Pretty sweet! I just recently got a T-Deck from lilygo because I wanted a handheld Linux device that could I interface with and the like. I got it Factory Firmware and without LoRa. Because I really don’t know much about the T-Deck in terms of meshtastic. Im just an DIY guy that likes to tinker with things. Another Idea I had was to turn the T-Deck into a PDA like device. The T-Deck certainly has a lot of features and different gizmos that are really interesting! It’s much like a “Cyber-Deck” in the sense that you can program it like any regular computer but handheld. I know there are many different “libraries” and “Firmwares” you can install that can give your T-Deck new features. Coolest “Off-grid blackberry device” indeed!
Medium Slow with the channel set up as Long Fast? you're hittng nobody with that. Medium Slow is a shorter range/faster mode than Long Fast as well, if you're trying to get a long range setup like you said, you're looking to switch to Long Slow. Most people will probably stick to Long Fast, and unfortunately the modes are not cross compatible, so even though it's shorter range than Long Slow you're more likely to hit other users on Long Fast. I have three nodes, a TDeck Plus (NOT running GUI firmware) and two Heltec V3s, and they will not talk to or even see each other if they're not both on the same channel mode. If you want to hit other people just to toy with it, you should try to turn on Wifi and enable MQTT, it lets you sync up to the internet on whatever channel you set up on, if you want to make an internet contact to get more experience with the interface. I'm not running the GUI on my TDeck+ because I had multiple issues with it when I tried it, and found that the regular firmware is usable enough for now as long as I memorize the hotkeys.
Thanks for the input! I know about the channel compatibility and roles of the nodes, and I can message btw my 2 nodes. I just dont hear any traffic at all on LongFast, and I notice there are usually a few nodes that are unset or unrecognized with a yellow lock. Nobody wants to talk I guess.
@markshomehobbies If they're unrecognized they might just need a few hits with requesting device info, I have noticed that takes some tinkering to get my fixed node to fully register on my other devices if I remove it.
I've had 2 nodes up for a few weeks now and very little if any non-MQTT traffic and 0 ACK on any channel broadcasts so far, but hope still reigns eternal I guess.
@@markshomehobbies Darn. Well, to attract more users gotta advertise it a bit and make sure that people have something to hit when they set up a node with the defaults, that's what I've been doing and while I haven't had any ACK on test messages I have had seven other non-MQTT nodes show up while driving in my area, just slightly out of range at my destinations.
Pretty sweet!

It caught my eye as an old tinkerer!. I was impressed by the 0 cost, off-grid comms factor as well as the bodge wire aspect of it also.
