This is so unfocused and filled with asides of the gameplay itself, it makes it very hard to follow. Could have really helped having visual relating to characters or events.. over just trailers..
I thought the content was good, but yeah it was often kind of hard to concentrate on what he was saying because what you were seeing did not match up. Would have helped a lot.
100% agreed, stopped watching at min 14 because i couldn't handle the mismatch between what is being told and what is being shown anymore. I now respect all the lore videos in other games where people put in the time and effort to mix in the visuals perfectly.

I just rolled an alt and played all the way up to A Brief Reprieve. It took a few months because I also did a lot of the side content and I'm still not at %100 on the missing side content, but it was totally worth it handing the MSQ back to my main for the last two quests.
thanks for the video, i tried watching another dudes recap and the dude was talking like he was the narrator for an action movie trailer and it was so corny. this was easier to understand for me, gonna check out your other vids to get prepared for endwalker. i have skipped the story from ARR to SB so thanks for the videos lol
Watching this in a loud environment ... so I enabled the automatically generated captions... "... Warrior of Darkness who is being influenced by the ass hands in order to try and bring about another calamity..." Thanks Google... From now on I will always remember this when I encounter an Ascian in game.
Thank you for the recap. Would just like to offer a bit of feedback: Often times what you were describing was not what was appearing on screen in the video and it was a bit confusing. For example: When starting to talk about Lady Iceheart/Ysayle, she was never shown and it was just a cutscene with Minfilia in it. Would have been better to be more consistent.
I did it.... I preordered Shadowbringers yesterday. I got into this game a couple of months ago and I've been slowly making my way through the game and the expansions. I'm glad I got into this. I finished the msq for the Stormblood patches last night. And now I wait for the flooding of light.
Thank you so much for this! I started at the very end of stormblood and have been rapidly trying to just catch up so I skipped so many cutscenes and got lost at some point in the story. This helped a lot to clean it up. Thanks!
So one SMALL correction. Louisoix was trying to summon the essence (but not form) of the Twelve. That's why you see their symbols show up when he attempts to put bahamut back in dalamud. The birth of pheonix came from the hopes and fears of the people of Eorzea being made manifest from the aether still around louisoix after Bahamut went "Ha! Nope!" to his containment spell.
As clunky as 1.0 was it was so charming to me. I loved my time playing it. I remember leveling gladiator all the way to 50 and not knowing about getting my pld soul and the story and being blown away fighting ifrit and everything. ARR is great and I just started playing again after a long break but man what a ride
Like other people have said... this helps me out so much. I played the game about 4 years ago and remembered nothing at all. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I'm so excited for Friday. My first expack experience on this game.
It has been a long time since I went through ARR and did not remember most of that and was clueless to the 1.0 story. Awesome lore vid. Hope to see more of them.
I keep returning to FFXIV. I played during 1.0, have my birth cert. from it and everything. In breaking the game up like i have, i havnt really followed the story at all. I just came back to the game and this is exactly what i needed. thanks for making this.
Main scenario quests....I am 13 and all I am doing so far is killing these, fetching that, delivering those. If this game is going to show me why it is worth a subscription fee, it had better get to it. If I get to 30 and I haven't gotten any kind of story, I am going to be sadly disappointed.
Just wanted to add my thanks that this vid was a super helpful recap for a this returning player (I left mid stormsblood so I needed a reminder of what was going on!) thanks again!
I see alot of flack for the dialogue over trailers, cutscenes, etc... Even if you skipped through most of the game, you can probably pick up on the major characters and city states mentioned throughout, without needing a visual representation of what he's describing to you. Very well put together script and summary my friend. Over a week into the game and I'm loving every minute of it! Thank you for bringing together some loose ends and questions I had pertaining to MSQ! Keep up the videos
@Work To Game Do you think you could possibly make a video like this that discusses the entire Storyline of the Dark Knight quests? I tried looking for a summary video of it's story, but found nothing. Only videos of all the quests, and I don't want to have to read all that. Just thought it would be nice to get caught back up on the DRK story, because I remember none of it, and with it being the poster child of Shadowbringers, I thought it necessary to relearn it's story.
