    Brilliant...no more costly services and the engine can be used for other purposes when not being used on a boat... nothing worse than the expensive outboard sitting around not earning it's keep for 50 weeks of the year....thanks for the vid ...

      Yeah it worked out really well and is still flying. Engines with blown power heads are numerous and no shortage of good mower engines. Any Saturday morning in a recycling centre will get you one of those.

    Having recently found a 4m on a rubbish dump and successfully refurbished it, this outboard is the natural partner for such a boat. My tip shop has a few old OBs I can pick up the lower from. Thanks for the inspiration. I really like your use of the socket set. Awesome work.

      Well it’s still flying along and I’m now using it as an auxiliary on my 25 foot Arvor. I keep it below deck in a sleeping bag with the petrol in a separate container. Tested it in August and I had it out at set up in 2 minutes and started first whip and pushed the boat along at about 4-5 knots. Great job and no expensive outboard tied up to probably never be used.

      @@Ivan-Archer yep, I also have an 8.5m custom alum. with twin ob. (Arvors are lovely mate, it was the top of my list but i just could not find a good used one cheap enough (because they are great boats there are no cheap used ones!) congrats!) Anyway the only part of the boating experience i dread is when your returned home, towed this huge thing and parked it, your exhausted after spending 2 days out fishing or whatever and then you have to flush the motors.... with these no flushing. What a dream.
      Even harder if your at a mooring and there is no clean water to flush
      Its great to hear yours is still kicking and that join with a socket still holds.
      If you can move your 25' fibreglass at 4-5knt that is very impressive... and useful. So enjoyed your video. Thanks!

      My Dad used to fish way on out in the blue water, off Big Pine Key Florida, and kept a little emergency put- put motor to come home with, of the 302cu in. quit on him. He said that would be a long way to paddle! He heard that, if you were running two outboards tied together on the transome, you could run a little motor like that and actually make a difference in your speed, if you were trying to out-run a storm. Just a little something to put onto the idea mix, if you find yourself close to a water spout!
      He said to put the boat on the trailer and shove a 55 gallon barrel under it almost full of fresh water, and run it a few minutes, every time you had it in the ocean. Bill, from Tn. 🇺🇸

    Just the video i needed for inspiration 👍 it seemed pretty clever, with the socket. Thank you for sharing.

    Excellent. If you were to find a carburetor engine with a pump diaphragm like from a lawn tractor, you could carry the fuel in a larger tank inside the boat, and have even more horsepower to boot. But it's probably not too much bother to carry a petrol can in the boat and refuel with it when the tank gets empty. Sometimes simple is better.

      @Ivan-Archer  Рік тому

      Cheers. I use it as an auxiliary on my 25 foot Arvor and it moves it at about 4 knots. I have it in a sleeping bag below deck with an empty fuel tank. In case of use I can put it on the back, tank filled with fuel, and running in under a minute. That way I don’t tie up a valuable outboard 😁😁

      @@videomaker8207 I’m now using it as an auxiliary on my 8m Arvor. She makes about 4 knots. Ideal set up as it’s a cheap rarely used alternative to a €1500 engine tied up doing nothing. I keep it below deck wrapped in a sleeping bag with the petrol in separate container. Put the petrol in and it t starts first time every time.

    How do you turn off the engine?

    • @Ivan-Archer
      @Ivan-Archer  3 роки тому

      I wired the outboard stop switch to the mower stop wire which simply goes to ground and cuts the spark. I tried to use everything I could on the outboard bit. It’s on its third summer now and in everyday use.

    • @Beachlife-1
      @Beachlife-1 3 роки тому

      Like how did you hook up the switch thank

    • @Ivan-Archer
      @Ivan-Archer  3 роки тому

      There are two wires coming from the tiller arm switch. This switch is normally open. One of the wires connects to the mower coil wire and the other is bolted to the engine. When the switch is pressed the coil wire is connected to ground and kills the spark.

      Turn the engine off by pulling the spark plug wire off the plug 🙃

      Another video for lawnmowers said you can bend the governor arm to speed up, (dont mess with the gov. Screw) these engines can run faster without issue. You can look up the rpms get a cheep tachometer. I have a 3hp dinky out board and hoping to get a 4hp mower for the Frankenstein build. Not sure if it will fit such a small out board lower half. Great build. Thems ar going fr about 8-1000 bucks.🤑👍👍.

    • @Ivan-Archer
      @Ivan-Archer  5 років тому +1

      If you didn’t have to shorten it the rest is actually very straight forward and could be done in an afternoon if you assembled the bits before starting. The gear change being where it was helped a lot. Used it all summer without a hitch.

      I have a 1968 Evinrude 6 and it does the same. The mower project was more of ‘I wonder if that would work’ sort of day out. 😁😁
