Haha, that's just great ain't it?
Jazzy Boy yeah. I’m studying Horse Sandwichology
MedievalWarfare
I study Hannibal's Necromancy Techniques. You know, sacrificing a couple of my men to revive some of my elephants in Rome:Total War?
Jazzy Boy ah, that will prove nicely for this SYDC seeing as there’s no money.
MedievalWarfare
I highly agree. Problem is there aren't any game-changing units such as elephants to train in this game, they'd change the course of France's conquest to get out of debt very quickly. Or any other demoralizing units such as scythed chariots could do nicely. Or berserkers, too.
Who sent you the save file? Macron?
lol
Best comment ever! In the far distant future Darkstar and his evil forces "sent you this campaign" Their only opposition is "LegendofTotalWar"

Shit Legend should inform Macron.
Grubjin Macron needs to learn from Napoleon and use a “whiff of grapeshot.”
underrated comment. 😂
4:40 Legends utter disgust at those ballista
Ballista in old TW are worthless. I fought a battle between 20 ballista vs 20 archers. Archers massacre ballista with missles. Plus, archers can win much easier by simply charge ballista, and fight in melee.
Their only use is to force AI defenders out of a settlement through potential bombardment, without exploiting AI stupidity of drawing out. This is useless for LegendOfTW, because AI is too stupid, and he knows how to beat drawing out AI with a smaller force.
This is, however, historically accurate for ballista. I think the fix is not to make ballista more powerful army killer, but to make it a mobile siege engine (outside of 20 units limit) not a unit.
na im good
Hayes107 was
@@y.z.6517 The only use i have found for ballistas to be really good at something is to sally out against a force that has very little or no missile units at all.
Just get 2 of them on either side of the enemy army and shoot at them from the side. The ability of each bolt to impale several enemy soldiers and the fact that the AI remains idle (i guess they dont react to artillery) are what make them so great in these kind of senarios. I have defeated besieging armies twice the size of my garrison and have managed to achieve victories otherwise impossible to defeat conventionally.
I know it's cheesy but everything is fair in love and war as they say.
@@fragmaster101 I think a less cheesy usage is to block the enemy in city with spear walls, and bombarde them with artillery. I can imagine a real person trying to get his army out of the trap, but found it too late. Although it is hard to set up the trap against anyone smarter than an AI.

I love that there are still people that are new to this game. Makes me nostalgic for the noob days where this game still seemed challenging and daunting.
I wish I could play this game for the first time again.
I agree! But you can still be bamboozled by the ai sometimes when it does random shit and they all attack at once it happened once in almost 1k hours while playing as hungary and at like turn 18 i got gangbanged by all the nearby factions without any reason
I have mixed feelings. I never played it, but am too familiar with most of it's mechanics and shortcomings.
I remember when I used to ignore my economy for military. Now I think of every offensive action as an economic expense. You end up playing this game so different over time
@@LiberRaider fax I remember losing fast every total war Rome campaign but by my second medieval 2 campaign as Venice I focused on my economy and making alliances with France and the HRE to where when my alliances broke down my armies are few but have mainly heavily armored troops and it’s almost no problem.

@@TheArklyte the leftist government has proclaimed that no more bailout packages and memoranda with the European institutions and the IMF are required and that the economy will now boom thanks to foreign investment. However, they cripple the people with disproportionate taxes, they fail at doing privatizations and have taken no measures to diminish the bureaucracy, so no foreign investors for the moment... we are still a shithole with 20% unemployment in general and 60% unemployed youth and hundreds of billions of debt.. your economy I think is Russian backed is that correct? It’s cool, because each disasters are totally different from one an other.
I never thought, I would see a debt saving disaster...
Your account name just gave me some serious nostalgia.
@You take a sip of your trusty vault 13 canteen. I agree that there is a lot of variety in the SYDC but I was actually just waiting on a disaster campaign with a massive debt. Because al others where just Legend winning a last stand and then being Legend just out conquer the AI like shit. By hiring every thin he can and doing draw outs and..
Just Legend out manouvering the slow MedII ai like crazy and mustering all he can.
So there was a lot of variety in which factions, and where on the map against who on which time. But little differnce in tactics. Or even "little" different from a normal start.
This is like the office of total war disaster campaigns , "gotta save the company from it's debt"
I giggle at Legend when he starting to realized how serious the dept was. From being overly confident to sweating himself as he realized which such dept that even sacking all settlements in Europe won't pay them off and he won't be getting any reinforcement at all until all dept are paid. Mongol invasion will be upon him soon and the Islamic will become even more powerful when he reach to them.
Kaleidoscope aajahhaha

I think the reason why he has cav as garrison is because he let it run on auto-recruit, and the Total War AI is pretty shit at automanaging.