Thank you for making these informative videos! As someone who got into FF14 because my boyfriend was a big player, I have had near zero idea what the hell is going on this game at any time, so relatively succinct summaries like this is a godsend
Haha man, I was thinking about asking you this video. I like quite a few FFXIV UA-camrs, each with its pros and cons, but when it comes to loving the lore of this game there is only one 👌🏻. Thanks for the video mate!
I am more confused than ever. What happened in the calamity cinematic and what you say appear to be 2 different things. Where is phoenix, and how does bahamut heals? I really don't get it.
Late but I’ll try and clarify. First, he mentions that he turns into the phoenix to kill Bahamut. So before dying to Megaflare, Loiusoix receives power from the 12, turning him into a Primal. With this new power is how he was able to defeath Bahamut. In the trailer “A realm reborn”, we do not know what primal he became, since he didn’t turn into the primal physically. We know he becomes phoenix when we reach the binding coil of bahamut, where he shows his true form. Second, Bahamut was supposed to die. Louisoix did strike a fatal blow, however there were 2 things he wasn’t privy of at the time. One, the allagans had a facility where not only would it help bahamut heal should he be damaged, but it would also serve to make a prison to recapture him for later use. Additionally, this facility housed a dragon race that were kept in stasis, in order to pray for bahamuts return and wrath. By doing so, it prevents Bahamut from dissolving into aether. So him not being able to dissolve and the facility gathering and repairing the parts that were left of Bahamut after the calimity, allowed for his return. Meanwhile, while he regenerated, he took control of Louisoix and some other entities. That should sum up some of your questions.
The Ascians are creatures of the Shadow Weave and agents of the Shadowking! You are tasked with travelling to Neverwinter and talking to king Nasher to learn more!
So I played through to Heavensward and all the way to lvl 60. Decided to just boost to Shadowbringers and play through that so I can start at Endwalker with friends. These recaps are amazing dude. Thanks so much. Also...ptsd watching the queen die again. Man that was a gut punch playing through that part of the game.
Thank god for this. I actually watch every cut scene but really it goes in one ear and out the other. I honestly couldn't tell you what is allagan, Sharlayan, or Ivalican etc etc. I'm like let me just get my new armors and be done with it lol
Great presentation, you covered a lot but a lot for a new to the FFXIV player there is still a lot unanswered for the story. I would love to know what some of the different people, places and entities are. Is there a website that explains what you glossed over, that is not a complaint by any means I just want to learn more. Thank you for all the great content and I loved the show with heelsvbabyface on WoW Classic that just came out.
Thank you for taking your time to make this comprehensive video! I had skipped through the entire reading cutscenes all the way to level 80 and was hoping to find a video to help me better understand what was going on, as I heard the storyline in the FF games were always pretty good. Sadly, for me, it felt like you were talking way to fast and made 1 sentence stretch over 20mins long! Add to that the complex names of the characters and it was pretty difficult to follow. I don’t doubt that all the information is there but I would suggest that for future videos, you should concentrate on your pitch/pace of your information. I appreciate there was a lot to get through but clarity/deliverance of information is always the most important aspect of successful videos.
Yeah, I think you missed some things. Dragons, elder primal baha, how dragons fit into the lore family ties ... Now that I'm saying it out loud maybe this warrants a separate video lol
I don't like the devs excuse they gave for having the story set in a time bubble (like the Simpsons). They wanted to avoid newer players from being confused and all but it doesn't make sense since everyone has to do the MSQ in order and they've shown they can hide stuff and change stuff in the overworld depending on your progress. I will agree that it's too late to set up these changes since they'd have to change the dialogue from every expansion to make it seem like clear time has passed, add/change some code, add new dialogue to old NPCs (not really necessary imo), etc. Side quest could just be assumed you're doing them at a certain point in the timeline. If you left a Heavensward quest and did it in Stormblood then the player can just assume it's all happening before Stormblood. No need to match dialogue to the present in those cases imo. Hopefully in the future move time forward in some way cuz at this point characters like Alphinaud should be in the cusp of their Elezen growth spurt. I still enjoy the game a LOT. It just irks me how it's all still a time bubble.
