Got the engine and cars last Christmas.....awesome set. Missed them in 2011 and finally got my scale set.
I love these passenger cars! I LOVE the Polar Express! Its just the BEST thing EVER!
I agree with you, during my 3rd grade year I would watch it every night and this went on to the beginning of 4th grade
_Flashback to the beginning of 2018..........._
Customers: WE WANT THE POLAR EXPRESS LOGO ON THE SIDE OF THE PASSENGER CAR!!
Lionel: *ALRIGHT!!!*
(Puts Polar Express logo on ALL of the passenger cars)
Lionel: *THERE!! YOU HAPPY NOW?!!*
Customers: Uh, we only wanted that on ONE passenger car.........
Lionel: *T O O B A D Y O U G E T I T O N A L L T H E P A S S E N G E R C A R S*
Alrighty then.
TreyFox LOL!!!!
Customers: I'm not saying that they put polar Express on all the cars but they put polar Express on all the cars
Do you have the Polar express station sound car would like to hear the sounds if you do
Like there isnt a problem with that cause I use ho scale
The Lionel legacy polar Express is just beautiful
I agree!
The details on these cars are amazing! I like the multi colors inside the cars. As well as the snowy roofs. Very Cool and Impressive Cars!!!
Great review Eric. Next holiday season, this train would be excellent for a Christmas running session. In Oregon, the Southern Pacific 4449 sometimes pulls a steam powered holiday train by the Willamette River
Always something good on this channel! Keep it up Eric!!!
Nice review Eric!!!!
Great video Eric. Nice looking Polar Express!
very nice that you showed the cars. They are really nice and look great on your layout.
Beautiful train Eric! Thanks bud!
A beautiful locomotive and passenger cars. I need to purchase those one of these days.
They outstanding excellent Passenger cars and baggage cars. Great review Eric's Trains.
Hey man Its been 2 years since I watched your channel, and now I figured out some life problems and after these 2 months I will be done taking my test for my AP classes, then in the summer I can finnaly rebuild be train table. glad to see, have a good day
Hope you hang in there with a new trainboard. My new trainboard is 27 by 17 ft . Lucky to have it, but I regret sacrificing with no over & under tracks, instead choosing my longer runs. See my video on my trainboard but try to include some over & under track
I didn’t know that the polar express engine had the whistle steam effect until 5:21
they dont only the scale polar express does not the set
Nice video. Love the camera angles you used in the running session.
Thanks. I try to mix up the shooting angles just a little bit in each video to give something new...even if it's just for one shot.
ericstrains I enjoy it. Keep up the great work!
Great video Eric and yes you got the poler Express cars
Very descriptive but concise review, very well made as always.
Not very concise, if you read the comments you find others who had small problems with these cars, like parts popping off. Just wish eric would mention small problems that eric solved with ca glue. Eric does reviews better than anyone. Eric is the best.
SWEET! If only they weren't so expensive LOL
ikr
Story of this hobby lmao
@@aj3751 exactly lol btw my main channel is reading area railfan
I’m glad you have your own version of the Polar Express. I wish I could see your layout if you host another open house. Even though I’m not much of an O Gauge model railroader. I’m more into HO and N scale. Lionel came out with the Polar Express in HO scale in 2016/17. Then it came back in HO scale again as a ready to run lions chief set with 3 passenger cars with realistic silhouettes. They pained some main characters on the windows. I think that’s cool. I wish the HO P.E. passenger cars had figures with a detailed interior rather than silhouettes.
I love it! It looks authentic! It looks accurate! Its also cool how you can now see through the windows!
Edit: I just noticed it’s Not completely done yet! The windows are actually cyan color instead of a yellowish orange color
I’m sorry, but I personally disagree. I find these coaches to be incredibly inaccurate to the movie.
First of all, the proportions are just all over the place. They are too long, the height is too low, and they are too narrow. The coaches in the movie are much shorter and have a generally more chubby look to them.
