- Once a vibrant and important community in the Iberian Peninsula, Spain’s Jewish life was ended some 500 years ago with the Inquisition and Expulsion. Today, with an interest among Spanish population to know more about its Jewish heritage, cities and towns are restoring historic and cultural sites. And Jews have come back to Spain.
Thank you! We are retirees, exploring the possibility of relocating to Spain and are hoping to find a Jewish community to connect with~ we hope, perhaps they can offer advice on where there might be a vibrant Jewish community that might act as a support network!

I was raised catholic but trained as a Jewess. Mother never went to church, always said the life is in the blood do not eat it auntie said so much more. My father's aunt showed me in the very very old house on 4th st in Albuquerque, New Mexico all the Mezuzah's in the wall paper near all the door frames except the bathroom. They had a secret room with all the old saints Ester, Ruth, Moses. Did not mix milk with meat etc... My Grandmother and aunt revealed who we were later my Mother at the end of life.
DNA from family revealed It was true the sheep's horn I played with as a child was a shofar we were descened from these Jews and Cohenim. Father's father's side are Kalish/caliz traced them back to turkey ,Poland ,Iran. I received a return certificate but today am Jewish in my soul alone. Raised my children in the ways of my beautiful people.
From a Sephardic Jew, you should know, "Jewess" is an incredibly offensive term used by the Nazis. You're appropriating our culture.

@@Holybatman3603 No but my dad was Sephardic North African but the family left Spain as proud Jews in 1492. My mum was half English and Ashkenazi from her mother but her English father it turns out was part Sephardic.

I have Sephardic jewish ancestry/ mothers side.
However, I am a Traditional Catholic. 🌹
So what's the point in watching this???? I WAS Catholic, became even a follower of Christ & the born-again Christians, NOW I follow the the true & only God of the Torah, who revealed me my jewish roots. Jesus or Yeshua in Hebrew never meant to establish a new religion like Christians or Protestants, whatever. There's only one God & one faith in the Old & in the New Testament: Judaism.
Maybe explore your Jewish roots more. You don't know what you're missing. Tovia Singer is an exceptional person who may surprise you. Shame to not know anything😢
@@anitakammerer8526Wrong, Jews reject the new testament so why are you using it to prove your point? Firstly Christianity preaches that theres only one God, secondly the new testament preaches that Jesus is God which goes against judaism..

I haven't seen many jews in Spain before but I'm English living in Spain where there was a British Jewish friend living there, is it hard to keep kosher if you are religious.?
My Nonika spoke Ladino fluently. Our lineage ended up in Egypt. This was so enlightening

It's really sad to see that the house belonged to Jews who converted to Christianity. In the 21st century, there are still many people in Spain who hold strong anti-Semitic views. I've often told my friends that prejudice can be passed down through generations almost like they program into their DNA, and it's not just limited to one group; it can apply to people all over Europe.
The antisemitism is in plain view with the current disaster in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing of the Jews in Spain is OK for the Spaniards & they think it's ok in Israel, Gaza and West Bank where Jews have lived for millennia. The Muslims can go back to Mecca.
In Spain the expulsion of the Sephardim has always been lamented. Jews are not usually talked about, and even less so in a pejorative way. But there will always be those who speak ill of others. Even Ashkenazi Jews used to discriminate against Sephardim in Israel. It is the human condition.

@@galkkeiber8701 I'm sorry. The Sepharti culture is part of Spanish culture. Without wishing to be mistaken, I believe that the fact that the situation of Hispanics in general has been very weak for a long time may have influenced such a serious event.
My Native American grandmother has a small portion of dna in Africa, why? Because her bio father was Spanish and his ancestors flew to Africa, same as my Spanish grandfather small percentage of dna in Africa but neither was black.
my last name is "Chavera" i believe its hebrew meaning "friend"? .... my ancestors were from Portugal / Spain.. DNA are jewish ancestry as well

Ive been watching your shows. And thought you mite be interested in helping women in south africa. Im one of these women I and a couple of women are brought up in childrens home there for have no family and got married to bad man and left abused financially physically and emotionally. The courts are being paid to assist them and to let papers disappear. Every time try to get income they make sure you cant by stalking you to have no other options but to change location and media etc. I tried online but my country isn't supported and gofundme same story.

good news brother … it’s even better than you portray it here. All were Spanish people even by ethnicity, some stayed jewish(from old times), a lot became christian and later most became muslim. After the many civil wars most reverted back to christianity kicking out every other way of thinking. But they were all Spanish nonetheless. No arab invasions, arabic was just very popular back then just as english is nowadays.
I'm in disbelief when I listen to you people talk you know as well as I know that the Jews who lived in Spain and Portugal were black negroes but I didn't hear you mention them one time.