Thanks for the recap! The only thing I think was maybe a little off, was Nabriales was the first ascian they killed, but it sounded like a twist on Lahabrea
Thanks a lot for this video. It helped me a lot to recap what happened. I'd love to see more of what you mentioned with the many storylines that are in the game. Maybe even a bit more thorough recap of things happening in each expansion like a video about what happened in 1.0, then one about what happened in 2.0, 3.0 and so on.
I enjoyed this a lot, but the echo is a lie. As it stands there’s only three people with the echo that can hear Hydalen. We know there’s more than three people who have the echo. Arnvald and Foredola and Iceheart all have the echo. Yet they can’t hear Hydalen. WOL,Minfilia, and Kirile can. At this point it stands to reason Hydalen never gave us the echo. More evidence of this happens throughout Heavensward. We loose Hydalen’s blessing at the end of AAR, yet we still possess the echo and can see Into the past. Midgarsomar is older than the splitting of the shards, so suffice to say. It’s very likely we were tempered by Hydalen but she did not give us the echo. The echo is an unknown ability I believe will be explained in full in ShadowBringers. At least I hope.
I love how the story follows what happened to FF14, Bahamut destroys all and uncertainty takes place, symbiotic of FF14's failed launche. Than the warriors of light (the players) come back to restore
im just confused about what happens at the end of the battle. bahamet gets summoned but i dont get how he was defeated. you said a phoenix was summonded but i didnt see any of that in the cinematic. that guy makes a shield and the scions channel aether and pray and stuff but i dont get what it does
Just what I needed. I skipped a ton after a while and also bought the skip in the end. I want to experience shb from the start and I simply didn't have the time to play that much with work in my back. But I'm looking forward to the whole story and shbs story. I a character to 50 before that so I'm only slightly bad at the game, coming from wow I know what mmos are and how most things work :3 and as a dragoon now I need to learn how to properly tank the floor
Thank you so much for this. Was looking for a story summary with this much detail and you nailed it!!!! I do have a question thought about the game. I have only been playing for about 3 months and really enjoy the game but trying to get my friends on the same world and now even the same server has been really hard ( I’m on Primal@Famfrit) do you guys know if this is normal pre DLC and then the population dies down or do they make more room on the servers after the DLC launches. Any answer would be much appreciated. Thanks for all the awesome stuff and love the podcasts, keep up the good work!
Thank you i did not understand it at all so i watched the video 3 times and i think i can understand a bit more, thank you for making this video for a New FFXIV Noob :)
Yeah, I'm lvl 40 and skipped all the cutscenes. Thought I might have lost some value there, then after listening to you, I realized I was right to do so. Don't care much for the story, I just want to hit some stuff, look cool while doing it and play with cool people.
when Yoshi / SE makes the next real FF Mmo.., want its transition and connection (story, build up, characters etc.) to be like what the transition from FFXIV 1.0 to 2.0 was.. (just keep the servers up of FFXIV all the time, for those seeking the old content and story)
I don wish S-E did at least give new players a video condensed version of the 1.0 story with some of the important characters from that storyline that are plot imporant in 2.0 onward
Great video as always! I know this is a shot in the dark but I don't suppose the Crystal Tower video is coming out before Friday? I am not a raider so I do not know the story and I know they said it would be important...
exactly what i was looking for, thank you!!! i enjoy the lore but there's so many dumb sideplots like helping this girl pick grapes while my friends souls are about to run out?!?! so i end up annoyed and skip sometimes lol
Have always skipped all cutscenes and dialogue because I just want to play the game, and I came here thinking maybe it would be somewhat easy to understand... But nope, I didn't understand a thing you were talking about the whole time. Appreciate the video, though!
Thank you for this love the video now I know whats been what as a returning player! NOTE: I would LOVE if the FF14 *Emperor* mention of this Empire is actually a version of *Emperor Mateus* of Final Fantasy II and is the main reason why his people can't use magic as he use them to infuse him with immortality and Primal power or something crazy like that! Ahhhh, sorry nostalgia took over me...I know its a silly idea, apologies. lol xD
You did a good job trying to make sense of this. But this has to be the most convoluted mess of a story ive ever experienced. It makes no sense even when someone trys to make sense of it
Hi Brian!! Thank you for this video!! The info is super welcome as I am a new player that skipped a lot of story line and this helps me to understand!!! I also wanted to mention that with the story and the images not correlating (or at least that seems to my noob eyes) it became a bit confusing in the beginning. But that been said, the video is awesome! Thank you!!!!

