Why is our national language Malay? | How I Know?

- We finish up with something we hear everyday, our language. There are many reasons why Malay is our national language. It was part of the constitution when Singapore was a part of Malaysia and was kept in part because “it’s the easiest language for all communities to learn”. It may also be because the indigenous people in Singapore are Malays.
#howiknow
The younger generation of Singapore must remember that Orang Laut are the indigenous people of Singapore. Malays are natives of Singapore, our national language is Bahasa Melayu, national anthem is in Bahasa Melayu too. I’ve seen PRC making videos with statements like Singapore is a Chinese country and the Singaporean Chinese community have been correcting them. It’s important to acknowledge and respect the truth.
Our chinese in Malaysia suffer infr complx so bad that they cant face the truth lol
I am Malaysian born Chinese. Why is it Malay is Singapore national language? My answer is pretty simple. ⁰Because Singapore was part of Tanah melayu.
Indeed
Usually only Malay knows. The rest don't know. I had a China PR colleague who thought that Singaporean Malays are actually Malaysians.
@@nurimahrasidz271 Singaporean malay is Singaporean not Malaysian. Malay is a race not a nationality. The Mainlander knew nothing. Singapore and Malaysia is both multi racial country just like the USA, Great Britain and South Africa.

i’m a young chinese singaporean, i wish we got to learn malay in-depth in school. i also tried to learn it over the years, especially with an indonesian domestic helper, but i failed miserably. i find it a shame that it’s our national language but i can’t even understand it 😢
That's so cutee. Haha. It's like you learn British English from an American. It may work but there would be a lot of false friends, different pronunciation and accent. Still helpful tho.

Why so many of you are afraid to accept Bahasa Kebangsaan when our Singapore Dollar features a Malay President and the National Anthem too. Want to know how this word 'kiasu' evolves? This is what happened when the Chinese educated said by joining Malaysia, the Chinese would be the losers of the majority Malays. But, don't they realise making money in Singapore by selling Malaysia product & produce. Today, from 'kiasu' to 'kiasi'....eventually 'KIABO!' Wake up!

Not really unless you talk to Malays of course. Although Malay is the national language, the lingua franca is English here. Plus it is also not compulsory or that common to learn Malay for non-Malays as they learn their own mother tongue instead but English remains dominant in our speeches.