Being in big debt is so much more interesting than being almost dead ngl. Total war gets really fun when your forced to expand economically. I am getting a rather distinct "Battle of the Bulge" feeling from this episode.
Damn, i thought you said it was saving france, not saving the dutch tullip industry
I really relate to this debt situaion. My very first campaign for England ended in utter failure - did not develop settlements properly and in like 10 terms half of the entire map became gray and I was in about 10 000 debt. So yeah - I really can relate to this fail scenario.
Probs one of the most entertaining SYDC yet! Original challenge!:D
I would've just consolidated in Great Britain and Northern France, and disband/pillage most of the other armies and cities. Fighting on so many fronts requires a silly amount of upkeep.
Afterwards use the remaining general's bodyguards for raiding. You would be gaining money instantly, and after 100 turns you would be out of debt.
19:00 you need to put your archers/ crossbows further behind your front line otherwise they just shoot vertically and do basically zero damage. about 30/50 metres is required for your missilles to fire correctly. that general would have been dead in 2-3 volleys had your crossbowmen been adequately deployed
I am really looking forward to Part 2 of this one. Normally your SYDC campaigns are about somebody being crushed by external armies (was there ever an exception?), making this scenario of being mainly handicapped by previous economic mismanagement standing out and very interesting.
Oh look...it's the new "Greece Simulator 2019"

Holy FUCK this is an actual "Fall of an empire" And how one general (Legend) Is gonna return it to it's former glory.
This is why france killed the templars for their money. Also the guy had more mercenary troops than french ones
Keep the SYDC's coming! It's easily my favourite series of all the ones you do. I love some of the unique challenges you are given to tackle - like this one, it's a doozy!
Kinda like in real life
hahahaaha Paris is in fucking complete anarchy right now

@@Jeyeyeyey Except Macron has a 23% approval rating, his government is trying to impose yet more taxes (that will mostly impact the already vulnerable middle class) in an already highly taxed nation, the public deficit is high, and there are widespread protests. But keep your head in the sand if you want. France is a great nation, but currently it has some issues to work through.
True 2nd Napoleon.
This happened because its obvious the guy had auto manage turned on, plain and simple. If its set to spend then it will continue spending until money is gone
This was a fresh disaster scenario, can't wait to see if even the jew of tw can handle 500k debt
When legend made the jew of total war joke I immediately thought of Uncle Leo "If anybody asks you where you got it, you don't know" and shoves the money in Jerrys pocket
It’s like the guy actively went out of his way to avoid learning anything about medieval 2 and total war economy in general.
This is a really enjoyable episode Legend, you're not cheesing the battles and the economy truly is a massive disaster!
Where's my money, Wazowski?
Legend:
In a larger empire with armies spread out and at the frontier (and lots of ocean) i've found it useful to have a unit or two of cavalry in every settlement while not bothering with a fleet, that way if the ai or rebels decide to try their luck your cavalry can sally and destroy their siege engines and sometimes their entire army, ive had entire enemy armies defeated by 2 garrison cav while my armies were conquering, plus it helps w public order while you keep taxes up, its worked out for me on hard and very hard and ive still been getting 7-20k a turn while continuously recruiting troops.
Way too many mercenaries maintain the homelands with peasants and militia
How does one even get to half a million in debt? Recruit large stacks of mercenaries and then waste them as garrisons.
I also agree with you Legend. 300 turns to win is far too long. Especially as the English. Should only take 175 turns once the economy is straightened out.
10:52 "Do you have any spies or... oh my god."
I saw the title and I hoped it was Empire: Total war, cause that would be too perfect, if you know what I mean ;)
legend would suppress the entirety of the french revolution using a single artillery piece and a unit of militia, while simultaneously reversing debt and conquering all of prussia
gruspacito lmaooo so true!
tl:dr legend whoops the collective asses of christianity with a stack of cavalry despite being in way more debt than the united states
I'll get the money, I'll kill to get the money!
With a four-speed on the floor, they'll be waitin' at the door

