lol, I remember when I was a kid, I used to train like hundreds of soldiers and just select them as a whole and have them attack the enemies.

One of my most memorable games was fighting a turtling ottoman player as russia, he built like 15 layers of walls, with towers and a massive number of cannons and jannisaries guarding them... and i had muskets ! 😅 so i sent muskets stack after stack to their deaths, destroying his walls 1 after the other with endless numbers of muskets. and i didnt even make a single cannon the whole game. Long story short after around 5000 muskets died the ottoman player surrendered after a heroic defence and was like, man your soldiers never end ! Good times
Extra tip, settlers melee damage is way higher than their ranged. You can easily kill a lone hussar by mobbing your settlers walking towards him so most of them are in melee range and telling them to attack. I have had to do the same thing against artillery with mixed results. They can also more easily kill enemy settlers like that pesky one in the video building the wall.

i remember years ago when i was playing OG Asian Dynasties on Steam, i was playing Japanese vs. an Aztec player when he made a unit i had never seen before. I was so confused how these funny guys with slings were killing my Ashis so handily... until i clicked the enemy unit and noticed it had massive ranged resists. Something in my brain clicked... i had seen something before...
The "Melee" formation. Previously i had never seen the point. Why would I stop my musketeers from using their guns? Even vs. cavalry, they could never catch them anyways, so the melee attack would only be useful defensively. Until my next fight, that is.
It's the last big noob game push. We throw our clods of enemies at each other... but this time i swap to Melee formation. Suddenly those slingers went from "impossible to beat" to "getting shredded like paper"! That's the moment AoE3 clicked and found a place in my heart. Formations are more than how your units stand around, it can completely change certain units' function and matchups.
Yeah it makes a difference when you start to learn formations especially when your enemy has falconets and you need to spread out and minimilise damage.

@@Widgie I always feel like I can’t keep up when someone rushes me or has a forwarding base. How do you defend against that? Do you send out raids to fend them off while you build? For example send longbowmen early if I’m British
Best way is to defend by getting minuteman and micro management of settlers. If you get the chance to raid with cavalry then do so. Try not to sacrifice military units and pick your moment carefully
On formations, the Defensive is great for moving around since they dont change between column to row and vice versa. It's like Napoleonic squares. I actually use the stagger mode with 40 and up because the firing line is wider and more compact so you have less units trying to walk around the sides to get shots and slightly harder to flank if against melee (useless in urban environments and sieges) . Literal Napoleonic Infantry tactics of square to move to firing positions I love it.

Is there a way to set the default military unit posture to Defense. To make it retain positions after attacks. I cant find that option in AOE3DE.

Rise of Nations has that though. All they would have to do is add boxes on the bottom of training building to select starting formation. Might be hard for forts though.

Hey widgie, how do you select separate group of military? I did see often in your vids when you move the bowman and infantry separat. i dont get it how to select these different kind of groups without the mouse??

It's control groups, ctrl + 1 would create a ctrl group under the 1 key. The shift key adds and subtracts units from the ctrl group. Hard to explain here, join my discord server and I can explain easier :)

Hi man, i played aoe2 and aom as a kid but i played it lika a city builder😂, now i am trying to get good at the game i have 50h on aoe3 i can beat hard bot but not hardest is that good or bad for 50h ?

Any tips on how to improve against harder AI?
For some reason it's hard for me to find multiplayer.
Are you playing on the legacy version? I rarely play against the AI so I would suggest applying as much pressure in the earlier game.
For AI they attack outpost immediately, so cover you town in outposts and other defensive structures (it makes them spread out to seize the outpost) and have your units attack from both sides.
What is the best civ in your opinion??

How do you move entire army at once in non definitive edition?
There should be a small button near the minimap which should select all. There's also a hotkey of you check the settings

All depends on what you’re after, it’s a hard one. AOE3 has way more diversity
