Any metal in your body will mess you up the same. 10 years in the ghetto ER treating tons of gunshot wounds
Absolutely
Though energy transfer and increased surface area makes a huge difference in damage done
@@theblindsniper9130 energy doesn't "transfer"
FMJ is all I use. Train Train ,Train
I carried .45 ball for a couple of years and would have no qualms at all using it again for self defense if I had to, it worked good enough for the GIs! (Damn that sounded fuddy lol)
It was the hand gun, and ammo, carried by the winners of two World Wars.
Any ammo that goes boom is good for self defense as almost every gun fight ends in a single shot. The old saying is "They all fall to the .45 ball" FMJ can end a gun fight in any caliber. The Mob killed with .22 for years. The Military has used FMJ since it's inception. Even cap and ball kill....or wound or Mame etc. With modern ammo, you have many options. Find what works for you and your gun. What is really important is that you have a weapon, you learn how to use it and find the ammo that is reliable and you can afford. The last thing is, pray you never have to use it.
Shoot them in the face and upper chest area and it doesn't really matter what you shoot them with so long as you get enough penetration.
Use what you have to protect yourself and family.
Fmj is just fine. I carry a keltec 32 sometimes, and I carry the hottest 32 fmj available. 9mm fmj is a lot more powerful.
My personal choice is I prefer self defense ammo for the in between calibers like 9mm. Sure ball ammo can work, but I read in a Soldier of Fortune magazine several years back (take that for what you will) that when out troops started carrying 9mm FMJ instead of 45, they simply weren’t dropping the enemy dead in their tracks. The 45ACP has been dropping bodies dead in their tracks with FMJs for over 100 years. Some special forces troops started carrying their own personal sidearms or sneaking self defense ammo because they simply didn’t trust the 9mm balls. I understand that’s when a lot of research went into improving the 9mm round. Today, 9mm is king but that’s kinda because of advances in ammo.. so in 9mm I use defensive ammo. If a 45 it simply doesn’t matter all that much. It’s gonna drop em no matter what. And when I carry one of my 380 pocket pistols, I kinda agree with you. I actually trust range rounds over defensive rounds. Although I wanna try out Liberty Civil Defense rounds. I like that concept and it should reduce the total carry weight.
The claim of fmj rounds over penetrating and hurting or killing an innocent is only quasi legit at best. Meaning that it could happen but I have yet to see a documented example of it actually happening soley because it was an fmj round. Innocents are hurt or killed by errant rounds and this can happen no matter what manner of projectile it is
It's actually happened quite a few times, just because you are uninformed doesn't make it less true.
@@chuckhaggard1584 I get your point which is why I ask you to, INFORM me by showing the proof by giving me a link. That is if you can
@@chuckhaggard1584when did it happen?
@@kennethrisner8648 The response is always "crickets" when this question is asked. So I think we've got our answer.
Just my .02 but you can’t count on getting any specific type of ammo. Use the best ammo you can get BUT be prepared/trained to do what you need to with the cheapest/most basic ammo made for your firearm because that may be all you will be able to get.
Good argument Both have their merit. Some weapons just don't like hollow points, Some just fine. I recommend premium ammo just because of quality control.
FMJ WILL USUALLY run smoother and reliably through ANY weapon. The hollow seed is usually the one that will "jam up" in ANY weapon. It's due to the sharp edge of the "hollow" seed that they get hung up.
Alternatively, polish the slide on the barrel if you have no idea or if you have a jam or failure to load.
You're welcome!
Or, you can put a couple hundred rounds of hollow through to make sure you have ZERO problems BEFORE you rely on it 😉
They are super reliable
I carry .357 magnum 158 grain FMJ in my model 686 Smith. At the range I use FMJ rounds as well. You don’t get as much lead fouling and carbon burns around the head of the cylinder like you would with solid lead nose bullets or JSP for that matter. I do use solid lead nose bullets if I am in bear country, you get much deeper penetration with lead cast round nose bullets. I never use hollow point ammo,to expensive and I am just old school. Haha.
The US Military used FMJ for decades many, many, thousands of enemy have been dispatched from this World with FMJ ammo. It is patently absurd to say it is inadequate for self defense.
But, keep in mind that we are a signer to the Geneva Convention and are bound to its proscriptions. The military advantage of the FMJ is that injuring enemy combatants and thus tying up enemy medics.
I concur with your statement.
But, you need to keep multi layers of penetration to a minimum when you are a civilian!
The hollows expand and slow down after hitting a target. Maybe not a ton, but it could be the difference between someone in your house getting hurt, or a neighbor, that you SHOULD use hollow if your weapon will eat it.
Just saying 👍
@@ricklong3218 that is a very revelent point. No pistol round has more stopping power than a 12 gauge shotgun with 00 Buck, if you live in a condo, you can kill your neighbor along with a home invader your attempting to shoot.
My 1911 does not like hollow points so I just run full metal jackets
Try polishing the feed ramp
Most defensive ammo is velocity based. A lot of carry guns these days have short barrels and cannot propel the bullet fast enough to achieve adequate expansion. So endlessly searching for defensive ammo for your 2.5 snubby revolver or small caliber semi auto probably won't provide the desired results anyway. Makes sense, right? Thank's Paul Harrell.
FMJ for training. I carry Underwood Defender +P+ and G9 Defense external hollow points. That being said, something is better than nothing. The external hollow points will not clog up, or have ramp issuses like hollow points as well as deform as much while shooting thru things like windshields, drywall and sheet metal while still creating a good wound channel thru flesh
Exactly....no one wants to get shot with anything at all.
My first coment ,well thsnk u for your input we sure loveed your video .we will fallow you ,keep putting out great info an thank u
7 yards is what they say the average distance for self defence shooting. If you not can hit the head or upper chest at 7 yards you probably must go to the range and start it all over. I dont want a FMJ in my head, i think i am pretty dead then:)
Nothing is wrong with hollow points but I’m a old school type of guy FMJ is simple and simple works I carry 45 acp 230 grain ball
It makes total sense to me
Thanks!
Good fair presentation. Hollow points are obviously the correct choice, but if your life/gun requires you to use fmj it is better than nothing.
Let me fix that.

