@Jen Luvs Reviews What's your thoughts on Hemp Seed Oil in lip balms? I've heard quite a few things about what it does for skin.. Just curious about what it does in a lip balm.
Carmex gave me lip blisters so I used it to soften my calluses. You can also use it for psoriasis spots. Or if your skin is problem free, use it as a foot cream but cover your feet with plastic wrap then socks. You don't want the camphor smell on your sheets. I ended up tossing my Carmex since I remembered I still had a bottle of lotion which smelled better, but if you don't mind the smell, use Carmex for feet.
Try Lipster, with 1% hydrocortisone. It is my Holy Grail. I'd never heard of it until I started doing my own research. It has healed my dry, cracked, peeling lips. It's online. It's like $7 a tube, I bought a 3pk for $16 or so. SO WORTH IT!
It's so funny, because I only use the cherry one, and it's missing at least one of the bad things. 😂 Carmex has BY FAR been the best lip product for me, and I've tried tons of these. (It doesn't dry my lips out as it fades, which I appreciate. And it saves my life during winter.) I find lip balm all so WAXY and they just sit on Philips for 20 minutes and wear off. Blistex, EOS, Chapstick... Shudders. I've been meaning to try the Aquaphor though.
This lady deserves so many subs! My father is a dermatologist so I get all my info from him, and have been using the Laroch-Posay one for years based on his suggestion. I usually find that most beauty gurus have little to no understanding of the actual science behind ingredients so it is very refreshing to see one who not only takes the time to understand it but also teaches it in such an accessible, easy to grasp way. Excellent video, interesting and useful. Also I love this accent! I'm a brit and find this accent so easy to listen to.
I'm confused. You can use the cicaplast baume [the 40ml or 100 ml one] on the lips?! But they have a lips version right? The 7.5 ml one. Which works better?
@@donutcare9680 same! The medicated one us great if my lips are peeling because the salicylic acid in it gets rid of the dead skin and helps my better natural lip balm be better absorbed. By itself tho, after a while it irritates my lips. I find that stayibg hydrated, eating a at least someone balanced diet (im not perfect lol) and sticking to natural lip balms (burtd bees, dionis, shea moisture) works best for me. I like carmex's spf lip balms tho! Especially the wintergreen stick one, that ones really moisturizing.
Carmex is really intended for cold sore treatment, and effective by drying them out . It’s not for everyone except for people who are prone to getting cold sores . Apply it on the edge of your lips at bedtime. It works for me . I just don’t use it all the time.
From an esthetician, this video is so informative and helpful. I’d love to see one of these videos for body washes and lotions with your top recommendations!
Karen1Nicola I love Dr Dray’s channel! Wish I had the time to watch all her videos. She actually gives you the facts and gets rid of all the myths. I stayed away from mineral oil, petrolatum, and parabens for over thirty years because I read that mineral oil and petroleum were by products of crude oil and caused cancer and also the parabens cause cancer. To make this story short, she literally said that this was not true and goes in length to explain why. Also she has an amazing personality. Sorry this is such a long comment but you made a great point and I agree with you 💯. Have a wonderful blessed holiday season!💯❤️👍🎄🙏🏼
@@cathygiuliana9089 I'm not thrilled with Dr Dray. She loves CeraVe cleanser and petrolatum based things and I'm allergic to both. CeraVe gave me a dermatitis rash all over my face and petrolatum gives me hives
@@slbarbieri1725 I watch some of her videos and while I do find her information helpful, I notice she does stick to liking the same products all of the time like Cera Ve. I like Cera Ve but I would like to see a larger variety of products. I also watched her lip balm video and found Jen's way more helpful and it covered a larger number of products for comparison. Dr. Dray suggested petrolatum for a good lip balm so I got some and like Jen noted it is protective but not healing. It made my badly chapped lips feel good for a little while but then they felt worse! I picked up Jen's recommendation of the First Aid lip balm and within 24 hrs my lips felt 90% better and a day later they were back to normal. I have NEVER had results like that before.
@@Amyjo_lovesmusic Tbose are affordable products bought at most drugstores and they have badic formulations without fluff or common irritants so many dermatologists recommend them brands.
I love lanolin! When I was breastfeeding my children I used lanolin to protect my nipples (sorry if that’s TMI) but my point is that it worked and it was safe for my babies. My daughter also had terrible chapped lips when she was a few months old and the lanolin took care of it quickly. I understand vegans may prefer to skip it but since I’m not a vegan I highly recommended it for other people like me.
When I was breastfeeding 18 years ago I used it too. And I ended up with chapped lips one day. And I was sitting there thinking, if this works on my chapped nipples then it should work on my chapped lips. So I used it. And the next day my lips were smooth! They went from cracked and bleeding to completely smooth! Overnight. Ever since then I've used it when my lips get too dry. And I tell everyone to get it. Some people look at me in disgust, as if I'm putting nipples on my lips lol. But I love the stuff!
It is good in some forms. My baby had infant eczema and through trial and error found that he was allergic to lanolin/lanolol based emolients. I couldn't even wear a jumper as it would flare his skin up. However I have used emollient with this and have found them to be great
I’ve tried like 3 different EOS lip balms and have hated them all. It drove me crazy I could never forgive out why people loved them. It’s at the bottom of my list.
After using the strawberry and mint flavors for a couple months I broke out in a really bad rash and my lips were so sore. I couldn't figure out what was causing it until my mother in law noticed how bad my lips looked and said it could be the lip balm that was using. I googled it and found that alot of people had the same experience I did. I never did figure out what was in it that gave me such a bad reaction. This happened a few years ago when they were new. I'm really careful now.
