- Happy Halloween 2023! So, I figured a great way to follow up my Dawn of the Dead 2004 remake episode would be to go right into Shaun of the Dead! So this yet another episode I shot while in the UK. It's a relatively short episode but a large portion of the film was inside the Winchester Pub and there wasn't a lot of locations in this film. So I hope you enjoy this one.

Fantastic filming, I live in the UK and have been to all of these locations. The Winchester was an actual working pub then it got converted into flats. I came here in 2006 and they were remodelling it so it wasn't a facade it's how it looked in the film. The only place I didn't go was the ally way. 10/10 Sean well done. If your ever in the UK next and wanna do hot fuzz let me know as I live just under an hr away from those locations
Here's a picture of the pub before it was converted to flats - 8cd9d368a93883b5b357-5599a0ba1e1da3aa61f50d4996d6a913.ssl.cf3.rackcdn.com/property_image.x/43494/43494_cb114f0d1fdcf54d9185fcf3383fec40.jpg
16:30 I believe the pub was converted in to flats immediately after the movie was shot sadly :( But it was a pub around the time of filming.
I must of watched this movie 50x so far in my life. How crazy is it that in the convenient shop the Pringle’s cans are still in the exact same spot as the movie haha!
AND THE DOOR IS OPEN 🚪… AGAIN!
It's awesome how some of the stores are still around nearly 20 years later.
Great video Sean ! And this movie is the best. It’s so symbolic to how oblivious society is to their surroundings, because so many people are miserable and get hung up in mundane day to day routines just to survive those day to day routines. ❤
Ugh LOVE THIS MOVIE! love the beginning of the walk through following Shaun/Sean. Fantastic shots ❤
Yes!
Fantastic video. Thank you Sean for making me very happy 😁 I love this film soooooo much.
It was a pub, It was called The Duke of Albany pub, It closed a few years after the film and was converted into flats. Just imagine how famous the pub would have been? With film fans visiting to drink in the Winchester
I absolutely love this man's content! If there is any person I'd want to meet on my bucket list? Tom Savini and Sean Clark. Big fan of these guys
Great video. 2008 that green comms box was next to the kerb so not a prop.
Happy Halloween dude !
Thanks for sharing & Happy Halloween! 🎃
Great job .
Excellent, although I was extremely bummed that the Winchester didn't exist anymore, would have been great to see you enjoying a pint in the pub. 🍺🍺
I still live near Weston Park/Inderwick/Nelson Roads. Clearly remember them filming it. Was only in the shop the other day! The thing is as it's Crouch End it's full of zombies anyway! Also the tube station never existed as we don't have a tube around here. The other thing is that Simon Pegg at one point lived on Ridge Road for a short while that was at the top of the steep hill.
The Winchester Pub clearly was a pub a one time that style of building plus the old sign holders outside
Love the intro. Nailed it
FANTASTIC! Thx.
Awesome, I love this trilogy! Nice cameo from “Nicholas Angel” at the end too 😉
Happy Halloween ! 🎃
Best Zomedy since Return Of The Living Dead
The research you put into this is amazing. Great video!
My stepsons favorite movie ....Got to walk Sean's path from his flat to the store a few years ago (2019). So cool 😄
Hey Sean, will you please go to the filming locations of THE CROW. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
It was almost entirely shot on sound stages. So the Crow would be a very short episode. Check out my Halloween Kills episode because I talk about it and show the studio in that episode.
I really dig your vibe, man.
Much appreciated.
Those shopping trolleys 😂. Great video as usual!!
A great way to start off my Halloween!
Happy Halloween Sean!
I absolutely love your film location videos, Sean! The way you switch back and forth from the film to the present location is perfect! Yours, Grimmlife, and Scott on Tape are all masterful in their production quality! Thank you! This was a blast!
Another great video sean love them.
I've just looked it up, the pub actually had the extension on prior to filming, not sure if it was original to the building but was a permanent thing. Looks like it was taken down in 2009 as that's as far as I can go back on Google maps.
This is cool
Dude you go to the coolest places!😃
Is it possible they left the door open at Shaun’s house on purpose because they saw you filming. At the beginning of the film the room mate complains about nick frost leaving the front door open. Maybe the owners are that cool :)
So was that the kid, dribbling the ball, did you find him and bring him back 19 yrs later?
hey! you should do sorta like a fan recommendation.. as in us fans tell you movies that you should do a filming locations on.. & you can maybe let us know if you can do them! please! I’m a HUGE fan on movies & also of you doing this filming locations! but yes there many movies i want you do to filming locations on..
You can make recommendations. However I'll only do movies I'm a fan of. So if it's something I'm not into I won't have any interest in doing it.