There. That's better.
Bullitz is bullitz. Uze what you gotz. 🤣 We should spend more time discussing how to bury your latest home invader. (And, when to buy lime supplements) Under next years squash seems like a good alternative. I meant to say..... peace to everyone. "Where's Nancy?" Just joking. I know she's drinking adrenachrome in the kitchen.
a 25. acp can feel like all the gun in the world when its all you have to defend yourself with lol i remember when i was a little kid , i was with my mom at home and we suspected someone was breaking in, she pulled that little 25. auto out of her purse and i felt immediately safer.
Thats awesome lol
Check with your local judges and local lawyers as they will determine if you go to jail or not - nit cool, but that's the reality of it all !
From what i understand theres no point of using hollow points in a short barrel gun because they dont expand and act like fmj
It's so expensive to stockpile hollow points.
I use Fjb ammo in my glock,
You spilled Full Metal Jacket wrong

There's a reason why the military carry 9mm 124gr Nato.
Correct. International law and cost of bullet manufacture
Go old red dead style make your own if you need it.
I shall not call you an idiot for having an opinion and sharing the reasons why you have said opinion. I tend to agree anyway so calling you an idiot would be inappropriate! Hello kevin.....I see you over there in the middle distance. Your not fooling anyone!
You would do better if you cut all the chatter and get straight to the point. You could have done this video in 3 minutes....and it would have been 75% less boring.

another caveat you are in a shtf situation and grid is down fmj is perfectly acceptable
In that situation, whatever you have is fine lol
its better than nothing but for me fmj is last resort if i have nothing else