As someone who has very strong beliefs in the energies of certain stones... that’s just it. The things that stones can do aren’t really topical. You can use certain rocks to attract certain energies to you and dispel others from you, but you don’t need to rub them on your skin for these benefits, and there’s no reason to put them in skincare. It’s a whole gimmick as far as I’m concerned. I appreciate this video so much, thank you for working so hard to break things down!
This may be the most informative video you've ever made! And omgosh, watching all the words pop up on the screen I realized just how long it would've taken to edit. Thank you for going above and beyond to make a really helpful guide to lipbalms
I had a reaction also to eos it was several years ago and the first time I didn't know why my lips were bothering me they just seemed badly chapped...then when I took that balm on vacation and used it a few times I realized that was the cause. Googled and saw that others had the same issue so never bought it again. Bummer because I liked the fun shape.
Really? I started using it a few weeks ago(uncented) it it’s been good for me and I have been prone to dry lips. To me I think it’s really important to get a balm that’s unscented, that’s the thing I don’t get why company’s put scent or flavoring in a skin care product, quite dumb to me.
I can’t stand EOS lip balms. I used to buy them because they’re so cute and try to force myself to like them, but they don’t do a thing for my lips... Maybe make them feel drier if anything. Edit: I just got an EOS ad 🤔
I stopped using Eos when I couldn't keep them on my makeup tables. My cats kept knocking them off and they'd become cat toys. I'd find them underneath the bed, or dresser, or whatever months later...
I was glad to hear you stress that while some of the ingredients might be an issue for some people they aren’t for everyone. The fervor to brand certain ingredients as awful while not acknowledging that they work for many people with no issues at all happens a lot now.
Interesting fact: Jeffree Star Cosmetics Diet Shane lip balm is actually ingredient for ingredient Pat McGrath's Lip Fetish. Totally ripped off the formula. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying it's not an original formula.
My favorite is plain ol’ Aquaphor in the big tub. I have been a lip balm addict for thirty years. Aquaphor is the only thing that has made me stop reapplying every thirty minutes. My lips are plump and smooth.
Yeah, Aquaphor is the only thing that just totally takes away all discomfort when I have dry lips. Others feel nice, but Aquaphor gives me that “aaaaah!” feeling of relief.
I saw a Nars one for $37 on my sephora app on sale the other day. It got such good reviews because it was tinted as well. I mean come on though you're paying almost $40 for a tinted lip balm you can get a Walgreens for like a quarter of that price. Was so tempted to comment that the ppl giving it 5 stars were crazy!
I used it for a while all the way back in the 80's because everyone was raving about it then. But it never did anything better for my lips than just Chapstick, so I stopped buying it. :)
Carmex is the absolute DEVIL!! I used for years! It's a vicious cycle! Use it Cux you think is working, but it's making worse so you use more and so on and so on. Finally quit cold Turkey once I figured it out. I had to go through a week long period if severe white crusted dry lips. Very painful. Just kept them slathered in a mix of shea butter and Eucerin lotion. It was horrifying. Please save yourself the possible torture!
I used to like them, but they're so highly scented, my skin stopped liking them. I think I got sensitive to the fragrances. The lotions would also go off kind of quickly, the texture would get weird.
@@Zer0rchestra there's a gentleman named Hyram who is another UA-camr & reviews skincare products & did an entire breakdown of this brand. One of the best ways to hydrate you’re lips, you’re face, you’re body in general... drink water. The number one thing whenever someone tells me their lips are dry, they feel hungry after just eating or in general, they feel sore, they have a headache is "when was the last time you drank water?" With all these various flavored drinks, soft drinks, energy drinks etc. we forget about the main component of our body is just plain old water and we need it in more ways than one. So when in doubt drink a bottle of water and wait 20 minutes see if whats causing discomfort for you has been fixed. Also a lot of those flavored drinks put either sugar or salt in them both of which cause you to be more thirsty and dry you up in general.
This is the best thing I have watched all year. My husband is actually watching with me, because I have Lupus and he tries to keep up with what is best for me. Thank you for doing this research.
I swear by the Burt's bees ultra conditioning lip balm. That lip balm has kept my lips from cracking and bleeding through fevers and is brilliant on a sore nose when not well - amazing product that's only £3. On the note if healing ingredients the first ingredient on the list is "cocos nucifera oil" 💖
Natalie Noodles I’m a Burt’s bees original girl through and through...it’s basically the only one me and my kids have used since they were babies especially when we are sick or super chapped and cracked...it’s the most amazing one in my opinion I know for a fact it works phenomenal on us 😍
I had an allergic reaction to EOS. I've never had an allergic reaction to ANY lipbalm, makeup, or anything else I've applied to my body in my entire life.
So Jen didnt say she is a dermatologists but her content really shows how educated she is and is of same quality as coming from a derm. Loved both part one and two of the videos. Thanks Jen!
I cannot tell you how informative this is. As a mom of 3, I appreciate the time and effort you put into this! I now know what’s safe for my kids to use as well as myself! Thank you. 💗
I’m glad to hear that my Lip Smackers aren’t horrid for my lips. They’ve always worked well for me, and flavors don’t bother me. I have better luck with these than Burt’s Bees. Maybe my lips don’t like coconut oil.