Second of all, the windows and doors are inaccurate. In the movie, the windows are evenly spaced and stretch all the way across the sides of the coach. They also slide open vertically, and are made up of two separate panes of glass. The doors are also integrated as part of the line of windows. And they’re much less noticeable than they are on these coaches.
Third of all, the colors are completely wrong. Nobody believes me when I say this, but in the movie, the coaches are actually not bright blue, and maroon. They are more of a dark gray with the slightest hint of azure (a color more commonly known as slate gray).
And also, the red that stretches across the windows, is a much warmer darker red and less of a pinky maroonish color. One more thing to note, is the fact that these coaches have 12 wheels, where as in the movie they have 8 wheels. It looks like they just reused the exact same mold they used for their heavyweight Pullman coaches. I know that that’s loosely what the polar express coaches were based on, but That doesn’t mean their identical. Anyway, that’s the end of my rant. By the way please don’t think I’m snobbish or critical, I have Asperger’s syndrome, and that causes me to hyper focus, and I already have a very meticulous sense of detail. It has always bugged me how inaccurate Lionel’s polar express products are. Anyway, have a nice day. LOL.
I am pleased to see that Lionel has started to use LED lighting.
They’ve been doing it for the past 2-3 years. But I agree that it makes a world’s difference in presentation. No more of that god awful flickering. Hopefully MTH will take note of it at some point.
Amazing.
Terrific! :)
Great video Eric, I have these cars with the Pere Marquette - I wanted it to look as similar to the 1225 excursion as possible. I think it’s nice to see Lionel is offering a “Hot Chocolate car” with sound for 2019. I pre-ordered that to complete my set - my only complaint was the wheel hub bears covers continue to pop off!
Cfox2000 yeah I’ve had a couple of them pop off. I think I used some CA glue to better secure them in place.
Hey Eric trains like the vids and reviews that you do it will be nice to see the Polar express Lionchife plus 2.0 plus the new cars thank you for your reviews
Eric, you need to do a snow scene next Christmas! That would be really cool to see, and watch. Not sure how you could do that cleanly and temporarily though.
Hey Eric this cars are awesome 😀👍👍
These cars are really awesome!
hello!
McMurdie Bricks hi
@@MPT_Productions good to see a good youtuber here :D
McMurdie Bricks thank you
@@MPT_Productions no problamma
This is good intro for kids to trains.
Nice
Thanks, enjoyed it. Must admit I don't have any Polar Express stuff and probably won't. But again did enjoy you video.
Wow!, they do Look Amazing. :O
Lionel should sponsor this guy, for his platform & review quality.
Nice!!😁
I'll want them so much 😍😍😍😍
SAME
Very pretty
Love the video! $200 per car seems to be a little expensive though
Nice train
You should do a review in the ready to run polar express set and lionchief bigboy
Very nice, Eric. I have the LionChief version of the Polar Express from 2013. I’m planning on getting two more cars to go with mine. I also have the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter movies. I’m hoping to get the LionChief version of that with Bluetooth.
Looks nice! You know, I’ve seen this chain of cars on the layout in the webcam livestreams. I was wondering what’s happening with them.
Now you know! :)
hey I recormend shooting at 60 frames a second rather than 30 or 24, ti helps with moving objects, or you can lower your shutter speed and raise iso for a less blurry moving object, my 2 cents
We would like to shoot video of trains similar to what master railroaded, Eric, makes. We have a new sony r7iii, its intimidating. What settings & iso and lenses do you recommend. So far, I've only done one video about my new trainboard but used my note 9 camera, because the a7riii is intimidating. Would appreciate any help you can give. Perhaps we should return to my old canon dslr's.
when it comes out can you do a review of the lionchief plus 2.0 big boy
Cool cars where you get this fella. Congratulations. I look for this car I loved.
Love the movie
nice
hey you did the Pennsy CC-2 Vision Line? I know you have it but i havent seen you review it.