@@malfuncsean absolutely understood! i’m a horror guy just like you! we may like the same movies haha
This was such a good…parody?…funny?…horror movie that it blows my mind when people aren’t fans or haven’t at least seen it, especially around my age group!
Sure it's a cool video and all but I'm still pissed about not getting a NECA Dr Challis. ☠️☠️
Been along time since I've watched this movie
You make the most superb videos! Thank you, Sean👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ball gag haha
Dogs can't look up.
The Winchester was a real Victorian pub at one time. It was called, The Old Duke of Albany. The bottom facade to the pub that you see in the movie was demolished when it was converted into an apartment building. Only the external shots in the movie were filmed at the pub. The interior scenes were shot on a soundstage at Ealing Studios. I really enjoyed watching this Sean, keep up the good work.
I love this movie. Electronics stores have changed massively in 13 years, mainly because most people now buy so much online and rents are so expensive. Sadly, lots of pubs have closed and I think with it closing probably made filming rights a lot easier. Internally I think it was shot somewhere else. Look at Almost Ginger and filming locations for the movie.
Yeah the WEF and Blackrock has really ramped up their idea of a great reset to transform society. Is it just consumers? Naaaah
Hello Sean Clark And My Name Is Alex Gomez Okay Please
Radio Shack .... anyone 😂
I love Shaun of the Dead! Such a funny film! Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright struck gold. Great video as always.
hell yah .this is so cool 😎 best movie ever .Thank you so much Sean an Rich . kick A@ss .happy Halloween 🎃i so appreciate this . I'll have to pull this movie out of my zombie collection an watch .
Sean, you are epic! Keep the Hallowed grounds videos coming and Happy Halloween!!!
Great work. 👍 The winchester was definitely a pub and you can tell that by the big sign that now states the road name. Most pubs had big signage like that, and when they remodel, they tend to keep the signage up. Pubs are closing down at a rapid rate over here.
I used to drink in there regularly. It was a popular pub for supporters of Millwall FC, their ground is walking distance away.
@theprophet9429 I've always respected MIllwall for how strong their firm was back in the day 💯. I'm a villa fan myself 😃 I live about an hour away from central london so I should visit it more.
Surprising/sad that Simon Pegg and/or other members of the crew haven't purchased the Winchester building and made an actual pub or at least filled it with movie props & memorabilia
I remember seeing this on opening day. Still one of my favorites. Thanks again Sean.
MalfuncSean of the Dead
4:25 Pete: "The door is open....AGAIN!"
I'm Sorry Sean... but the Winchester pub was converted into apartments in 2007 which is why the exterior looks very different from when it was filmed in 2003. And it was a real pub too called The Duke of Albany. In the mid 00's British pubs began a sad decline all across the country and many once great landmarks were lost in the cull. RIP The Winchester.
❤
The twins live not so far from me.
Pop over to the Windchester Have a Pint And Wait for All this To Blow over! 🤔😆👍👌🖖✌🎃
Happy Halloween! 🎃🍁🎃
To confirm it was a pub.
Shaun of the Dead shot the Winchester scenes (the exteriors, at least) at the Duke of Albany pub on 39 Monson Road, New Cross Gate. Unfortunately, like all historic buildings, it closed down and became a block of flats a few years later.
Yes!🤘🏼
Shaun of the dead is one of my top 3 movies of all time, been quoting it for nearly 20 years now haha so this one was really a treat. Great vid as always Sean!
It wasnt a facade. That tall sign outside the building is one used for a pub wr still have them all over the country
Yeah, I believe it was an actual pub and from what I could find, it was sold in 2006. So when Sean was there in 09 or 10, it was already too late.
You told me this one was coming when I talked to you at Frightmare this weekend and you killed it like always. Any idea of where they actually filmed the backyard scene where they are throwing the records or is it still a mystery to everyone?
You are a true expert at these filming locations! I just love how you produce them so smothly and perfectly!
That's awesome 🤩
Didn't know we lived on *that* street...
I'm also glad my car looks clean! 😅
Vamp 1986 filming locations please. 🙏🙏🙏
That’s a possibility
What is going on between Sean, Piz & the Uneeda boys? I wasn’t able to see the vid before they took it down…
There's nothing going on. We did a live video and that's it. I was a guest on it. Not much more than that. You should have been watching live I guess.
I went to a party as Shaun this year
I'm near London but haven't been to any of these places. Thanks for taking us shaun. Loved the Hot Fuzz reference at the end lol.
excellent video, sean. i can't believe it's been 20 years. time flies by so fast. i'm glad some of the areas stayed the same over the years. i love it, when you react a scene from the film. it's hilarious. that's cool, you did a hot fuzz & shaun of the dead crossover at the end. 🙂👍
Happy Halloween!!
