Love the respect Clark pays him as an old friend to his adopted family. This is the one scene I think they really got right in this movie.
What makes this work so well is that they revisited the original Kent farm for 1978 movie. The same set. Plus the melodic John Williams Smallville score playing in the background makes this one of the only worthwhile scenes in this movie. It’s a shame that they never really hit the mark with this film and the message that Chris wanted to tell the world about nuclear disarmament. But this scene is very relevant because it reconnects the audience to the boy Clark was before he made that fateful trip to the Arctic based upon a feeling from a strange glowing green crystal.
Another commenter said it wasn't the same farm used in the 1978 film (which is in Blackie, Alberta Canada) but a similar one in England because of the budget constraints in S-IV. Well it doesn't matter as long as it looks the same. I absolutely loved the Smallville/young Clark scenes in the 1978 film.

I agree. I also liked how the location, Baldock, looked foggy and quite depressing compared to the golden sunny feel of the original where we last saw the farm. It worked really well with how Clark was feeling with losing both his parents (Deleted scene took place at the Cemetary with both their graves) and also the uncertainty of what was going to happen to the farm. Very overlooked scene and it really did set the tone for this fourth film. A massive yet welcomed departure from III in my opinion. 😊

This scene makes me a bit nostalgic. I suppose because we're remembering a better movie, or a better time in Clark's life. Now both his parents are dead, Lois has moved on, and Smallville has probably changed by the looks of it.

It was an even better touch when Lacy Warfield buys the Kent farm from Clark (He gives her Mr Hornsby's contact card) in a deleted scene at the end of the film which brought this full circle.
@@mikeshirleyforever I remember that deleted scene. However, I was hoping that scene could have been included in the movie because the moment Superman rescued Lacy from Nuclear Man, it was unknown whatever happened to Lacy without showing whether Superman returned her back to the Daily Planet or if he took her home. It would have been great if it showed a scene of Superman putting her down on the ground and he says, "Ms. Warfield, wait here, Clark Kent said he will meet you here in this spot and he will be here very soon" which shows Clark coming to talk to her and the scene is included.

I agree with you because it's almost like he missed being around those years and memories when he was young as a teenager and went to Smallville High School and even when he used to live with his parents Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Beautiful scene. The best in this film and one of the best in Christopher's 4 films. I love how Clark is as strong a character and believable as Superman. Christopher was amazing. I loved this scene in the cinema. The humanity and emotion keep Christopher's films the best superhero films. I still say Superman I + II are definitive.
Superman sure didn't have the heart to sell it for the property to go commercial. He wanted it to be sold only to a real farmer after his foster parents, who farmed together, loved him and raised him as their own.
It's also amazing that the English farm in Superman IV looks as similar as it does to the Alberta, Canada farm in the original 1978 film - especially with IV's "Metropolis" location of Milton Keynes, England being so inconsistent with New York City in the first film.
2:35 so Clark has the ability to make thing disappear (and reappear) just by staring at it, I hope he doesn't take a good long look at Lois and just makes her disappear for good.