You should do a double header run with the polar express 1225 and pere marquette 1225
Did you custom design the lights in the observation car?
when is the review for the southern 2716 coming out ?
I would really love to start modeling o scale. Where is a good place to buy o scale track? Love your videos!
These look like great passenger cars for the money
Hey Erik, I've been watching and enjoying your videos for sometime now. Can you tell me how the passenger cars get the power for their lights?
Great review, just a tip, believe it or not, it would be more prototypical to the movie run the cars without the diaphragms
What's up with the first door on the mail car?
Hi Eric...Another great video I have a few questions.
why do they put operating couplers on passenger cars? And are the lights in the baggage car on a separate switch so it can be turned off.
Same reason they put them on freight cars...so that you can uncouple them and take apart/put together a train. Yes, the lights on each can can be turned of if you desired.
Eric, another great video but shouldn’t you be going over a frozen lake ?
ALL ABOARD!!!!!!
I have the LionChief version of the polar express. But I have 3 passenger cars. I have the pupperlt car, the passenger car, and the Observation car. I am hoping to get the hobo car soon.
What I want to see is for Lionel to make a screen accurate Polar Express engine, or at least one with a screen accurate whistle. That, and maybe a StationSounds diner, with only two sounds that play when you press the certain Legacy remote buttons: 1) the Conductor say "Your attention please. Are there any Polar Express passengers in need of refreshments?" and 2) the Hot Chocolate song.
Lionel is making a Station sounds car for this set.
@@trainlover9943 hate to think what lionel will charge for a sound car. Lionel charges $200 per car, $800 for a set of 4. My mth union Pacific passenger cars, $459 for a set of 4. My Kline heavyweight passenger cars, $459 for a set of 4. Am I the only one who thinks $800 is excessive for a set of 4 cars? But, you say, they paint the interior, color the sinks white, add a few figures. My friend had an older mustang for 11 years for $1200,just doing regular maintenance. What gives with this pricing? I've had & still have model trains in my blood. And please dont tell me a lionel dealer will give me a deal. $40 dollars off, only $760.
@@file1man I think the retail on the ss diner is 329. The prices of the passenger cars are crazy. My California Zephyr cars from lionel was $459.
YES
Why did you remove the H10 video?
On eBay I found a deal for all the cars in total at $120 but the trick with the dealer is each day the price gets buffed up by $100 if nobody buys it on that day
reminds me of 2018
This video makes me want to work overtime, just so I can afford one of these..
Please put a link to get the passenger cars. Need to get for Christmas and can't find them anywhere.
I don't like the green window tint. Can it be changed?
If you mind. I'm planning on a career. I was wondering what your job is
Imagine a vision line Polar Express set
I could imagine that
I wonder what model railroaders do for a living?
Why can't I find these all I can find is the ones with the silhouettes
Where can I buy this? The website does not have engine/tender
I think it would be nice if we could get the Polar Express in HO but I'm gonna guess it has to do with licensing from Warner Brothers.
It wouldn't be too difficult to make though. Get an unlettered Bachmann Berkshire tender as well as a set of Athearn heavyweights, repaint the cars, add/make/order decals and put them behind a PM 1225 locomotive.
Lionel actually offers HO trains now including the Polar Express
Fantastic Eric really enjoyed that.I have the 8foot x4foot Blackman g scale track would the Polar Express work on a track that size
Cool
@@Ericstrains But I really do wish I could by some lionel scale polar express passenger cars as seen in the video there along with some other lionel O scale polar express passenger cars and make a lionel vision line 700e be the first new york central hudson to pull the polar express along with a three rail O scale model the great uncle of all of the chesapeake and ohio kanawhas #2716 in southern railway look, Milwaukee road S-3 northern 261 and others in addition to the scale polar express berkshire.
Fun Fact: The length of this train in the movie is 5 cars long.
ik. i have seen that movie to many times ;-;
Can you check the interior of the passenger cars
Have the models changed? I can only find passenger cars with silhouettes - not these with the real models inside.
