    I'm having an awesome rose day of your videos! Learning so much each time I see them over & over again. I seem to need to get immersed into video rose land with your teachings to boost my confidence then I'll have enough tips & direction to once again give it a try. I'm getting it re value, shadow, half tone etc but I always get mixed up in my figuring out how to direct the angles of the petals. Especially inside the bowl. It gets choppy. I'm enjoying the longer videos too. Feels like I'm in an actual classroom. Thank you for your wonderful teaching Dave!!!

    These last 3 or 4 videos on correction, paint consistency and tone correction have been amazing and more than a little helpful. Thank you so much!!! I've heard you say in several videos that most people leave your video after the first 5 minutes. That is hard for me to fathom. The first video of yours I watched, I was so fascinated that I spent the entire day watching as many videos as I could. I've watched them in their entirety over and over again, even those over an hour long. It is what made me become a student. You are easy to understand and you don't paint so fast we can't follow your strokes.

    You are very generous with your knowledge, experience and also with the free videos and materials. The words for the next paintings :"Stop the white with a halftone", very helpful! Thank you so much!

    David, I really like how you lay the dark tones next to your light tones on your pallet and then make the half tones between the two. It really help to see the half tone better. I find that is hard to judge how light or dark a color is going to look on the painting until its on the painting because how light or dark a color looks depends on how light or dark the color next to it is. The way you set up your pallet allows the painter to see the tones next to each other before putting it on the painting.

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  4 роки тому

      Thank you Sandra, I used always tell my students, the palette is where you paint your design and the board is where you apply the paint. Helps to mix the tones next to each other so you can see the change.

    Thank you so much,David. It is really good lesson. I can understand things that are difficult to understand with words alone when I actually see them. White is a really dangerous color. I understood how to use halftones and how they relate to the colors of other flowers. I think that this way of thinking is very useful for me! Thank you!!!

    Thank you David for such an informative guide into different use of tones. I've started painting again 🙂 and really find the greyscale an enormous help as its bringing my paintings together nicely. I'm going to try Golden heavy body to do some roses and see if it works to give the same effects as your flowers. Your so lucky to have such good weather, it's 55f with rain & wind here in the UK 😕🌺

    Dave, can you go into a little more detail about the boards you paint on and how you prepare them? Do you use gesso at all? I know you’ve probably discussed this in the past but it’s been a long time ago that I recall watching something about it. Thank you

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Karen, I use MDF 1/8 inch thick or hardboard panels. I sometimes cover with linen, but not too much for these quick studies. I don't use gesso. New generation acrylics don't need that. I just give 1 or 2 coats of Heritage paint and then sand lightly with 180 grit sandpaper. Not too smooth. I like a matte surface that grabs a little. No need to use sealer or anything. After I finish, I varnish with Heritage Polyurethane varnish. That provides the final overall protection for the painting.

      David Jansen .... I found the board at Home Depot. Smooth on the front, back is rough like texture. I’m assuming you’re painting on the smooth side yes?

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  4 роки тому

      Hi Karen, The kind I buy is smooth on both sides, but I know of the kind you have. I have used it and it works well. Yes, use the smooth side.
