My Grandma use to make creamed peas with small new potatoes from Grandpa's garden. Unbelievably good. I'm an old Grandpa and this is still a wonderful memory. God bless all here.
When I was growing up, My Mom made creamed peas often. She would ALWAYS make them when she made Salmon patties (the creamed peas were meant to be put on top of the Salmon Patties)...So the fact that you liked using it as a topping for your food is not odd to me. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
I love creamed peas! This is the first time I have seen any UA-camr make them! My Swedish mother made them and always served with salmon patties and boiled potatoes. She always used canned peas because they were a bit sweeter and she used the liquid from the can as well for the cream sauce.
I know this is an old comment but if you see this I would like to know if she used a flour roux? I also come from a family that always ate this along with salmon patties and we didn't use a roux.
I’ve been making this and eating it my entire life. When growing up, we ate it a lot during Lent. I always make it with evaporated milk. Yummy 😋. Then we have always served it over toast. My 3 kids love it too. In fact, my youngest has even requested it for her birthday dinner. That’s how much we love it. Creamed Peas on Toast.....now that’s what I call comfort food 😊
I grew up on sweet creamed peas! Small town in the southern Midwest so I was raised on something like this. No one makes creamed sweet peas like my momma bc she learned from her mom which was learned from my great grandma! It’s a “side dish” I can eat as a main course! Trying to pass this along to my kiddos! My son says not but thankfully my two year old daughter is crazy for it!!!
Love creamed peas! I put them over baked potatoes and fried fish all the time. My grandmother would make them during the holidays just for the two of us since we were the only ones who would eat it.
I love creamed peas my mother and grandmother made them for every holiday dinner and now I do. I like mine a little sweet and could eat a bowl with leftover dinner rolls..lol
I had been craving Creamed Peas. I have never made them before in my live. I went looking and your recipe came up. I made the Creamed Peas for Christmas Dinner. The entire family LOVED it. Thought it would make your day to hear what my family thought of your recipe. I have added your recipe to my collection. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this one! My Grandma (who raised me) made this but only when she made Salmon Loaf and boiled side of potatoes. I loved this on top of the salmon loaf and potatoes! Side note, she had a dog who would get left overs over his dinner kibble and he would gracefully remove Every.. Single… Pea 🤣and set them to the side, never to be touched🤣🥰💜
I want to say ty for your video. From what I can tell, it seems to be very close to my mother's. I wasn't into cooking, just eating as a kid. I regret this now since she's gone. Thank you again for this and your other videos.
I absolutely love creamed peas. I, too, was raised on them. I was looking for a recipe for a creamed pea filling for crepes. English Pea Creamed Crepes just sounds delicious to me. I also like to take 2 drained cans of LeSeur peas and make pea soup. I take one of the drained cans of peas and put them in a blender. I add my seasonings; 1 stick melted butter, and 2 cups of half and half. I blend until peas are well creamed. Then, I pour this mixture into a microwavable bowl. I stir in the second can of peas. Then, I microwave until warmer than warm but not as hot as hot. You don't want this lovely soup hot. Serve with cornbread. "YUM!" My husband and I have been married almost 46 years. Shortly after we married, I introduced him to my English pea soup. He was absolutely in love. This soup can be made with other veggies as well...yellow squash soup, tomato soup, green bean soup, asparagus soup, etc. Also beans...black eye peas, pinto beans, butter beans, etc.
I love peas I have never seen them creamed. I’m gonna have to try this. I love the idea of adding ham and potatoes and making it into a soup. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!
THANK YOU!! I grew up w/ this & my sister was the only one who made it. Unfortunately I don’t get to spend thanksgiving w/ her so I don’t get this fabulous side. BUT I’m gonna make this now that I’ve got a recipe. This was my favorite!
This may be old, but honestly, does anything foodie ever really get old? You cannot believe some the odd recipes out there for creamed peas. It was refreshing to find yours. Just shelled a bunch from my garden to make this tonight. Yum!
Just the one I was looking for. My mom made this when I was a little kid. Now I'm a big kid and I want to make it. I sure do miss my MOM. thanks for sharing this. Have a super day.
