    I have to admit: This is better than The Unspoken King.

    Totally agree bud, infact, I actually loved Martin Lacroix's vocals during his brief time with the band. He had a sweet mix of Worm-esque death growls combined with DiSalvo's hardcore bark. He was great.

    I love Worm and DiSalvo because they were both very unique death metal vocalists who added a lot of creativity to the band and to the genre. The Unspoken King was very generic metal/emocore with little death metal influence, so you can probably guess why people were as disappointed as they were. I still stick around because it was only one album, and I hope they (especially Flo who is usually so much better than that) learns from previous mistakes and actually makes an album worth listening to

    This song definitely has an old school 'topsy vibe to it I think, and with Jon back in the fold I'd say there will be plenty of None So Vile-ness to the new record :)

    Whether the album was "good" and/or passionately created is entirely subjective. I happen to think it was both.

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    My thoughts exactly. The album was quite hit and miss in places, but some of the ideas on there were great, and I felt the clean vocals actually worked well on certain songs. I loved the chorus on 'Leach', and the Faith No More-esque vocal melody on 'Bound Dead' is super catchy too.
    I applaud bands for trying new things, be them good or bad. I have no interest in acts that simply rehash album after album, paiting by the numbers. I can't wait to hear their new release :)

    Now this sounds like old good Cryptopsy times. A sweet Blasphemy made flesh-Once was not thing that has provoked in me nothing but great expectations about this new album.
    It is noticeable Levasseur came back into the band, pay attention to the riifs and you'll know what I'm talking about. He has hands for that.
    If only Lord Worm would return to Cryptopsy...

  • @Mirrorrim

    Who are you/we to say what's enough of an experimentation and what isn't? It's their band, not yours or mine. Cryptopsy have always been a band to try different things. Whether those ideas work or not is - like anything else - entirely subjective, but I respect their creativity as musicians and find their desire for variety and diversity quite refreshing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but good on them for having the balls to take risks and try a different approach.

    Fuck yes ! No core ! Reminds me a lot of the thick guitarsound they had on ' And They You'll Beg ' , even Matt's vocals remind me of Mike DiSalvo . This is gonna be good. I just know

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому +1

    Thankyou! I couldn't agree more. Too many bands play it safe and paint by the numbers, some even make an entire career out of it. That's fine up to a point, you kinda know what you're getting and so on, but Cryptopsy have never really been one of those bands.
    I do understand the negative reactions up to a point too, even I was a bit surprised to hear melodic singing and whatnot, but to childishly berate them for (once again) having the courage to try something different just seems pathetic.

    Welcome to the internet my friend, where opinions tend to differ from person to person ;)

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    I pretty much agree with you there. That being said, I don't think it's a bad album by any means. It's certainly different, and they probably did stray a little too far from the "definitive" Cryptopsy sound, but that was maybe their intention. That's the whole point of creative experimentation, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and if it doesn't work out so be it, life goes on.
    I can unsderstand why people dislike TUK, but the idiotic backlash they received was pretty damn pathetic.

    and yes, rememberme to BMF and And then you'll beg album... great convination
    and a recommendation for matt, maybe he can practic more the low growl (old school type, dying fetus or suffocation style) than the "titan vox" typically on deathcore, just saying
    I can't wait for this album

  • @sempcd

    The biggest issue is that they started mimicking the bands who were influenced by them in the first place, When bands do this the end result is always uninspired.If there ever was a band that could have make a good Deathcore album, it would have been Cryptopsy, but they failed at that, and I'm still skeptical about this new stuff.It may just be time for them to call it quits.

  • @strangejones
    @strangejones 12 років тому

    wonder how you feel about the new morbid angel then lol

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    See, I don't hear it like that at all. There were plenty of death metal staples on TUK, many of the tunes had super fast blastbeats, harsh vocals and technical guitar riffs, the record just had a bit more of a focus on the idea of "songs" and variety. Again, it's hit and miss, some of it worked, some of it didn't, but fair play to them.

