- Today we’re making the Tartan Cocktail! This is a new scotch drink recipe for you to try at home. If you like Rob Roys and Rusty Nails - I really think you’ll enjoy this one. It took some time to finalize the recipe, but I'm really happy with the final result - bold, rich, a touch of sweetness, and bitter on the finish. Hope you all enjoy this one! Cheers!

Great video, but the Bitter Bear link doesn't work - it's been truncated.
@@jimsteinborn got it 👍 Thanks for letting me know!
@@AndersErickson It's the least I can do, given how much I've enjoyed your work 🙂
Thanks for sharing legend!! 🎉
Definitely mixing myself a Tartan this coming weekend and will wear my Bitter Bear hoodie while I do so. Cheers! If you see this, can I ask if I were going to sub the amaro you used, I have Nonino and Capo Vecchio. Do you have thoughts on which would be best?
Your impression of STB's shaking mannerisms was spot on! 😂
Hahaha thanks - couldn't turn down the opportunity!
😁
Love you guys using each others' trademark mannerisms in your videos. First Steve's Irish Coffee video, now this!
Steve's a great guy - had to return the favor!
@@AndersErickson The (good-natured) parody of Steve's smile while shaking was hilarious.
I think Anders shake and smile impression was way better than my intro impression! 😅
the steve's shaking really got me HAHAHAHA
1:23 I died laughing at the patented Steve smile.
😅
The Steve the bartender smile was amazing, great vid! Making this tonight!
I laughed hard. Great nod to Steve.
Your Steve-the-Bartender impression was pricelessly spot on.
Hahaha hope he approves 🤞
Oh, and the cocktail looks amazing. Thank you for sharing.
@@AndersErickson approves 🎉😂
1:22 haha love it! Anders adopting Steve's Smile 'n Shake method
😁
Omg the Smile!!!! Yes!!! Steve would be proud
So proud! 😁
Just got home from bartending a Burns Party for 70.....the Tartan was far and away the favorite cocktail of the evening - thx Anders!
perfect "Steve the bartender" shake Anders
Yeah NICE BOOK📖👍 & 🤤Drink!
I love the smiling reference to steve while shaking
Love the Steve Grin whilst shaking 🤣🤣
Wow the Tartan looks like a real winner!
Also Steve's signature mid-shake smile got me haha
Lol. That steve-esqe shake and grin!
Please bring your wife more in your video! I love her reactions. You guys are so fun together!
I hadn't get to the actual cocktail part in the video, but I've already give it a like! What a fantastic shout out for Steve! You two, are my favourite and the only bartenders I watch! That reference to Steve's shake'n'smile was genious 😂
I love the relationship in UA-cam bartendes community. It's so amazing and friendly
Lmao at the imitating Steve’s shake and smile. 😂
Always very entertaining and informative!! Thanks for the great drinks you share with us you tubers Anders. Keep up the good work.
LOL … loved the “Steve smile” while shaking!!
Short and sweet. Lately I haven't been drinking at all but I still watch your videos because they're so short and entertaining I can't help it!
This is my newest favorite drink!!! My husband just made this for me. He used Johnny Double Black and Cinpatrazzo for the Amaro. This is AMAZING!! Thanks Anders!!
Az is looking particularly well put-together. Always appreciate her appearances.
These are the flavors I love, so this is a must do for me. Looking forward to it!
When you did Steve's shake smile 😂😂 Love it!
My two favorite bartenders Steve and Anders ❤
Don’t know Drambuie liquor but completely fan of Isle of Skye (and Talisker 🥃).
So I have to found it in France and taste it.
Thank you so much Anders
🫶
I discovered Edradour when I visited Scotland in 2005 and have loved it ever since - so nice to see it in a cocktail. This one looks awesome!
Awesome as usual! You and Steve are the ones that got me starting up my home bar and I am eternally grateful. In fact your videos of the essential bar tools and the essential bottles are my foundation.