This is so Beautiful! We use to be able to buy them from the store as my ma got older but you can't find them no more! Believe me I love them the way you do ! So now this Thanksgiving I am making them for my family homemade! I am 59 years old and all my grandchildren are 18 and older except the baby who is 5' 1 and 10 years old! My ma started adding some sugar to hers at the end of her life, but they use to have the white sauce packets then but you can't even find that anymore! Ty God Bless you!
One of our favourites in our home. We add those little baby onions to ours. Nutmeg is so delish in cream sauces!!!! Mmmmmmm now I am hungry...... Thank you for the video 😊
This was a favorite holiday side when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, but kind of fell out of favor. I say, let's bring it back! Oh and I liked to mix the creamed peas into my mashed potatoes, gravy was for the stuffing and cranberry sauce (whole berry) was for the turkey. Thanks for the recipe! :)
Try it over mashed potatoes. My folks used to make a big pot of creamed peas and tuna, back when times were rough in the 60s. My brother and I nicknamed it "Tuna Slop". It's still a dish I crave when I'm feeling nostalgic.
Or visa versa. Cold roux to hot liquid, also no lumps. Restaurants make pounds of roux at a time and keep it refrigerated. This is how they do it. Also, if you omit the nutmeg and add a can of tuna, you have a very old New England dish called Tuna Wiggle. May also be made with shrimp. Love creamed peas! Thanks Angelica! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!🦃🌷😀
We would make this in the spring/summer when the peas were fresh on. Then add a good amount of small shrimp and serve it over buttered toast. Insanely good! Its called shrimp wiggle. Don't ask me why.
Thank you, this is a great way to use canned peas, just replace the thawed frozen peas with drained canned peas, bout 2 cans. I also made some croutons as shown in "Tuscan Bean Soup Recipe" by Food Wishes, (I mean, it's just crispy bread), and added them to the creamed peas. It's actually really tasty, though I had to add some more butter, salt and pepper, and some grated parmesan cheese as well as some herbs to the croutons. I've also used a shallot instead of an onion. I'll add the converted measurements. 80g butter 1 onion/shallot 60g flour pepper, nutmeg 700ml cold milk 3 salt pinches 500-600g drained canned peas, or about 2 cans drained
This looks amazing! I’ve never tried. I will definitely try this recipe out. I’d like to request a chicken tamale / chili verde tamale recipe. I’ve seen some really good ones but they are all in Spanish. Thank you, Angelica 🌹
Anytime I make a white sauce, I always, always add a dash or two (easy) of Worcestershire sauce. You don’t want to taste it. It says hmmm what is that flavor in the background. Try it.
I keep telling people to add nutmeg to their cream sauces it will improve the flavor. And they're always like ewww yuck, even after I say you cant taste the nutmeg itself. Even my husband is like eww, if he only knew how many things I actually put it in LOL. I think I'm the only one that loves creamed peas. I like putting sauted mushrooms and bacon bits in mine. I'm also the only one that loves split pea soup. I made a big batch and had to freeze some of it.
I learned this in home economics class in high school. Love creamed peas. Make creamed potatoes as well to serve with fish. My husband loved them. This is like a bechamel sauce. Looks a bit soupy. Needs more peas, at least 32 ounces. If you're using as a sauce or gravy like you do, thinner is better. When I cook with milk I only use whole milk. None of that watered down stuff. I only buy whole milk. I don't drink it. I don't care for it. In cooking, it's a must. Also, I only cook with salted butter. I just don't add salt or as much of it in recipes. I'd waste too much and with a price of at least $4 a pound, it's too expensive to waste any. Kwik Trip has started selling at $2.49 a lb for the holidays. I'm stocking up. Happy Thanksgiving.
Oooohhh my goodness my mom use to make this. CAN U PLZ MAKE THA ONE SOUP U WER JUS TALKING ABOUT, PLZ!?! I have some ham but I dnt knw wat to do wit it.
Reading the comments, I'm left wondering if I've missed something. I mean.. Why??? Creamed veg makes me ick. I'm clearly not dealing with this very well. 😂😂😂
My Grandma use to make creamed peas with small new potatoes from Grandpa's garden. Unbelievably good. I'm an old Grandpa and this is still a wonderful memory.
God bless all here.
Same. North Dakota farm family.
Growing up our family at Creamed Diced Turnips. Still a holiday favorite with my grown children.

