My teacher makes it seem so easy when he demonstrates but when I do it I just shake my whole arm violently like I’m having a seizure. It’s harder than it looks.
it really is
Dogski28 same it’s so sad when I try To vibrato my arm just has a seizure
EXACTLY
true
Same here, lmao
How to practise:
1) Start off by sounding like an ambulance that is breaking down.
2) You know you have efficiently mastered vibrato when you sound like a police car on a mission.
Honestly 🎻😂
LOLLLL
Lol! Lol
Lol
As for me i don't sound like an ambulance but i sound like a police car crushing . 😄😄😂😂
My orchestra teacher kept saying "I'll teach you vibrato soon" *a month later* "I'll teach you it soon" *two months later* "soon" me: "no.. NOW"
;D
Lmao
THAT IS LITERALLY ME.
i have been playing violin. for 8-9 years. i cant do the darn vibrato im not even kidding.
Omg same lol 😂 my middle school orchestra teacher didn’t even teach us vibrato when my other classmate ask if he could teach us and he’s like soon and nope he didn’t teach us 😐 I was getting my hopes up and he had to ruin it but whatever know I’m teaching myself to do this and it’s hard but practice makes perfect 👌

This is more helpful than my violin teacher lesson. I always ask him how to do vibrato and he just say "just move your hand" like he doesn't want to give me detailed. The correct one or the true one huh
glad i could help!
Are you kidding I've taught you so many things.

I quit violin. I’ve been playing piano. Practicing vibrato hurt my old fingers. I took about a thousand falls as a street skater in the 90’s and keeping the fingers of my left hand curled for hours on end wasn’t working for me. I moved on to Boogie Woogie piano and I could do a one off rendition of BWV 565 now.
@@josephguida5432 Glad to hear you didn't quit playing music. Good luck with the piano!

Great video!
For those of you in a hurry - my (very awesome) violin teacher used to say that it’s best for instructors not to push vibrato before the student is ready because the result is often an ugly, unnatural-sounding vibrato. In the meantime, he showed me some slo-mo, “drunken sounding” exercises using each string and each finger by turn to help with muscle memory and staying relaxed. He said it’s more efficient to acquire a beautiful vibrato at one’s own pace than it is to struggle even longer at unlearning a bad one down the line.
^^this!
You're Lucky, I am a very stressed person and it's obvious in my playing. I have been playing for quite a while now, as a hobby, but I can play some more difficult pieces already but I can't do vibrato because I am tense, I try to let loose but am failing all the time and my teacher won't give me any tips saying it's not important but my slow pieces are always plain, the sound is clear but they're kinda boring if yk what I mean. So whenever I play slow pieces with friends I feel completely disappointed, what's the point in playing the right notes at the right time and having a clear sound if there is nothing more to it
damn why do I have my exams atm. I really need to learn vibratos-
I'LL COME BACK LATER, THANK YOU💜❤
❤
@@SHARMONY why did i just see this now *THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPLYING* I'M SCREECHING-
1. Start with first or second finger on G string
2. Make sure everything’s loose but with a slight pressure
3. The first way, imagine a train pushing your hand.
4. The second one a string is pulling back. It’s pulling towards you. Your finger will be crunched together
5. Go back and fourth between pulling and pushing.
6. Practice without the bow first! Then add the bow.
7. Use a metronome at 60 beats. One motion per beat
8. Start slow and be patient
9. Keep knuckles and joints very loose.
10. For extra help place scroll against the wall and practice your vibrato movements.
That is trash advice

having my wrist do one thing while my arm does another is like rubbing my stomach and tapping my head at the same time, which funnily enough I can do with no problem.
But when i try to have my wrist do one thing while my arm on the opposite side does another, is like a brain fart for my muscles
@@Bee-tj8gc DAWG SAME HUH ??? LITERALLY LIKE MY BRAIN CANT COMPREHEND MOVING THE BOW WITH ONE HAND AND CONCENTARATING ON MY OTHER HAND TO MOVE AND DO THE VIBRATO HELP THE MOMENT I DO THE VIBRATO MY BOW HAND STOPS

so happy to hear that!
Ben gacha 31 you should follow what your teacher says
@Ben gacha 31 I'm in 7th grade and trust me IT SUCKS
@Ben gacha 31 We just move our hands back and forth
Aw lucky I havent practiced vibrato and now I have to do vibrato for something that's due today
I've been playing the violin on and off for the past 5 years, but I just started to gain the desire of learning vibrato seriously. The fact that you mentioned keeping the fingers, arm, and shoulder loose really made the progress easier as I do get tense when I play. I will definitely apply all of these and hope I can get a decent vibrato in a few months!
It’s really easy to get so focused on other things that you forget to keep loose! Sometimes I’ll be in the middle of something then be like whoa, how long have I been clenching my jaw like this?!
I learned vibrato in my 3rd year..well, good luck with yours!
The push/pull motion is a very good explanation. I was struggling to understand what my teacher was showing me, but the way you explain it like that makes so much sense. Thanks for that!
you're very welcome!
Roly Racoon yea me too cuz I was always like how the crap do u even move that knuckle
My bow is vibrating more than the sound
My instructor tells us to make a rocking motion for vibrato, but she never gets into the specifics. I think this will help a lot :D

The best explanation I have found so far. My hand actually moved for the first time in 6 months of learning violin.

what happened
that's a very dark joke or....did it actually happen?...
Is it ok?.. are you ok?
This is way more useful than my school orchestra director teaches us 😂😂
In my orchestra class some people learned how to play vibrato which I've always wanted to learn so now I can learn it over the summer.
Update:
I quit but I'm finally deciding to try again. lol
Update: I forgot to update but I finally learned vibrato! At first I was confused because I there were a lot of different methods that people were teaching. But the key is to use one method and stick with it because all of them work no matter which one you use. Try to practice as much as possible and keep going even if you feel like giving up. Tysm for the video!

