Burt's bees lip balm is my favoriteeeeee, it has beeswax, vitamin e and peppermit oil that makes your lips kind of tingle

I’ve heard bees wax is kinda the same deal as petroleum, protects but doesn’t a hydrate. I personally hated them 😣
Casey Alice yes, I think that's true, but it has a bunch of other nourishing ingredients to soothe, and the beeswax is just to protect from further chapping.
My Mum always made a diy lip balm! She uses bees wax, shea butter, argan, coconut, avocado and almond oil!

Levy Kim Sometimes when you buy lip balm kits for kids, (yes, I know😂) trash the flavoring and color and shimmer and just used the wax, shea butter and oil. I know, kinda a waste of money, BUT easy to find at Target or a craft store. PLUS, you can make multiple. In fact, I checked on Amazon, where there is a deal for a Project Mc2 lip balm kit for $5.29 with a wax base and wax chips, and the lip balm tubes. You can make five of them. For the oil, just add some olive oil or sunflower seed oil from your kitchen! Hope this is helpful. Have a good day or night!!

I feel that using EOS made my lips worse? It made my lips dryer over all- which is so weird.
Omg yes same!! I put it on and it feels good then like 2 minutes later it's dry and crusty someone said it has alcohol or skemthing in it not sure though but now I usr burtsbees and at the beggining it was abit dry but now my lips are super soft highly recommend!
For me it doesn't do anything it acts like Vaseline on my lips

It's actually pretty shitty, but most lip balms actually dry out the lip, and then only provide temporary relief. So you get worse, and think that that product is what's saving you, so you keep buying it. Get some heavy duty stuff, or oil, I've found that bio oil (for scars) wierdly works so so well. Or make your own, melt a few of your favourites together with a scented oil, that works great and you can customise the colour :)
try coconut oil based balms. or even just coconut oil

baby girl yeah the treat lip balm is amazing for dry lips, I have super dry lips too and it really helps. The watermelon is my favorite flavor personally.
Have you found one? I use the Palmers cocoa butter formula one (the original one) in the morning and the Neutrogena lip repair balm at night (the petroleum jelly formula). Balance is everything
My brother went through a 3 year period where his lips and the skin around his mouth were super chapped and no other lip balm worked so my doctor gave him a tub of aquaphor and in like 6 months his lips were back to normal. My favorite is burts bees though.

Petrolatum as an occlusive is great for your lips, you just have to hydrate them first. Drink a lot of water or use a hydrating toner on them first. Application won't make them instantly hydrated, but prevents transepidermal water loss which is extremely important in dry climates.

Since petroleum creates a barrier, people also use it as a ‘cuticle oil’ since it makes it seem like you applied cuticle oil. Personally I use Vaseline since about four years ago my lips became dry all f a sudden. After a month or two my lips were back to normal, so I put a thick layer on and around my lips before going to sleep, but I use the blue pot blistex when I’m out.
But is it true that it makes your lips dark?..

I actually really like petroleum jelly. I used to have a terrible problem with picking at my lips until they were raw and constantly burning. My lips would be a wreck (crusty and ugly af) after and putting Vaseline on would fix them within 24 hours. Even now, I often put a thick layer on my lips before bed and wake up to them being super soft, which will last all day. But to each their own 😊

Yeahh, I didn't really agree with her assessment of Vaseline. Lots of people online rag on it because of the popularity of fancier moisturising ingredients that give people their preferred, softer finishes, but petroleum jelly is what was recommended to me by a doc after I had a very painful scabby dry lips episode and I've been using it ever since because its barrier effect is incredibly effective. Plus it doesn't really need to be reapplied constantly like a lot of other balms tbh.

I also went through a stage in life where I had the worst lips ever. Everyone at school kept saying that I had a blonde mustache but I never knew why?
But I turned to Vaseline and it actually healed my lips in a instant! I do recommend trying Vaseline because if you went through the same stage as me It would heal your lips in a priceless amount of time.
Same. I have a really really dry lips and nothing works better than vaseline. I tried other options, but nothing can help soften my otherwise chapped lips. I just apply thin layer in the morning and I like to reapply it after lunch. Thick layer before bed, and I will wake up with a smooth lips.

