  • This ammo has performed great for me in several different calibers. In this video I give the .30-06 a whirl in 2 of my rifles. One with a scope and one with iron sights.

If you had a nickel for every deer that Remington Core-Lokt in 30-06 had taken, you would not have to worry about posting any new videos.

For sure. A 100 yd comparison between different slugs in different shotgun lengths, barrel types and chokes would be a fun one to teach new shotgun shooters the differences.

I’ve shot countless whitetail, several muley, lots of pigs, 3-4 elk, and no telling how many coyotes with 30-06 core lockts over a 25 year period when younger. The ammo was always available and cheap. They have got the job done forever. I handload now but would not fear buy boxes if needed some

That's exactly what I wanted to see, thank you. I've been shooting a 30/06 since 5yo. I have never had a problem with a rifle kicking until I bought a Ruger 7mm mag, ultralight. That rifle kicked so bad, it shook 2 scopes to pieces.

Try a Savage model 110 chambered in 7mm Remington Mag with the wood stock, very pleasant to shoot and with 150 grain rounds the recoil was very manageable. I’m not exactly a big guy 5’ 7” and 145 pounds. I shot it only using my right hand to work the bolt and trigger my left hand was support for my right elbow

That 700 sure looked like it was thumping you pretty good. It sure is a pretty rifle. Since I turn 56 next Tuesday blued steel and wood stocks will always have a special place in my heart. I have never taken a deer with a firearm. I had to wait until I was older and switched to a crossbow to finally get my first. Ya iron sight shooting vids are rare these days, nice to see! My 1st big game rifle is a well used Belgian FN Mauser action in 30-06. When I saw it on the vendor's table I was immediately intrigued by the scope & mount. I don't know the year of manufacture, best guess is 1950's-60's. The mount is a Pachmayr swing away so I have the best of both worlds, since I can easily use either the scope or iron sights. I love to give it a go with the irons at the range from time to time, great practice. I've considered a newer scope for the rifle but since I've purchased a newer 30-06 & 270 I will keep the vintage Weaver KV on it. Don't want to spoil the classic vintage look & value of th old girl. ;-)

Anyone else remember the Leupold Detacho mounts from about 60 years ago ? The scope rings had a lever to release them from the base. The rear base mount had a peep sight built on it. My dad would take his scope off when the weather was wet and or the brush too thick. He killed quite a few deer and elk with his scope in his pocket using a peep.

I'm from the old school and shot deer with the original 30.06 Remington Core-Lokt 180gr Pointed Soft Points and it knocks em up and down like now. and yes my Remington 760 pump 30.06 kicks like a mule but it puts the deer down like they got hit with a 100lb sledge hammer! I've used Remington 180gr Core-Lokt's in 30.006 since 1978 and they are very accurate - my Remington 760 pump always put them into a 2.0 inch circle at 100yards using a bench rest and sandbags, occasional flyers, yes, absolutely, but they were rock steady in accuracy from my experience. My buddies and I were taught to hunt using 4" orange clay pigeons at 100 yards and I don't remember missing to many of these at 100yards but not sure cuz it was too long ago, but that was our gold standard back then to hit that 4" clay pigeon with every shot at 100 yards.

I used. this last fall in my. 270 Winchester xpr on a whitetail hunt. 120 yds and blew his heart up on the spot. He tipped forward on his nose, DRT.

You did very well with iron sights at 100 yards especially with a penny size mark on a paper plate that was just traced on

Nice shooting! That’s good for iron sights at 100 yards.

Been getting around late and missing the live video. I guess as long as I am getting to watch it is all good tho. That Remington ammo seems to be doing pretty good in all of the guns so far. Been putting up some very good patterns with them all so far. I have been using the core lokt in my model 99 .300 Savage for as long as I can remember. That was about the only boolot that you could find for the .300 Savage. Have shot some federal but the hunting round was basically the Remington core lokt in 150 grain. My gun was always liking the 150 better then the 180 grain.

    Hey Adam!
Thanks for the fun and highly informative video. I have nothing but love for you, Brother, so please receive my thoughts in that frame of mind. I, completely, understand your desire to have a beautiful classic Remington 700 BDL in .30-06 with iron sights. Yep, it IS gorgeous. However, the way it beats you up on your cheek renders it nigh unusable. It’s a shame to forfeit the pleasure of more regularly shooting such a masterpiece because of a nostalgic mindset. I get that, too, because I have to reason with myself about similar decisions more often than I care to admit - the ideal versus the practical.
For what it’s worth, I am so enamored with the beauty of the 700 BDL, that I was sorely tempted to purchase a BDL, at a distant WallyWorld, even though it was chambered in .243. It would have been the most expensive firearm that I own, but I just couldn’t justify buying a bolt rifle in a caliber other than .308 or -06, for personal reasons. I don’t have a ton of money and I have plenty (pre-pandemic) of .308 and -06 ammo for rifles I own, already.
Here’s a thought on behalf of your viewing audience: would you consider, temporarily, mounting one of your better scopes on the BDL and post a video to show us it’s accuracy capabilities on the same playing field as your scoped Ruger American -06?
Thank you, so much, for your videos. The weed killer by .223, was unique and fun! Also, your guitar playing for worshiping our Lord is a blessing.
Blessings on you and your family.
    Grace and Peace 😊

Had to get my WhoTeeWho fix. Guess while we wait in YT to approve your videos I’ll go backwards and watch the ones I haven’t seen. As always, for the algorithm. ;-)

Who T Who my old Daddy used to sign in his 30-06 Springfield on the same paper plate as you use. He would say if you could put it on there at a 100 yds. that was meat in the freezer!