That's been my staple since high school.... It's tasty and smoothing. It adds the perfect amount of sheer color for that "natural gal on the go" look... It's a slam dunk in my book
I'm totally team lanolin over here! Picked of two Bite beauty lip masks at half off black friday and NOT disappointed at all! I remember when breastfeeding my first born thinking, "Well if it's good for chapped nips... what will it do for my lips?" I thought it made a great balm 🤷♀️
Jessica Burke Bite are reformulating and removing lanolin to go vegan so beware when You repurchase it might not be the same if your in it for the lanolin.
They are pretty much the same. Some fancy skincare ingredients in some of the more expensive ones. Grade of the ingredients might be a bit better in the expensive ones (finer groung pigments f.ex.) but not necessarily. Maybe more time spent on honing the formula for the more expensive ones. Again not necessarily. The cost of the ingrediets does not explain the price difference really. Newer technologies can be more expensive if there is no competition for those ingredients. Most ingredients or even base formulations can be bought in bulk quite inexpensively. Brand and marketing are the main differences in price. Exceptions exist of course.
@@msprunella6358 exactly & when I see these more exotic, or 'rare' ingredients that tout skincare offerings I have to wonder why are they so far down the line? Or why some are jam packed in with well over 30+ ingredients, lessening the degree of effectiveness?
It is also good to note that although products may have the same ingredient there are a lot of ingredients that have varying qualities ie. a more expensive product (hopefully) uses a better quality version of that ingredient
I expected so much more from the LaNeige Lipmask and was pretty underwhelmed. Because a lot of Beauty Gurus highly recommended it I thought it’s like a miracle over night. But it’s nothing special. If i find the First aid one in 🇨🇭I give it a try.
I’ve actually been using the LaRoche- Posay Cicaplast to treat my facial redness and flaky skin around my nose. I didn’t even think to use it as a lip balm, so I’m gonna have to try that out now!
Bite beauty is taking Lanolin out of their products and reformulating them. Something to keep in mind that the formula might not be as good in the future. Depends what they substitute it with.
I absolutely hate my new Bite agave lip balm without the lanolin. I don't know what else changed with the formula in order to perhaps stabilize or bind, but it's terrible...slippy and sticky and doesn't give me a good base for lip color like the old formula. 😩😩😩
Lanolin is a very cruel animal product, look it up. Bite Beauty is becoming a 100% vegan company 🌱💙 I think Lanolips has built a whole lip line on lanolin and they're available at Sephora too, if you really want it
This video was amazing, Jen, thanks for the hard work! I have been a faithful user of the Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lip Therapy for years!!! I've tried the high end stuff like the Dior Creme de Rose lip balm, the Fresh balms, the Jouer Lip Enhancer Balm, the Laniege sleeping mask, the Tarte Quench Lip Rescue Balm, the Sephora brand balm etc, I could go on and on, and I've always gone back to the Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lip Therapy. Nothing beats it, and it's around $2.40 or so. I've found that a lot of these higher end balms are a lot of pretty packaging with no special, magical ingredients. The Eos balms are also great, I just find the Vaseline one stays on my lips way longer, and works so well as a lip treatment overnight. Try it, you won't be sorry!
@Amanda Beth I was so disappointed in Laneige. I only used it a few times and it did nothing. All the reviews convinced me to buy it. Still searching for a cure. Also need lipstick but will settle for balm first.
Yes! I had actually looked at the ingredients of mine awhile back and wasnt seeing a lot of ingrediebts that i actually know are good, so i already had doubts about its effectiveness but this confirms it. I wonder about the ingredients in their sleepong mask as well. Its just doesnt seem very moisturizing or hydrating to me. Idk.
This is the best video I’ve watched this year! Information on each ingredient, breakdown of each product, and price per ounce was great. And most of all, dispelling the myth that more expensive equals better. Thank you 😊
This is honestly the most comprehensive and helpful beauty video I've seen. I'd love more like this on other products. I always feel so overwhelmed and literally clueless when it comes to choosing products so literally cant tell you how much these kind of videos help me lol
As someone who is into the "hokey pokey" stuff, I would never use the La Mer balm (regardless of price), as malachite is a toxic stone. It is safe to handle specimens but not to put into drinking water or mining/cutting it, due to high copper content.
I've been watching DIY videos on how to make lotions & infused oils & how to incorporate them as well as a few lotion bars. Not far off from lip balm & I'm curious, what's your preference & process like please?
@@MsButterflysting My base is beeswax and shea butter. I use almond oil, Vitamin E and a little glycerin. I have used coconut oil too. I just keep trying to make it better with each new batch. I dont make alot at a time so it gives me a chance to change things up.
I had a terrible reaction to an EOS product, literally had my skin around my lips as well as my lips peeling due to some bad reaction. 👎🏼 I believe I have seen other reviews like mine before.
I wouldnt say any lip balm with fragrance is good even if it does have healing and protecting ingredients as well. Surely the fact that it has irritating ingredients makes it bad. Dr dray says to avoid eos and all fragrance in lip balm.
I'm allergic to sunflower seed oil and when using EOS lip product Ive had a similar reaction to what you described it might be a good idea to check that out.
I had the exact experience and it took about three months of using them before my lips reacted really badly. This was back when they first started coming out a few years ago. I'm really careful of what I use now. I never did figure out what was in them that my lips reacted to. I'm glad I came across this comment. Probably was the flavor and fragrance.
Google “Natural Flavors as an ingredient.” Can be deceptive - be aware. Natural flavors are not always what you would expect or perhaps take for granted would be- Very little restrictions on being able to use that label on a product .
Yeppers, they can claim since some are plant based & not synthetic: linalool, citronel, geronial, all of these that cause issues. Although, I don't think vanillin should be counted against & I like it as an ingredient.