I loved the balm dot com at first but have started to notice that as soon as it has worn off my lips they're back to feeling super dry again. This all makes sense. Think I'll switch back to my good old Burt's Bees Mango Lip Balm for the overnight, and use the glossier during the day to guard against the nasty midwestern US windchill. I learned something new from your video (as always!)

dear Matilda, now almost 3 years later I would love a new lip balm/skin salve product pile vid, especially as we are now moving into the cold dry months here in the northern hemisphere. My lips are hanging on, but I can already feel it's coming. My current fave lip salve is from Decubal, a local Scandi brand.

I use original vaseline (petroleum jelly) on my lips and to me it stays on really long and it always moisturises my lips and makes my lips soft. I don't know if the ingredients r different in other countries, but I live in England. 😊

BURTS BEES LIP BALMS!!!!! Do not sleep on those beauties, my lips constantly get too used to products' ingredients and the hydration stops working after a few months but never with Burt'a Bees. They have multiple flavors, tint shades, and targeted concern balms for any need or want. I highly recommend them. They also contain linalol and DO NOT have any petroleum.

I love spoiling myself with expensive lip balm but the difference between the Dior Rouge and Jo Malone is so crazy. I really like the Jo Malone one as it actually feel moisturizing on your lips and last a while.
blistex, carmex, and nivea is all I ever need! I stock up on these for a lifetime supply lol. My lips will crack over anything, anytime and these lip balms have been major life saver

When I used accutane for 8 months a few years ago my lips dried out like nothing else - I’m talking the Sahara dessert - aquaphor was the only thing that made a dent. You will have to try it for yourself! I didn’t know that bit about petroleum but it will be noted for the future!

I also love aquaphor, but we can't get it in brick and mortar stores in Australia as far as I know. Just a heads up that the main ingredient in it is petrolatum as well, but I do find it more hydrating than other petrolatum based products such as lucas pawpaw - likely due to the lanolin alcohol and glycerin in the formula :)

You need to use your aquaphor! It’s so intensely healing that I can use it to heal cracked, bleeding, peeling lips, dry patches of eczema and more.

Tip: research the ingredients in the lip balms to know if they are really working. For example Carmex has salacrylic acid in the list of ingredients(salacrylic acid is used in many acne products to dry up pimples) they do this so you keep applying more product. But in reality is just drying your lips.

Salicylic acid, which is the ingredient I think Raquel is refering to, only acts as a chemical exfoliant (dries up pimples, clears blackheads, etc) when its at a proper pH (lower than 3.5). In this case, it acts as a preservative and if anything it may retain some of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties (not much though because it's such a low concentration) but definitely none of the keratolytic action. As for petrolatum, it's a wonderful occlusive meaning it prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss) which helps the stratum corneum recover and function: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1564142

The body shop has good lip balms as well, different scents and flavour and all very hydrating (my fave is the one with shea butter)

I LOVE Smith’s Rosebud salve. My mom has had sunburnt and damaged lips for about two years and when I showed her Smith’s rosebud salve and now she can’t leave the house without putting one in her bag. I also love the salve. The pot is great for winter. Love the scent.

Elisabeth my personal favorite is pomegranate, nice scent and it really hydrates, if you have really dry lips I’d suggest one of the medicated or vitamin E, or if there’s a scent that seems to stand out it will be great I also enjoy the vanilla bean

Aquaphor is definitely a repairing balm. It's my holy grail balm/salve. It's also great for helping scabby wounds heal faster. A friend gave me a sample because he had loads of them from an aunt who worked with burn victims and said they use aquaphor to help burns heal faster. My husband and I put it on everything!
For high-end balms Lancome and Elizabeth Arden's ones are very similar to the ingredients in Aquaphor but they have fragrance and are much more expensive. For me Aquaphor is a dupe for those.