Its the first day of the Lunar New Year where I am right now and here’s wishing you a Happy and prosperous Lunar New Year! (Idea for a new vid perhaps..? 😝😂)
LOVE the STB shaking smile homage! Well done.
Just made this...fantastic! Thanks for another great cocktail.
ANDERS!!! This is my kind of cocktail!!! Being the ULTIMATE Dramboui fan, I cant wait to try this!! CHEERS!!!
This one's for you Tim!! Cheers!!
omg the Steve shake and smile, I love it
Love the classic Steve Smile during the shake!
Just made this… it’s fire 🔥 🔥 🔥
I tried a few variations of this (different vermouths, different amaros) basically because I didn't have any Cocchi or Ramazzotti. I tried Meletti, Averna, Fernet Branca, etc...Well I finally picked up a bottle Cocchi and Ramazotti today. The perfect combination of flavors! This will be near the top of my list moving forward!
The merch looks great, Anders. Slick hat! 🤙🏽
Just made this for the first time. A perfect drink with a fine cigar.
I appreciate the Steve the Bartender shake and smile, looking forward to picking up his book!
Thanks Julian! 🙏
OH man I laughed so hard at your impression of Steve's smiling shake that I spat coffee all over the table
You and Steve are two of my faves! Thanks for another great video!!
😊
Just wanted to say thank you for all the great content and the urge to start drinking after watching your videos! 😆 We recently went on a trip to New Orleans and spent our time going to different bars and restaurants trying signature drinks like Old Fashions and Sazerac! The history was amazing and so was the drinks! One of my favorite bars was Lafitte's Black Smith Bar. At Pat O Brian's drinking hurricanes we were hooked on the Nostalgia of the city. We returned home looking for content to learn more about what we where drinking and came across your channel. We now binge watch your content like a released season on Netflix! We love your style, attitude and history of each drink you make. Have a great day and Happy new year. Congratulations on your engagement 👍Cheers
Thanks Steve! New Orleans had a profound effect on me as a younger bartender - great city with so much history (cocktails and otherwise). Thanks for sharing your experience and being here for the vids! Cheers 🥃
Awesome video Anders! I love how you gave the ICONIC stevethebartender shake and smile. It made me laugh quite a bit 😂 also thankyou for having us at your bar
You did the Steve smile!!!
Made this drink for the first time today - VERY tasty, even using run of the mill Scotch. Thanks!
Scotch is always my go-to whisky, so I definitely need to try this
Had one just now. Used Aperol. Very nice. Smooth, sophisticated. Well done!
Whuah... that is a great one... thanks for sharing... thumbs up!
I have Steve’s book and I love it! Every recipe comes with a little bit of information about the cocktail, which a lot books sadly leave out. Also, the beginning of the book has basically everything you need to know in order to plan out a good home bar.
Thanks Joshua, glad you love it! 🙌
Awesome drink Anders, I love Rob Roy variations. Have a good weekend bro.
Thanks David! Enjoy your weekend too!
Great drink. Great fun video.
First time I actually made the drink while the video played... Really great. Had on a cube of ice and got better with time.
Got Steve’s book on your recommendation. Spent the day reading it and trying the recipes. The best part was the QR codes accompanying each recipe that link to Steve’s videos on making that drink. If anyone else happened to be thinking about writing a cocktail book 🤔, the QR code idea is a really nice touch.
Cheers Bradley! 🙏
Really great cocktail! Before I discovered your channel, I didn’t have a lot of cocktail hits with scotch. Now WoW! I used Amaro Montenegro and it was really good.
Nice, this will be my after work libation today. Cheers!
Nice work! Love all those derivative cocktails, so will definitely give this one a try! As always, really enjoy your channel.
