Painted my entire home in SW Alabaster (ceiling - flat, walls - eggshell, trim - satin) but found myself craving color. Opted to paint my downstairs laundry room SW Daphne, upstairs bathroom SW Daphne, and downstairs bathroom SW Frosted Fern. I am so much happier with these little pops of color which are basically behind closed doors most of the time. Makes me smile when I open the doors and see the unexpected!
We Color drenched our townhome in BM white dove with the exception of the fireplace / tv wall in BM onyx and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I absolutely love the look of having the trim work match the wall color in a different sheen, it’s extremely cohesive and less visually distracting. We opted for matte walls with satin trim. Especially if you are in a smaller space, like us with a family of 5 it can really open up the space and leave more room for diversity in your furniture / design pieces. White dove is also next level gorgeous, we even used it on our kitchen cabinets!

After a few months I felt I was living in a sanitarium 🤯 I was 26 at the time, a first time owner and listened to the wrong person 🤷 My 2nd go was Navajo White and left the white for trim and doors. By the time I sold it 13 yrs later I had repainted about 5 times🤦 My current home is aesthetic white with avocado bathroom and avocado accent in living room and I love it! My current obsession color is peignoir by Farrow and ball
For my new build I am picking one color for walls, accessible beige, and 1 color for trim and ceiling, shoji white, but I will venetian plaster the fireplace and limewash the powder room. So they will just primer those. As we live in the spaces I'm sure I'll make changes, but the open concept portion will stay mostly one color, at least that is the plan. I have lots of wood so it will not be a total monochromatic home.
I've lived in a lot of places, some owned, some rented, some urban, some rural....so many things affected color choices. The one rule I apply is that whatever individual paint is selected for a room has to be part of an overall "color story" palette. This follows with my furniture and textiles as well. The character of the entire home is consistent, though each room may express a different mood. I can also move tables, chairs and textiles among rooms and still have them feel as if they "belong".
I like the thought of grey walls white trim and green or mustard yellow ceiling om my coming projects. Have grey walls white trim and lavendel Lilac ceiling in the bedroom and i love it So grey and white is now whats connecting the rooms without everything being in the same color or shade.
In my case I have wallnut and gilded antique french furniture with lots of art on the walls. Whole house painted in a warm beige but then colour is brought in with colourful and/orr textured wallpaper.
I think you’ve answered the question that has been bothering me - I love colour -but I have a lot of colourful art that I love and have collected over time and in my new home (that I want to paint now, after being here 3 years) I want to figure out how to make it all work if I start if I start choosing non-neutral colours for my rooms. I’ve always had neutral spaces and have been curious about painting some of my new rooms more interesting colours but can’t quite bring myself to do that, partly because of the problem of my art and other coloured items. I’ve felt “guilty” about choosing a neutral to go all over (or mostly all over) because that feels “over”, even though I don’t usually care about trends. Thanks for pointing out that there are some good reasons for it and it doesn’t mean that your home is necessarily unexciting.
We're going with one color - Sherwin Williams Cheviot. We have a smallish condo and are going for the Parisian look. Have a couple of rooms done so far and it looks good. Have you done a video on this color yet? It only comes in the Emerald paint which has a brighter white base.

We are in the middle of a rebuild and I’ve conceded to SW alabaster in the family room and foyer at my husbands request…however was just texting with the decorator to do wallpaper on the ceiling 🫢

Well, I did it. All aesthetic white with bright white trim. Couldn’t make decisions, went simple.

I am in the same boat. Family of five in a 3/2 that’s 1800sf. I’m adding pops of color via doors and cabinetry.
Most of our house is painted in BM White Dove, my husband loves it so much he wants to paint the world in white dove. 😂

We painted our entire home repose gray with white trim and white ceilings. We have open concept with east and west light.
One main colour though home, I love it, cream with white trim
I can't imagine doing a whole house in one color. It's so alien to the way I decorate.
Sw Cappuccino throughout with white out of the can for trim and ceilings and I love it ❤️ makes the furniture pop!