Never played as france in medieval 2 but hearing those french voices makes me think either some voice lines were recycled or at least used the same voice actors for bretonnia in TWWH
Same VA for basically all french voices in all Total War
Feels weird seeing all these armies running around after so long with total warhammer.
I miss those days.
If you're in $100 of debt you have a problem, if you have $100,000 of debt then the bank has a problem
I would be fascinated to find out how you can get into such a large debt at this early stage in the game? There is an over reliance on mercenaries but most of the towns/castles look as if they have had very little development and are not creating much income.Even with Legend's conquests he is doing very little to reduce the over all debt?
This is what happens when I new player gets over their head. I know, because I did the same thing as the HRE way back in the day as a teenager. I bulldozed France, England, and Poland, moving down to Spain and the Pope when I got excommunicated. Suddenly I had rebels, concurrent wars, and fell into a defensive turtle as people slipped around to grab settlements.
I learned a shit ton of what to do and what not to do from that failure.
I get what you're saying about don't sit on garrisons, and I agree, to a point. In my current Venice campaign, I have large garrissons, but only in my frontier. Places like Nicaea come under siege repeatedly while I'm focusing on something more pressing, so I just leave a large garrison to beat back the Turks until I'm good and ready to deal with their shit.
Adam Uhrynuk that's the point of garrisons but if you have lots of men ideally you can go on the offensive
@@jamesoleary2476 But I'll raise a real army to do that. I'm not going to take levee militia on a campaign when there are better options.
@@littlekuribohimposte Yeah i get where your coming from and if you are focusing on other places its a sound strategy but ideally being on the offensive and pushing the enemy back is more long term. They say the best defense is a good offence.
@@jamesoleary2476 I know. And if money was no object, then I would. But I'm also hesitant about pushing hard because the Mongols are nearby, and I'd rather not get ganged up on.

maybe Greece should get Legend to fix their debt
I don’t understand how someone can be this incompetent at balancing their checkbook. The only way I can imagine getting into that much debt in med2 would be to grow to a moderate size as a means of obtaining a decent capital (as in $$), then use all of it to buy mercs. Every turn. All the mercs. Until there’s nothing in the bank (capital gone) at which point you just click end turn with a -15k/turn eco for some ~30 turns. Meanwhile spain takes 1/3 of your territory, rebels take another 1/3, and finally use the merc army to occupy rome. Gotta make sure all the catholics will join the call for crusade.
The french have some pretty good insults in this game.
1:22:15 It's at this moment Legend starts to realise just how hard this disaster will be to fix
Maybe he exterminated all the settlements he took instead of sacking them. And he clearly did not develop any of them. I would ransom more captives though as extra source of income.
1:49 its like reading a history book
This should be called Saving your economy
I don't quite understand why Legend keeps saying "Cowards" every time their troops start to rout. I mean, they're french, it's what they do
There is being a bad player and then there is just plain incompetence
this upload was perfectly timed and well done my man
with multiple layers of walls and towers your castles generally only need a few units of decent archers, a couple decent infantry to hold the walls, and one unit of cav to sally out against siege equipment.
i really like watching the rams on 6x speed fucking the gates
"We are gaining assets to pay off the debt." It's funny to hear feudalism described in such a capitalistic way, but I suppose you could think of medieval houses and dynasties as a family owned business!
Wow... This is an epic disaster. I didn't know you could screw up like this in m2tw... Maybe Rome 2 or Attila but not medieval 2
I think the only thing he can do is disband all those mercs. He can take all the settlements he wants but it won't make up for that debt. If you can't even build economy buildings in the settlements you take, there not doing much. He's taken enough territory (maybe too much), it's time to disband the mercenaries.
“You’ve hired the Jew of total war” LMAO
Would you do CK2 disasters too? I mean, divided realm, angry council, they often maoe for bigger problems than this

Secret Pro tip for having good campaign AI: DO A HOTSEAT AND PLAY AS LITERALLY EVERYONE
I know that med 2 campaigns have sorta died out but it would be cool to see one where you don't spend a single penny, just use the troops you start with and gen bods, as well as mission rewards.
I think what I've had done would have been to take all the armies to the UK, take it then disband pretty much disband most of the armies so I'm in profit per turn then just call it a day because getting out of that debt would take sooooo many turns.
LegendOfTotalWar should be the economics minister for Greece.
You wouldn't be in debt if you just hire a few merchants early in the game. Kappa
Jeez he has 9 settlements and only 1772 farming income? He really neglected his economy.. trade almost none existent and no merchants.