Cheers, Tony! Hope you enjoy this one 🥃
Sounds absolutely fantastic, as soon as it’s cocktail time here I’ll be making one to try…. Just a wee thing to note, unlike we do with a lot of ‘uie’ sounds, us Scots don’t actually say Drambooie as you would expect. For some reason we just say Drambuie, the same way everyone else does 😉……. Ok cocktail hour has been and gone, and I’m pleased to say IMO, the Tartan is a better cocktail than the Manhattan, the Rusty Nail and the Rob Roy, hands down - it was so good in fact I l made myself another one, and that’s something I reserve for the best of the best. It’s a last minute addition to our Burn’s night menu as I think it will go a treat wi haggis. Slainte Mhath Anders!
Hey there Anders!! I made this tonight for my wife and some friends and we loved the Tartan! Really great drink! Cheers!
I was today years old when I realised that your catchphrase is on the back wall.
Love the Steve shoutout!
And finally, any sub suggestions for the scotch? I can’t find that particular one, and we don’t have Curiada where I live.
I just followed along and made one. Very good!
Cheers. Got my merch today. Love my beanie ❤❤❤
Loved this cocktail!!!! I was looking where is your bar!!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I ordered the book as soon as he announced it. It's a fantastic book, the format is great and the consistency of layout makes it easy to peruse.
Cheers David! 🎉 🙏
This looks excellent! Thanks!
Late comment as I was waiting for the Amaro but this is going to be a big favourite. I substituted Lillet Rouge for the sweet vermouth.
Fantastic thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing in ml also the measure 😊 looks good 👍
Bro the smile while shaking was so on point, kudos
I always appreciate a Drambuie cocktail. One of my favorite underrated liqueurs. Scotch and heather honey!
The smile and shake was great!
OMG, your impression of Steve’s smiling shake is awesome! 😂
😂
Before I started down my cocktail journey I was/am a scotch aficionado. Glad to see you using a sherry finished scotch. Excited to try this over the weekend. Cheers!!
That is a very tasty cocktail...Nice job creating that.
After seeing one of your videos I went and checked out Steve the Bartender’s channel. Lots of great stuff there for sure. He mentioned the “Bartenders handshake” in one of his videos. After some research it looks like it’s usually a shot… but it mentioned other stuff like cocktails or a shot of bitters from the bottle. The bartender’s handshake could make for an interesting video.
Haha, I bought a bottle of edradour shirt time ago and now I know how to use it😀😀😀😀 thx Anders 👍
got my merch, ordered it as soon as you posted it on patreon. looking forward to making this one soon
Thanks, Evan! Appreciate the support!
Love my beanie! To The Bar!!!!!!
TOO THE BAR! 🥃 Thanks you guys for offering merch! I am loving my new hoodie. Super comfortable and good quality. Can’t wait to see future offerings.
Happy you're liking the hoodie! Definitely more fun things to come in the future. Cheers!
Would Averna be a suitable substitute for Ramazzotti?
@@jschoenack absolutely! Thought about making that adjustment myself!
Being I don’t have Edradour and it is slightly peated, would you go with a Highland Park 12 for the smoky notes or possibly a Tomatin 12 for the herbal notes?
@@jschoenack ooh first choice would be the Highland Park for me - but both will be great!
Edradour in Perthshire is the smallest distillery in Scotland. My friend Gordon Duncan was piper in residence at Edradour and composed the bagpipe classic "The Edradour Stagger"....Anders, this needs to be the name of your next whisky creation!
I now live in Elora, Canada and on Wednesday next, Burns Night, my local cocktail bar will be serving the Bobbie Burns as per your recipe, with me providing some Burns songs and a truckload of haggis.
Your channel is an absolute delight- informative and informal, just encouraging of the joys of good drinks. Thank you!
I’m drinking a Tartan right now - this is one of the few cocktails that expressing both an orange peel and a lemon peel works for me (the Rolls Royce is the other). Happy Bobby Burns Day.
I will try this one since Rob Roys and Rusty Nails are up my sleeve o to speak.
Perfect for a saturday night and a Anders Erickson YT episode.