Oh wow. I love creamed peas. The adding ham or using the base for soups is an excellent idea.
I love creamed peas! My mom would fix cream peas and new potatoes, either way it’s wonderful.
My Mother use to make them that way too , I had totally forgotten about that until I saw this , I will have to make them soon ,
Having creamed peas over turkey and dressing sounds Amazing. Doesn't seem weird at all.
I love creamed peas!!! My mom use to make ‘em with fried pork chops.
My Mom always made this for us. She added potatoes and called it English peas and Irish potatoes.
My mom always made them with fried chicken 💓💓💓 so so good!
I’ve been making this and eating it my entire life. When growing up, we ate it a lot during Lent. I always make it with evaporated milk. Yummy 😋. Then we have always served it over toast. I swear!! Your recipes are always here when I need them 🥺 you're a lifesaver
I love creamed peas my mother and grandmother made them for every holiday dinner and now I do. I like mine a little sweet and could eat a bowl with leftover dinner rolls..lol
I make this with the pearl onions & tiny dumplings made from pinching canned biscuits into tiny balls......Delicious!
Thanks for sharing!

Me too! My grandmother made creamed peas from the peas from her garden. Loved them!! Thank you for this recipe.
I haven't had creamed peas in a long time. I had forgotten how much I enjoy them. Thanks for the recipe! Blessings all!!!! 💜💜

My kids grandma used to make this when I was pregnant.... soooo good

Just the one I was looking for. My mom made this when I was a little kid. Now I'm a big kid and I want to make it. I sure do miss my MOM. thanks for sharing this. Have a super day.
You do the same! 🙏

The frozen pea is one of the great kitchen successes of the modern era. Frozen peas and frozen cranberries.
Peas over turkey and stuffing is like a version of chicken a la king…yummy!
I can't wait to eat this. I love creamed peas and didn't know how to make it.
I tried your recipe - turned out to be fantastic! Thank you!

My mother in law made this with tuna fish over toast YUM YUM !!!!’nn
Try it over mashed potatoes. My folks used to make a big pot of creamed peas and tuna, back when times were rough in the 60s. My brother and I nicknamed it "Tuna Slop". It's still a dish I crave when I'm feeling nostalgic.
looks good. We always made it thicker and had it on toast.
Looks delicious and other than just peas you could put mixed veggies in it. Gonna give this a try.
Or visa versa. Cold roux to hot liquid, also no lumps. Restaurants make pounds of roux at a time and keep it refrigerated. This is how they do it.

Thanks Angelica! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!🦃🌷😀
Never heard it called "Tuna Wiggle", my brother and I called it "Tuna Slop". Whatever you want to call it, I just call it GOOD!
My Mom always made creamed carrots for the holidays. I loved them. But peas would be so good or even peas & carrots!
Making this again tonight for the inlaws. It was a huge hit last week. Cheers!
We always do creamed corn like this, I never thought of doing it with pea. Going to have to try this, this year. 🖤
I will so try this 👍cream peas....🍛
Lovely recipe. I am an Indian but I like foreign recipes and food. 😇
I’m definitely having this for dinner tonight
Hmmm yes looking forward to try all thank you so much.

