I took a tating class once about 15 years ago. It is daunting but beautiful. I have several "antique" pieces. Some yards long. I will not tat again. I'd rather find it in old sewing cashes.

Hi Rachel! Thanks for the treat. The little black artist doll with the beads n white dress is by Magee Masey, an Australian Artist. I own several of her dolls.

Such a fun session! I love the Linda surprising ones😁.
Oh those handmade Christening gowns, thee desire to show your newborn in fine robes on their first public appearance was a cultural necessity in Britain right up until the 60s. Our family Christening robe was made by my great, great grandmother and worn by every child on that one occasion each including my brother and me in the 1950s. I kept it but it was so thin, when I hung it up to air after being folded away for 30 years, the long skirt just fell away, ripping all the tucks and embroidery on the bodice. Only the petticoat remains but, though nobody would see it, it too is a marvel of handmade lace, tucks and embroidery.
Looking at those leg warmers, and remembering their were no rubber or plastic pants even when my parents were born in the 20s, I'm glad not to have been in my baby raising days back then! Those leg warmers, along with diaper, petticoats and gown would be soaked or soiled several times a day and require changing, then washing without the aid of a washing machine. No wonder boys wore robes or dresses until they we beyond toddler age, pot training would be hard with no elastic or zippers for pants. Dresses were often worn without underwear so the child was covered , but could be put on the pot in a hurry during training.

Fun treasures! Some of those large dolls looked like they were dressed in human baby clothes, repurposed? When I was a kid I had a large doll. My mom put a beautiful dress on her, and when I asked my mom said it was one I used to wear.

    • @RachelHoffmanDolls

Yes, many children size clothes are often repurposed for baby dolls. Thank you so much for tuning in!!

I love seeing your box opening videos like this, and the tatting was a treat! My grandmother tatted, and when I went through her sewing room and things recently, I now have a huge variety of tatting projects she never used, and some she never finished. It's beautiful, and perfect for handmade doll outfits.
I also found her childhood dolls, and have begun to clean and restore them. Sadly, one of them has a shattered arm, as the plastic has deteriorated over the past 80 years, but I figure I can find a way to repair it with all the modern sculpting materials we have at hand. Worst case, I'll make a mold and cast a new one.

I love the vintage dishes and accessories! They took such care to have them look real 😻💯. My mom demanded all children have on T-shirts under their clothes, even in 100 degree temperatures. She wanted to put hats on them too. 😂❤️💯

Hey Rachel, I don’t know if you have the bell notifications available to subscribers or not, but I can’t seem to select it. This makes me sad because I keep missing your live-streams. I would love to be notified when you go live like with others that I follow.

Thank you so much for asking! The videos initially air on either the doll shop Facebook page or my personal Facebook page, and then they are uploaded to here ASAP. UA-cam took away my live streaming capability because of background music in a video over the summer that had copyright. Dang, it! I hope to get the ability back soon. Thank you for tuning in!

The little peg wooden is by Eric Horne. He is a wonderful miniaturist from the UK and was often set up at the same shows near where my booth was set up selling my miniature Bebe's. He is a charming man and makes those peg woodens even smaller with all working joints.

I have a tiny crocheted hat like this one. My grandmother used to make these and they were used to keep needles, pins and a thimble was inside the crown of the hat in order to keep the crown from caving in.

so loved the tiny dolls and the old garments...I do remember some of these. My daughter had some that tied with ribbons.
I have an ancient frozen Chinese doll. My father unearthed it in the 1960's while renovating our house in Innisfail. Innisfail had a strong early Chinese population. I'd like to learn more about it. I mean it could be worth Millions!!! Tee Hee
NB Innisfail is a sugar growing town in tropical North Queensland, Australia.

Could the little "bottle" cover with the embroidered B be a cover for a doll sized hot water bottle?
My grandmother taught me to tat although it has been so long and with my arthritis and neuropathy, I doubt I can do a very good job. She taught me to see, make patterns, do alterations, quilt, crochet and embroider. Many wonderful hours spent with her.
