Nice job cap, I am your fan, I have been building my gauges too, but instead use my printer to print the decals, I put the images on photoshop over a 4x6 white background (photo size), and then I sent out to place where print photos, the results are amazing, very sharp and glossy images. Thanks Bob for this video.
Hey Captain Bob, you did a fantastic job. I have a question that I can't find an answer to anywhere. How do I reference the stepper motor? Is there a limit switch or a light barrier or do I not need a zero point at all?
This is an early design. You shouldn't theoretically need a zero if you dial in the steps right and don't unplug it during operation. Unfortunately I lost the CAD files and cannot easily modify this.
Knowing myself, probably not 😂 I recorded it twice (one time it didn't record, the other it wasn't a good explanation) and now I'm kinda just putting it off.
Hey nice work..Really helpful info...Can you make a video on how to build a transponder.Wiring the 7 segemnt is clear but im not sure how can i wire the 4 rotary encoders to change the individual digits on the transponder. Thanks
Hello Akeel! Here is the offset I foundr: "0354 2 Transponder setting, 4 digits in BCD format: 0x1200 means 1200 on the dials." I'd use this offset four times, one with the value of +/- 1, another with +/- 10, then the others 100, and 1000. Let me know if you need any further help.
@@CaptainBobSim wow Thanks alot for the quick response.Ive just started thinking of building my own Cessna 152 cockpit.Your videos help alot..Thanks alot for the offset info..Ill try it for sure. Also can i know whether can i use the KY-040 Encoder as the rotary knob?
No, MobiFlight will let you configure 10 servos and 10 stepper motors to an Arduino Mega (assuming you have the right power supply) so you would need 1-2 Arduino Megas for all of the instruments.
Whelp, that’s embarrassing 🤔 I never got around to filming the configuration 😬 Unfortunately I’ve gone through 5 computer complete resets so I do not have the file anymore. Email CaptainBobSim@gmail.com and I might be able to send a Mobiflight configuration file for it.
Hello factoryracecar! After using these a lot, I figured I didn't design them well. The gear doesn't mesh well, and the servos are easy to fall off. I wouldn't feel comfortable charging money for a half working product. I will design a new version along with my C172V3 project, though this may be years in the future. I might also look into a redesign of this.
Hey captain bob! It’s your best friend here (only cause your intro told me to be) I’m not the best at building things so would I be able to buy a 6 pack of these controls off you for as much as u want. I don’t mind if it takes a year to get here it just I love your work
Thank you! By 6 pack, do you mean the 6 main instruments, or 6 VOR indicators, or something else? It's possible the 6 pack will take a while, I still need to finish designing them :) Have a great day!

Good idea GarageSim, Thank you for the idea!
Hi captain bob, I am building a full panel using your videos, when with the second part be out and will you ever make a heading indicator

Nice job, Cap'n. I imagine in a few years you'll be building instruments that are indistinguishable from the real thing.
Thank you Dave! Indistinguishable is the end goal 😀
Hi Capt bob.we planning to migrate from monitor to analog as a sixpax panel.
How many servo and stepper motor should be have .tq
Depends on your design. Mine will go with
x4 28-byj-48 steppers
x20 x27 steppers
x5 Servos
Maybe buy extras!
@@CaptainBobSim thanks...cpt bob
is this tutorial is complete?! I don't see anything about connecting this VOR to MobiFlight?! How connect this indicator after build to mobiflight?
It is not :( I filmed it about 3 times, but gave up giving an edited version.
Woow nice job. Waiting for the next part.
Thank you! I'll try to get it out quick!
as always very good video, the pity is that the thingiverse link is broken
Thank you! The Thingiverse link should be fixed now :)
Wow! Super cheap parts and very helpful video!(:
Thank you Emma!
Captain Bob thanks for the tutorial is next part going to be out anytime soon?

Captain Bob - Flight Simulation alright thanks anyways for this great tutorial !

@@akeelifthar8552 You are welcome! You should be able to use the KY-040 to my knowledge.
@@CaptainBobSim Thank you once again
..I will give it a try
Do you need a seperate arduino for each instrument ?

You inspired me to make an actual GOOD flight sim thx
I’m so glad it did Graze, happy building, and happy landings!
Hey Captain! Nice project! Where can I get de code to use on arduino?

Captain Bob when you are ready to start making them please contact me. I need NAV 1 and NAV 2 CDI gauges that will work with X Plane. Thank you.

I’m just looking for this 6 main instruments, just an idea if I were to buy them off you how much they would cost?
@@deadwillytv6528 I'm still budgeting it, but it'll likely be about $25/instrument (not including shipping), depending on the instrument.
Captain Bob - Flight Simulation Made Simple ok 👍
Yay captain bob!!! first btw ;) and also thanks for the shoutout :D
Awesome! Thank you AviationMaster!
Holy cow it works it works thx
I'm so glad!! Did you configure it yet?
Very good video !!!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