How much is that set or the scale locomotive
Can I please have the Big Polar Express tender for my train layout?
Idk why they come with diaphragms because if I recall in the movie they weren’t there. Still a nice touch though!!
even if i had enough money to get thins, I still don't have a legacy remote :(
Theeis is the Polar ExprESS!
If I remember correctly there should be more in 5 cars the hot chocolate car The Disappearing hobo car the other car where it's like a utility where they put all the reject toys and that's from the movie, and a question I have are those diaphragms magnetic cuz I know senior video earlier part of it that the diaphragms are hook together but later into the video the diaphragms are hooked together at all
They’re offering more in the newest catalog.
@@railfanjackson4531 I did not know that
These cars are awsome except the Poler Express cars were smaller the Boogies had two sets of weels not three they were not that big but still these cars are awsome.
Hello Eric, could you please tell me the engine model? I want to buy exact one. Thanks
Agreed. The engine sounds amazing! Eric gives the best reviews. Guy's awesome. He also has such an over the top awesome layout. So detailed and well done. How great would it be to hang out at his house for a Saturday. 👍🏽
Get the other cars like the aquarium car and boxcars
Just a thought but I would love to see passenger cars like that going away so that I can see the drumhead disappearing down the track.
The polar express berkshire is complete thanks to the passenger cars.
doesn't come with a plug ?
Eric,
There were several problems with these cars, most notably journal end caps falling off or missing along with paint/detail problems. Were your cars opened/inspected before you received them or were they pulled out in pristine condition without inspection? I purchased a set of 5 plus a gold car. There were problems on 4 of the cars. I returned them to Lionel on January 10 for repair and received them back “repaired” today. It is quite ironic that you post a review today as well. I will be sending them back to Lionel as they were returned with parts of them missing (that were previously inside the package) as well as journal end caps coming off even after the Lionel technician performed the recommended dab of glue “fix” as outlined by Ryan Kunkle on the OGR Forum. At $200/car these should’ve been pristine out of the box. Thank you.
Wendell Gann a couple of the end caps fell off, but I was able to re-attach them without any trouble. No other issues.
Model trains are in my blood, but isn't $200 per car excessive and pricing regular guys out of o gauge?
They do make semi-scale O-27 versions for those who cannot afford the scale models. While $200 is a bit steep, remember that you can get discounts at your Lionel dealer of choice. And when you pay $150-200 for these, you gotta remember that you’re getting what you pay for. These are very detailed and high-quality pieces of rolling stock.
Do you have a link to the OGR post by Ryan Kunkle with his recommended fix? I can’t find it and have a few cars that I would like to fix. Thanks!

Here's my take on this repair procedure: If the cap on the center axle of the truck is off, you'll likely need a new truck. These are operational trucks with actual spring cushioning. The center cap is next to impossible to get correctly fitted into place without gluing it to where it remains operational. I sent mine back because of the amount of journal caps that were off. Needless to say many are still off after Lionel performed this solution. I'm also missing 2 diaphragms and a leaf spring. Not to mention 2 handles and a paint scratch on my passenger car they said couldn't be repaired. I wish my experience was as nice as Eric makes it sound in the review. I'm quite disappointed in this entire process.
Great video as always. You may want to look at the abandoned toy car. It was in the movie and it’s a really neat car. We have the 15th anniversary scale Berkshire and all the original scale cars and that passenger car is our favorite. If you get a chance, check out our channel. Happy Railroading.
I see the people in the cars where can you get this because the ones at Lionel are pictures and I don’t see the light lamp on them either. Give me a train sku number so I can get this polar express train set.
Wait... where's Clay Aiken?
Nobody ever gets the whistle right on Polar Express sets
All these reviews, and no one talks about lionel quality control...
Ado more prewar stuff
The funny thing is that it probably only costed Lionel abt $50-100 to make all of those cars & the engine.
you guys might have not seen this before en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_Central_Railway_Tunnel
Whats the product number
bit late but ok