I’m an Aussie and have always had paw paw around my house since I was little, And I’ve never used it on my lips. Only if they were cracked or something. We used the jar version which has the same ingredients as the lip one for cuts on our skin and other stuff and it really helps when you’ve damaged your skin but not lips

The BITE agave lip mask saved my lips during the harsh Canadian winters. For a lighter option I use the Nivea lip butter in raspberry rose (smells amazinggg)

I have been a Blistex Medicated fan for years. I probably have ten on hand now: in my car, my purse, my bathroom, my office... Such a great reparative lip balm that soothes chapped lips no matter how flaky + rough they are.

The best lip balm for my dry as hell lips is carmex (love the menthol in it) in the pot, I think I purchase it like 8 times a year because I am addicted, if it is nearly finished and I don't have a backup I start to get very nervous. I tried the Elisabeth Arden and it is not for me, the scent is... not my favourite and it does anything extra for my lips than the Carmex, but I LOVE it for my cuticles and hands and I will repurchase it for that. For a lipstick like format I like Blistex, I like that it has flavours but I usually go for the original. I will always be trying lip balms because I have big dry lips and when you love lipstick and liquid lipstick, you need your lips as hydrated as possible. I will definitely try some of the ones you recommended. Hoarder lip balms united!! 💪💪
Also, now that Lanolips is in Sephora, I will give it a try for sure!!

I've been obsessed with lip balms since I was a child! I'm 27 now. My favourites are the Nivea milk and honey, sugar plum carmex, cocoa butter vaseline, to name a few! 💋

The blistex lip conditioners scent makes me nauseous 😷. I haven't used it since I bought it, maybe I'll give it a chance. Just my preference though.
Oh no, sorry to hear that! I hardly notice that scent now because I'm so used to it but I definitely know what you mean about a scent being off putting - I don't use the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream as a result x

I've been using the medicated blistex in the pot for over 3 years now, not for my everyday balm but for when my lips really need a pick me up. the scent is a lot, but its one of the only balms that i think really sinks in and has decently lasting effects for me!

My absolute favorite lip balm is the coconut sun bum sunscreen lip balm it’s paraben, gluten, petroleum, and cruelty free. It’s also vegan. It’s so smooth and leaves your lips feeling hydrated and clean. I use this every single day and I swear by it.

In my desk at work and home, my coat pocket, my car, my bedside table, my dresser and my bath robe! My latest fav is Mario Badescu lip balm in a tube - its loaded with coconut oil, shea butter and almond oil - very light and plush feeling!

I've personally found that the Smith's Rosebud Salve is perfect for my dry lips. It's been my go-to for about a year now. Despite the petroleum, I felt that it's kept my lips hydrated!

I absolutely love the Laneige sleeping mask and the lip glow during the day- the berry scent gives my lips a subtle pink tint! They come in an array of scents and hydrate my lips all day long! Would have to check out the ingredients more but I think they’re a great find. Great video, I am such a fan of yours!

Hey guys! I don’t know that many people will see this but my story is very important and NEEDS to be shared! All of my life my lips were naturally nourished and I had never needed lip balm for them to be smooth. That is until two years ago when I decided I wanted to try a lip balm and I started religiously using one of those mini Vaseline lip balms in the crème brûlée flavor. I would apply it many times throughout the day and thought it was doing wonders for my lips, however I was making my lips dependent on it for moisture and after stopping using it for only 2 days my lips became ripped apart. I cut myself off cold turkey which in retrospect was not a good idea but after just a week of not using it my lips were permanently damaged. To this day, two years later, my lips are now the most sensitive pair of lips you have ever seen and will be fine one hour and completely white because of how chapped they are they next hour. My lips have been through so much pain and I still haven’t found the product that can help me but based off of my experience please do not use the mini Vaseline for lips.

