I've never seen a swivel to swivel line just for shot. A bit much imo, but learning different styles doesn't hurt. Tight lines.

sometimes I skip the top one myself but then use a double uni in its place. usually I prefer main line to a bulk shot to the leader but when its slow and low or using high vis line that doesn't work as well.

Great video! On the shot line what brand of shot do you use? Do you recommend water gremlin round? Someone mentioned to me that they will spook the fish. Thoughts?

Round shot of any kind will do. I use water gremlin, bass pro or nova tackle split shot generally whatever is available but nova labels theirs by gram wich makes it easier. Soft shot is better and easier to take on and off. The darker less shiny split shot is less spooky to the fish and some people tarnish their shot for that reason.

@@ReelMichiganAnglers thanks! But using the shiny shot won’t lessen the hookups? Just wondering as I love water gremlins shot. Simple and amazing to put on the line.

@@5ive1ne9ine I don’t think it matters in most situations. Getting the bait near their face and making sure they see the bait before the rig is what matters.

Where do you get that little tackle case?

I believe I ordered mine off Amazon. I’ve seen the moon at one or two other fishing stores before too.

Interesting video, I’ve never seen this exact rig before so this is pretty cool. Do you think they’d go for skein this time of year? I’m so indecisive on what to fish. I’m fishing the zoo.

This time of year I typically like jigs and wax worms, but I have caught winter steelhead on skiing before I usually just use spun bags but if you have skiing and don’t want to save it for next year, it should definitely do the trick. If it does not do the trick, try smaller pieces.

@@ReelMichiganAnglers Awesome, thanks. I’ve had a few outings the past couple weeks fishing jigs but to no avail. I have plenty of salmon skein to last me for a while.

@@michigansteelnbass the other day spawn bags and beads were hot but jigs were not. You never know lol

I ran into issues with knot strength when using the palomar (my favorite knot too!) w/ fluro & switched to improved San Diego Jam and the issue disappeared. I’d be interested to hear your “nuance” you mentioned as to whether that’s what I was missing?

I used to have that problem with the polymor knot when using fluorocarbon line as well until I saw a video where a guy explained that if you don’t pull the tag end properly and or if you cinch it down too much before pulling out the slack from the tag it frays the line so basically, I try to keep the loop as loose as possible until I have pulled most of the tag through and then you have to pull the main line and the tag line together at the very end for it to cinch proper takes some fiddling with, but I haven’t had problems with it since I started being more conscientious of how I tied the knot.