As a lip balm addict, I found this freaking fascinating! My personal go-to’s are the Bite Beauty Agave Nighttime Therapy (I like it a little more than the mask for the consistency) & the Aquaphor Healing Ointment (not the one specifically for lips, just the big ole’ tube)
I was screaming. I was like "Please just tell me if I can continue using my Vaseline or not?!?!??!" And it made it on the good list and I cannot begin to describe the wave of relief. Thanks Jen for the hardwork!
OMG! This explains why my lips have been so dry since using the Burt's Bees overnight lip treatment. Contains peppermint oil and fragrance 😱 Jen thank you for the intensive research and amazing presentation.
I got a small tub in one of my sub boxes.. I had such high hopes after reading its claims... in the end it was simply a cherry scented waxy balm that looked glossy over liquid lipsticks. It did nothing to help me.
Burts Bees and Aquaphor Girl here 🙋🏻♀️. I’ve tried to branch out and I decided I’m sticking to these. Aquaphor healed my cracked bleeding lips 🙌🏽 EDIT: might try the Sun Bum
I get eczema on my lips and Burt's Bees is literally the ONLY thing (besides a steroid cream prescribed by my doctor) I found that healed my lips and it honestly doesn't matter what fragrance they put in them, they all work for me.
Thank you for this video!!! I would love it if when you talk about allergens that you mention tree nuts and sesame as major allergens. Tree nuts and soy are in the top 7 allergens world wide, sesame can be life threatening too for people with that allergy. I love that you mentioned that sesame was in it. I have an extremely hard time finding lip balms that won't send my son to the ER. I even have to be careful about the skincare that I use myself if it's something that he might come in contact with. I think that when you have food allergies you focus so much on what you eat, but we forget to think about the things we put on our face sometimes.
I tried both the laneige lip mask and the FAB ultra repair lip therapy for the first time within the past 2 month, and there's zero comparison to me. Laneige wins my vote. I received a mini laneige lip mask in the "give me more lip" set and I was mind-blown at how fast and effective it was at repairing and moisturizing my lips. It literally only been taking one night's use to fix my dry chapped lips - and it has worked consistently for me. I've been using it sparingly because of Christmas budgeting, but I 1000000% plan on buying a full-size as I see the price as super reasonable for how amazing it worked for me. I saw this review shortly after trying laneige while waiting for my FABlantis box set to come in the mail, and was excited by the idea of the FAB ultra repair lip therapy being a dupe, especially as I've loved every FAB product I've tried... up until trying this product. Three days of FAB lip therapy dried out my lips, and I had to use laneige to fix it lol. I have zero intention of trying FAB lip therapy again as it did nothing to help and made my lips worse than if I had applied nothing. I hate FAB's lip therapy applicator - the consistency is super thick and it's hard and awkward to squeeze out of the tube, and it feels gross and sticky on my lips and is minty. Obviously, everyone is different and not every product will work on everyone the same, but the results I've been getting from Laneige's lip mask have me sold and I fully plan on buying full-size as soon as my mini size runs out (it's gonna save my lips from canadian winter!)
Great review. I have ridiculously dry lips and have used so many medicated lip balms in the past - I’m looking at you Blistex and Carmex. Aaaarrrggghhh! My current favourites are Kiehls Buttermask for Lips and MediK8 Mutiny Lip Balm. I also just bought a tube of the LRP lip balm, and it is lovely and soothing. I think I’m finally on the path to healthy, hydrated, happy lips! 👄😍 Kiehls Buttermask ingredients: Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Shea Butter, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil, Cera Alba/Beeswax, Ricinus Communis Seed Oil/Castor Seed Oil, Candelilla Cera/Candelilla Wax, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter/Cocoa Seed Butter, Jojoba Esters, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil/Jojoba Seed Oil, Octyldodecanol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Cera/Sunflower Seed Wax, Irvingia Gabonensis Kernel Butter, Aqua/Water, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Salix Nigra Bark Extract/Willow Bark Extract, Tocopherol, Acacia Decurrens Flower Cera/Acacia Decurrens Flower Wax, Polyglycerin-3, Sorbic Acid, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Citric Acid.
Not only is petrolatum ultra refined, it’s a byproduct of the industry. So... if you drive a car, there’s no environmental reason to avoid petrolatum or mineral oil.
I've been using the Kiehl's Buttermask for nighttime and it's even more amazing than I thought! Shea Butter/Coconut Oil/Beeswax/Castor Seed Oil/Candelilla Wax/Cacao Seed Butter/Jojoba Esters are the first ingredients. 😯😍😯

That really is the best I've tried so many, but that's the one that actually makes my lips feel brand new. All the others make my lips dry af in the center.
Great video! I've only really started caring about the efficacy of all my skin care within the past few years, and it's nice to see influencers who actually care about scientific evidence. Thank you for the time and effort put into this video, and for not participating in the fear mongering that's common among beauty gurus. Also, if someone is looking for very cheap, effective lip balm, I'd definitely recommend regular Aquaphor Healing Ointment (not the lip balm version). Also, the CeraVe Healing Ointment. Neither are technically lip balms, but both are thick ointments that contain protecting and healing ingredients with none of the irritants. To enhance the protection at night, apply whichever balm you're using to slightly damp lips.