Just wanna thank you Sharlee for your vibrato tutorial video. I did try using your tips in doing the wrist vibrato and arm vibrato exercises. Then I used a metronome along with it. You are a very good teacher. Please make more videos like this. More power to your YT channel. ❤

This was incredibly helpful. I am a vocalist and pianist, but I play many other instruments on a basic/intermediate level. Violin was actually my first instrument. I have played it for about 15 years, but still haven't been able to get vibrato. I'm playing the viola a lot lately and I want it to sound nicer. I was struggling to get rid of the straight tone. I'm glad I was finally able to learn some vibrato today. I always thought it was in the fingers, but I get it now. It's definitely not just the fingers!
I am literally using a string to help out on moving my hand 😂💜💜
if it works then it works!

This has been the most helpful Vibrato lessons I seen yet!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Thank you. Of all the vibrato tutorials that i watched, i think yours is the clearest and most helpful to me who thought that vibrato is beyond my reach. With your explanation of the push and pull motion on the wrist, i got a better understanding of how vibrato is done. I need a lot and lots of practice to get a decent sound but at least my left hand knows how it should move to produce the sound. Now, i only need my right hand to cooperate and not freeze when my brain commands the left hand to shift directions.
As a cellist, my brain finds trying to do this on the viola nearly impossible😂😂😂
You shall watch twoset violin
Radha Thapa omg yes
I'm trying to do this on viola I CAN'T
It seems so much easier on a cello lol
@@taekookie4life950 armyyy (: and I play the viola too! Fighting!
I've actually been playing for 18 years but my teacher have never really put effort into teaching me vibrato, and over the years it's become really difficult in making some great sounding vibrato. :(
Do u think it's still possible to learn it after such a long time?
Yes! It takes a lot of effort to undo bad habits but of course it’s possible
Hi, 👋. Ty for demonstrating and teaching the way you did. Ty. Blessings to you.
I have been trying so many ways and talked to so many people- but you are by FAR the best instructor ever
This was so helpful, thanks!! My new violin teacher isn't really patient with students, and he rushes us so quickly, and gives us a brief lesson. It hard to keep up with him, especially since my old violin teacher was really good at explaining stuff, and made me into a great violinist. I started to become very frustrated with my new teacher and thought about quitting TWICE, but watching your tutorials made me believe in myself again, because you remind me of her so much! My 3 1/2 years won't go to waste :) Thank you so so much :D
i broke a bow trying Vibrato twice :( i have a tight grip when i do it and it took me months to get the basics i also learned to always have multiple bows in my case lol
How did you break a bow with vibrato?
Lmfao what?
@RetroFlare I'm heavy handed and when I did vibrator I pushed down to hard causing the hair in the bow to rip and pull out
Have you considered switching to dbl bass… or perhaps to percussion?
This was great - I've really struggled with this, but your instructions really helped me - Thanks!!
Muito obrigada pelo ensino!!!!!
Can you also put a video about shifting finger positions and it's related exercises? This was a nice experience, I hope I can get better at shifting too.
Ayush Pandey I suck at shifting after going to third I can’t get to first in the right position then my notes sound all gross and stuff
Like brett said "just wobble your hand"
HA
I am about to start learning vibrato. I can't wait to all my ups and downs:-)
Since I have been playing only for the second month, being 52 and with shortest fingers ever, you can imagine I have all them issues at the same time, like the pressures, positions of hands, holding the bow, etc. But I won't give up!
Thanks for the video!
This video really helped me. By far the best tutorial! TYSM!! You helped me with violin a lot.
Mine sounds exactly the same.. I need practice haha
First fingers are hardest for me.
The third and Second finger is easier for me. I'm okay with pinkie finger--
Great video. I’ve played guitar forever and I’m trying to teach myself. This was helpful! Thanks
Thank you so much for this tutorial; it’s been so helpful. I’m putting these things into practice NOW!
Do it!!!!
Thnx you very much really... I have a teacher but she just say it will come naturally but unfortunately I'm not a natural born talent 😭
So happy that this helps!
Gioacchino Lopez I’m sorry your teacher said that! that’s misleading! Vibrato does not come “naturally” to any of us. Even the ones who get it faster than others. It is a very difficult skill for most and I’m seeing more and more that it is a very neglected skill. It seems like most of us are left to figure it out on our own. I mean, are we left to let spiccato and ricochet “come naturally?” Vibrato is one of the difficult skills on the violin and needs thorough and correct instruction and guidance. There are actually 8 vibrato activating switches that leave all other vibrato advice in the dust and makes vibrato a tangible skill for everyone.
@@AmysMusic7 thnx a lot :(
@@josh.lo8572 I teach the 8 vibrato activating switches that should solve your vibrato whoas forever. I can teach them to you if you want