im just confused about what happens at the end of the battle. bahamet gets summoned but i dont get how he was defeated. you said a phoenix was summonded but i didnt see any of that in the cinematic. that guy makes a shield and the scions channel aether and pray and stuff but i dont get what it does
That cinematic is apart of the bahamut raid in 2.0.
@@Work2Game ah thank you. i hadnt seen that one. great video
You're very welcome, and thanks for watching. :)
I really appreciate this, Thank you. Can't wait for the other content. 🥰
Two thumbs up Brian! Great job!
The more i learn about the story the more i realize how great it is
Ty. Going to look for more
Awesome lore video. Enjoyed every minute of it.
I absolutely love the content you guys are giving us daily, just quenching the hype thirst.
I like this so good for people who is starting out nice vids dude
After playing the game since 1.0, this was a great reminder of what happened. Thanks for the great summary, and i look forward to your next lore vids.
just as i was looking for a summary, great job guys!: )
Thank you i did not understand it at all so i watched the video 3 times and i think i can understand a bit more, thank you for making this video for a New FFXIV Noob :)
Glad I could help :)
This is exactly what I asked for. Thanks guys.
Very glad to hear it Mahi :)
Yeah, I'm lvl 40 and skipped all the cutscenes. Thought I might have lost some value there, then after listening to you, I realized I was right to do so. Don't care much for the story, I just want to hit some stuff, look cool while doing it and play with cool people.
u are a loser then u should go bacvk to wow
@@francoisturgeon1176 toxic, I bought a story skip too, stay mad
@@francoisturgeon1176 So this is a FF14 player
Great vid I am spreading links on the whole serious to various discord’s.
Thanks so much Kai!!! For reference - bit.ly/FFXIVStorySummary This is the series playlist :)
when Yoshi / SE makes the next real FF Mmo.., want its transition and connection (story, build up, characters etc.) to be like what the transition from FFXIV 1.0 to 2.0 was.. (just keep the servers up of FFXIV all the time, for those seeking the old content and story)
Thanks for doing this! Good stuff!
Utterly, awesome. Thank you man
2:06 is where he actually begins explaining.
I REALLY needed this, thanks a lot!
It doesn't really change the story but gives you different dialogue options/slight variation in cutscenes.
exactly what i was looking for, thank you!!! i enjoy the lore but there's so many dumb sideplots like helping this girl pick grapes while my friends souls are about to run out?!?! so i end up annoyed and skip sometimes lol

I thought the roar was Nidhogg singing the Dragonsong.
Huh.
I feel like you should work on your annunciation a little bit in future videos like this.
I feel like you should work on your level of rudeness...
Thank you! Much appriciated :)
8:05 Even Hildebrand had to do his time with two-bit roles back in the day.
Bought story skip cause I couldn't stand FFXIV's grind, and wanted to know what all my character did up to Shadowbringers. Thanks for the video.
Thanks man really appreciate this
THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS
Just what I needed. Much appreciated!
I understand you probably had to do multiple takes of this, and I apologize if criticism like this is irritating at all.
Not at all, I do take multiple takes, but I also have a hard time saying certain words too. It's annoying even to me. ;)
But you forgot the most important character of all. The Gentleman of light himself: Hildebrand Manderville!
Someone specifically requested a story summary of just his stories. :)
@@Work2Game I'd honestly watch that too. Maybe before his story inevitably takes place in ShB.
This video actually starts at 2:05. There's alot of preface.
Thanks for posting the link Fox. :)
Legends were spoken of an ancient podcast called Crystal Core and two men of legend: Brian and Danny (Denny?)
I thought this was a new song by "The Story So Far" when I got it in my recommended
Before I clicked on the video I knew it would be Brain cause he loves his lore like I do.
oh thank goodness. i couldnt find a single good story recap so far
The auto genereated subtitles at 10:37 xD "Mohammed is raining down destruction on all the land"
Couldn't make it past 5minutes with the trailer sound playing in the background. Other than that though the video was great.
I really liked the video, but I think you should turn off the background trailer/scenes sound, it makes everything more distracting
Can you please please do an updated one?
