Really one of my favorite things about the B'omarr is that they're straight-up in the films. Legends could get weird when left to its own devices in parts of the setting where it wasn't being held back by the films and that's always fun, but when the films have already given you brains in jars in droids scurrying around the background of major scenes, weird is the only place you can go with that.
Having a body still means having access to senses that you can't turn off completely, no matter how 'enlightened' or 'detached' you get. The monks are still just 99% or so shut out from external stimuli with a body, & those esteemed ones wanted 100%. It's a case being the difference between being in a very quiet place measuring below 10 decibels, to a quiet room with decibels being in the negatives.
Welcome back, New guy! ^~^ I have to say, I feel like this episode suits your voice well! Was worried you had gone for good. @@haredeenee Honestly, I don't see why. The guy did a fantastic job, gave Geetsly a break when he needed it, and provided a fresh outlook on a topic. In the end, however. Your opinion is just your opinion and that is not my problem~

TYVM for this Geetsly's ! As I've mentioned elsewhere (i.e. Eckharts Ladder) on this topic; It's curious how the B'Omarr Monks, with their "brain -in-a-jar" scenario, bears more then passing semblance to the species H.P. Lovecraft wrote about circa 1929! These were the " Mi-Go" (aka Fungi from Yuggoth [Pluto] ) that used storage devices, effectively cylinders some called "jars', to perform brain transfers on select prey (typically humans). They could then establish control conditions on these victims and implanting their brains in a new host body, use them for covert ops or control high positioned folks such as politicians and the like. They could also implant their own brains by this means in select bodies. Pretty creepy stuff. Note: though given the moniker of "Fungi" they actually looked more like human sized flies or hornets but with masterful intelligence. I do like the 'spider' idea, though it's more limiting. Nice to see Star Wars utilizing a subject from the distant past and though it could be coincidence, I doubt it. :)
Basically the SW version of Dune's "Cymeks an Cognitors" anyone who's familiar with the Dune "Butlerian Jihad" Trilogy knows what I'm talking about. I would definitely do the brain in a jar thing. Especially if it is reversible. Think about it, no arthritis, no pain, and all the time in the world to contemplate the meaning of existence. Then, if you get bored, just transplant your brain into a younger body. Boom!
And then Book of Boba Fett helped do away with all of it instead of attempting to integrate this beautifully sadistic aspect of the vast and DIVERSE universe and history of the Legends (True) Star Wars Galaxy into the tiny SHELL that remains of the once fantastical and grand story The Star Wars.
How did the monks keep their numbers up? If they progressed to jars or I assume some die then others must replace them. But if they reject the physical then it seems unlikely that they would reproduce and if they separated themselves from everyone else then it would be very rare for someone to join them. The only outcome that really makes sense is that they would disappear within a generation or perhaps two.
You don't see hardcore ascetic Buddhist monks disappear from our world, do you? It's the same with them. Their numbers were large to begin with, & while they're isolated, they're not completely cut off from civilization. They still need to trade & get their supplies from somewhere since they ain't completely self-sufficient. Beings, whatever their origins, could still find & join them if they want to, & given the kind of worlds they settle in, recruitment ain't all that difficult, if they ain't getting hung up on numbers in the first place.
When I first heard about these guys, I thought they were absolute nutjobs. Then I thought about how some religious people in the real world can turn out and realized that it made sense for them to be nutjobs
You know what I find ridiculous. Not once, did the Jedi order go to the B’omarr order for advice. if they did more than likely all of them would have become for ghosts.
And no brain jar hasn't tried to escape and connect themselves to a huge killing machine? Say what you want about the Dune prequels, but the Titans were kind of cool.
Psychedelics have a way of aiding detachment, & seeing that they go to extremes like literally detaching the brain from the body, i wouldn't rule out the possibility of them using psychedelics in their practices.
To me, the first thing that comes to mind is how you can ride them around Jabba's Palace in Lego Star Wars

Funny how putting a brain in a jar was the last step for enlightenment, but turned imprisonment for their enemies
It seems so weirdly counterintuitive to go though all that brain removal when if you have true mastery that step would be redundant.