This would be is Shaun of the dead best movie references tribute ever!
Yes Shaun of the dead is one of my all time favorite movies!
Watch out for that sketchy guy in the tall pants!
Hi Sean, love the video, I think Shaun's house is 83 Nelson Road in Crouch End (London N8)
Pretty funny the front door to house was open when their flatmate was complaining that they left it open all the time! 😂
The Winchester was a pub. And that front was not a fasade. It just changed between filming and your first visit in 2009. It was called the The old Duke of Albany pub. That large tall sign on the corner which says "39 Mason Road" is the old pub sign. This is fairly typical of pubs in the UK. The pub closed circa 2008 and was turned into flats. Had you visited in 2007 you would have seen the pub in all its "Shaun of the dead" glory.
That sign outside the pub is an old pub sign 100%! definatly was a pub there.
Great video, a lot of the locations were in Crouch end in north London I am 90% sure that the alley way runs parallel to Cecil park in Crouch end, I think Simon Pegg used to live in crouch end. It was a firm favourite for filming, a lot of the T.V series " THE PROFESSIONALS " & lots of other films were filmed there . Crouch End is packed full of Actors & Musicians . CORRECTION
I was wrong about the alley way, thanks for the video, Shaun must have been embezzling from where he worked as properly prices in Crouch End are off the chart, that house he rented is way over a million dollars to buy . PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
Yes him and Nick Frost lived in north London at the time of the shooting. My friend who worked in tv also cemented this. It's in Simon's autobiography as well.
It was a real pub, it was called the Duke of Albany, I was a regular for a time.
When you visited, the front of the pub had been changed structurally for redevelopment- it was no longer a pub.
It's so weird to a Brit that an American would have such a fondness for this film. The appeal of this film to me is it's set in the UK and because everywhere in the UK looks like that feels like it's happening on my estate.
Also Sean experiencing UK trading hours was a joy. Sorry.
Nobodys make a filming location of the classic Alone In The Dark film from 1982, be the first making this 😁
It is an old pub .
They didn’t put a facade up .
It just got converted shortly before you filmed it originally
It’s was a real pub!! The Duke of Albany, My local many years ago before watching Millwall fc as the den is not far! 😮
When you are imitating the zombie or crazy person there looks like a zombie is sat down behind you 😮😂
FUN FACT - the location where Sean goes to the florist and sees the zombie is the same location as the intro to Peep Show (first 5 seasons). I'm really hoping someone has mashed those together.
My local shops! I still see zombies whenever I visit. This is in Crouch End, London.
Alot of pubs in the UK, when they close down are converted into flats or offices, but if you notice they keep things like the black sign outside on the right. Dont quote me, but that might be a legal requirement if the builing was listed
Off topic question but your the only guy I could think of that might be able to answer “ what headphones was Johnny deep wearing in nightmare on elm street
I was living at the other end of Nelson Road when they filmed Shaun of the Dead it was very strange seeing zombies wondering around the bottom of the street, and also I can confirm the houses in Nelson Rd do have gardens or yard as you called it.
The pub wasn’t a facade it was the actual front of the building and they was going to film inside but didn’t in the end and built that bit at Ealing studios.. the front and the inside bar was removed as it didn’t work for the planers to convert into flats so the planers actually rebuilt the downstairs part.. it was gonna be demolished but they kept it…
Really well researched love the video. It was a real pub, just like a lot of pubs now they’ve been converted into flats
Was not a facade it was a pub and it looked just like the one in the film the pub changed couple yrs over the film
That’s hilarious that the front door was open…AGAIN!
Awesome horrors Hallowed Grounds episode keep up the phenomenal work Sean
What’s really funny at 4:29 of this video The door is open how you did not reference The fact that Sean always left the door open big mess opportunity lol
Great episode, Sean!! Always dug this one. It’s a pretty fun flick. Also, it was great meeting you at Scarefest! I was hoping we’d run into you.
When are you going to make some horror films???
Hi Sean nice to see you back in the uk !! I love this film brilliant 1 of my favourites . Great work so interesting. You don't age still looking the same as when I met you at walker stalker London years ago !! ❤
You better stop all that goddamn peacockin👀
Front door open… don’t tell the landlord as Shaun or Ed will get the blame again.
"Shaun's mother's house or flat". That's a house man, no flat. 😁
Awesome Sean! (Btw, you've got red on you)
Shaun’s and Barbara’s places are definitely houses and not flats. They have more than one floor that’s part of the same home. A flat is an apartment on a single floor. Liz’s place counts as a flat.
Well you learn something every day. That little detail I didn't know. Thank you for the knowledge.
