    1-8 -
    One last Thank you to Patron supporter Kyle for sending these in so I could do a side by side comparison! For the price, these are both pretty good all in all. Technology has come a long way even to make these low budget LPVO's good enough for the vast majority. If your curious about a FFP LPVO and how they work. The 1-6 is my recommendation. The 1-8 only if you can justify the extra 2x vs the rest of its short comings.

    I thing I noticed when looking at spec sheets for these budget scopes; these SLX scopes are made of 6063 aluminum. Maybe that’s how they hit their price point, and I know this isn’t a toughness sort of review, but other budget scopes are made of 6061-T6.
    I like these budget optic reviews because the European & USA-assembled scopes are just too expensive (and shockingly bad in comparison….looking at you Trijicon LPVO). The only budget LPVO scope in my local gun shops are Chinese Vortex. I have no way of looking through a PrimaryArms/Atibal/Swampfox type budget scope unless I buy one or someone reviews it online. Your videos are the only ones with enough consistency to actually see the relative quality between various brands. Keep it up!

    • @CDOES
      @CDOES  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks Eugene! Ya know I never even noticed the material specs on the sheet. TBH I dont fall in line with compare spec sheets. Because you never know what is going to be what with them. If they are making them of 6063 vs 6061 then that might explain a touch of the feel differences. 6063 is easier to machine and extrude. Oddly enough it hands thermals better than 6061.

      Wether it matters or not , for what it’s worth the T6 refers to the heat treatment process after milling, forging/extrusion are completed.

    I love my original PA 1-8x ACSS SFP scope.
    I find it's 1x image is flat, bright, clear and very near to true 1x.
    Eye box on 1x is perfectly acceptable and I don't have any trouble getting behind it.
    It remains perfectly usable up to 5-6x where it does get a bit tight from there to 8x.
    I find the illumination to be perfectly adequate for all but shooting in direct bright sun where illumination isn't needed anyway though I do get why some prefer "daytime bright" illumination. It can offer a slight speed advantage for some run n gun shooting.
    The ACSS reticle is simply the best in the industry and I've personally confirmed its ranging and targeting capability to 550 yards. Its superb!
    As far as the 1st focal plane vs 2nd focal plane argument, I strongly prefer 2nd FP on any scope of 10x to 12x and less and especially for these 1-6x and 1-8x LPVOs.
    The 1st FP isn't even usable below 3x to 4x as you simply can't see the tiny substensions at that magnification with any accuracy and certainly with any speed and most require 5x and higher for true performance. Plus the reticle is too small in many cases on 1x as well.
    While the 2nd FP option provides a large usable reticle at 1x and max magnification.
    Besides, why would anyone try to range or engage a distant target on anything less than max magnification anyway?
    I wouldn't. So why does anyone need their BDC to be calibrated at anything less than max magnification? I don't.
    2nd FP can still be used accurately on 4x in particular (or 3x on a 1-6x) by halfing the values. Not that that even matters as 5.56 rifles shoot flat enough to 300 yards that the BDC isn't required anyway.
    All reasons the 2nd FP reticle makes more sense and once trained with and adjusted to will be a more effective system all around.
    AND it's less expensive to manufacture.
    Advantage - 2nd Focal Plane.
    Btw I also own PAs original platinum series 1-8x ACSS FFP scope and LOVE it too.
    But...I still prefer my less expensive, less bulky and lighter SFP model.
    To each his own though. You can't go wrong with Primary Arms ACSS optics!

    • @RuneTrips
      @RuneTrips 4 місяці тому

      Why would anyone engage at less than max magnification? Why have the other magnifications then? And if you're at 1x. Why would you need to see the tiny hashes anyway? You have a scope that's only calibrated as far out as it can go

    • @holdernewtshesrearin5471
      @holdernewtshesrearin5471 4 місяці тому

      @@RuneTrips - I think I covered that pretty well above.
      But why have other mag ranges?
      You have to get from 1x to max mag somehow and theres 6 other mag ranges between a 1-8x.
      They exist and some like to use them.
      As for myself, I mainly use my 1-8x on 1x for 0 to 50 meters or so and 8x for 50 to 800 meters.

      @RuneTrips - because you can't count to 8 from 1 without going through 2 thru 7, cant get to Florida from New York without traveling through Georgia.
      You can't get to 8x from 1x without going through 2x trhu 7x.
      Unless you own an Elcan DR which uses a prism rather than a conventional magnification tube with adjustable lenses.
      All other optics use conventional magnification mechanics that require you to dial through the range.
      Kinda a silly question, man.

    • @holdernewtshesrearin5471
      @holdernewtshesrearin5471 25 днів тому

      @Or3guns - yep. I think most people choose FFP because some Navy SEAL or Army Delta guy said it's necessary.
      If you use your own critical thinking skills I think most will find SFP simply serves them better.
      Congrats on the great deal! I'm sure you'll love it. I own several PA ACSS optics now and love them!
      Can't go wrong with PA!