By the way i do have Steve the bartenders cocktailbook and it do have great content and a lot of recipes to discover.
Thank you Fu Gu! 🎉
As a Scotch lover and a grad student at Carnegie Mellon, I really have to try this one haha!
Hey Anders! Perfect drink for a wet, cold day! Made 2 versions - 1 with Oban, Drambuie, Cocchi, Cinpatrazzo & Orange bitters, the other with Johnny Double Black and both were outstanding. There is one downside to your drink recipes - they go down FAST!!! 🥳 Love it, keep them coming! And so cool that you did a shout out to Steve the Bartender - we love his channel too!
From Ravi’s Wife…personally, I prefer your channel Anders. 😊 The Johnny Double Black is really good for this but I need to go get a Highland Scotch and try this again!
Steve's book is great, got it for Christmas! Some day, when I grow up, I'll have to start down the scotch path and give your drink a try! Cheers!
Thanks so much Sean! ❤
Thanks for the video and share your recipe 🙏🏼 I love Edradour whisky. They make some very interesting whisky. If you ever go to Scotland then visit Edradour distillery. So interesting and so beautiful area and it’s one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland.
1:23 Nailed it!
Love the Steve smile whilst shaking
I got excited for this one, as i like a rusty nail, and i thought i had everything, then you pulled in the amaro..
Thanks anders👍🏻
Looks like something I'd love. Will try I'd as soon as I get the amaro 🍻
I just bought Steve the Bartender's book based on your plug alone. Can't wait. He owes you one. Thanks!
I certainly do! 😅
@@StevetheBartender_ On your North American book tour, make a stop to Grand Forks, ND and the Oxford Realty Upstairs Cocktail Bar. Thanks to guys like you and Anders, it is the best bar for hundreds of miles in any direction. Drinks on us all night long.
@@MultiMcfarlane I would love to go on your!!!
Anders this is exactly the kind of cocktail that I absolutely love!! I have to wait to make this lovely cocktail because I have COVID and am I ever annoyed! All I can say is "Covid is nasty." But I am getting better! I will celebrate with a Tartan Cocktail soon and I can't wait!! :-) Yes!! Fabulous drink Anders and terrific video!! Cheers!! 🙂
Delicious cocktail, keep inventing
Hi Anders! I’ve recently gotten very much into Sherry after watching a few of your videos and thought I would let you know that I would love a video about Sherry (like your wine/rum video you did a while back). I think the world of Sherry is fascinating and I’m sure you know a lot more than I do… just an idea 😊, again, goes without saying, love your work and cocktails x cheers from the rainy UK
Merch looks great!
We couldn’t watch the video until my hubby had put on his Anders hat! Great merch!❤
Yay! Thank you so much for grabbing one! 🥂
Nice Steve stare /stare into camera. That guy is a legend.
Lol, thanks Molly! ❤
@@StevetheBartender_ WTF Steve the Bartender. How many fucking demonstrational cocktails have you drunk tonight? Go home you are drunk. Look at you out their fishing for compliments on other peoples channels! Legend, on ya m8
@@StevetheBartender_ I was just busting your balls Steve you are a legend and don't you forget it.
Phew, I first read "tartar" instead of "tartan"... We live to see another day. I will definitely try this tonight. Thanx!
Yeah the Tartar Cocktail would be completely different!
That's my type of drink!
I see what you did there Anders. That's a Steve the Bartender smile/shake at timestamp 1:23. And I can't wait to try another Ander's original. I'm a huge fan of the Lucky Stone.
Haha thanks Dusty! Hope you like this one. Cheers!
Oh. I just love the cheesy "Steve" grin to the audience whilst shaking.
😁😁
Hello, Anders! Any chance you can do a video on the Revolver cocktail? FYI, love your channel!
Thank you for introducing me to Robbie Burns Day, it is now on my calendar and will be celebrated henceforth
Rabbie, not ‘Robbie’, and it’s Burns night, not day.