Was so delicious, thank you.❤❤❤❤
Hope you're feeling better! Thank you for still taking the time to upload, although you didn't have to!
Gonna try to make it for Thanksgiving. Thank you
We had creamed peas on meat pies - yum
This looks fantastic!!
This reminds me of a Hungarian dish. We eat this as a main course with Hungarian meatballs. Now u gave me ideas on how to season it better.
Keg10609 It's a year later that I'm reading this, but I would love to see your Hungarian dish.
I love cream peas.
Using this recipe tonight! 💗
We would make this in the spring/summer when the peas were fresh on. Then add a good amount of small shrimp and serve it over buttered toast. Insanely good! Its called shrimp wiggle. Don't ask me why.
Looks good Mama!
I like to use baby peas. Regular peas can be so dry. Thank you for you recipe.
Thank you, this is a great way to use canned peas, just replace the thawed frozen peas with drained canned peas, bout 2 cans. I'll add the converted measurements.
80g butter
1 onion/shallot
60g flour
pepper, nutmeg
700ml cold milk
3 salt pinches
500-600g drained canned peas, or about 2 cans drained
Just discovered your channel and I love it ❤️ you make your recipes look so easy to make. I can’t wait to try some of them! 😊
This looks amazing! I’ve never tried. I will definitely try this recipe out. I’d like to request a chicken tamale / chili verde tamale recipe. I’ve seen some really good ones but they are all in Spanish. Thank you, Angelica 🌹
Oh this is my dear departed grandmother written all over it!!!!!
Looks good 👌
Beautiful and delicious!
Add in some tiny pearl onions and that takes this to another level!
Hi, I never thought of using peas as one of our side dishes, but I would like to try it next to ham. Thanks for the idea. 🤔😄
Thanks Angelica.❤❤❤🌺
Show the recipe of the soup with the potatoes and ham with this. Thanks.
My Grandma used to make this and pour it over salmon patties
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I always add dehydrated onions right to the pan (no soaking), for stuff like this this. I find it adds a depth of flavor.
Too soupy for me.
Going to make tonight 😋
Made it, everyone was happy 👍
Thank you!
I see fettuccini noodles for some reason 😎
Wow yummy
How much evaporated milk or heavy cream in place of the 3 c of whole milk? TY
Anytime I make a white sauce, I always, always add a dash or two (easy) of Worcestershire sauce. You don’t want to taste it. It says hmmm what is that flavor in the background. Try it.
I’ve never thought to add a little onion to mine, but will from now on. But otherwise that’s how I make my creamed peas!
I keep telling people to add nutmeg to their cream sauces it will improve the flavor. And they're always like ewww yuck, even after I say you cant taste the nutmeg itself. That roux tip sounded like a credit to Chef John!
Instead ham I'm going to add diced cooked bacon. Can't wait how it comes out.
I make creamed peas and potatoes for Easter. I ate it over my ham. 😶
I laugh now in hindsight. Macaroni salad always made it to my mother’s holiday table.
Love creamed peas! Yum!
My husband and I both love peas with cream sauce. My son, not so much.
My mom made cream peas whenever we had pork chops for dinner
My 88 year old dad said that's how his mama made it he wanted so cream peas for a a long time
Oooohhh my goodness my mom use to make this.
CAN U PLZ MAKE THA ONE SOUP U WER JUS TALKING ABOUT, PLZ!?!
I have some ham but I dnt knw wat to do wit it.
Can I sub out the milk die almond milk?? I am vegan now.🤔🙂
the only thing my mom did different was some chicken broth to give it a little more flavor
How do you get your onions like that?
I minced them like I mince garlic. 😊
Was that a lot of cream and not enough peas?
Reading the comments, I'm left wondering if I've missed something.
I mean.. Why??? Creamed veg makes me ick.
I'm clearly not dealing with this very well. 😂😂😂
Username checks out.
I would pour cream peas over everything