His mother talks like he just discovered the green crystal. In the first film he discovers the green crystal in the same place, which helps him build the fortress of solitude. He was talking to a hologram of his mother in the 2nd movie. If they had left two crystals for him, you would think Clark would have gone there in the second movie instead of the fortress to try to get his power back after learning about Zod.
Clark digging into his ship in the barn is almost the same scene as it is in the original film, but this was Christopher Reeve's first time doing it since young Clark was played by Jeff East in makeup with Reeve's voice dubbed over.
Every time I remember this sceen even been an Asian Srilankan, farming cultivation is the best job for a real gard man. Wonder where that beautiful world has gone in to. 😢
Uh why is this scene actually good? WTF? When I sat down to watch this I expected a so bad its good movie from beginning to end. This small scene feels like something you'd see at a graphic novel or something. It's genuinely great
Superman IV wasn’t a *good* movie. But it gets a pass because of Christopher Reeve’s performance. When you ratio the entire morbidity of the film to his performance, he honestly should have won or receive a nomination for an Oscar.
CHRISTOPHER REEVE NEVER WOULD'VE HAD HIS ACCIDENT IF HE HADN'T TURNED HIS BACK ON SUPERMAN. AND SUPERMAN 4 WAS MY FAVOURITE IN THE SERIES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO CRITICISE IT.
Uh, Cannon turned their back on Superman by giving this film less than half the budget of Superman 3. Reeve was co-writer of 4 and wanted it to succeed, but studio greed ensured its failure at the box office. After this film, no one would finance another attempt. Reeve HAD NO CHOICE but to give it up.
I liked it as a kid. But as an adult...4 has the worst dialogue, acting, logic and was very thrown together and it shows. Meryl Hemingway flying into outer space and back? No problem? The concept of the Atomic Man (an actual serial in the 1940s where Atomic Man was actually Luthor in disguise taking advantage of Atomic Age technology) was great, but everything else was a mess. Little Scenes like this were good
Was Annette O‘Toole asked to reprise her role as Lana Lang,Clark Kent‘s high school sweetheart that she portrayed in Superman 3? She played that role good and later on did good in the role of Martha Kent in the WB/CW series Smallville.
If Helen Slater had been asked to reprise the role of Supergirl in Superman IV:The Quest For Peace, maybe it would be a big box office hit. Did Glenn Ford, who worked with Christopher Reeve in the 1st Superman movid as the title character‘s foster father, see Christopher after his accident and offer to help him and his family in any way he can?
So Clark never sold the farm in Smallville after both his foster parents passed. He had decided to keep the farm in their memory until someone who is a real country person wanted it. Good decision for Clark Kent. The Smallville theme is beautiful. Bring a tear in your eye.
@PedroGonzalez-yf6pg Most likely he gave the farm to Lacy Warfield since there was a deleted scene at the end of the movie after she and her father David were laid off from the Daily Planet where Clark gave her a business card telling her that he knows a real estate agent and said when she calls the agent to tell him that she knows him where most likely it was Mr. Hornsby's business card and Lacy moved onto the farm where Clark lived.
What makes this scene so special to me as a fan is that the filmmakers used the same location for the Kent farm as the one in the 1978 film. Yes, Superman IV had it's flaws and isn't as great as Superman 1 & 2. But it did have it's great moments such as this scene.
Someone could make an amusing mashup, with Clark Kent hitting the baseball and then having it impact with the Russian space station at the beginning of the film
I was so sad at the time this film was released in the cinemas , it was made a mockery of at release and the reviews were so ridiculously poor that my dad wouldn't take me to the cinema to see it hahaha
They did a great job of recreating the Kent farm to look like the original one that was used in Superman the Movie. The house and barn here was built and filmed in the UK to look exactly like the one that was in Canada.
A Gentle Scene Indeed, Cannon Films Didnt' Always Put Out Top Notch Movies Superman-4 Certainly Is A Good Example Of It, But It Wouldnt' Be Fair To Say That Their Movies Didnt' Have Their Moments' Too, All And All Christopher Reeve Should Have Said No Thanks' Regarding Doing A Part-4, He Was Actually Offered A Part-5 In The Early 1990s' I Think He Said No Thanks' To It, He Learned His Lesson,
In Superman the Movie, Johnathan Kent said "When you first came to us, we thought that people would come and take you away because if they found out about the things you could do, well that worried us a lot". In this scene, Jonathan openly told Mr. Hornsby that Clark had a bad dream and kicked the crib. inconsistent writing?
@@luvpamelanewton They were worried people would take Clark away if they knew of his abilities....but then Jonathan told Mr. Hornsby that Clark kicked and broke the crib. So they weren't worried about keeping Clarks' powers a secret after all. Inconsistent character writing between SI and SIV.
What doesn't make any sense is, in superman 2, he used that green crystal to get his powers back, so how can he use that again if he already used it once? But it was really nice seeing him go back to smallville, where he used to live, nice scene.
+bubbalover71 Maybe that was two different crystals where the one on Superman 2 was a crystal that turns him back into Superman, and the one here heals him from any injuries and/or sickness where he got radiation sickness from Nuclear Man and healed himself with the one here.
The crystal he used in II was the one Jor-El gave him, the same that built his fortress. This one is what powered his spaceship, a different crystal for a different purpose.

