fight. Between the two, I would say Nergigante was the tougher arch; the speed at which it did that slam kept you on your toes, whereas Velkhana makes so many ledges that air attacks keep hitting it easily.

This is true solo play not even using a palico. I’m sure it speeds it up not using a palico so Velkhana stays on you the entire time, well done

i dont hunt in the elder's recess enough to use hammer for this fight, too many spots of hill=no slide unless im going up it(???) and most of the times i get hit are cause of that bs XD
1 Slugger point...is that just cause u had room or because 1 point actually does something beneficial?
Also, didn't expect to see Focus on there but as a fellow hammer bro I have noticed that AT Velkhana moves its head really fast and thought Focus might actually be worth it
Had the spare slots tho really, slugger doesn't do much in this fight imo, it just frontloads your KOs a little at best.

Have you tried using the new gamma set to put frostcraft on hammer? I tried it at a friend's suggestion and the jump in attack power is very large. How often frostcraft stays active definitely depends on your attack frequency but even without frostcraft your attack power is almost the same as the current fatalis set.
nah its not, u dont have agitator secret and not as many slots for the optimal dmg decos. theres no way frostcraft gives u back the damage. Also when u see him play he does not really sheath his hammer so he wont get frostcraft back which also makes his damage output smaller.
Dont get me wrong the gamma set looks dope for crit draw or players with that playstyle but it just wont give u the damage that fatalis set gives u

my solo time as casual player was 18 min with a extreme defensive set

My wife always gave me crap about that hahah. I tell her, maybe he is flattening the impact surface so it is no longer rounded? You wouldn't want your blows to deflect. And she always asks, then why is he rubbing the stone on the handle? =_=
I switched to the guild axe hammer just to stop hearing that everytime I play with it haha

My only disappointment is the sudden lack of variation in armor sets with Fatalis now in the mix, but what can you say? There is a set that is clearly the best

whats the trick for getting jumps from such tiny slides? you getting jumps from them so flawlessly
The ice patches left behind by Velkhana's attacks let you slide with hammer while charging it
so what I’ve gathered from watching this is, hehe hammer go brrrr
You should show layered armor too, just a suggestion
How do you practice sliding in the elders recess?
You play sliding hammer in every hunt you do till your good at it lol. Time spent doing something in this game makes you better at it. Learn the quing animation for when you start sliding you can even slide down certain angles if you run around with charge on hammer you will find them.

Understanding the Fight is certainly the Core Part, but some Weapons have just more Options, better interactions, small Characteristics who come in Play perfectly.
Ig can jump over basicly everything and can evade out of his Attacks easily to avoid the falling Ice.
And its not relying on Stamina to do Stuff.
Lance as an example has Problems closing distance whit the beam clocking it further away and the Walls standing in the Way.
I'd be lucky to beat the normal one in twice that time... lol.