Thanks for the very useful info Jen! I usually don't leave comments on youtube but decided to make an exception because you brought up a subject i'm intrigued about: lip scrubs. I think the skin on our lips is sensitive enough and we try so hard to protect it, so why attack it with a scrub? I know exfoliation is very important, i do it daily and if i skip it in a morning then i will have a dried layer of skin that will bother me all day. That being said, i don't see the point of using a scrub when you can remove skin in a very easy and stress free way: step 1: use your favorite healing lipbalm before you go to sleep, apply a generous layer, step 2: in the morning wash your face and teeth as you normally would but use warm water during or to rinse your mouth after brushing step 3: when finishing the face cleaning process your mouth should be wet and warm (from the warm water) - use your index finger to gently rub your lips. The gentle "scrubbing" helped by the combination of leftover lipbalm and warm water will cause the top dead skin layer to just come off pain free and hassle free. I discovered this "trick" by accident years ago and have used it every day since. Don't recommend trying with cold water, the skin won't come off easy. Also, don't rub too hard, the dead skin should have a different texture than the healthy skin underneath, so use your senses and experiment. If this tip helps anyone please let me know, it's been so helpful for me, i'm really curious if anyone else already does this or tries it and it works.
I just use pure lanolin as lip balm. I noticed through hand creams that my skin loooooves lanolin. I get a large tube of 100% pure lanolin in the form of nipple cream for unter $5 on amazon. Works amazing, lasts ages, and it actually looks really pretty and glossy too.
In place of using an actual lip scrub, what I do is put on a lip balm and let it soak in for a bit and then take a tooth brush I have set aside for this purpose and use it to scrub gently the lip balm off my lips. The lip balm softens the lips and makes it easier to remove the dead dry skin. I’ve been doing that for years and it makes my lips soft and smooth for the day. 😊
I'm glad it works for you because I bought one and I experienced the same thing Jen described. Too bad cause the price point was in my happy place, lol. It's so weird how a product works for one person yet doesn't for another. Enjoy your scrub... 👍

Amanda Lopez you miss are my hero of the day!!
Immediately liked when she said “the bod doesn’t understand bougie” ain’t that the truth
Who wants a part 3 🙋. I want to see more ingredient analysis on more lip balms. So interesting to me.
Why does this not have more likes!!
jacqueline lata me!
jacqueline lata yes!
I'd also like to know if these balms are much better then just using Vasaline/petroleum jelly or just a regular moisturizer?
I would love a break down like this on skin care
Sitting here with my 9 carmex lip balms I just purchased and contemplating what I’m doing with my life.
Mari Niland i am so sad because that laroch posay didn’t work for me
Which one do you use?
Do you use the regular la roche posay baume (the one she linked to), or do you use the cicaplast baume for lips?
ty so muchhhhh this helps me so muchhh
I'm confused. You can use the cicaplast baume [the 40ml or 100 ml one] on the lips?! But they have a lips version right? The 7.5 ml one. Which works better?
I so appreciate that instead of just telling us the best and worst, you explained why so that we can then make smart decisions on our own. Thank you!!
I couldn't agree more @Sydney Owens. Jen is the best! I might be switching from my Aquaphor to Vaseline....
Yes !!
Why Jen is one of the two beauty gurus i still follow her and Taylor Wynn, Jen gives the info Taylor gives back.

I tell people all the time that Carmax is so so bad, that it actually dries your lips out. No one ever believes me because they are hooked on it. Ugh
Clarissa Brinkman it helps me if I use it only seldom.
This was the worst one I’ve ever used. My lips arnt sensitive but no other lip balm has dried out my lips like this one.
I use carmax for cold sores. It keeps them from coming on when I feel one. Other then that I use other lip product for chapped lips.
From an esthetician, this video is so informative and helpful. I’d love to see one of these videos for body washes and lotions with your top recommendations!
Sydney Rossi yessssss I’m always wondering when I washing up what I’m putting on my body.
Love to see someone dispelling the fear mongering on ingredients such as parabens, petrolatum, etc. Great video. 👌
@@karen1nicola Love Dr Dray! She is amazing and has changed my entire skin routine!
Love the way the yays and nays are up while you’re talking about each product, that’s super helpful- Thanks for doing this so thoughtfully!
agreed!! Very nice to visually see it!
I like that, too. Though I find it funny that the Yucks are in green and the good are in red :D
Yes!! So helpful! Really helps you keep track of how many pros and and cons each balm has.
Yes, so good for those of us who are visual learners 😘
My boyfriend just asked me why I screamed. IT’S BECAUSE THE LIP BALM VIDEO DROPPED 🤩💖
However I have used emollient with this and have found them to be great
Many people are allergic to lanolin, I am.
I still use the nipple lanolin from medela for my lips lol
i know about brand called lanolips. definitely would recommend! it has fun flavours and works sooo good
jen: lets start with the worst ones, blistex medicated lip balm
me: *glares at the blistex medicated lip balm right beside me*
The blistex mint is my second fav lip balm because of the tingle. 🫣
Not enough videos out there about lip balm ingredients. Haven't finished the video yet but have a like 👍
I’ve tried like 3 different EOS lip balms and have hated them all. It drove me crazy I could never forgive out why people loved them. It’s at the bottom of my list.
Winter's Beauty same
Winter's Beauty yup me too
After using the strawberry and mint flavors for a couple months I broke out in a really bad rash and my lips were so sore. I couldn't figure out what was causing it until my mother in law noticed how bad my lips looked and said it could be the lip balm that was using. I googled it and found that alot of people had the same experience I did. I never did figure out what was in it that gave me such a bad reaction. This happened a few years ago when they were new. I'm really careful now.
my lips didnt like eos either. they all tasted and smelled weird too
Same
My lips have never felt drier while watching a video
Lol me too 🤣
😂😂😂
Can you do a video like this for lotions? My man hands need it.
i would like to see this for shampoos and conditioners
Me too. I loved the one Sally Hansen had. Have not one since.