2 different crystals, 2 different types of power.
Love this. Just make a movie based on this scene.
Some of us if not All, tend to hold back around specific individuals that just aren't ready to witness our gifts/ talents.
It's a long long way from where you were born, 3 light years 😊
Clark digging into his ship in the barn is almost the same scene as it is in the original film, but this was Christopher Reeve's first time doing it since young Clark was played by Jeff East in makeup with Reeve's voice dubbed over.
Every time I remember this sceen even been an Asian Srilankan, farming cultivation is the best job for a real gard man. Wonder where that beautiful world has gone in to. 😢
"Your seat's in there, four eyes."
Uh why is this scene actually good? WTF? When I sat down to watch this I expected a so bad its good movie from beginning to end. This small scene feels like something you'd see at a graphic novel or something. It's genuinely great
reeve rules
this scene is awsome
I still watch this film, I still love it. So sad there won’t be another Superman film with Henry Cavill anymore. He was the best one since CR
Superman IV wasn’t a *good* movie. But it gets a pass because of Christopher Reeve’s performance. When you ratio the entire morbidity of the film to his performance, he honestly should have won or receive a nomination for an Oscar.
Clark loves plaid patterns in just about every incarnation it seems.
sabishiihito yeah. It's apart of the "country Kansas all American boy" image. Deep down he is.
Hes small town
its required attire in kansas.
That is the true clark kent, the metropolis clark is a cover for superman
This is the best superman movie ever this the only superman i watch in the movie
STEJTHEGREATEST shut the hell up fuckin idiot
She wasn’t even aware there was a Superman IV when she was interviewed for a Superman documentary.
I really like Christopher reeve. Superman quest for peace and the glow crystal like in superman the movie.
The ball would burn up like a falling star and the bat would shatter. Nothing would make it to space. Nice scene though.
Word is that ball eventually ended up hitting Thanos killing him outright lol.
What makes this scene so special to me as a fan is that the filmmakers used the same location for the Kent farm as the one in the 1978 film. Yes, Superman IV had it's flaws and isn't as great as Superman 1 & 2. But it did have it's great moments such as this scene.
Now Bill Gates owns the Kent farm.
Someone could make an amusing mashup, with Clark Kent hitting the baseball and then having it impact with the Russian space station at the beginning of the film
its cool that superman was a farmer
To think I was getting ready to enter 8th grade when this movie came out in the Summer 1987
Great Scene
2:44 the only thing missing from that guy is a sign around his neck that says Jacklegging Hustler.
REST IN PEACE CHRIS......CANT NOONE EVER TAKE YOUR PLACE......
I was so sad at the time this film was released in the cinemas , it was made a mockery of at release and the reviews were so ridiculously poor that my dad wouldn't take me to the cinema to see it hahaha
Sad. :(
4:47 thats me
They did a great job of recreating the Kent farm to look like the original one that was used in Superman the Movie. The house and barn here was built and filmed in the UK to look exactly like the one that was in Canada.
A Gentle Scene Indeed, Cannon Films Didnt' Always Put Out Top Notch Movies Superman-4 Certainly Is A Good Example Of It, But It Wouldnt' Be Fair To Say That Their Movies Didnt' Have Their Moments' Too, All And All Christopher Reeve Should Have Said No Thanks' Regarding Doing A Part-4, He Was Actually Offered A Part-5 In The Early 1990s' I Think He Said No Thanks' To It, He Learned His Lesson,
Good little scenes like this show that Superman IV might have been great… but sadly it wasn't to be.
Good little
Those days 1985..1988..1989
In Superman the Movie, Johnathan Kent said "When you first came to us, we thought that people would come and take you away because if they found out about the things you could do, well that worried us a lot". In this scene, Jonathan openly told Mr. Hornsby that Clark had a bad dream and kicked the crib. inconsistent writing?
What is inconsistent?
@@luvpamelanewton They were worried people would take Clark away if they knew of his abilities....but then Jonathan told Mr. Hornsby that Clark kicked and broke the crib. So they weren't worried about keeping Clarks' powers a secret after all. Inconsistent character writing between SI and SIV.
I'm still waiting for the "everything wrong with" guy to do this movie so he can say 'Clark Kent is a dick to baseballs.'
Clark Kent Sends A Baseball To Outer Space ⚾🌎🇺🇸
Probably knocked the moon out of orbit when the baseball hit the moon.
Definitely a good film.
this is the real super man
What doesn't make any sense is, in superman 2, he used that green crystal to get his powers back, so how can he use that again if he already used it once? But it was really nice seeing him go back to smallville, where he used to live, nice scene.
About 1% of Superman IV makes sense, so...
+bubbalover71 Maybe that was two different crystals where the one on Superman 2 was a crystal that turns him back into Superman, and the one here heals him from any injuries and/or sickness where he got radiation sickness from Nuclear Man and healed himself with the one here.
Non canon. Regular superman 2 it was crystal, while the directors cut it was Jor Els soul.
maybe there was a spare...
The crystal he used in II was the one Jor-El gave him, the same that built his fortress.
This one is what powered his spaceship, a different crystal for a different purpose.
Notice theres a 1960s pickup truck on set here instead of the red 1930s truck.
Surely Martha Kent didn't drive.
