Hi. I'd like to know if I can use the same tile adhesive to stick down waterproof membranes onto a concrete floor. And then use that same tile adhesive to also stick the tiles on top of the membrane ? If so, any recommendations on multi purpose tile adhesive ? some adhesives safe for using with impermeable substrates ? I'm unsure what this means ?

Hello and thanks for the question. If the manufacturer of the waterproof membrane suggests that a flexible tile adhesive should be used, then Dunlop CLF-03, Dunlop CF-03 and Dunlop CF-24 may be used, in accordance with instruction. It is important however, to ensure the adhesive has fully set prior to installing tiles to the surface of the membrane.
One suggestion (if in doubt, regarding system compatibility) would be to use the Dunlop Shower Waterproofing kit which is compatible with our adhesives.

What do you mean do not grout any “movement joints”?

      Thank you for your question.
Movement joints are required in any tile installation, to prevent failure and accommodate stresses. They range from wall to floor junctions, abutments such as door lining and intermediate areas, where differing substrates meet such as timber to concrete. At these junctions, a soft joint is required and must not be filled with grout. Soft joints or “movement joints” can be formed by installing a colour matching Dunlop FX-90 Sealant or a pre-formed profile, which are also widely available.

Why do you need to do that when they showed the back of the tile fully covered?

Back buttering is to compensate for curvature in larger tiles. But with all the product used in that deep dish pizza dough, what difference would it make? I better question is how deep and wide are the trowel notches? And, is the thickness overkill/overcost?
