    I mean, Genghis Khan was a very important figure in European history. This song has been covered a lot, even by a Japanese girl group which got really popular.

      yes, in Spain we had a singer called Ivan using the music - the lyric had nothing to do with Genghis Khan - in his debut "Sin amor"

      I remember that in one year it was actually voted the best of Eurovision - so, no, you are not the only one. The Group is still touring, you know. Some members have died since then, but they still are successful with their old songs. Especially in Russia.

    Your initial reaction to the 'hoo ha!' done killed me. lol I think most people reacted that way. Context: first Eurovision in Israel, first song of the contest was by a GERMAN band, going 'hoo ha!' lol It was a big hit in Israel and Europe.

  • @piktasvaikasvid

    lololol this was def a kitsch! but on the other hand such a good example of the music popular at that time. it was such a hit in europe when it came out! sometimes there are songs that do well in eurovision but outside of the contest nobody knows them and they are forgotten in a year or two. this is one of examples of the opposite: this song was very well known in europe at the time and in decades that followed. and known as a good dance tune, not as a joke song which it probably looks like these days.

    So much iconic that even the esc 2018 hosts remade the dance routine during the 2nd semi final (including Switzerland 1956, UK 1967, UK 1981, Sweden 2012 (Loreen), and interval act 1994 Riverdance).

  • @uztre6789

    The guy behind the song, Ralph Siegel, is a Eurovision legend. He had so many successful songs, especially in the 80s. He won with Nicole's Ein Bißchen Frieden in 1981 and wrote and produced the German songs in the next years. He also had successful German entries in 94 and 99. In the 2000s he also composed for other countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Malta or San Marino but couldn't achieve good results like he did in the 80s and 90s. He did get San Marino its only Grand Final participation in 2014 though.

    1979 was hosted by Israel (they won 1978 and 1979) - imagine Germany coming to Israel with this 'war-song', lol. But of course it was a disco-hit at the time. Late 70s was the big disco-era. All the singers on line, in different costumes, makes me think of Village People (singing YMCA around 1978)

      Sanny Juresic If I had seen this performance when I first got into Eurovision in 2010, I think my reaction would've been similar to Jake's. But after a few years, I learned that it's not all serious and can appreciate the ridiculous and unconventional acts. Example: I hated Austria 2012, but years later I regularly dance to it in my car. Maybe Jake will come around in the future.

    Love this reaction 😂. Some songs you shouldn't take too seriously, same thing with Lithuania 2006, they're weird but just try to enjoy them. Not every song has to be serious and overproduced, it's nice to just have a fun song once in a while, which is how this got 4th place. This reminds me that you should totally react to Latvia 2008 by the way. Keep up the good work 😀

    Well your reaction was quite EXAGGERATED
    We can see the fact that you did NOT recognize the song or the group! These guys were very taken into account in Europe and marked a before and after in Eurovision since at that time it was believed that they took the victory (even Israel believed Dschinghis Khan winners) "Yes, Hallelujah was good" but no! enough to win!
    Anyway, anyone who knows music knows how good this song is.

    Well, this song is an example of inner European thing. Genghis Khan is the most famous and well-known a Khan (ruler) of Mongol-Tatar tribes back in 12th century. He conquered a lot of territories from China till Rus (modern Russia and Urkaine) and even further. So, he's a well-known person, I guess... It's like to sing a song about BIg Bear or another leader of native americans tribe in the US or Canada, I think.
    This song was also very popular in the USSR (along to Boney M -Rasputin) for a long period of time cause it's connected with our history. So, they, guys, have made a good job. I like the song. :) Miss times when Germany sang in German. :)

    This is a eurovision classic! It's nutty and strange and campy but charming in retrospect for just those reasons and the tremendous kitsch-factor. The song title is referring to the great Mongol conqueror Ghengis Khan. Read more about him here: www.biography.com/people/genghis-khan-9308634 BTW the guy in the middle is made up and decked out to be Ghengis. They're singing about riding out on the steppes, fighting, his seducing women and so on.

    This song was the reason that me and my sister started to watch the Eurovision. We the album of this group and best song on it is Moscau, the was also a big poster in the album of the group that we had on the door. 1979 to 1991 were the classic and best years of the Eurovision, after that it got expanded its became demo music instead of live Orchestra. Meaning it got worse aftet 1991 so I didnt follow Eurovision as much as I did earlier, but I have been watching it more now that Sweden started to send great songs again, only 1 win less then Ireland now. Go Sweden. Hoping for a great song now 2019.

    Hey all, watching these last few instant reactions, it's easy to see that Jake really isn't a "novelty song" kinda guy... It must get frustrating to be sent requests for things like this and Dustin the Turkey when actually there are some amazing, beautiful songs out there just waiting for him to discover... Full respect for your musicality Jake - and hey, the good ones WILL come around (there are some gems in 2015 which I assume will be your next year). Anyways, a third attempt - any chance of Bosnia & Herzogovina 2006 :) Perhaps it might restore your faith somewhat... Peace

      Gav Taylor Well, this wasn't just a novelty entry. It is a very well composed pop-disco song, accompanied by a costume-based, somewhat theatrical performance. But this shouldn't take anything away from the music itself. :-)

    • @escapology9384
      @escapology9384 6 років тому

      Hey Horizonte - I totally hear what you say, and Ghengis Khan does have it's merits, reminds me a lot of Boney M who were hugely successful. My comments really were to reflect Jake's own musicality - from watching his videos you get a feel for the kind of music that impacts on him. He's just had a run of requests that were probably more on the gimmicky side of things. Best wishes to you

    • @horizonte-music9990
      @horizonte-music9990 6 років тому

      Gav Taylor Yes, I totally second that! He possesses a great sense of determination, when it comes to the quality of music. He constantly notices and values a lot of the creative substances, be it the musical arrangement or certain quirks in the vocal techniques. Things that go unnoticed by the majority of listeners. :-)
      By the way, I love that we can discuss in a polite and social manner. Unfortunately it tends to be an exception nowadays. :-(

    Please react to: Joy Fleming - Ein Lied kann eine Brucke sein (Eurovision Song Contest 1975).
    Soulful and dramatic song by a legendary German singer. She was so underrated in the competition. Amazing vocals and very energetic conducter of orchestra :D.
    Sadly Joy passed away in 2017.
