I Ran Away With The Circus!! (and you can too!)

  • Every child (and many adults) have dreamed of running away with the circus, and I was able to live out a bit of that childhood dream when the Venardos Circus came to town! You see, the Venardos Circus is a little different than your average circus, in that they are huge promotors of people following their dreams. And as someone who is currently working on exactly that, it struck a chord with me as I sat in the audience during last years Oregon performance. So when I saw that they were coming back to town this year, I reached out to and pitched the idea of joining forces for a few days to show some of what goes into creating your very own field of dreams, and to hopefully motivate others to reach for the stars in their own way.
Kevin's story is a pretty interesting one, and one that has proven that if your heart is in it, nothing can stop you. The team he's assembled are some of the most amazing and talented people I have every met, and strike an amazing balance between hard work, and a sustainable family life. This little circus and their message is doing far more than entertaining families, its encouraging them as well, and if they are ever in your area I HIGHLY recommend you check them out, and can promise that you won't be disappointed!

For starters, yes I had to re upload this video do to a mistake I made in the original upload this morning. But more importantly, yes, this turned into a way longer video than I was expecting, but to cut out any more of the setup process would have been a huge disservice to the people who put in an amazing amount of work to make it happen, and the conversation with Kevin at the end came so natural and from the heart that leaving it as one solid clip was far more meaningful than trying to cut it down for time (and in reality I’m sure we could have talked for hours). So I hope you guys enjoy this video even half as much as I enjoyed filming it with this amazing group of people!

Casey, I am continually impressed by your depth of character. As a 55 year old man who's seen more than I've wanted, done more than many ever should... I can honestly say you are amazing. You're not perfect (I never said I was good at this 😂) but you are honest, hard working, observant, clever, industrious, resourceful, caring, reflective, thoughtful, generous, beneficent, and cool to the core. I appreciate you generating UA-cam content that shows all these good things and more. Your wonder in looking at the faces of your 4yo daughter and the 60yo couple at the circus, your taking time to stop at a flash flood waterfall in the high desert to just sit and live in the moment... I'm a fan. I know I'd enjoy being your neighbor or just going on a recovery with you! Thanks and keep on rolling.

I found myself watching this documentary video and feeling as if I was watching 60 minutes or Sunday Morning or something of that nature. You provided insight into Mr. Vernardos and his extended family that make up the Vernardos Circus. It is my hope that those folks, be it young or old, are inspired to follow their dreams after watching this. Wonderful job Casey. May you continue to be blessed in all that you do. You are one of those good ones that "say what you mean and mean what you say." . We need that now more than ever. John here, from that back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.

They lived on lake Wisconsin and when we would hear the whistle from the circus train we would hop in the boat and haul you know what to get to the railroad bridge so we could watch the train go by! This was back in the 60s when they still had the steam engine! Memories!!!

Watching the two guys driving that stake in reminds me of another life, watching ex south African miners working for Boswell Wilkies circus in southern Africa. They were huge Zulu men and everything was done to them singing. Three of them would get around a stake like that, each with a twelve pound sledge and 123,123,123 around in a triangle they'd drive those stakes like a three cylinder machine. A couple of minutes and they'd go to the next one. Fascinating to watch. The process is taught in the miner's school for rock breaking underground and they're so fit they can keep it up for hours.
Thanks for a change of operations. Looks like you enjoyed yourself.

I had the opportunity to crew on the Ice Capades set-up many years ago. It was very interesting to see the method of putting all of the sets and equipment together. The stuff arrived in a train of small trailers that each held a set or piece of equipment for the show. They were all assembled using wires that fit in hinge like pieces. we were told to bring a pair of pliers and a hammer, that was all the tools needed for assembly. I had to go to the show just to see how the sets looked and worked for the performance. They looked and worked great.

that was a Great Interview! As a truck driver, im always passing old properties with old circus rigs parked out back to rot. I thought they were a thing of the past. He seems so Genuine and friendly. Great Video!

Holy cow Casey!! What an amazing video! Thank you for sharing the circus with us. I did want to ask a question though. You and Kevin talked a little about you as a touring monster truck driver?!?! That’s not something I’ve ever heard your talk about before. Can you please tell us more about that? I would find that absolutely fascinating. Thanks again!

Watching the interview I think it's safe to say that Kevin Venardo is an incredibly humble person. You were gloating about him and bragging on his behalf and he just kind of almost bashfully interjected "well idk maybe not" type of mindset. A lot of respect towards him because of that.

Interview with Kevin Venardos starts at 19:40 is REALLY GREAT. He is a great inspiration, and Casey you are a great interviewer just letting Kevin talk, but also knowing the right questions being a person that is living their dream. I see they will be in Tacoma, WA and will plan on seeing the show.

I have a lot of catching up to do on earlier videos. I found this one and it is so inspiring. At 75 and after 50 years of providing the public and college students in recreation and sports facilities, I am deeply touched by this video. Thank you

Thia is one of the best videos I have seen. Casey is like a veteran news interviewer and relates easily with the crew and Kevin. Kevin has a good philosophy of providing good value for persons who buy a ticket to enjoy their show. So many businesses forget where their paycheck comes from. Satisfied customers and patrons will assure a paycheck.

One of the most amazing things I watched when I was a kid is the elephants setting up the circus tent! They drove most of the stakes with the hydraulic press on the back of the truck, but they had the elephants stomp a few of them in what seemed effortless and extremely controlled while the trainer was holding the stakes, and then they chained the main poles bases to 2 elephants in harnesses while 2 other elephants used their trunks to stabed the top into the main grommet and the one's in harnesses drag the main poles into the ground like 3 feet! It's one of the most impressive team work between man and animals that I have ever seen!
