"Smile" is their first love letter to their fans (the others are "About Us" and "Memorable"). The lyrics by Miku are about watching the audience from the stage. "Your smile makes me happy", "It's a special view". It's one of my all time favourite songs ever, by anyone. Maybe it wasn't a single because they didn't write the music, they asked one of their old writers, Kentaro Akutsu, to compose a track for them, because they really liked his compositions.
Thank goodness we don't have to choose between the acoustic and electric versions! Love 'em both. Like you said, this version is bright and happy and by God, it makes us...smile. The acoustic Day of Maid version makes most of us smile...while we wipe a tear from our eyes. It's precious. Thanks much, GMG! 🕊
No matter the acoustic version or this original one, it always gets me teary eyed, especially the bridge part. I guess Saiki was just made to sing that song.
I discovered the acoustic version first through UA-cam and then the album version. While I usually like live versions best, they were so different. The album version immediately gave me goosebumps and turned to my favourite song on the first listen, I rarely have that. The drum beat, the main guitar riff, the strings in the background - the sound is just so full and uplifting. I wish they'd play that version of the song at concerts. I think I would cry of joy.
Right, to speak of B-Side would be an insult. Simply an all-around excellent song that could have easily been on the album. And depending on my mood I like sometimes the original, sometimes the acoustic version more. :) Yep, that they can make multiple out of one song with the different arrangements with totally different feels is something that also amazes me again and again. And they have already done that with quite a few songs... I have no knowledge in songwriting, or I don't play any instrument, but I would give a lot to be able to be there once when the ladies create a song. _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. " A deep sadness is hidden there if you peel off any brightness" this statement is from a great writer who represents Japan and created modern Japanese he spoke about the characteristics of Japanese people and Japanese culture the two verson are like Janus,.the two ーfaced god these two different versons can express their complex emotions by combining them
One of the first things I notice between the two versions is the tempo. The Day of Maid version is slower and missing all the extra production. It allows the song to breathe and gives it a humanity that is just so emotional and, as you said, a little melancholy. When you consider the circumstances, suspending their touring activities, there's something so personal about it. They don't know me, they don't even speak my language. How the hell do they make me feel the happiness they have playing on stage and the sadness of missing it?
GMG i think it depends on what mood you're in to start with when you hear each version of Smile. EIther a feeling of triumph or a trace of sadness. It's similar to "Puzzle". In the electric you can hear hints of scorn & bitterness in Saiki's vocals but in the acoustic the perspective is of melancholy longing.🥲
I don't know which version I like better, they are both so different! Let me know your thoughts. Don't forget to Like and Subscribe! Check out the NEW Amazon links in the description!
@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook I kinda guessed you might be. I stick mainly to B-M but i've been keeping an eye on new band PaleNeø cos they have the awesome Yona on 6 string bass :)
This song is the key of E Minor, so it already has an emotional feel to it, but the studio version is more powerful with the strings of the backing track, and the acoustic version is more emotional!
Misa is doing her own thing as usual but what stands out to me is that Akane's drumming style on this is totally different to anything else by her which may be partly due to the snare sounding very different and she is very light on cymbals
Band-Maid doesn't have B sides. They have title tracks and they have songs that aren't title tracks but should be. If it isn't good enough for an A side, they won't record it.

B-M do love us as much as the Maidiacs love B-M, Kawaii Davey.🤗
@@GaryHolloway-810 Of course. It's impossible not to love us Gary! 🥰

Definitely the electric version ! One of the finest Band Maid songs ever ! Always gets a SMILE out of me !

This song was not composed by BAND-MAID, but Kentaro AKUTSU who composed Thrill in the early days.
Thanks!
I love this song so much!

There's three acoustic versions. One with just Saiki and Miku on a radio show.