Me too. My dad has psoriasis, it would be good to know which is better for him.
Cerave and Derasil
As someone who has very strong beliefs in the energies of certain stones... that’s just it. The things that stones can do aren’t really topical. You can use certain rocks to attract certain energies to you and dispel others from you, but you don’t need to rub them on your skin for these benefits, and there’s no reason to put them in skincare. It’s a whole gimmick as far as I’m concerned. I appreciate this video so much, thank you for working so hard to break things down!
videos like this are why I subscribed to Jen over 2 yrs ago. No other channel puts out good informative content like this ❤

This may be the most informative video you've ever made! And omgosh, watching all the words pop up on the screen I realized just how long it would've taken to edit. Thank you for going above and beyond to make a really helpful guide to lipbalms
I loved this type of video.
I personally did not like the EOS brand, those dried my lips out more.
Same here for EOS. I tried two different ones and my lips got worse.
I had an allergic reaction to EOS - my lips flaked, got itchy and cracked. Never again.
Can you do a video like this for hand and body creams !? Which are the best for hydrating ?
I can’t stand EOS lip balms. I used to buy them because they’re so cute and try to force myself to like them, but they don’t do a thing for my lips... Maybe make them feel drier if anything. Edit: I just got an EOS ad 🤔
eos doesn’t work for me either. Makes my lips red around them, no matter which one I try.
I never liked EOS either but really wanted to.
They dry mine out too!!
I damaged my lips from using EOS. it's apparently a known thing for that company. they've never fully recovered
I stopped using Eos when I couldn't keep them on my makeup tables. My cats kept knocking them off and they'd become cat toys. I'd find them underneath the bed, or dresser, or whatever months later...
The real lesson here: we all been paying too much money for fancy-schmancy Vaseline 😂
I like the old $1 Vaseline lip therapy in the tube. :)
Vaseline doesnt moisturize or heal
Nah but it does keep the moist in
@@AClutterFreeLife the cocoa butter version does, I've been using it for years, it's fantastic.
@@AClutterFreeLife yes it does. Watch Dr. Dray she is a dermatologist.
Yet JS complains about how nearly EVERYONE rips of his ideas... 🤦
Wow good find
Could be the same factory!
$65 for lip balm?! Here I was thinking my $17 lanolips was a bougie choice.
Lanolips is pricey to me as well but I love it!
My bougie lip balms are the laneige lip mask and the fresh lemon balm lol.
Yeah, Fresh $25 with 40% off ($15) was pricey for me. And yup. Maybe I should just go with Vaseline.
I've been using that but I can't tell if it's helping or not. Lol
I almost bought Carmex because it was listed as one of the best lip balms out there. This is my face when I think of who made that list 😒
I used it for a while all the way back in the 80's because everyone was raving about it then. But it never did anything better for my lips than just Chapstick, so I stopped buying it. :)
My husband loves carmex. It took two years to wean him off of camphor in lip products
I’ve used so many different brand and carmex is the only one that works for my lips so I donno if I should trust my body or science lol
Kino z you and the rest of my family. I never got it, since it doesn’t do much for my lips
I'd love to hear about some Bath and Body works products if that's something you're interested in reviewing :) Love your channel!
Yeah, that would be awesome. It's such an Iconic brand and it would be so cool to do a deep dive on the ingredients.
Aren't they all super scented?
I used to like them, but they're so highly scented, my skin stopped liking them. I think I got sensitive to the fragrances. The lotions would also go off kind of quickly, the texture would get weird.
@@Zer0rchestra there's a gentleman named Hyram who is another UA-camr & reviews skincare products & did an entire breakdown of this brand. Apparently, they realized the fragrance issue, but in the 'sensitive line,' still have questionable ingredients. I learned a lot about the background of them in that video too.
@@MsButterflysting I'm super interested in watching that video! Can you share a link please? I haven't been able to find it on his channel :S
That’s a myth that it’s hydrates your skin, I’ve got dry skin and I drink lots of water, water helps but only the for the inside of your body.
THE JACK BLACK IS MY FAVORITE!!!! I’ve tried them all and I swear by it.

Natalie Noodles I’m a Burt’s bees original girl through and through...it’s basically the only one me and my kids have used since they were babies especially when we are sick or super chapped and cracked...it’s the most amazing one in my opinion I know for a fact it works phenomenal on us 😍
I'm using the store-brand version - same ingredients. Works a treat! Especially after the Sun Bum SPF lip balm ruined my lips...
Burt's Bees Honey 4LYFE! 😆
thats my balm i live on if you use it with the clarins lip oil even better
I'm a burts bees honey for life and it's soooo good!

I did as well over time.. it was scaly and painful

I’m glad to hear that my Lip Smackers aren’t horrid for my lips. They’ve always worked well for me, and flavors don’t bother me. I have better luck with these than Burt’s Bees. Maybe my lips don’t like coconut oil.
Burt's Bees has lanolin in it.

Am I the only that ppl laugh at me bc I buy it everytime?? Then TATA CARMEX BAD LIP BALM !!
Jessica Burke omg yes! I used my nipple butter on my lips all the time when my son was a newborn 😂😂
Jessica Burke Bite are reformulating and removing lanolin to go vegan so beware when You repurchase it might not be the same if your in it for the lanolin.

@@tinaclarkson ooh! Good to know! Glad I snagged two then!