As someone who is allergic to lanolin, I have to be incredibly careful when buying skin products, especially lip balms. In fact, I gave up on searching (fruitlessly) for safe ones years ago, and stick to pure petroleum jelly, even though it doesn't hydrate my lips.
The Aquaphor one looks like it may be promising though - I'll have to do some research!

Nuxe is my all time fave! I love both the jar and the stick version. But recently I’ve been loving the japanese lip balm called “Rohto Mentholatum XD” it never fails to get my lips so smooth and soft by the morning. It is honestly starting to replace my Nuxe which I’ve used for years and repurchased a crazy amount of time (and gifted to others lol). Best part is it’s extremely cheap.

These are so pretty :”) I love your little collection. I have lots of EOS balms!!! They’re my favorites but the best for hydration at night, it’s the balm from bath and body. It’s thick but it keeps me moisturized and gets rid of all the dead skin!

I love blistex over Carmex for winter lips. They’re flavored sticks aren’t always my favorite because they’re a little too waxy. I picked up a Mario badesqu lip trio and omg the taste and formula were amazing I would put some on before makeup and my lips were still so soft by the time i would walk out the door. Definitely recommend

My favorite is actually Vaseline. My lips were peeling and dry, and so was the skin around. I tried blistex, and so many others but none worked, then I tried Vaseline, and after 4 uses my lips were amazing. All you have to do is apply honey for example or just something moisturizing before, then it works perfectly

I'm a long-time convert to the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. Nothing else has worked so well for my retinoid-peely lips (and I've tried everything from lanolin nipple creams to the By Terry Baume). You'll be pleased to know it's petroleum jelly-free! Just shea and murumuru butters for moisture, and zinc/manganese for repair.

Yes, I agree! Not their lip repair, but just the regular Aquaphor multi-purpose ointment is actually fantastic on the lips. I apply it when my lips are damp to lock in hydration, and leave it on overnight. My lips are significantly more hydrated in the morning. Or I could see using Aquaphor or Vaseline to layer over nourising lip products to seal them in, the way we layer regular skincare.
Seeing that Carmex tube just sparked old memories I completely forgot about! My Dad used to always have the potted version in his car, and I can still remember being forced to use it when my lips were dry and chapped. That zingy feeling gets more intense the more dehydrated your lips are. It always had a distinct scent that would fill the entire car, and whenever I smell it when I'm out in public, I always know it's coming from someone using Carmex.
I really like the Milk Makeup Kush lip balm. It's pretty hydrating, and gives a nice tint.
Such a wonderful, informative video! I've been wondering about the pawpaw ointment but now might only consider it in an emergency. My favorites are the nuxe reve de miel (in a pot), aquaphor and the Japanese brand DHC lip cream. I'm actually fond of the Elizabeth Arden 8hour balm because aside from the petrolatum, it also contains lanolin. Another potential favorite is a lip oil made by organic skincare brand Human Nature.

I use neutrogena lip balm and it's probably my favorite (blistix is 2nd). Its light weight, hydrating, long lasting, and glossy. It's also works for chafed lips! Love love love it sm

I love the Vaseline lip therapy mini versions - get the pink one which is more dewy compared to the others which is more like typical original Vaseline

Third is Kiehls Buttermilk Lip Treatment. Sooo good.

You should totally try the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lip Therapy Balm for the repair category, it’s soooo smooth and tastes slightly minty without the tingly feeling that I’m not a huge fan of! Keeps your lips soft allllll day!

It's so nice and smooth isn't it Becca! Unfortunately it actually does have petrolatum in it (the same thing as petroleum), but so many products do.. They use it as a 'carrier' to balance the rest of the ingredients out. Still love it though! x

I’m Canadian and was introduced to Lucas Papaw ointment - for me personally it’s the most moisturizing lip balm I’ve ever tried! I also use it for itches, bug bites, small cuts and scrapes. Also for slugging. Truly a holy grail multi purpose product for me, but I understand it wouldn’t work for everyone.
NUXE is my extreme favorite! I love it! Currently I'm using a third one and I'll keep buying it.