  • @jamaaldirkson-murphy5397
    @jamaaldirkson-murphy5397 12 років тому

    Whisper Supremacy is more brutal than this

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    I thought the new Morbid Angel was awful, but again, fair play to them for doing their thing. A couple of the tracks on that record were okay, but for the most part I didn't enjoy it at all. Some of the songs were a complete departure from anything even close to their death metal sound ("Radikult" anyone?). Sure, Cryptopsy mixed things up a bit with TUK, but they didn't stray THAT far away, it is/was still an extreme metal record.

    WTF!

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    I never said Worm made the band. Infact I've never understood the Worm obsession at all. The guy was a great persona, sure, but he had a very limited range, so I can understand why they've had other vocalists over the years.
    As for it being uninspired or lacking in technicality, well that's entirely a matter of opinion. Infact, despite NSV probably being my fave album of theirs, I'd argue that record (in terms of guitar playing at least) isn't that technical a record either.

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    Again, this idea of superiority is entirely subjective. I'm sure many could (and do) argue that Worm's growls were monotonous and far from articulate. Worm for me sounded the most demonic, the most evil, and had some of the most creative lyrics of the lot. He fit their sound at the time (as did DiSalvo), but Matt is clearly a much more versatile vocalist than Worm. Hell, I'm sure even Wormy himself would admit that.

  • @PTR131

    Is it deathcore? Too scared to listen.

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    Why sigh, he makes a very valid point. I love Worm, but he's gone. None So Vile was a whopping SIXTEEN years ago for chrissakes. These crybabies either need to deal with it, or shut up and go elsewhere.
    TUK was a great record in its own right. It was different, of course, but they wanted to mix things up and they did just that. Good on them. It's not my favourite album of theirs, but it certainly isn't the abomonation of a record these shit-bone internet dweebs make it out to be.

  • @Mirrorrim
    @Mirrorrim 12 років тому

    Actually, he did make a point - which I reiterated - you've just chosen to ignore it. Twice. Fair enough, you don't like The Unspoken King, plenty of others don't either. Then again, I'm sure plenty of others enjoy it, me being one of them. Personal tastes and all that.
    As for their "best" vocalist or this perception of experimental failure, once again, that's all entirely subjective isn't it.

    I believe DiSalvo is better than lord worm, lord worm sounds like hes choking on regurgitated meaty mucus, which truly is a good thing! but disalvo just has the brutal fucking gurgles along with some fucking pissed off roars from the depths of every hell there fucking is, to me, disalvo is superior. to ME. no vocalist is superior to the other, and thats that

  • @DimebagHK
    @DimebagHK 12 років тому

    Hmm, not quite. When your vocals are just uninspired run of the mill growls then its quite easy to say lord worm is superior.

  • @DimebagHK
    @DimebagHK 12 років тому

    It is a piece of shit even by deathcore standards. He doesn't make a good point, he doesn't even make a point at all, he just announces his love for a terrible album. Lord worm will always be the best vocalist cryptopsy has ever seen, everything else is just typical death metal vocals for the most part, which certainly don't do justice to the fucking immense instrumentals cryptopsy is capable of making. Experimenting is fine. Experimenting and failing is not.

    I'm sorry to disappoint you my young level-headed friend, but I simply didn't like how it sounded. I have no elitist reasoning behind it. If it sounds good to me, I like it. If it sounds bad to me, I dislike it. I don't go "well that's a unique chord progression, even though it sounds like shit. I'll like it anyway!"

  • @Chaos2092
    @Chaos2092 12 років тому

    Damn right, The Unspoken King was awful even for a deathcore album, trying to say it was good because it was Cryptopsy is awful. The vocalists were really the things that ruined the post None So Vile albums for me, and Once Was Not was just a clusterfuck once Levassuer left the band.
    The Unspoken King threw deathcore into the mix and shit on the tattered remains of Cryptopsy's credibility and career to the longtime fans.