Lanolin is also a common allergen unfortunately :/ personally I'm glad they're taking it out. I've had to avoid many lip balms for that reason
This makes me want to see comparison of ingredients of drug store and high end foundation
Good idea! I’d love to see those comparisons. Heck, I’d love to see more comparison videos for other makeup products in general
It is also good to note that although products may have the same ingredient there are a lot of ingredients that have varying qualities ie. a more expensive product (hopefully) uses a better quality version of that ingredient
@@msprunella6358 yes I think that needs acknowledging in a video! But it's hard to know unless the company discloses it I think?
And thanks for the tip on first aid beauty! I'm digging the Laneige, but welcome a less expensive alternative!
Carenel is a slightly cheaper dupe for laneige, I got that tip from the beauty breakdown UA-cam channel ❤
I expected so much more from the LaNeige Lipmask and was pretty underwhelmed. Because a lot of Beauty Gurus highly recommended it I thought it’s like a miracle over night. But it’s nothing special. If i find the First aid one in 🇨🇭I give it a try.
I actually sat down with my HUSBAND for this one. He was interested where chap stick fell on the list. Thank you for this. Such a great video!!
I was so bummed to find this out! I snagged 6 of them when they were on sale for $6.50. It's been my holy grail lip product for years!
I absolutely hate my new Bite agave lip balm without the lanolin. I don't know what else changed with the formula in order to perhaps stabilize or bind, but it's terrible...slippy and sticky and doesn't give me a good base for lip color like the old formula. 😩😩😩
Carrie Meadows I don’t know why they didn’t keep the lanolin for those that like it and then make a vegan formula for those that don’t want it.
Lanolin is a very cruel animal product, look it up. Bite Beauty is becoming a 100% vegan company 🌱💙 I think Lanolips has built a whole lip line on lanolin and they're available at Sephora too, if you really want it
I'm allergic to lanolin so I'm grateful lol
It's important for me to be a smart consumer as I'm still going through school. Thanks for helping with that Jen!
This isn’t the content I thought I wanted. But I definitely NEEDED.
I love the Dr. Bronner's Naked Organic Lip Balm. It's just Avocado Oil, Beeswax, Jojoba oil, Hemp Seed oil, and Tocopherol.
Dionis lip balm from Ulta is my favorite:
Beeswax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Flavor, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Goat Milk, Ammonium Glycyrrhizinate
Thank you!!! This now on my list to try!!!
I had a feeling Laneige was over hyped, it did nothing for me, just sits on the lips and does nothing.
Amanda Beth same! Fortunately I was able to get a sample at Sephora and does make my lips soft in the morning but that’s essentially it.
Same. Not a fan at all. It also didn’t stick to the lips and would wipe off super easily. So if I drank water, I’d have to reapply.
That sucks. I get nice texture and moisture in the am from Laneige. I can’t wear lanolin or mint!
It is safe to handle specimens but not to put into drinking water or mining/cutting it, due to high copper content.
...reaching for a tissue to wipe off the Carmex that is currently on my lips as I watch Jen break down how bad it is for my lips....
I make my own lip balm so this gives me some great ideas to add some more healing ingredients!

Update: found a small trial-size container of the Vaseline with cocoa butter. So far so good! :) Thanks for all you do to help your viewers.
For so many years, lipbalm was making my lips worse. I hadn't realized it was allergens/irritants. What a difference when I eliminated those!
I had a terrible reaction to an EOS product, literally had my skin around my lips as well as my lips peeling due to some bad reaction. 👎🏼 I believe I have seen other reviews like mine before.
I had problems with EOS as well.
Yes it made my chapped lips worse. I tried two different ones and it was the same thing.
Google “Natural Flavors as an ingredient.”
Can be deceptive - be aware.
Natural flavors are not always what you would expect or perhaps take for granted would be-
Very little restrictions on being able to use that label on a product .
Yeppers, they can claim since some are plant based & not synthetic: linalool, citronel, geronial, all of these that cause issues. Although, I don't think vanillin should be counted against & I like it as an ingredient.
You talking about the anal gland beaver flavoring stuff?
Also interestingly enough some natural flavors (like vanilla, peppermint, etc) are known irritants.
When you've juust applied carmex to your lips then hear about the phenol O_o 😂
I got a gift pack of 6 soda flavored lip smackers and I used up 5 out of 6, I really loved them, they worked very well for me 💕
Ok 1) I have never clicked on a video so fast after going live😂😂
2) that necklace is so cute!!!!!
Me too!!!
My favorite is the physicians Formula lip treatment and using this video to look at the ingredients, it looks pretty good I think!
OMG! This explains why my lips have been so dry since using the Burt's Bees overnight lip treatment. Contains peppermint oil and fragrance 😱 Jen thank you for the intensive research and amazing presentation.
Can someone explain to me why the Laneige is so expensive? Ingredients don’t seem anything special🤷🏾♀️
Adrian yup me too. I use their mint cocoa one that comes out every season and I love it but I swore it made my lips dry and it does!
Naira Bee packaging. Laneige is a low mid-range brand in Korea but did really well repackaging itself as higher end for the US market.
I’m allergic to the burts bees balm. Every flavor I’ve tried makes my lips burn and then the outline of my lips go bright red.
You HAVE to do this with moisturizers !
I’ve wondered why Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask doesn’t make a difference on my lips.. lol
Michaela Specketer Same! I was so disappointed
I returned it.
I got a small tub in one of my sub boxes.. I had such high hopes after reading its claims... in the end it was simply a cherry scented waxy balm that looked glossy over liquid lipsticks. It did nothing to help me.