    Take a tactical course.
    Bring 2 rifles.
    Run 1-6 on day 1.
    Run 1-8 on day 2.
    Then you’ll know.
    Most people learn that red dots are better for CQB. LPVOs are better for medium range shots and identifying targets. And, operationally, one LPVO is not that significantly better than the other, when used within the ranges that make sense for an LPVO. We’re talking Potayto - Potahto, Tomayto-Tomahto.
    And remember, your gear only does so much. If you have a $5000 rifle with the latest Ninja gear on it, and you can’t shoot it well, or you lack tactics and strategy… your $5000 battle rifle is going to become your enemy’s war trophy.

  • @righteousone8454
    @righteousone8454 Рік тому

    So, I am going to be a person who says something that many may not agree with.
    Vortex PST Gen 2 sucks on 1x magnification, it causes a huge amount of fishbowl. It shines when you zoom in past 2x, and clarity of the PST is better than Primary Arms 1-6x FFP by about 25% in clarity. With actually less eye box on Vortex.
    I just tested both optics and I wouldn't go for PST, even though sharpness is about 25% better. Maybe Nova SFP in 1-6x is better in clarity, but has more fishbowl than PST according to your test, so 1-6 FFP by Primary is better than PST in terms of fishbowl.
    Looks like quality is too dramatically different from scope to scope. My 1-6x SLX by Primary in FFP does better than 600 dollar PST.
    I was gonna return Primary Arms and get PST, because of your videos, but PST actually worse in many ways. At the surface level at some zoom levels PST has more eye box, and on some settings less than Primary Arms 1-6.
    I had a chance today to compare Primary Arms 1-6x FFP SLX to Razor HD 1-6x by Vortex, and besides of clarity at max magnification, I wouldn't buy this optic. 1x is truly unusable on Razor HD after you look at Primary Arms variant.
    It's kind of crazy how Razor HD does not deliver performance of Primary Arms in terms of image stability and creates more distortions and bubbling effect as you look around. Makes you dizzy. That's 1500 dollar optic. When you zoom in it shines in all of it's glory, but it sucks in smaller magnifications.
    I have Vortex Crossfire 2, and that optic sits on my long range rifle, and I love it. Yes it get a bit washed out on 24x zoom, but it's accurate and I never had issues with it.
    Here is what I can say though: every optic is different quality, even same brand and same model. One PST may be great, the others can be very meh. I had another Crossfire 2 6-24x50, and distance parallax was accurate +/-1 yard, crosschecked with rangefinder. New Crossfire 2 I have is about 5-7 yards off on the dial. Same scope, same factory.
    My illumination on 1-6x FFP is kind of bunk, it bleeds over unevenly, but I think I will keep it, because it's so much closer to real 1x without fishbowl, versus PST Gen 2 that it's supposed to lose to. Imagine 1-6x FFP SLX by Primary Arms being better than Razor HD that costs 1500 at closer range magnifications. Hilarious...
    I will still buy Vortex optics, but in their big windowed models, and probably second focal plane. LPVOs in SFP by vortex have so much fisheye it's too much. Your brain becomes "drunk" trying to adjust when you shoot with 2 eyes open.
    1-6x Primary Arms in FFP (at least mine) is about 0.85-0.92x on 1x setting, which is actually better than PST's 1.25x at 1x zoom. Bigger zoom really fks your brain up. You become dizzy.
    With that in mind, I realize that my 1-6x Primary Arms is probably at 5.80x at max, not actual 6x, but it's better than PST gen 2. Better than Razor HD at lower magnifications. But Vortex shines at long distances with Razor and PST, but sucks in SFP option. Their Crossfire 2 6-24x is excellent in SFP though.
    I had a chance to look at Strike Eagle 1-8 FFP and Strike Eagle 1-8 SFP against Primary Arms 1-6x FFP, and guess what? Clarity is astronomically better on Primary Arms. Strike Eagle 1-8 in SFP was the only optic that was more accurate in 1x compared to Primary Arms, but was very washed out at 8x magnification, and way more washed out in 6x, compared to Primary Arms.
    But if you go try another Strike Eagle, it can be worse in all that I said, compared to Primary Arms, because quality control is too wild to call "Quality Control", this is China.
    I can't believe though how hyped the reviews are on PST, but I read some negative reviews saying that people like Strike Eagle more. There is a point to it, but not in terms of clarity that PST has at higher magnification. Overall my point is when I pay for Razor HD...it better do EVERYTHING good from 1x to 6x, I don't want clear glass and disorientation that is worse than an optic that is made in China. I have a feeling they still have bad qc, but great glass. The transmission of light through lenses on Razor HD is bugged out at 1x though, it was easily the worst that I saw out of the optics I tried today.
    Primary Arms is doing something incredible, but every optic can have variants in QC as well.
    Vortex has the best warranty, and they have been awesome to me in the past. I will be on the lookout for other products, but all around LPVO...none of Razor or PST. Strike Eagle will do better in SFP or even FFP.
    Oddly so.