Ugh I couldn’t agree with u more
It just sits on top of the lips, does literally nothing apart from being an occlusive layer
So excited for this, I recently found your channel and you might be my new favorite. I've been (im)patiently waiting for part 2 since you did part 1.
Burts Bees and Aquaphor Girl here 🙋🏻♀️. I’ve tried to branch out and I decided I’m sticking to these. Aquaphor healed my cracked bleeding lips 🙌🏽
EDIT: might try the Sun Bum
CeraVe has an amazing lip ointment too
Nicole Courtney I love Cerave products! I’ll have to try that ointment too!
Kiehls Buttermask ingredients:
Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Shea Butter, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconut Oil, Cera Alba/Beeswax, Ricinus Communis Seed Oil/Castor Seed Oil, Candelilla Cera/Candelilla Wax, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter/Cocoa Seed Butter, Jojoba Esters, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil/Jojoba Seed Oil, Octyldodecanol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Cera/Sunflower Seed Wax, Irvingia Gabonensis Kernel Butter, Aqua/Water, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Salix Nigra Bark Extract/Willow Bark Extract, Tocopherol, Acacia Decurrens Flower Cera/Acacia Decurrens Flower Wax, Polyglycerin-3, Sorbic Acid, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Citric Acid.
Ooh that sounds awesome! I’ll have to look for that one!
I love the Kiehl’s lip balm! It has a ton of Squalane in it and my skin just LOVES squalane! @jenluvsreviews thank you for this awesome overview. Now I know why some don’t work for me-I’m allergic to sunflower seeds! 🌻 I never thought to look for it in lip balm! Thank you for your hard work!
That really is the best
I've tried so many, but that's the one that actually makes my lips feel brand new.
That being said, i don't see the point of using a scrub when you can remove skin in a very easy and stress free way:
step 1: use your favorite healing lipbalm before you go to sleep, apply a generous layer,
step 2: in the morning wash your face and teeth as you normally would but use warm water during or to rinse your mouth after brushing
step 3: when finishing the face cleaning process your mouth should be wet and warm (from the warm water) - use your index finger to gently rub your lips.
Sechari been doing this for a couple years, only thing that’s ever worked so well for me. I use it on mine and my kids eczema too!
I need to try this!
Elf lip scrub in the lipstick tube is my favorite there is alot of grit to it but it works so well
I'm glad it works for you because I bought one and I experienced the same thing Jen described. Too bad cause the price point was in my happy place, lol. It's so weird how a product works for one person yet doesn't for another. Enjoy your scrub... 👍
@@eddiemartinez1364 oh dang really. I love mine it is super crazy how some do. Mine actually has almost to much of the grains in it but I love mine lol
@@eddiemartinez1364 I've made my own and it works good with sugar and coconut oil and put it in the freezer so it gardens up I added a bit of vanilla for flavor and it works real well also
I love mine, but I use it after I’ve put my cocoa butter Vaseline lip therapy on and let that sink In for a while. Then I wipe any excess off and use my elf scrub in the lipstick tube to really get in there and scrub away any dead/dry flakiness. And then reapply the Vaseline and go to sleep. I wake up in the morning and my lips feel like brand new!!!
YES!! I prefer a lip scrub in a lipstick tube as well.... I'm loving on the Revlon one.
I just started watching your videos this week omg 😰 I've been using carmax before bed for 20 freaking years straight. I literally mean every night. The information you give is so educational and your easily becoming one of my favorite channels!
@CynicalPiscean I have since stopped using carmex. Honestly I'm glad I did because I use way less chapstick throughout the day now. Sometimes I don't even need it which is unheard of for me.
Omg you know the names of the ingredients, what those names actually mean, so thorough
Love this video, its perfect timing with the upcoming winter months. Could you do a video in the future on body lotions and creams?
love how when you mentioned Burt’s bees I was just thinking how I used to love the original but after I realized that minty lip balms were not it for me. I recently have been loving the mango one though so I was delighted to hear you mention it as a good one! It gives a nice glossy sheen and is so nice.
Jen: Here are the best and worst lip balms. Me: taking careful notes. Thanks, Jen! You are one of the best out there!
Me: *throws away 90% of lip balms*
As a lip balm collector, This vid is so helpful!!!
BEST CHAPSTICK/LIP BALM video ever!!!! Thank you SO much!!!
I'm literally wearing that Carmex lip balm right now.....dang. I need to go to the store now lol. Thanks for video!
me too. I put it on about 5 minutes before I started watching the video.
Same, I looked at the ingredients and mine doesn't have phenol. And I have a squeeze tub and a chapstick version.
🙋🏼♀️
Me too me too. And my lips were burning
Carmex is love!
😍😍😍I've been waiting for this!!! Yay
😂😂😂I see you CYA n the first few seconds LOL. Very smart, the rules seem confusing 😱
Hoping you touch on Burt's Bees...I really hope its a good product...I am addicted. And a tube lasts me 2 to 3 weeks max, I always finish them and never lose them. I use a new one til it is gone. And if I don't have a replacement ahead of time I dig out that extra product down at the bottom 🤦 yup I sure do 😂
You speak with such confidence I would never know if you said that Olive Oil Unsap.... Word. 😂😂😂
Thank you for sharing 💜💜💜
Regardless of the ingredients being different, I'm definitely switching to one of the good ones! I'm so glad you did this video, Jen! Bye bye Carmex 👍
Time to clean out my lipbalm collection and get some of the recommended stuff. Thanks for this! My lips always struggle during the winter.
